I have been bringing my cars here for over 20 years now. I had a Green Honda Accord that I took the most because I kept getting hit. Then I had a GMC Acadia that was newly released and that had a few issues. Now I've been in a Buick Enclave for the last 8 years and I only had to take it a couple times for problems. Thankfully most of the visits in this car have only been oil changes. Mr. Ahn always does excellent work and charges fairly. I only take my cars to him and I always recommend him. When I got another newer car, I started going to the dealer thinking I was doing something great to preserve my car for long life. Nope!!!! Excited to be the first to review this AMAZING auto repair shop in Leimert Park! Rewind back, nearly two years ago when I first moved to Los Angeles... I drove down with a U-Haul, and my over-protective mother, whom on a drive through West Hollywood (we were headed to Cha Cha Cha) noticed that my brakes sounded terrible. Worried about leaving me in a strange city with bad brakes, she began asking her friends if they knew of a repair shop in LA that was reasonable. With no luck, we stumbled upon Leimert Auto Service while driving through Leimert Park (I was showing her where I really wanted to live). A pleasant man named Ahn greeted us in the parking lot/old gas station pump area and asked us what service we needed. I told him I thought I was in need of new brakes. He scratched his head, looked at the car, and asked if he could give it a spin. We said yes, and watched him drive off. Upon his return he told us that he didn't think I needed new brakes, but if I wanted to he would replace them. My Mom, being the now persistent woman that she is, demanded that I get new brakes, so he began removing things from my tires (I have no idea what I am talking about at this point) consulted with his assistant, and came over to us again. "No, really, you don't need new brakes. Let me show you." So my mom and I looked at the brake disk thingy-ma-jig, and agreed with him. They looked pretty good. So what was causing that god-awful sound whenever I pressed the brake?? Ahn, being the nice, honest, owner he is, offered to investigate. He layed on his back in the hot September sun, got under my car, and found the issue... The rubbery flap that protects my engine from those car ruining parking space stoppers, was falling off and rubbing against my tires when I engaged the brakes. (Must be Physics or something.) He ran around his shop, and found a screw the correct size for my rubber thingy, made some new holes, and put everything back in it's place. We offered to pay him, but he just declined, smiled and said, "My pleasure." I have been taking my 2002 Honda Civic to Ahn ever since that day, and he has replaced my brakes (FOR REALLY CHEAP), fixed my electrical problem (a new battery), and given me a few oil changes. He is incredibly honest, thorough, and friendly. He is not condescending, especially towards women, and is a great listener. Not to mention he has reasonable prices. I've gone there a lot in the past but lately Ahn (however u spell it) has not been sticking to his business hours. M-f is says til 5pm and I've came both Friday and today and he was closed before the time. I also came on Saturday at 11am and he was already closed when the time says til 1pm. Very unprofessional. Leimert Auto Service 4376 Leimert Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90008 (Mechanic, Mr. Hahn) Disregard the STAR - NO star should be given I am the owner of a Land Rover, Freelander 05. I am writing this review to inform other customers about mechanics trumping up charges with parts and labor, which we all know is not uncommon in this line of work. I had a diagnostic done on my truck to find out what was causing the problem with a flashing icon on the dash board and check light engine. The diagnostic showed that it might be a transmission issue. Mr. Hahn (mechanic) ruled out that it was not a fuse, and claimed there were no other problems after he glanced under the hood; then stated he didn't know what the problem was. He called a co-worker/friend who supposedly specialized and worked on "Land Rovers". His immediate response was that it needed a $3,000 dollar transmission, without checking or seeing the truck. A specialist would in fact have known that the Land Rovers from 2003 and newer no longer had the (traditional) transmissions. He further insults my intelligence, by stating that his friend can replace/rebuild the transmission and he (Mr. Hahn) will oversee, because "it is a big job", if this mechanic knew how to fix Land Rovers, he should have also known that it is a transmission module/brain and not the traditional cumbersome transmission, and the work was not that extensive; bolting down a box and two screws hardly calls for a "BIG JOB". Yes, it might be time consuming due to the constraints of the vehicle, but let's not exaggerate. The newer models consist of a medium size device that resembles a shoe box and has two screws and cost vary from $100 -- $ 250, but they were planning on charging $3,000. I understand the mechanic business is one of the largest and most dishonest arenas to work in, and the sole purpose is to make a profit, but this is ridiculous. I was referred to him by one my supervisor's and was informed that he was "honest", and held "Christian" values; I clearly see and understand that, trust, honesty and reputable are not correlated with mechanics, but having a little integrity would be nice. I felt that we had a better understanding/ relationship, with relating actual problems with my vehicle. I have had work done at this shop for a couple of years now and had no problems paying for actual repairs; and I guess that was the problem. Mr. Hahn could have referred me to another mechanic if he did not know the inner workings of the vehicle. Creating a $3,000 bill for a vehicle that no longer has the older model part, having major work that was supposedly to be done; and without thoroughly inspected is totally unacceptable, to say that this situation is a disappointment is an understatement. The actual problem with the vehicle is the ABS braking system, and the part cost $250. If I get the right tools and watch the you-tube do-it-yourself, step by step, I can Install myself, and save $2,750. Sincerely, Disappointed Reading your owner's manual, learning your vehicle, research and follow scheduled maintenance is something we can do as consumers to help aid in decision making when seeking mechanics and having work done. I am definitely a fan! My family and I have been going here for years. Mr. Ahn is a sweet guy. He is also honest and will tell you what's wrong with your car. When he says he will call you after he checks your car out, he keeps his word. Every repair I've had with the exception of one is done the same day. Most recently I've had my alternator and hoses replaced. I know my car is old but he keeps her running and I am grateful and all at relatively fair prices. He is the person I think of first whenever my car has trouble. I do wish that they opened earlier and stayed open later for those who need to drop their cars off earlier or pick up their cars later in the evening, but I guess you can't please everybody. read more

