This is an update of one written in 2016, but we made plenty more visits since then. I received a beautiful catalog in the mail and of course this got the grandkids all excited. Mind you, it says it is the summer catalog 2020. After making up the choices at home and circling the wanted Lego choices, we finally had a chance to visit the Lego store. We also wanted to check if the store was prepared for the new Methods of distancing and wearing mask and so forth due to the Covid-19. The South Coast Plaza was ready and open and has its protocols laid out. But we notice that people walking about are not really paying attention to the posted signs. We made it to the Lego Store and for awhile we were the only patrons. Kelly was her name and we showed her what we wanted in the summer catalog. We struck out with both items! Not available in this store and you may want to order it online and it could be 6-8 weeks delivery....what? More people came in and we got alternate Lego sets to make it over the $85 so we can get a freebie. A quick handoff to Loren so Kelly can attend to other customers and Loren can do the checking out. Yeah we are VIP, but whats the rush? Must be cause they want sales and us making that review and make sure their names are on it. Hasnt changed. But the kids were happy and that is what counts. read more

Loren is very rude. She made me type in my own phone number and email address on her keyboard for my vip information. Never have I been asked to do so. She didn't even turn the monitor around for me to see what I typed. Also if I were to spend $35+ I would get a free keychain, she didn't tell me about that or tell me which key chain I'd be receiving for free. I assumed it was a regular one and she just rang me up for it. Obviously she doesn't know much about the in store promotions. I highly reccomend "re-training" for that individual. Hopefully you guys can address this rude employee. In a real professional world you get written up for that type of lazy behavior. read more

I came here yesterday to buy 2 sets of lego and while waiting I was directed to another counter to pay and then he charged me for 3 sets and I told him only had 2 of mine and deep down he has a bad attitude towards me. I just left from this location, and I'm pretty sure the cashier (I have her name, but to be fair as I don't have proof that she actually did what I'm about to describe, I will refrain from using it) stole $20 from me. My total was $17.25, so I paid with $50.25 - supposed to receive $33 back. As I'm walking out, I counted my change - $13. So I went back to the cashier, who got her manager, who counted their till. Nope, till was even. So the $20 was mysteriously gone. I thought back to our transaction. I had bought my kid mini-figures in blind bags and She had asked me if I wanted to open them. She reached for scissors (underneath the register) BEFORE handing me my change. I'm pretty sure this is when she either 1) stashed my $20 or 2) "dropped it". Because the drawers were even, and not over $20, they couldn't hand me a $20. I will give credit to the shift managers for giving me $20 in rewards points to use at my next purchase. However, I WILL be calling the store manager on Tuesday, to caution her about my experience and to ask if she has a security camera to review. Lesson learned...I guess. read more

My five-year old son earned a reward for being a decent human being for a few days, which means he did not torment his younger brother or talk back to mom and dad. My wife was going to take him to Target to get some Ninjago Legos. I told her I would take him. Then it hit me, "why go to Target with its meager Lego selection? Why not go to the source?" So, I told my son I had a special surprise for him. We loaded up in the car and headed to South Coast Plaza. My son was asking constantly where we were going and what was the surprise. Once we got inside, I had to find a directory. At the directory, a very helpful security guard asked me if he could help me find something. I tried to whisper "Lego Store" to him, but my son overheard me. There goes the surprise. Oh well, we found the store. This store is not nearly as big or well stocked as the Lego Store at Legoland, but that is to be expected. The store did have a good selection packed into a small area. It was pretty crowded. My son found something that was acceptable to him without being too much of a hit on dad's finances. We will come back to this store when we want a hard to find Lego set. However, the prices are the same as Target and I doubt the Lego Store has many sales. Therefore, for easy to find sets, you may as well go to Target. read more

About as average as a Lego Store can get. They had an average number of Pick-A-Brick drawers. They did a good job of stocking the PAB with a nice variety of both common and unique parts, but some of the same pieces were found in two different bins so there was redundancy rather than selection. The weakest part of the store was the models on display which were from sets in the current catalog. There wasn't a single non-set model on display. The lack of display models was likely due to the smaller floor space which limited the display areas and made things more cramped. The store is located on the first floor in the Sears wing of South Coast Plaza. read more

Came here to purchase 3 lego robotic for my work school site. Man, those lego robotic can get really pricy. The 3 total of the lego robotic cost around $1,100+.......YIKES!!!!! I do enjoy walking around this store because it brings back of my childhood of me growing up playing with legos!!!! read more

I was looking for Hanukkah and Christmas gifts for mty son and his friend and they were able to direct me to the MINECRAFT legos...which was a huge hit with my son! Wish I could remember the girls name at this location because she was by far the best help I have ever recieved. Though anytime I ever go to any LEGO location I seem to get the same service everywhere! As a LEGO enthusiast who also has kids who LOVE LEGO, I was a bit disappointed with this store. I've been to all that LEGO stores in California at least once and this store seems to be the smallest. Maybe it was because I went here on the 1-year anniversary event, but the store was messy. Different themed sets in the wrong areas and no greeting from associates at all. The only time an associate talked to me was when I was at the register. Store seemed low on stock. Shelves were bare. Looked more like a discount store. read more

