I rarely post reviews, but this is important. It is so rare to find a doctor who is a true advocate for his patients. Dr. Leibowitz went above and beyond what most doctors would do, to obtain approval for Tepezza treatment for my Thyroid Eye Disease (T.E.D.). Tepezza is still fairly new. It was only FDA approved in late January of 2020. The medical professionals I was seeing at the time told me I would never get approval from my insurance. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN TRY. In fact, an Endocrinologist told me, in August 2020, Tepezza was not even available in Nevada, and it could take at least a year or two before Horizon, the makers of Tepezza, and insurance companies to have any contract in place. He was politely convincing; I almost gave up. But I had questions, so I called Horizon. I found out; the endocrinologist was not truthful to me. Why? What could possibly be his motive? Okay, he wanted me to stop being a pest in pursuing Tepezza, as he believed it was not a possibility for me, or he did not want to admit to his lack of knowledge. Whatever the reason, I felt betrayed. A Physician's Assistant referred me to Dr. Leibowitz. She said, "If anyone knows Tepezza, it's Dr. Leibowitz." My contact at Horizon, Ms. King, also knew Dr. Leibowitz. She assured me; I would be in good hands. That assurance prompted me to research his credentials...one of the co-founders of an innovative surgical procedure for bulging eyes, due to T.E.D...self funded charities...you can google the rest; the list is long and quite impressive! From the first appointment with Dr. Leibowitz, I knew he was different. We talked about surgeries and we talked about Tepezza as the 2 treatment options. He is a straight shooter who did not hesitate to tell me the truth, the pros and the cons. He did not sugarcoat any of it. His direct, no-nonsense approach is a reflection of his confidence in his honest assessment, based on his extensive experience, to the best of his vast knowledge, with the patient's best interest at heart. REFRESHING! He did tell me no one with my insurance had yet to be approved for Tepezza. HE WOULD TRY ANYWAY. And yes, I was declined. Thankfully, Dr. Leibowitz did not quit at that point. He scheduled a "peer-to-peer" with the insurance agency. I understand, this, in itself, was not easy. He was tasked to first educate the "peer" at the insurance side (most often, they are interns, not doctors), in order to communicate the necessity for the prescribed treatment. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in January 2019, and developed T.E.D. thereafter. If untreated, I face the possibility of losing my vision. I was diagnosed with Ocular-melanoma. (cancer in the eye) I went to the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA medical Center at UCLA to see Dr. Tara McCannel, Ophthalmic Oncology, and one of the worlds leading experts on eye melanoma. (Google it) After a series of test, and imaging, it was confirmed. The melanoma was to large to do anything to remove the cancer, so the verdict was to have my eye removed to rid the cancer. During my consultation with Dr. McCannel, she highly recommended Dr. Steven Leibowitz in Las Vegas to perform the surgery, since I now live in Las Vegas. Before I called him to make an appointment, I did my due diligence on him. I found out that he is associated with the Jules Stein Institute, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Stanford University School of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and much more. Bottom line is, I felt confident on his education and experience. I made the appointment, and went to see him to schedule the surgery. During our consultation, he explained to me everything that was going to happen, and answered all my questions. I felt his confidence as he explained everything to me. Which put me more at ease. Remember, I am having my right eye removed. He was sympathetic of my plight, and assured me that I was in good hands. His staff was very professional and helped me through the whole process. The day of the surgery as the were prepping me, he came in and again explained to me what was going to happened and answered my final questions. I am writing this 8 days after my surgery, and let me tell you something, everything he said to me was exactly what he said was going to happen. My story started when I was injured at work. By the grace of God I was able to survive a random act of violence that left me with multiple facial fractures on the left side of my face. Since this is a workman's comp case they gave me a choice of more than one doctor and I decided to go with Dr. Steven Leibowitz. My initial visit was less than an hour and subsequent visits were always under 30 minutes. His reception area was full of patients so I appreciated the efficient and respectful way I was treated. I was also grateful for the fact that my surgery was scheduled in a timely manner. It was only six weeks after my surgery that people would come up to me and tell me how great I looked. In other words, my face had gotten back to appearing normal; as if the incident had never happened. I have had 7 surgeries since I came back from the Korean War in 1955. All surgeries were major brain tumor surgeries behind my right orbit. After a two years wait getting MRI's and tests I recommend to Dr. Leibowitz from my Opthomolgist. I was very impressed during my first visit with Dr. Leibowitz. His