Okay these guys are AMAZING! As a woman, I am often ripped off at auto shops because I know nothing about cars. This is the first auto shop I've ever been to that is straight up HONEST. No BS, no upsells, and no lies. Took my Acura to the dealership to have it checked out since I bought it 6 months ago. They told me it would cost $1200 to replace all my brake pads as they are in critical condition. I head to Ted's shop on a friend's reco and they tell me "Nah, you've got a good 50% life on these. But we did repair a puncture hole in your back tire and did a complete inspection on your car. All looks good!" These people are godsends! It's a bit of a drive for me but it's 100000% worth it. Let me begin by saying that I suspect I'm the poster child for the Dunning-Kruger effect when it comes to cars. Especially grading on that curve, George and the rest of the team at Ted's have been incredibly patient and fair as I thoughtfully stroke my chin and say "I see: and is it possible for me to replace [part] myself?" I don't think I've ever been sold a service I didn't need, and George always emphasizes that the inspection results are advisory. He'll tell you if something needs to be done before you take the car away from the shop, and I believe his assessments. We've taken at least three vehicles to them since we moved into the neighborhood, and their work is great. Fair, good communication, and real empathy for normal people who just need their car to work right and not have to spend a lot of money to do it. (Last thing: in a spectacularly inconvenient bit of timing, both of our cars needed brakes replaced at the same time. George saw that my assumption of the expense was giving me the vapors, and we figured out how we could space out the work that also wouldn't leave one of our cars careening into the Chicago River when we pressed the brake pedal. And! Unless I'm mis-remembering, it actually cost less, total, than he quoted.) read more

I took my Dodge Durango to Ted's for an oil change. That went off without a problem. I happened to mention to them that I was hearing a metal on metal clang in my front end when I hit a pothole. While doing the oil change George, the owner, was informed that two bolts were missing in my front end. I believe this was due to an oversight by a previous body shop that had performed repairs after I was rear ended. The bolts were replaced at no additional cost to me. George and his crew have consistently been the best auto clinic i have ever dealt with. This is why I bring my Durango and my wife's Honda to them whenever we need anything! read more

I'm always very iffy to venture out and stop into different mechanic shops that aren't family recommended, simply due to the fear of being taken for a fool just because I'm a women. However I decided to give this place a try because of the amount of good reviews it had and because of how close to home it was. I definitely don't regret it one bit. I've come to this establishment on two separate occasions for two different services and each time I felt welcomed and well informed about the maintenance of my car. We'd already had a bunch of exemplary experiences bringing our cars to George. We found him because he's close to our house and I'm so glad we did! It's clear he has extensive knowledge and has helped us navigate purchasing two used vehicles this past year. He helped steer us away from a few beaters we test drove during our car search and when we purchased my car too far outside of Chicago to have him inspect it, he noticed a bunch of urgent safety issues that the initial inspection down South missed. When a part his team replaced on my Honda went bad due to manufacturing error, he replaced it for me for free no questions asked. He is trustworthy and absolutely worth bringing your business to. George is patience and helpful answering all my questions during the first initial call. I showed up for my oil change appointment and their team is ready to go! They were fast and efficient, no time wasting! During my oil change, George and his team found more fixing items that I needed for my car. I told George that I am going on a long road trip and he put in some recommendations for my car: new front tires which much needed as my old tires are not the same size that caused my car to make noise, new windshield wiper and recommended to change new battery. All the prices estimate were reasonable. I went back for second appt to get all the recommendations fixed and I am so glad I did! After the appt, George personally texted me to check in, that was superb customer service and it deserved my loyalty from now on! Great prices and great customer service. This was the 3rd time I took a car to this mechanic, and I gotta say that I've never had a better experience anywhere else. They do a very thorough job, and they're honest as well. You don't have to worry that they're gonna rip u off. On my last visit I brought them a used car that I was thinking of buying for a thorough checkup, and they actually saved me from getting ripped off. They found a bunch of things that were wrong with the car including the original mikes being turned back. Then when it came time to pay for the checkup he shook my hand and said, "Don't worry about it. This one's on me." You believe that? I got a screw stuck in my tire and called Ted's because they're fairly close to my home and I didn't think I'd make it far before my "check tire pressure" light came on. After reading many horrible service experiences at Hyundai dealerships, I did not want to take my Genesis to the dealership for an oil change and possibly receive a bad experience as well. I began researching and stumbled upon Ted's. I put in a request to get an estimate and got a response back from George on the next weekday. He was very straight forward with the pricing and what oil they'll be changing it out with. I finally decided to book an appointment. Upon arriving, the shop looked super clean and very open. I arrived a bit early from my 10:30 appointment and George greeted me and got my car into the lift for service right away. I was lucky enough to see Chris, (the mechanic) perform the service as I was able to see through the opened door. George even showed me the oil filter that was beginning to rust and I was shocked. I never was able to see mechanics work because it's always done in the background and I would have to just wait for my car to be done and returned to me. The oil change was completed very quickly and George recommended me future car services for what my car will need. Overall, this was such an amazing experience and I will definitely be coming back for service, despite it being a 40 minute drive. read more

I've always taken my vehicles back to the original dealer for service, regardless of the cost. This was in part due to some rather bad experiences with smaller neighborhood shops. That is, until now. I needed brake work on both of my vehicles. I knew taking them to the dealer would cost more than I would have preferred. And lately I've been wanting to try and find a reputable local neighborhood shop. Using Yelp, I found a few. But only one truly stood out. So I gave it a chance. The owner was very pleasant, friendly, and knowledgeable. After a great experience with my wife's vehicle, I brought in mine. I already knew what was needed, and was expecting the worse for cost. But I was pleasantly surprised it was very reasonable, and my vehicle repaired the same day (sooner than expected). The work looks to be first rate and I've had no issues since. I believe I've now found that neighborhood place for repairs. And will continue to come back again and again. People generally do reviews when they find something wrong with where they went. This is just one of those places you have to put in that good review because of how good it is. It's a bit tricky finding it the first time (not really on Addison). It's right behind some stores at the corner of Addison and Forest Preserve Drive. But when you do find it, and meet the owner, I have no doubt you've have the same experience with service. read more

I have never had a vehicle serviced at Ted's, but my daughter has and she swears by you guys...I've been going elsewhere, but they are so busy, I don't think I am getting the service I need. My engine light has been on for a few years and they don't seem to be able to fix the problem. Now my ESC light is on and I think I need a new stabilizer rod...but instead of them checking it, they told me to take it to the dealer and find out what is wrong. When I needed a tow in Park Ridge. George got me one right away. Chris fixed my broken belt and pump within 2 hours and got me back on the road. It's a family run business and they care about their customers. I was driving to Gene and Jude's and heard a nail in my tire clinking as I drove. Thankfully it never went flat, and Chris there pulled out the nail and patched my tire good as new in 5 minutes. He didn't even charge me, said he would put it on 'my tab' haha. That guy is awesome! I guess since I now have a tab, I will be going there more often even though it is out of my way to get to, but I appreciate small family run businesses and I appreciate that their efforts, efficiency, ethics and enthusiasm.
