I am just over the moon about my ring and, since we can't yet come in to Leigh Jay Nacht to choose our bands (but will soon!) I thought I would visit them here and leave a rave. I had researched antique rings on line for several weeks. My boyfriend was worried he wouldn't choose properly and, so, we made a lunch date on 8/29 to go take a look. I started at LJN intending to work my way through a few places. Needless to say, it was my first and only stop. I walked in around noon and by 12:45 my future engagement ring was in a bag in my boyfriend's hand. I knew I was in the right place as soon as I started talking to the woman who helped me (whose name I completely forgot because, apparently, wedding planning has used up all of my bandwidth). The rings are organized by price point (which is brilliant). She let me lead (which is my preference) but made expert suggestions and was patient as I tried rings on. I was committed to a vintage ring and, as I pulled them on and off my finger, one stood out. 30 minutes in, and I knew which one I wanted on my hand forever. The whole time, [amazing saleswoman] was gentle, encouraging, and patient. The owner introduced himself to us, as well, and was warm and gracious. I found the perfect ring on their website but I was extremely nervous purchasing a ring online. I shopped around locally and actually purchased a ring from a local jeweler. But after having it for a weekend I just knew the design I had seen on their website was the ring my fiancee would want. After looking into their reviews and background info on BBB, I decided to return the first ring and purchase a ring from Leigh Jay Nacht. They were great to work with, even thought NYC was completely shut down due to a snow storm the day I ordered the ring, they replied to me via email very quickly and assured me that the ring would be shipped out via FedEx the next day. Once I received the ring, I took it to a certified independent appraiser. I was anxious that it would not appraise for what I paid, but to my relief it appraised for even more money that I purchased the ring for. I was very please with the appraiser and learned quite a bit about diamonds from him during the appraisal. My advice is to make sure that your diamond is GIA CERTIFIED this takes almost all of the guess work out of the value of the diamond. I would also recommend going to www.pricescope.com to see what similar diamonds are selling for. This will help you make sure you are getting the most for your money. After reading mixed reviews, I took my chances and put my trust in the positive ones, but unfortunately, I also must now give a negative review. It is May 4 and on April 19 (more than two weeks ago), I made a special trip to this jewelry store to search for a wedding band. I was impressed by the selection of rings on the website and many of them seemed to match the style of my engagement ring purchased elsewhere. The prices seemed reasonable as well. So, with high hopes, I emailed Leigh to set up an appointment. My first response to email was immediate and the next, there was no response but I called since I figured that might be quicker. Considering I factored in this store into a recent trip to see my family in NYC and literally trekked with two pieces of luggage from Queens to Manhattan on an early Monday morning, even extending my trip to fit in a weekday, I am so disappointed that my trip was fruitless. I wasted a day off and did a lot of walking to get to this place. I even scheduled my MegaBus return around my 10am appointment! Don't get me wrong. The service I received at the actual store was very positive. Leigh was friendly and informative. He let me try on many rings and even took photos of me wearing the 6-7 I had narrowed it down to. I gave Leigh my email address and he promised he would follow up with pricing so I could place an order soon. He also said he would email the pictures in color to me. I have emailed twice since my visit and have not heard back since. Not even a courtesy email maybe to say he is busy. It should not take over 2 weeks to send pricing for inventory. My girlfriend really wanted an 'antique' engagement ring so naturally I came across this store's website. The people there were helpful and friendly over email, though they seemed confused about their own inventory. I was in bit of a time crunch so I pulled the trigger and ordered from them. The delivery was prompt and came in nice packaging. However, imagine my surprise when I saw the ring itself. I found uneven spacing between the small diamonds as well as some nicks/cuts in the band itself (this was suppose to be a newly made replica, not a used antique ring). I can't say enough great things about Leigh Jay Nacht. I took a bit of an unconventional route (honestly I don't recommend it unless you have LOTS of time) and purchased a diamond separately from the setting. Many of the jewelers that I spoke to who had the setting I was looking for made the process confusing and bloated with extra steps. Winona was the exact opposite: patient, mindful, and knowledgeable. I described what I was