for a neighorhood tap, they've got a decent selection of beers on tap and in bottles, but nothing that can compete with the selection with hopleaf or map room. though, it's not about quantity of selection with this place. it's about great bartenders, good music, and a decent crowd. yeah, sometimes it can feel like you're an outsider. that's because the regulars are die-hard. i'm only a semi-regular, so i get the outsider vibe meyself, but that's only until you dive into some of the conversations. overall, it's a pretty welcoming spot. one thing that does get on my nerves... they only have guiness in a can. can't stand that stuff. would it be too much to have it on tap? read more

This is a classy neighborhood bar, lots if wood, good beer on tap and most importantly awesome pinball machines. Actually the pinball machines are in pristine condition, two of my favorite titles, monster bash and ac dc, totally great. I was looking for a dive bar near Whirlyball and Lemmings came up first and was pretty close by. It was tiny, just as I hoped. The bar was crowded, but I didn't wait a super long time for a drink. The bartenders are attentive and watchful for people in need of a drink. And, best all, pinball machines! :-) If I'm in the neighborhood again, I would check it out again. read more

Went on a saturday night. We got there at about a 11:30, and at first there were no seats, but quickly some opened up that we vultured our way onto. Its a cool place, decent crowd. The bartenders are fun. But the price for beer was a little high to me. $2.50 for Schlitz in a can, $2.75 for Pabst on tap. Seems a little high for slumming beers. But fine no less. The bathrooms were seriously trashed. A broken lock on one stall and the other one covered in tp. That's my only negative. read more

I love this bar. Its a pretty low key neigboorhood bar. The people there are really friendly and you don't usually have to deal with massive amounts of people. You can get $2 cans of American. I have grown to love this good cheap beer. I don't know of anywhere else in Chicago you can get it but I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather go to have one. read more

i think that lemmings is your average neighborhood bar. the staff is really cool and their bar is warm and inviting. i can't explain how though - there's something about the ambiance that is so laid-back and homey. i always end up here more on the earlier side, like 8p, on weekend for some reason. if you're hungry, dont come here. for thirsty people only. if you have a pizza from next door, they welcome that. they only really have chips and popcorn. drinks are super cheap. i wouldn't say it's too divey, kinda like danny's. read more

Though I promised my Lemmings escort that I wouldn't give it the 2 stars that I felt it deserved, I never told him I wouldn't bash it in the actual content of my review... I was just so disappointed! I love the neighborhood and I can't think of a bad bar experience anywhere in the 'hood prior to my couple of hours at the Lemmings. The guy at the door wasn't the most pleasant, the aisles were crowded by the straight from the office crowd with oversize bags and their winter overcoats bumping into everyone who attempted to walk by, and the bartender obviously wasn't concerned with the tips that he would or wouldn't be receiving. Though I had prime positioning to place my drink order (with my credit card in hand and extended over the bar in front of me), the guy blatantly ignored me when there wasn't anyone else placing an order at the same time. He actually went up to the people on either side of me (who already had their drinks) and asked them if they needed anything else before finally sauntering over to me. And I'm so not intimidating! Anyhow, when he finally made it over, he was WAY too sarcastic. Now I have experienced the lady servers at Club Foot and this guy was WAY ruder than them... I asked if I could get a Red Bull/vodka and he just said "No." With a smile I asked, "Because you don't have Red Bull?" And he simply said, "correct" and then stared at me. I asked if they had any other kind of energy drink and his response was "cola." Okay, fine... If he had said it with a smile, I would have had an appreciation for his short, no frills responses. But the guy looked at me like I was a huge idiot that was wasting his time. Now that just sucks. Anyhow, rude service aside AND the fact that they didn't have my Red Bull, there wasn't really anything that redeemed this place. Seriously, the only really positive/fun thing about my Lemmings experience was that I was in really good company - with the person that I went with. Chill but not a dive. Good selection of beers, people not pretentious, tv's but not obnoxiously a sports bar. Went on a Tuesday night so can't speak to how it is on a weekend, but able to chat comfortably and enjoy a decent beer. parking's not great - but that's the area. but i was able to snag a free non-restricted parking on a nearby street. read more

The Bucktown equivalent of the Sheffield's model of beerpub. Which means it's dirtier, darker, more open space, no food and louder. My cousin worked here years ago, long before I was 21, and said the guys who started it used to work at Sheffield's and stole their chalkboard beer list idea. It's a great solid dive for a beer at off-peak times. Came on a Monday once and had the place to ourselves and great conversation with the bartender. A week or so ago my brother and I stumbled in after midnight on a Friday and while we could still get a seat, we couldn't hear ourselves talk over the music and the trashed wedding party guests. Super legit, in an I-can't-quite-explain-why-I-like-it sort of way. Kind of like Map Room without the beer selection, but way more fun to hang out at. Also, re: my beer comment, Lemming's beer selection is perfectly fine and changes frequently, but is not the largest you have ever seen. That's OK, there is no way you will get bored with it. Really friendly low-key staff, laid back atmosphere, drinks are well-priced, there's pool in the back and a pacman arcade, a range of board games, and they play great music and don't judge you when you do ridiculous dancing competitions in the back. Keep in mind that when you open a tab, it will automatically charge $50 on your card, which will get readjusted once you settle your bill, but it might take a few days for the correction to show up on your account. Cool bar, long-Chicago style which I love, pool, somewhat of an older crowd (not filled with post-college yuppies, etc.), off the beaten track on Damen, so more neighborhood people around. Really enjoy this place. One time a bartender was sarcastic and a little rude toward us (we are younger than the average customer) when we asked if there were any specials on said day, and that was a bit off-putting, but haven't had that guy since. :) read more

This is one of my favorite bars. It is so laid back. Wednesdays are my fave, the bartender plays awesome tunes. Fun R&B to old Rock n Roll. They have free pool until 9pm every night and all day Sundays. It is cozy and friendly, almost like an old man bar minus the old men. Lemmings is a great neighborhood bar. The layout is welcoming, and the decor is generally pub-style. I usually have a great time here! I will say when I went with a group of friends last night, they were literally playing some weird type of 70's porn. And it wasn't really innocent or humorous stuff- it was disturbing.