knowledge, his friendliness, and his honesty. I was surprised by that, after two years of going thru doctor to doctor he told me right away what needed to be done. The surgery was very necessary. Dr. Leibowitz and his staff worked very hard dealing with the VA to make this surgery happen. My wife and I were very nervous about the surgery because of my age. I had just turned 90 years old last year with serious health issues. Dr. Leibowitz made sure I had a 100% checkup before the surgery. I had to have a growth removed from the edge of my lower eyelid and Dr. Leibowitz did a great job. He's very fast and efficient despite having to deal with some involuntary movement on my part due to reflexes whenever something gets close to my eye. He was able to remove the growth and cauterize it super fast and without any unnecessary damage or complications. After reading some of the negative reviews about his bedside manner I honestly just think people get the wrong impression. I get the impression he seems to always be moving very fast for the sake of efficiency and I appreciate it because that means not needing to wait forever in the waiting room even when it's seemingly packed. He took the time to explain what he was going to do on my first visit, allowed room for questions, and then on the second visit was done in maybe less than 5 minutes while still having time to throw in some banter. I think the people who don't think he cares simply misread the guy because on the first visit he apologized for needing to face the computer like "Sorry, I hate facing away from my patients it's just that there are a bunch of fields I have to fill in on the computer first." If you are looking for an eye surgeon who is highly skilled and passionate about his work, Steven Leibowitz, M.D. is clearly your best choice. If, on the other hand, you want a physician who's been nominated for the "Marcus Welby, MD Warm and Fuzzy Doctor Award," you might want to keep looking. My boyfriend has Graves' disease and was losing his vision...especially in his left eye. Between September 2019 and May 2020, Dr. Leibowitz performed four decompression surgeries, two on each eye. Net outcome: a huge success...especially (again) in his left eye. So successful, we nearly notified the Vatican to report a possible miracle. Dr. Leibowitz is that good! While always professional and polite, Dr. Leibowitz is not so warm and fuzzy. But at the end of the day, wouldn't you want a talented surgeon over one with a rosy personality? Another plus for us is Dr. Leibowitz "under-promised and over-delivered." While always optimistic, he described the surgeries without giving inflated hopes for restoring vision. A couple of bonuses: office wait time isn't bad at all; an average of 10 minutes past appointment time would be a reasonable estimate. Dr Leibowitz performed a bilateral eyelid and brow lift surgery. My eye lids were laying on my eye lashes and one of my eyebrows was dropping. He did an excellent job and I am very pleased with the results. Both problems were corrected and I don't have any scars. Nobody can tell I had it done however they all say I look great but they don't know what I had done. I saw two doctors to discuss my concerns and a solution. The first doctor made a recommendation that only solved half my problem so I declined. I made the right choice in selecting Dr Leibowitz. He was very quick to evaluate my condition and recommend a solution. Then we moved on to test my eye-site and evaluate my need for this surgery. The next step was surgery. The surgery went well. I had some swelling and bruising but that's to be expected. It went away rather quickly as I healed. The final result is a 10; my eyes look very natural , my eye lids are visible and my eyebrows are slightly lifted and even. I highly recommend Dr Leibowitz as he is highly skilled and he will provide an honest and educated solution to problems. I will return to him for any of my future needs. read more

Dr. Leibowitz is fantastic. He is friendly, knowledgeable and extremely caring. He takes his time with you and explains your procedure in detail and what you can reasonably expect. He has a delightful bedside manner that will leave you feeling confident and comfortable in your decision. Now, his staff is a very different story. If it were not for my excellent experience with Dr. Leibowitz I would have backed out of the process because I was so turned off by the office staff. I had to initiate all communication for everything, from scheduling my surgery to my follow up to making sure they received my pre-op report from my PCP. They literally waited 4 days before my surgery to confirm I was actually having surgery and again, I had to initiate that call. Even then, I wasn't sure if or what was being covered by insurance because they don't call for approval until a few days before. The surgery coordinators, Karen and Rosa are better than the others, but honestly, lower your expectations when dealing with the office staff and you will be fine. My ptosis (droopy eyelids) had gotten so bad that it impaired my vision. I had to hold my eyelids open with my fingers to see very well. I wasn't leaving the house much because of COVID and was getting scared to drive. Finally, I decided, COVID or no COVID, I can't wait any longer. I found Dr. Leibowitz on the internet and am glad I did. On our first visit, it was obvious that he knew what he was doing and that his services