A very nice coffee shop in the lovely downtown Carrollton area. I ordered the bees knees and the avocado toast and overall really enjoyed my breakfast. This place got pretty crowded quickly on a Friday and it's not super huge so make sure to get here early. I will say that just how it's laid out, I personally wouldn't really try to stay for a long time to study like I would at other coffee shops. The coffee was well made and I highly recommend it. Just slightly sweet and tasted very balanced. The avocado toast I wasn't too impressed with. It wasn't bad, but it just made me wish I ordered something else. A slice of bread with avocado smear, cherry tomatoes and raw onions for $6 wasn't as satisfying as I wanted it to be. It would be cool if they pickled the onions so your not just biting into raw onion. read more

Found location on Yelp to meet a friend and ordered a chai latte hot while waiting which was really good. I was definitely interested in the Food Menu offerings and had my eye on the Raspberry Jam Grilled Cheese but I'll have to try it next time I'm in the area. We're never in Carrollton.. except for today, and the coffee here will probably have us driving back!! My Lemma latte was so flavorful and bold, it's travel-worthy for sure!! The hubs got an iced mocha, described as having a citrus kick, and he loved it! So glad we stopped by to give this place a try. read more

Most of my co-workers are still working from home. To change things up, we decided to meet up and have a work session outside the comfort of our home the coming Friday. We picked out this coffee place because the location is mutually convenient to us. The place is not big. They put tables and chairs on the two sides against the walls, leaving the middle of the place open. So the interior looks comfy and spacious. If you like to sit outside, you can take one of the tables right outside to enjoy the the Carrollton downtown traffic while sipping your coffee or latte. As usual, when I come to a new coffee place, I always try their house coffee. If they do it right, everything else will fall into place. They do offer different kinds of coffee. Upon recommendation of the barista, I went for Kirinyaga, which is a Kenya coffee. The coffee is very aromatic, not too strong, smooth with a pleasant fruity taste. I also tried their strawberry and cheese sandwich, which is an interesting combination. It was sweet and, of course, cheesy. I liked the toasted bread also. My co-workers ordered their hot turkey and cucumber avocado sandwiches. They all seemed to enjoy it very much since they didn't complain about anything. Knowing they roast their own coffee, one of my coworkers bought a small bag of coffee beans home. We enjoyed the food and drinks, and the friendly service. And most of all, we got some work done to wrap up our work week! read more

Came here after dinner with friends. It was fine, nothing special or unique. The drink was also just fine. It is nice that there is s coffee shop in The little downtown area. If i do come back to Carrollton, i wouldn't mind coming back here, but won't make my way back for this specific shop. read more

Took a detour on my way to lunch and found myself in this little coffee shop today. Ambiance: cute and plenty of seating. I almost missed the extra seating around the corner of the coffee bar. Everything was kept very clean. Service: quick! The baristas really know what they're doing here. Lemma latte: I opted for the lemma latte with oat milk. Love the latte art! The coffee was a little on the sour side for me so it wasn't as smooth as I'd hope it to be. Something was missing there but I still down that latte in less than 3 minutes so I definitely still enjoyed it. Looking forward to my next visit here. Their pastries look so delicious! read more

Friendly baristas and fast service! Tried the lemma latte which is a latte with condensed milk - I usually prefer my drinks on the sweeter side so this was perfect without being too sweet. The coffee is really rich and almost has a nutty taste. I am no coffee connoisseur but I enjoyed it! There's ample seating inside. On a weekday afternoon it was really quiet and great for getting some work done. I liked their music taste - generally on the softer side, not too loud or distracting for the environment. YAY I love this place! I'm a big coffee drinker and usually I don't get sweet coffee. However, I saw on Yelp someone getting a BeesKnees and I couldn't pass on such a cute coffee haha BeesKnees had the perfect amount of sweetness and coffee balance! I hope to be back to try their regular black coffee. The employees were very nice and although its not a big cafe it wasn't too loud. They do have restroom but you have to go out their back door and walk down a very long hallway haha just so y'all know. read more

We stopped for a late breakfast/coffee stop, and this might be our new favorite spot! Everyone in the store were so nice and helpful. The cafe is clean and simple. It gives off a nice, calming vibe. The food was delicious and reasonably priced! The turkey chipotle sandwich is originally cold, but she offered to toast the bread for me! Definitely recommend! read more

