We have been taking our cars here for a long time. The price is always fair, they do not try to up sell you on things you don't need and they fix things right the first time. Just brought my car in there the other day and they pointed out that I needed new tires, but they weren't pushing us on getting them from Lefty's. They just wanted to let us know. Obv it is cheaper to get them done at Costco and they were fine with that. They fixed my air, tune up and oil change and the price was right. A rare mechanic you can really trust. read more

Lefty's is practically next door to my parent's house and we have been using them for years with great results. I recently had to go through the stress of my car failing its emissions test and the guys at Lefty's helped me through the long process of getting the catalytic converter replaced and repeated re-testing to see if the car was ready to take back for the emissions test. They were very flexible about letting me bring the car in whenever I could for a re-test. My car finally passed the emissions test today so I am very relieved! read more

With so many automotive repair shops in Chicago, I turned to Yelp for assistance. I decided to do a neighborhood search and found Lefty's highly rated. I decided to give them a go as they were also featured in the Chicago Magazine's Best Repair Shops in 2008. The did an excellent job repairing my car and even offered a loaner vehicle to me for 2 days free of charge. They are open, honest, and reasonably priced. The only setback I had was when the horn they replaced broke, but they took the vehicle in and fixed it free of charge. read more

Recently had my vehicle inspected and oil changed. Couldn't ask for better service. Glad that the inspection was included with the oil change because I found out a few other things that needed to be fixed on my vehicle. Plus they took me to my vehicle while it was on the lift and showed me what was wrong. I'll definitely be going back for my next oil change and may have other devices done. Great job! read more

Friendly, easy to talk to, I called a few times to ask random questions before I ever came in and they were always willing to help. I ended up doing a coolant flush, 4 tires mount/balance and an alignment. They also did a full inspection to see if there was anything else that needed to be done and they came back with no additional work needed. Proof that if your car doesn't need anything else done to it, they won't push you to do more. I will be going back for future work. read more

One that will not only pick you up and drop you off , but to continue your personal work without halt , they offer you a FREEEE ! Loaner vehicle ! Also, during your wait for the shorter repairs , they care enough about your life to give you a ride to fulfill essential appointments you may have had to skip from lack of usage of your vehicle. How about if 40 below in the dead of winter and you're in a hurry they will top off your tires with air because you yourself was too lazy to do so ? I've been, count them, a loyal 35+ years a very happy customer of Lefty's Automotive . Fast, superb service, constant updates on costs and time needed for repairs, good fair prices, key flap in front door to leave your car there overnight for first thing the morning attention, coffee, magazines, clean waiting room and lots of seating with air conditioning . Bill the owner and Jim the manager are the types you are happy to see when you visit the shop and their estimates and judgement calls have proven to be right on. The only way I can state my loyalty and happiness with this shop is that a very highly ranked auto shop is exactly one block and a half from my house, yet I go to Lefty's for all the above reasons and the other shop has No Loaners ! read more

Brought my car in for an overheating issue. They said that I had a leak and that they would fix it up, along with a few other issues I knew needed to be taken care of. 1200 dollars and two weeks later I have the same issue, so I bring it back. I let them know that I am taking it on a road trip in a week and I NEED it to be reliable. Half-way through my trip I start experiencing more problems. My car had me worried the entire time, and I was lucky to have made it home. I bring it back in and they claim that they cant find anything wrong with it, even when the problem is easily reproducible. I bring it to another shop, and they quickly diagnose it as a head gasket issue, with a hefty quote for the repair. Same story at another shop that I went to for a third opinion. This left me wondering if Leftys had really investigated the problem to begin with and if they were scamming me or just idiots. I had initially started bringing my car to Leftys due to proximity and positive reviews that I had seen. The work was sometimes expensive, but I figured the quality of service was good and sometimes thats worth the price tag. Now I feel slightly ripped off and still stuck with a car that has problems. Lefty's is a great place - a neighborhood shop that has tons of loyal customers. They have gotten to know my car and me. The thing about Lefty's is they will tell you how it is. You might not like the answer (or you might want it to be cheaper) but they will tell you how it is. The other thing that they will do is tell you what repairs can be safely postponed for a future time, which can be helpful if you can't afford to fix it all right now. Their labor rate is lower than a lot of other places and they usually get my work done in one day, so I have no complaints. I was surprised to see a couple of 1-star ratings on yelp, but it looks like people were just upset that they had to spend money on their car...I will keep going to Lefty's! read more

I can't believe we've lived in the neighborhood for 15 years and have waited this long to go to Lefty's!!! While we were fine with our previous mechanic, Lefty's went above and beyond to help us pass our emissions test on our 2003 Ford. Not only did they address the problem with our catalytic converter, they repeatedly tested our car until it passed, and then submitted the test to the state for us, saving us substantial time at the emissions testing facility. I have a ole' 1986 Oldsmobile Delta. 88 that I thought was on its last leg! They were respectful in everyway,shape and form. The car has always been Garage kept, but still we were never told it would cost an arm and a leg. We got a phone call before the work, we gave the go ahead, if we needed more done that was necessary we were called always. I am HAPPY TO SAY I GOT THE CAR BACK NICE AND PEPPY !!!!!!!!!!! We also has nice people who talked to us and was given a ride home and no one does that! We are happy with our NEW AUTO MECHANICS FOR OUR OLDER CARS !!!!!!! I was recommended to try Lefty's from a friend in the neighborhood. They did a good amount of work on my car they were quick and the price was perfectly reasonable. When there was a problem with my car the next day they took care of it with no hassle and no additional charges. I don't expect everything to go perfectly every time but a professional place will take the time to make it right if something does go wrong. Gave them $2000 for needed work, no biggie. However, I picked my car up with lights on the dash that were not present when I took my car in. They said to bring it in if battery light came back on. A few days later the car stalled and battery light and check engine light came on. Took it in. Turns out it needs much more work. I opted to sell the car and not do the work but they still charged me the $86 diagnostic fee. This to me is unreal. I just gave them $2000 for work and bring the car in for issues that weren't present before I took it in. Bad timing? Maybe, but to nickel and dime the diagnostic fee is ridiculous. I have spent close to $5000 in the past year there. Not going back. read more

It's extremely stressful finding a shop when you're in need of a repair. Even though I haven't been here in a year or two, I'll never hesitate to recommend them to anyone and everyone I know. From a simple oil change to my complex manufacturer issue, they have always been informative without being the least bit pretentious. I saw customer ratting 4-5 stars that why I came to Lefty, replace 4 new tires for my Scion tC 2006, I called to check the price first and confirm they will be winter tire and Firetone brand $500 + tax, came out to be some generic brand and summer tires, any one can tell they are summer tires due to the big thread, they kept telling me the tires are all season. I got to bring my car back for re-balancing, steering wheel was shaking like crazy @ 45mph, did not put back my rear right hub cap at the first time. Never came back with this store again + their service tools are too old. they are not specialized for tires. NOT RECOMENDED PLACE. read more