Thank you, Ashley, for helping me find Leimert Auto Service! I am a resident of West Adams (mid City) and Leimert Park is this very cool neighborhood in the Crenshaw district nearby. Check it out for its jazz history, too. (Remember the scene in that movie where Tom Cruise is a hit man? and they go to this jazz club....that's in Leimert Park). Anyway, I found Ahn cutting roses outside his auto shop. I drove in around 10:00 with my 2000 CRV which I suspected had bad brakes -- as in needed to be replaced -- but I wasn't sure. I told Ahn about Ashley's review in Yelp and he smiled and said, "I don't even have a computer!" So he didn't even know about it. As he finished a little watering, I commented about the lovely roses and potted trees around the shop area. He is into his gardening! The car had to be in shape to drive friends to Lancaster that night - it was Saturday and the shop was going to close at 2:00 so I was fairly panicked about getting it done that day. Ahn took the front tires off and confirmed that I did need new brakes. The place was full of cars on racks and ones waiting....but Ahn made it happen for me. I would have a few hours though because I was last in line... I took the time to go to the OBAMA rally in progress right across the street! There is a beautiful park there with a huge fountain, very pleasant! A Starbucks and bank, everything you need is nearby so you can use your time well while waiting. Ahn's mechanic was courteous and efficient and I liked seeing him take my car for a test drive once it was done, which was around 1:45 pm. The cost was $165 - which I think is pretty standard (another recommended mechanic quoted $175). I have not had any problems with the new brakes -- and am very happy. I like this place! It is by no means fancy -- their waiting area is a few tree-stump tables and chairs -- but it is shady and pleasant. And I found Ahn to be a good person -- definitely worth a try if you're looking for a local mechanic who will be fair and honest. read more

I took in my 1998 Honda Accord to Ahn a few months ago and got OK (not great) service. They were able to fix what I needed to fix at a reasonable price. However, when I got my car back the speedometer stopped working correctly. I realized this about a mile after I got my car back. I quickly turned around and told him the problem. He wanted to charge me more just to fix the speedometer! I refused to pay him more money for something that was working BEFORE he fixed the car. He was recommended to me by a family friend who has been using Ahn for years. I don't know why he would do that, but because of it I'll never use Ahn or his services again. read more

I am a client of this Auto Service for more than 20 years; this facility and the owner is the best I have ever known. Honest, credible and rates 10 stars if such were available. I do not consider many people a personal friend, but Ahn I do. As a business owner, it is a shame many do not have the same integrity as he does. If he is unable to accomplish a task, then something major impacted his ability to succeed. This is establishment is a gem among the many repair shops that look like eyesores in our community. Got a brake job a few weeks ago with this place. Brakes still squeaking. Left car told it'll be ready in two hours. Got a call he'd found another problem price almost another 300.00 ok fix it. Get there when he's about to close because he was very clear he'd close at 1pm. They've taken my car apart but can't get the part(go figure everybody knows Saturdays aren't days mechanics work past 1pm especially shops so the person who brings him parts won't come) They are now on the hunt for the parts having no luck. Never respecting my needs. I had appoints and tickets bought for that afternoon because my car was suppose to be ready. VERY disappoint I had so much hope and respect for this shop. Only reason I gave a two is because he also changed my oil and deducted from my price. My car was pulling to the left after I drove away it wasn't doing that when I came. I, too, am a satisfied customer. I have been patronizing Mr. Ahn (he's Korean & can be very formal....but, he calls me Bob now.) for many years. What hooked me was his honesty and standing behind his work. If something didn't work out the way I thought it should, I took the car back only to find out that it was another problem. No, he didn't create the problem. Over the years as my kids grew up, I had them to take their cars there. Now, my grandkids take their cars to him as well. It's become a family affair and he is like an old friend of the family. If it's a small task, he'll refuse to accept pay. I live close by so he drives me home and then picks me up when the work is completed.