What a hidden gem in vintage downtown of Carrollton! this is going to be my favorite coffee of 2021. Atmosphere: 4.5/5 Quiet and spacey. Sittings available for about 15-16 people. Social distancing is recommended and put on a mask to enter the venue. Love the simple/cozy Interior. I couldn't take the picture of my favorite side of the store due to people sitting right in front of the wall. Once you enter the store, you will feel this refreshint vibe that this place is legit and serious about their coffee. I like this kind of store compared to venues that heavily focus on interior without no representation for their coffee. Service & Taste 5/5 Everybody knows their coffee. Everybody has good recommendations. I tried my usual fave, Cortado with their specialty beans from Honduras. Oh my.. that will definitely be my top 5 Cortado I have had. Pleasantly sweet crema is always my priority for Cortado and they nailed it. Their pastries were very good as well. Take it from a self-proclaimed coffee snob who lived in coffee-heaven for 4 years (aka Seattle), this place is legit! I've tried a number of coffee spots around DFW, and this is my favorite by far. Been a few times, always friendly and clean. I've only had the house drip, which is better than average. Only a 4 star review because the to go coffee cups are the ones that leak at the rim where the cup meets the lid. I find it very frustrating that every time I sip the coffee, I have a wet coffee hand. And eventually I have coffee drip stains on my clothing and truck seat. read more

I love Lemma; it's one of my favorite coffee shops in "Dallas" (Carrollton). I always get a black coffee, americano, or pour over when I go, so I can't speak to the latte crowd. But I like their coffee! Probably this place's strong point is the service and the vibe -- the people who work there have always been so polite and offered good service. As for the atmosphere, it's on the quieter side, ideal for reading, journaling, a coffee date, or conversation with a friend. It's right off the charming little downtown Carrollton space too. Great coffee, cozy cafe, and friendly service. My maple cappuccino with oat milk ($5.50) was delicious and even had latte art which is hard to pull off with alternative milks. They have local pastries available, and the additional seating in the back had easy access power strips mounted above the bench seat. Plenty of free parking available around this historic downtown Carrollton area. Looking forward to coming back! read more

Good Coffee, but Ask for Extra Syrup at Lemma Lemma has really good coffee, but I'd recommend asking for extra syrup if you like your drinks sweet. Their house-made syrup is nice, but it doesn't have the same level of sweetness as what you get at most regular coffee shops. The service is great, and the vibes are perfect for a relaxing coffee break. Definitely worth a visit! read more

Went for a coffee date with 2 people. The cafe is bigger than It seems- it also feels like many people come there to work in a quiet atmosphere which honestly we broke. Minimalist architecture accented with wood and plants make for a lovely visual appeal as a boutique coffee shop of Historic Downtown Carrollton. Friendly staff and ambiance. Their lattes are great and the ginger turmeric tea was an experience for the tastebuds. Without sugar the strong turmeric and ginger flavors can overpower the senses, but then again it is an acquired taste. Delicious none the less. read more

Perfection - I'm a coffee connoisseur and this is on par with the best cappuccino I've ever had. The coffee beans used for pour overs are ridiculously delicious also. The sandwiches are also very very good. We discovered Lemma at the Dallas Coffee Fest and have been there several times since. Wish it was closer to downtown Dallas as I would love to go here everyday. read more

Went here before work, it looks very nice inside. I came for an iced mocha and breakfast tacos but she said they no longer sell breakfast tacos. The other food didn't interest me so I went to Jack instead for for food. So this is just off the coffee and service. The lady was really nice and I got the coffee fast. Their coffee is really strong and good. Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for good coffees.. read more

This place was a delightful surprise with its food. Since it's a coffee shop, we didn't expect too much of the food but everything was good. The avocado toast was so yummy and creamy, with red onions and avocado on top making it refreshing. The ham and cheese sandwich was yuuummy too!! Perfect amount of bread to filling ratio. The sauce and cheese was perfectly portioned out as well and enhanced the flavor. We also got a fruit parfait which was so yummy though a little smaller lol. Cute vibes and plenty of space inside. I love this spot in downtown carrollton! They have great seasonal drinks (I hope they make the cafe con miel permanent; it is so yummy!). In general, they always have great drink options. They have great options for a light meal or a snack, whichever you're in need of and the food is tasty too! The employees are always very kind and great customer service. No matter who makes my drink, it always taste great (consistency is key). It's a great spot for catching up or studying. read more