were in demand. He explained that my condition was pretty severe and I would need "Bilateral ptosis repair by silastic sling." This sounded a little scary to me, but he reassured me it was a very common procedure for him and that I came to the right place. He has a bit of a backlog so my surgery date was set for about 7 weeks out at the Summerlin Surgical Center. The bottom line is the surgery went well. Afterward, I had two black eyes and was sore for about a week, but nothing that ibuprofen couldn't handle. I would strongly recommend Dr. Steven Leibowitz if you are in need of eyelid surgery. I had a lower blepharoplasty done with Dr. Leibowitz and so happy with the results. The procedure was done in his office. From my first visit for a consultation to my follow up appointment after surgery Dr. Leibowitz was very knowledgable and made me feel comfortable. He was professional, kind and funny. He answered all the questions I had and never made me feel like I was taking too much of his time. I even asked about other procedures and he said that they weren't necessary for the results I wanted. He never try to upsell me or do something I didn't need. My daughter was born with her bottom lashes touching her eyeball 24/7. Made her extremely sensitive to light, discharge from her eyes everyday, basically looked like she had pinkeye all the time. Dr.Leibowitz reassured my husband and I from our first visit that he would help her by performing surgery to turn her lash lines outward so her lashes would no longer rub against her eyes. His office is organized, helpful, and all very professional. Dr.Leibowitz is straight forward, and gets to the point. He helped us from the beginning by telling us what was wrong. Then immediately after we went through the process of scheduling her for surgery. He is busy, but it was worth the wait for the work he performed. I had my eye surgery on October 20th at Sunrise Hospital and I have to say I'm glad I went to Doctor Leibowitz. The work was excellent and for some reason it was almost totally pain free and had slight bruising. If I ever needed to have more work done I would have no problem going back to him. I found him to be very personable with a pretty wicked sense of humor. If you looked on his office wall and see his credentials, he is not a stupid person. Of course the experience always starts with the office staff. I cant say anything bad about them. You can't help but like them, they know what their doing with insurance companies and other vendors.Which makes it easier for me as I have no patience for dealing with insurance companies. Plus they put up with me as I can really be a jerk sometimes. Dr Leibowitz is professional, competent and compassionate. Here is my story, I need to go back several months. Many months ago I noticed a lump under my eye, I asked my neurologist about it, he said see a dermatologist. I asked my dermatologist about it, he gave me phone number for plastic surgeon( I didn't call). Still feeling something was not normal, I call an ophthalmologist. He prescribed steroid, told me to come back in a month. Second visit he recommended Dr Leibowitz. Office made appointment (2 months wait). I called and got in one month sooner. I met with Dr Leibowitz, he took one look, said I needed a biopsy. He and his staff moved with such urgency, I had surgery within two weeks! I highly recommend Dr Leibowitz. I had a growth on my lower eyelid, turned out to be cancer, and had to have it removed. They needed to take a lot of my eyelid off. I was sent to Dr Leibowitz, and his office staff coordinated the three surgeries. They were very caring working with my schedule the Dr. that removed the cancer and Dr. Leibowitz's schedule. Before he did my surgery he had explained the process to me. The day of the surgery he saw me and my husband first and explained everything again and asked if we had any questions we did and he answered them. Surgery went well, I never had any pain in the healing. He had to sew my eye shut for about 8 weeks, with the last surgery he opened my eye and finished the reconstruction. I was referred to Dr. Steven Leibowitz by my Endocrinologist to perform Orbital Decompression - he's one of very few surgeons in NV trained to perform the procedure. Dr. Leibowitz performed eyelid surgery to aid in a visual issue. I was concerned with the outcome prior to the surgery because of my age. I didn't want to look like an open-eyed youngster nor did I want to find out that I had one eyelid uneven with the other. Dr. Leibowitz quickly acknowledged my concerns and assured me his experience would stand for the outcome. The outcome couldn't have been better. While this wasn't for cosmetic purposes the procedure makes me look less tired and more alert. I couldn't be more pleased. Being a patient in his offices is very pleasant and welcoming. I have had 3 surgeries on my left eye and 1 on my right by Dr. Leibowitz. I had to have these surgeries because I had exophthalmos which appeared several years after i was diagnosed with Graves disease. Even though I had my thyroid issue corrected the bulging of the eyes continued. Dr. Leibowitz is professional, very nice, an excellent surgeon, and a great teacher. He explains what he will do, what needs to be done, and is realistic about the outcome, which has been amazing in every one of my surgeries. He has done excellent work on my eyelids. You cannot even tell I had a problem to begin with.