Lego - Toy Stores Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

Walking into a Lego store is like walking into a scene from my childhood, back when I had an entire bedroom dedicated to all kinds of Lego sets, from Harry Potter to original creations. I don't play with Lego nearly as much as I used to, but while I now enjoy more the visuals of elaborate Lego creations, I admit every now and then I still sit with a giant box of building pieces and construct something out of the blue. It's just plain, old-fashioned fun to use your imagination with a box of Legos. This store is fairly small compared to others in South Coast Plaza, but it makes ample use of its space with each wall consumed with Lego sets and displays. The wall behind the register is filled with containers of various colors of Lego blocks, and you can purchase plastic containers to fill with random pieces. The only downside I can think of is that the Lego store is a bit pricey, but that's not specific to this store but rather company-wide. I would limit purchases to around the holiday seasons, or as a special treat (and yes, it's okay if it's for yourself). read more

I was shopping in the lego store and it was amazing, the line wasn't very long and all the staff was friendly. I was looking for a cool set to build and I asked the staff what was cooler to build and they were actually nice about it! Definitely brightened up my California vacation! They also let us take pictures with the giant Star Destroyer and Millenium Falcon. read more

I'm a little past the Lego years but when the new store opened at South Coast Plaza I wound up checking it out with a friend one night after dinner. On the downside it's pretty small and pricey (but that just might be my opinion). However it's fun, it's clean and the staff is super nice. I think the nicest thing I noticed while I was in there building little Lego people that looked like my friends (yeah, I know how that sounds) - was how much fun the actual children were having. They were all smiling and from what I observed that staff was pretty good with the children talking to them easily and answering there questions. My friends loved there Lego likenesses. Every kid in the store was smiling. My friend and I had fun doing something a little different and silly. It's just a nice little store for South Coast. read more

I love Legos & still play with them even i am 40+ because it disconnect me from daily work routine & brinks the kid out of me :) Also its a great time for me to play with the kids & have quality family time and after shopping at many locations i found that Target has the lowest prices but the Lego store always have the hard to find collections & if you have the Toys R Us rewards card you can get 20% coupons every now & then to spend on a nice set :) I like the service at the store in downtown Disney & the employees were fast & Knowledgable.I bougt 5 sets of Lego yesterday $$$$$. read more

Simply the greatest LEGO store of them all. They have the most incredible staff - they are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. They are always willing to go the extra mile to make the customer's shopping experience exceptional. They always tend to have things in stock, and even if something isn't on the shelves, the staff are always willing to check in the back. Buyer Beware!!!i This morning, I came in to return a box of lego. I was told that unless I exchanged that Lego set for another set that I would be charge for the calendar that we received as a "gift" with purchase. The sales girl told me that the she would charge me for the full price of the calendar because I was returning set. I told her that there were other purchases on the receipt. She said no, you only get the "gift" for buying more than 75 dollars so if you return this now, I am going to charge you 9.99 for the calendar plus tax. Funny how they never fully explained this to you when they happily "gifted you" with the calendar. I returned the lego set anyways because I wasnt going to be blalckmailed into buying one more thing. read more

I love Legos but not the every changing rules on how many kits you can buy and if you can have points on your VIP card . Yes I want it to be the first to set limits on kits one per guest but don't you want to know this before you get to the check out and fine out that employee in the same store don't have the same information about the limits . One per guest is very FAIR But this can change if its one per family or one per guest or if the VIP points can be on one card or if you can have any for the 2nd same kit(I couldn't have VIP points for the 2nd kit) PLEASE LEGO ONE SAME RULE IN EVERY STORE read more

how fun is this place! it's like lego wonderland! there are already made lego sets all along the walls behind glass cases that you can check out. and all the way at the end, there are all these lego parts from basic little squares, tires, to head lights that you can pick and choose how many you want, and they sell them to you by the container. there was a medium and large sized container. they also sell boxes of legos of course. all age groups, so they have intricate star wars ones for adults, and big blocky ice cream themed ones for toddlers. i was impressed with all the new ones for girls!! and they have a station where you can build your own lego dudes too. make three lego people for $9.99. the station for kids to just start playing with lego is the best part. read more

There's a big bubbly guy who absolutely loves legos and seems to just love working there. He was super cool to talk to. This experience is another reinforcement that if you talk to someone you normally wouldn't but you do and you talk about what they love, it will be a positive experience. No or very poor cell reception in this store. They were very busy today but the line moved very fast and the girl at the counter was efficient and friendly. They had a special today where you could get an extra little gift if you bought over $75. I had bought more than $150 and asked if I could have 2 since I have 2 kids. We were at the Lego store today for their Mini Build event. My son is only a few weeks shy of being 6 yrs old, so he was not able to to participate in the event. So of course, a melt down happened. The lady that was doing the check in was fast to react to solve the melt down. She told me to see the store's manager for a project that is more age appropriate. We went to see Stephanie and she helped my son calmed down with building his own mini figure. We ended up buying a MineCraft set as an early birthday present for him and the cashier was pretty awesome too. They really cater to kids of all ages. As a general rule, I'm not a LEGO fan. I find them indifferent as a company and very uninterested in the client. But, I have to say that the staff at the South Coast Plaza store keeps me coming back. They are helpful, friendly and informative. The collectables are challenging to acquire and the staff here is willing to share information about release dates, etc. I've tried the Mission Viejo store and they always say they 'don't know...'.