As a regular here, I love the coffee which is roasted with care! Occasionally some of the hot milky drinks turn out underwhelming (the milk is sometimes burnt, see the photo). But the iced espresso drinks are always tasty. Plus, get a hot turkey sandwich!!! They're divine read more

I fully sent it and got three drinks while I was here. The shot of espresso was just okay, very acidic, not my personal preference. The pour over was awesome, very bold and delicious. The last drink I had was an iced cinnamon maple latte and that tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch + coffee. Took some self control not to straight down it. I wish I could of had a big gulp size of that one. When I find myself back in Dallas I will 100% come back for that Service was very friendly! read more

At Lemma Coffee Roasters, our people are what set us apart. We're passionate, we're creative, we're lighthearted, we love making coffee and having fun with our customers. Our mission is to celebrate specialty coffee while creating an experience that is fun, uplifting and doesn't take itself too seriously.

History

Established in 2017.

In just under two years, Lemma has grown from a one-person show working local farmers markets, to supplying several DFW coffee shops and grocers as wholesale partners, to operating a mobile coffee truck, to most recently opening a full-service espresso bar on the campus of University of Texas at Dallas. Now, we are a team of 8 and have planted our roots and opened our first storefront, which houses our roasting operation as well as a full-service cafe, in downtown Carrollton.

Meet the Business Owner: Daniel B.

In the summer of 2017, Daniel Baum, our owner and founder, left his former career path in commercial photography to pursue his passion of sourcing, roasting and serving mind-blowing, single-origin coffee. Knowing that the key to a successful business is people, he aspired to eventually build a team and create the kind of positive workplace culture that he wanted to see more of in the professional world.

BLACK PHIN: It's kind of difficult to describe what kind of flavor it is and what makes this particular Vietnamese coffee blend so unique. I usually prefer hot coffee. When you first get it, it offers a sweet aroma, like notes of condensed milk. But, it's not sweet flavored. Unless you prefer cream and sugar in your coffee. With every sip it becomes more and more uniquely flavorful. It offers a bold flavor for your taste buds. I typically can drink up to two 12oz cups, but even then I don't finish the entire cup. This one, I can finish the entire cup and crave more. ATMOSPHERE: The space is cozy and small. It stays busy throughout the day. It offers limited seating with a unique layout. You will find a few tables with chairs to the left of the entrance. Three open cubbyholes with tables and chairs, on the right side. The middle cubbyhole has a beautiful wooden world map. They have a small waiting area in the corner. This corner offers large wooden shelves full of unique merchandise for all your coffee needs. The shelves look like they've been thoughtfully designed and look elegant without overcrowding the space. SERVICE: All three times I've visited the service has been welcoming, efficient and the order made right. Even if your order is not to your satisfaction, they'll gladly remake it for you. The staff were friendly and helpful if you're new to Vietnamese coffee culture. PARKING: Extremely difficult to get a parking spot here. Be sure to plan your visit accordingly. You can drop your car buddy off and circle around a few times. OVERALL: All three times I visited, my hot Black Phin had exact same consistency as the first sip. Next time I visit DFW area, this is a must stop for me. I highly recommend you give them a try. They offer great menu variety of drinks and food options. They do offer complimentary Wi-Fi, if you need to stay inside, get work done or just catch up with your friends and family.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit was disappointing. I called ahead to confirm that my order was ready for pickup, and I was told everything was set. However, when I arrived, the staff member informed me that the order had not been started and that they did not have it available. I told her that was okay and that I was willing to wait. What bothered me most was the customer service. The staff member rolled her eyes, and walked away several times without explaining what was happening. When the coffee bags were finally brought out, she walked away again, I still needed to complete payment and receive a receipt. Despite trying to get assistance, I was ignored until I stopped her and asked directly. I've had mostly positive experiences here with the coffee beans over the years, so this interaction stood out for the wrong reasons. I hope management can provide additional customer service training to ensure customers feel acknowledged and respected.
