Really like the new location for Leisure, a britpop nightclub/dance club. Upstairs is a lot more roomy, with a bigger Karaoke room and a quieter room next to it with couches, windows on to the street, and a fireplace. British Pop karaoke you can't find anywhere else (Glasvegas! The Editors!!). Russell, the karaoke host, is rad. Minus one star for the cash only bar and the limited beer selection. read more

A really good time. DJs Aaron and Omar know what they're doing. The band was "eh" last Saturday, but they were playing covers so who cares? The music was awesome, the crowd was some sort of hipster-crossed-with-urban-my-friend-made-me-go people which was cool because everyone was agreed on dancing and dancing a lot. The drinks are decently priced, newcastle, guinness, etc. on tap. karaoke room in the back. Like any club, can get unbearably hot - but this is to be expected. Gotta love it. Brit Pop, Soul, and Indie to dance to while 90s music videos and pics of Moz play in the background. I have been going here for sometime and can not complain it def is one of my fav nights in the city. Karoke in the back where people get trashed and go all out to the sounds of Pulp and the Charlatans, what more could you ask for? Cover is decent, and lots of cute Brits and anglophiles alike. yes, "brit pop" existed before 1980! and at leisure, you can not only hear early brit rockers (plus the standard blur-pulp fare), but you're occasionally treated to the american r&b dance hits that inspired 'em. (not, of course, any robert or chester or mckinley--but wouldn't THAT be a good night of drinking--and pop music history?) mixed and laid back crowd. while most reviews here have commented on the "older crowd," i find that leisure's full of youngsters. (i'm 27 for context.) boys invariably sport skinny ties and floppy hair falling diagnally across the forehead. hot girl candy, or should i say hot young girl candy? also, annie's is just an awesome bar. i have a crush on owner-annie (whom i've seen many times but never spoken to) from afar. kinda miss going to bail bonds row, though. i suppose that's a different review. read more

It is hot in there. Good music and good times though. It reminds me of Popscene. It probably helped that I was wasted but I had so much fun. Cover is pretty cheap and drinks are decently priced. I have already made plans to go back and rock that dance floor. read more

One night in this damn city that actually has good freakin' music every month!!

As this is the only place in SF where one can listen and dance to the British sound of 80s and 90s, I am always tempted to go. If only DJs would have a more versatile sets of songs. Sadly, no surprises... ever. If there are, they are totally blurred. Also, speaking of the interior, everything is wrong with the Paradise Lounge. Everything. Lotsa fun if you like brit pop and stiff drinks because they play a great mix and its a big crowd of lots of artsy hipster alternative kinda nerdy but chill kids and stuff (by stuff i guess i particularly mean that strange mustachio'd-curlicue dude in misfitted suit and that the over-liquored girl who really wanted to be a crazy brunette alternative bi paris hilton but just passed out before i could bum a parliament off her to make a certain soon to be ex mad). It doesn't even matter that the music, good as it is, does not really lend to good dancing because, well, it just doesn't matter, you can sweat regardless and, so long as you like brit pop, it's great music. Plus they serve up great stiff drinks and have great bar service, so the $7 cover is definitely worth it for a fun (white) night of british alternative trendiness in a divey comfy place (Annie's Social Club - http://www.yelp.com/biz/annies-social-club-san-francisco). Leisure is home to Brit music from all decades: the 60's (Rolling Stones, The Who), the 70's (The Clash, The Buzzcocks), the 80's (New Order) a giant dose of the 90's (Oasis, Pulp, Blur,) and recent stuff (Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party). It is part of Annie's Social Club but without the band scene. There is a karaoke room at the back, also dominated by Britpop. This place is great for anglophiles but some of the music gets repeated after an hour. Expect a lot of dancing with heads bobbing up and down in small circles of friends. Drinks are good, cheap, and strong, with fast service too. read more

Leisure moved from ASC to Paradise Lounge, and changed from a five star experience to 3 stars at best. Paradise Lounge is missing character, and while ASC was a destination, Leisure now seems to attract a lot of people that were visiting some of the other clubs around. The result is a much younger and a lot more aggressive crowd. read more

5 stars because i'm a total 'anglophile' and also i started DJing here a few months ago with those good lads Omar and Aaron, from Popscene. i'm not being biased ... i would be here every month regardless if i spun records here or not. the music is great - mostly 90s britpop a la pulp, blur, suede, oasis ... with some surprises mixed in like rolling stones, ramones, some 60s soul. there's also some pretty cool visuals of jarvis cocker, etc., which definately adds to the atmosphere. if you get bored of the main room dancefloor, you could always go into the backroom where my friend, Bill, hosts a killer karaoke with lots of britpop selections. it's seriously a fun night. something that SF lacks these days because it seems like people stopped going out to club nights for the dancing and the music ... it's more revolved around crappy electro/dance-punk/hyphy bullcrap. sorry, i don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. i just think this night rules. cheers! read more