looking for and suggested one or two settings that I thought fit based on their website. She actually came back with a suggestion that was even more perfect, and a bit cheaper! You have to appreciate for a second what happened there; Winona could have easily closed the deal on a ring that cost more, but wasn't what my fiance wanted. On top of all this, I had to have the diamond shipped to New York from the West Coast and returned to a different state in the Midwest. The whole thing was a breeze. I proposed and my fiance absolutely loves the ring. At one point I was about to propose to myself because the ring was so beautiful! I grew up in NYC and knew I was going to go to the diamond district because I am a savvy shopper and knew the craziness was worth slogging through. I knew of Leigh Jay Nacht and began staring at various rings on their site about a year prior to our first visit. We called to make an appointment and that's when we first "met" Winona. She even helped me with information about going elsewhere to sell some other jewelry. We came into NY for the day and went to their new showroom where Leigh spent almost 2 hours with us. I couldn't see the forest for the trees, there were so many beautiful options. We took a "break" by going down the block and visiting a few other jewelers.(Let me just say here that Every other diamond district experience is filled with pressure and a hi-octane atmosphere. LJN has a wonderfully serene showroom away from the hubbub). I began to know what I didn't want, but making the final choice about what I did want still eluded me. We came back a couple of months later and another sales associate spent another 2 hours with me. I have always known that I want to wear my rings 24/7 so the comfort is as important to me as the aesthetics. I was sweating the details! I worked retail for years and I have to tell you that their staff have the most patient, gentle demeanors. Not only did they never once make me feel uncomfortable due to my waffling, but they seemed to truly emphasize. They wanted me to be completely happy. I left again to take a few hours off...came back a third time and this time Leigh and Winona guided me expertly to my final choices of setting for the engagement ring as well as a band. They attended to my every question and need with aplomb. Leigh even showed me my diamond under magnification and pointed out "markers" that would allow me to know that indeed my diamond was the one that would make its way back to me in my setting. And, when all was said and done, their prices were extremely competitive and in many cases, better than other dealers on the block. And no one had the great variety of choices that they did. (Everyone else's rings all look the same!) Come to LJN when you want a deeply personal ring and experience. My engagement ring arrived yesterday, and Winona included an appraisal. I waited for my fiancé to come home and slip it on my finger. I can't stop staring at it and neither can he LOL. We are beyond thrilled. The ring is a culmination of a long search and yet, now that it is on my finger, it is like it is home. There couldn't have been another choice! Buying an engagement ring is a huge undertaking. So much comes into play. Budget, style, wearability...it can be stressful - but it can also be an enormously fun and educational experience! This Place is INCREDIBLE! I live in California, so I was a little skeptical of buying an engagement ring online... but when I called and talked to Winona (ask for her!) I was sold!. I got a diamond from 1920, with a cut that no longer exists, on an insane band that appraised and is insured for double (so I wouldn't hate losing it haha). It gets comments ALL the time! I liked it, but wanted to make a change, after sending her a photoshopped edit of the band that I made, she said no problem, there was no extra charge, and it looks insane. Although it's one of the best places around to get a deal on jewelry, the diamond district is an intimidating place. When my fiance and I discussed where to get my engagement ring, we were nervous about being swindled. We know next to nothing about fine jewelry. Since I wanted a vintage ring, I researched where to purchase estate jewelry and Leigh Jay Nacht popped up, among others. The others (nameless) were mostly rude or unresponsive when I called to make an appointment to look at rings, but Wynona at LJN immediately responded to set up a viewing. From the moment I walked in I felt very comfortable -- no stare-downs, no pressure, just a welcoming smile and relaxed atmosphere. Wynona showed me several dozen beautiful vintage rings, only one of which (a total whim) was out of my price range (and WAY out, I just tried it on for fun). She wrote down my top choices for my fiance and later emailed me photos of them as well. I didn't pick the ring -- I left that up to my fiance -- but I could not be happier. It appraised for significantly higher than what we paid, too. We were so pleased with our experience that we returned recently for wedding bands. My fiance had his made, a very simple gold band which