I have 2 experiences with this bakery.. My first experience was over the phone.. I called and it rang a few times and when someone answered, it was unprofessional and I can tell I was on speaker.. They answered the phone with just a "hello" so I wasn't even sure I had the right phone number.. they were yelling to talk to me and kept asking me to repeat myself. I gave up and just went to the location to get some questions answered. When I got there.. I walked straight out. Place was so small, over crowded and can barely move. We tried going to this place twice from So. Lake Tahoe. The first time on a Monday, only to find that they are closed on Mondays. Hours were not updated and called, but no message or anyone answering. Second time on a Thursday, only to friend that they DO NOT make any bakery or hot food items - only on Saturdays. Their so called "market" was very disappointing having only some "junk food items" such as shrimp chips and prepackaged pastries. We wasted time and gas for disappointment. So disappointing! Saw mixed reviews, wanted to give it a shot. The Ube bread was moldy and had to be thrown out. I got there right when they opened and all the hot prepared food already had a film over it. There is a small grocery section with some chips and pantry items, but nothing big enough to make it worth going back. After running errands in Sparks, I checked out a cute little Filipino Bakery, Lelac's. The store is small, and is a takeout kinda place. I was immediately greeted by a sweet young man, who was friendly and very helpful. He explained what everything was, as I pointed to each and every item which was foreign to me (pretty much everything in the bakery). I settled on kepeng (pastry with brown sugar) and pan de ube (pastry filled with sweet purple yam). He kindly offered me a sample of the ginataang (creamy dessert with coconut milk, tapioca, yam, sweet potato, two kinds of banana and jackfruit). I think the ginataang was my fav. Everything was good (I sorta sampled a bit of everything immediately). There were pork buns, chicken buns, breads, sweets, and grocery items (such as coconut jam--whaaaaaa?). Lot parking is available right in front of the store. I really liked this little place. I would recommend it and will defiantly return. read more

Maybe since I came in early morning, that's why there was hardly anything to choose from. There was only maybe 5-6 different baked goods to choose from, and only 2-3 packages each thing. I got the pan de ube and was so excited to try it! But once my husband and I finally did, it was 95% bread and 5% ube with each thing. Each bite we took was literally all bread. I was disappointed since some of the pictures on here showed a lot of purple yam in their bread. I will definitely still come back because I saw they had banana ketchup which I love! And some Filipino chips I grew up eating. Not sure yet if they do small orders of their food, I only saw full size tray prices. read more

Horrible customer service. I went in today and asked to order lumpia to pick up tomorrow or Thursday. The elderly lady wouldn't even look at me to talk to me. Told me she couldn't make it because they ran out a couple days ago and wouldn't make any more. The whole time she was talking to me, or barely talking to me, she was rolling lumpia while putting her fingers in her hair and wiping her nose. I don't think I'll ever order from here again. Sparks has a cool new Filipino bakery. And Honey Bakery in Reno has a competitor for steamed and baked buns. Lelac opened June 1 but I didn't notice it until yesterday. They have Filipino baked goods, like something with sweet yams. As a gringo, I loved the cream cheese roll with the fruit filling. They also have steamed and baked buns. I got a steamed bun with pork adobo. They also have chicken adobo. My baked bun had a variety of ingredients. The dough was perfect on all of them. They have sticky rice too, but I passed on that. Nice little bakery specializing in FIlipino breads. Since keeping inventory fresh is a priority, everything is baked in small batches to ensure quality. I love siopao (pronounced shoe pow), which is basically a steamed bun with your choice of pork or chicken inside of it. The version they make here are massive. Best way to eat these are to keep them refrigerated, then wrap in a wet paper towel and nuke for about 2 minutes and they come out steaming hot and tasty. They have a small steam table and have a handful of dishes. As is what seems to be a standard practice in every Filipino restaurant, none of the dishes were labeled, so it was a guessing game to figure out what each dish was. The owner was very helpful. I ended up with some yummy pancit, jasmine rice and some sort of lechon (roast pork) dish. Everything was really good. My only recommendation for improvement would be more labeling of food (so people who aren't so familiar with the food won't have to ask questions about every dish) and listing pricing. This quaint little shop is our go to place for some of the best empanadas around. For those of you that are not familiar with empanadas or maybe wondering what they are.... The Filipino empanada is made with chicken and has different vegetables like potatoes, green peas, carrots encased in a delicious outer pie crust shell that has a sweet tasting glaze over the top... I guess you could compare it as a travel sized chicken pot pie :) While you're here picking up your empanadas, don't forget to pick up some Pan de Ube rolls and some Pan de Coco rolls to take home to possibly share with others...Lol :) If bakery items are not in your appetite, then be sure to check out their food menu which has a fantastic selection of non bakery items to choose from. Came here a week ago with high expectations based on the stars here on Yelp. We bought pan de ube, spanish bread, cheese roll, hopia, siopao and a rice cake. As soon as I got to the car, I opened up the bag of pan de ube and was very disappointed. It was dry and it barely had any filling! I proceeded to open the other bags of bread to try them, and all I can say is that I wanted to throw them out in the garbage. All of the breads were dry, had LITTLE to NO filling, and the hopia pastry was undercooked. The only thing that we enjoyed at that very moment was the rice cake that was nice and warm since it just came out of the oven when we got there. As much as i hate to encourage micromanaging, if you do order from here, definitely follow up more than once and make sure everything is in order and on time. I came back during the morning time. My husband and I bought chicken siopao, which was pretty tasty and a Filipino dessert (Sticky coconut rice at the bottom with brown sugar caramel on top.) Unfortunately, this dessert was subpar for the hubby. He took 1 bite and gave up on it. We'll try it again sometime....reluctantly The sign on the door says open til 6:30. I'm filipino and wanted to get a bunch of filipino desserts. Upon entering, the shelves where they have their bakery items was almost bare. There wasn't much items to choose from. I ended up getting pandesol, pandesol with ube inside, and their version of manapua. Sadly, they were all not to my liking. We arrived late to place our order they were closed when we arrived but she came back and unlock the doors just so we can place our 2 day notice for a 50 pounder. Yelp needs negative stars! They lie and are deceptive. I asked if they made any bread that did not contain wheat. The lady said the Pan de Coco contained no wheat.
