Went in today to try some poke for the first time. I've never had raw fish before so I was hesitant to buy a plate, not knowing if I would even like it. They gave me a sample of each to try (I didn't even ask for it) and I have to say it was really good! I was originally going to get the sweet and spicy, but after trying them all I really liked the one with siracha (can't remember the name) but it was creamy and spicy. I got the shaved ice for dessert ( strawberry and blue vanilla) loved the condensed milk they add on top! I will definitely be back! My new favorite place! Poke bowls are good. As for the dry goodies.. I brought 2 bags of shrimp chips an they were sooo stale an terrible!.. I was upset because they were like $11 a bag. They are not well stocked on things either like on apparel or goodies. So I highly suggest you check the date on anything you buy there to eat, because the bag of shrimp chips we purchased had 3 price stickers over the expiration date so we could not tell the date. read more

I was born and raised in Hawaii, but sadly I left home to Alaska just before my 14th birthday. Now i'm 22, so it's sort of been awhile since i've had authentic Hawaiian food. One of my favorites was always poke, and let me tell you, you don't get any more authentic than this place right here! I've driven by this place numerous times, and i eat poke a few times a week. I figured i'd give it a try. The business hours on yelp were incorrect, so i ended up having to come back. I ordered a poke bowl, expecting toppings to come with it. Instead, all i got was a small scoop of rice, a generous amount of fish, and three pods of edamame. They offered a few toppings that were $1 each. I wasn't impressed at all to say the least. I considered giving it another shot until my stomach started hurting. I came here after I read the article about Da Poke Man and Aloha Stop and Shop in the Anchorage Press. I first fell in love with poke in Hawaii, where I loved ordering poke with ocean salad to take to the beach for picnics. My husband would occasionally buy some from New Sagaya here in Anchorage and it was good, but not as good as what we had in Hawaii. But I love the poke bowls at Aloha Stop and Shop! I tried the sweet and sour which I heard is the best seller there, but I prefer the spicy and original bowls. A little soy sauce on the rice and I'm set for a blissed out to-go lunch perfect for taking to the park with the kids. The portions are so generous that I can't usually finish the whole thing. Also, the owner I met is so nice! I'm not crazy about the edamame poke, but I do like the furikake seasoning on the rice. I haven't seen ocean salad in there yet, so I hope they start carrying it! read more

Surprisingly good poke, I didn't really know what to expect but it definitely gets a thumbs up. The place seems catered to people from Hawaii who want a little slice of home. Next time around I'll have to actually look around, there seems to be a lot of interesting stuff in there but it's not a bad thing to just go for the poke. That's what I went for. read more

We were really excited to try this place since we love poke and it's close by. Not much in the way of toppings and definitely don't get the same amount as you'd get at other places, but that's the least of my concerns. I only had about half my bowl before deciding to save the rest for later-trust me that won't happen. I began to have a upset stomach which was nothing really, it got progressively worse until I literally had to run to the bathroom and almost kick the cat out of the way so I didn't vomit all over the floor, or the cat. The rest of my night has been spent trying to get comfortable while lying in agony even after taking prescription anti-nausea meds and making dashes to the bathroom to heave up what I can only imagine is stomach acid at this point. Luckily, my fiancé managed to get off with a upset stomach. Hopefully anyone else who was there today didn't end up having the same kind of night I did. read more