was ready in just over a week, and I brought in my grandmother's wedding band. It needed to be resized larger and was missing all its stones, but Wynona got me an estimate within 24 hours on the cost (EXTREMELY reasonable) and the work was finished within a week. I picked both rings up this morning and they look fabulous. I was nervous that the engraving inside my grandmother's ring would be damaged by resizing, but Wynona assured me they would preserve it, and they did. I can't say enough good things about LJN and my experience with them. I will absolutely be going back there from now on for all my jewelry repair and for new stuff too. A friend referred me to LJN when I asked for recommendations for jewelers to get my vintage size 4.5 engagement ring re-sized. After multiple email inquires about resizing to other NYC jewelers, many responded and told me it would likely be too difficult a job and the original jeweler back in Seattle suggested I ship it back to get it sized there. I wrote LJN and got a prompt response from Winona who explained to me that they could not re-size rings they did not sell because of insurance liability (which was a very common response), but she suggested I come by and she could take a look and perhaps refer me to someone else. To be honest, I was a little discouraged and actually considered shipping it back to Seattle, but thought I'd stop by LJN to check my size and see what Winona thought. Unfortunately, she had already left for the day but I had the pleasure of being helped by another employee, Michael. He (and another gentleman) helped me and I could not have been happier with my experience. It was very obvious that my only intention was to get their opinion on sizing and for a referral to a jeweler that could help me (not to purchase any other jewelry) -- so I am really impressed with the care, attention and amount of time they were willing to spend with me. Michael walked me (and my parents, who were with me) over to Ralph Aletto's studio and Michael stayed with me as Ralph sized me again and gave me his recommendations. Ralph made me feel very comfortable and assured me that he could do the job. After our consultation, we said goodbye, I thanked Michael, and after discussing with my fiancé, we made an appointment with Ralph for the following week. We arrived at 9am and by 10:15... I walked out with the ring on my finger. I'm a little nervous it's too loose (I thought a little loose was better than too tight) but I'm going to try it for a few days to see how it feels. But I am extremely satisfied with Ralph's performance, the cost, the quick turnaround (1-hour while we waited!) and I felt comfortable and trusted him entirely. I feel funny reviewing a jewelry store in NYC from my home in Austin, Texas. But after the experience I had with Leigh and his team I feel compelled. I have never set foot in their showroom, but I wholeheartedly endorse this business. When we encountered an issue with a wedding band we had ordered locally, we weren't sure where to turn. I made several visits to Leigh's midtown showroom while looking for a ring--I came to really love one in particular--and even though, in the end, I didn't end up choosing one of his rings, I wanted to leave a review because of the exemplary experience I had in working with him. Leigh is a true consummate professional: patient, knowledgable, and friendly, not to mention prompt with his e-mails and follow-ups, which I appreciate as a Type A, zero-patience person. Never once did I feel rushed, or like I was being pressured into a purchase. Regarding the pieces themselves, Leigh's selection of replica and antique rings and bands is wonderful, high-quality, and varied, whether you're on the hunt for a jazzy Art Deco piece, a Victorian ring with quiet feminine flourish, or a pared-back mid-century ring, and the prices are extremely reasonable. It's really unparalleled. There were so many things I liked, but I'm the kind of person that likes to try things on before I buy them. My wonderful boyfriend wanted to be sure I'd love my ring, and so we went to NYC to visit LJN (and eat bagels, see a show, and eat more bagels). I'm glad we went because the ring I loved the most in person I had missed on the website. The store was charming and comfortable, and the woman who helped us while we were looking was patient and kind. She spent a lot of time with us, and her relaxed attitude made the whole experience really enjoyable. I had no idea at the time that my boyfriend already had an heirloom diamond (set in a piece of men's jewelry), but LJN was wonderful about working with him to extract it and set it in one of their designs. The diamond is slightly yellow, and so Winona suggested a slight modification to the design (a gold bezel) to help accentuate the color of the diamond. My boyfriend and I would have never thought to do that, and she was right. it really brings out the color and makes the ring that much more unique. It's absolutely gorgeous! Visiting Leigh Jay Nacht's showroom was really a lovely experience. My boyfriend and I had been looking for an engagement ring for weeks and had run the gamete of the diamond district and, as you can imagine, had experienced the whole range of customer service experience as well as quality of products. When first walking in, the building was under construction and the showroom wasn't very well marked and so we were very unsure of what the experience would be like (it seemed sketchy as hell). However, once we had navigated our way up to the store, the space was lovely and open and we were immediately greeted by Leigh. He was so kind! Unlike so many places that we had gone (where the associates were either too pushy and hovered- or so aloof that it made us feel uncomfortable and like we were intruding) Leigh was so genuine and kind and clearly valued us being there, but also gave us space to look and talk between ourselves. He made the shopping experience so enjoyable! The selection of vintage and estate rings that he has are also lovely. I would say that most of them tend to be on the more modest and conservative side of vintage jewelry, but they were all clearly high quality, and although not quite what we were looking for I would ABSOLUTELY recommend anyone I knew who was getting married to visit his store. Great rings. Great service. I bought my fiancee's engagement ring from these guys in March 2013. I used their website since I live on the other side of the country. There was a ring that I had my eye on for a few weeks, but somebody bought it. Winona worked with me and even sent me pictures of diamonds and rings that they could use to create a ring that was similar to the one I wanted. I ended up buying another ring that I had my eye on, and my fiancee loves it. She says that it feels weird when she's not wearing it. Leigh Jay Nacht has some gorgeous rings that you cannot find elsewhere--especially if you want a vintage ring or a vintage-style ring, which is what I went with. I wanted to surprise my girlfriend (errr... Fiancée) with an original vintage ring and LJN was the first site to pop up during my initial google searches. The website was easy to navigate and Winona was quick to respond to my request for availability. I expressed interest in about 8 or 9 rings in my budget and came by the showroom during lunch. Winona had all the rings ready within a couple minutes of my arrival and was extremely helpful with all the questions I had. She helped me narrow down my list, provided a couple alternates that I hadn't seen on the website, and finally after much deliberation, I decided on the perfect ring. Winona provided me with an electronic copy of the appraisal (considerate as she didn't want to ruin the surprise by mailing it to us...) and gave me a reference to a good jewelry insurance company to use. A few days later, we were engaged and only had to come by the showroom one more time to get the ring resized. We dropped it off at 10am and picked it up later the same day, perfectly resized and cleaned! Firstly, my experience was very similar to Betty C's, although I never went to the shop in person. After becoming engaged, I contacted Leigh et al about their rings, because I love the delicate antique style and their rings seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I had a few questions about some of their rings, so after a few phone calls and emails, I decided on one. I should mention that I live in Canada, so had to do all communication by phone or email. When I actually got to talk to Leigh or one of his associates, they were very personable, informative, and helpful. We decided on a ring that would be appropriate, a size of stone, type of metal, and other relevant details. I wanted to place a Sapphire stone in the ring, they said that this would be no problem and the next step in the process was that they would go find a few for me to choose from, and send me photos from which to choose. I waited a week, then two weeks, and finally started phoning and emailing repeatedly to get any information at all. Several times I was told that they had Sapphires in the store, and were all ready to email me photos of them. Countless phone calls and multiple emails later, over a two month period, it became apparent that they were never going to follow through on their commitment to sell me a ring, since they made no effort to contact me or update me on any progress, status, reasons for delays, etc. It's been almost three months, I have received zero contact from the jeweler since I stopped phoning them to find out what they needed from me to move forward. Working with AE.com was an extremely disappointing experience. Perhaps working with them in person in New York works fine, and perhaps their rings are beautiful, but working with them over a longer distance is next to impossible. Look elsewhere. read more

My fiancé and I wanted to pick out a new setting for my grandmother's diamond, and we were drawn to the unique vintage recreations at Leigh Jay Nacht. Wow!!! So incredibly happy with the ring Leigh made for me. I went in with my bf and his mom and Leigh spent time with the three of us going over some of the different designs I like.
