We have been frequent customers to lemon grass and have always loved our experiences there. Until today when we entered the restaurant and were greeted with a "can I help you with something". Which is odd because we were obviously there to have dinner. Then once we were sat no one ever came to our table to offer water or anything like that. The hostess after awhile even went to tell the server that she had a table to which she replied "I am aware" but still never came to our table. Another couple was seated next to us and received service before anyone ever came over to us. My husband asked the hostess again if someone would serve us but at that point the server was rude to the hostess again so we left knowing we would not receive good service if we stayed. Spring rolls were decent ,sushi was very good ,soup was pretty ordinary ,we have tried the main course items of fried rice and basil with garlic and both ended up back in the plate ,there was no flavor at all and it's like mixing fired rice with blend stuff !I honestly think this is not an authentic Thai place at all,if you are in for sushi I would say yes to this place else I would pass it !The two stars are for ambience and appetizers ! read more

I've been here two or three times now and they always have good sushi. However, some of the rolls sound really good from the menu but don't have a lot of flavor. My other complaints are that the pricing seems odd (for example, rolls with similar ingredients can vary in price by $6) and it is often very noisy. read more

My husband and I eat here about once a week. It is undoubtedly the best sushi in our area. Nama , on the other hand, always disappoints- from bland taste to actually finding a bone in my sushi. But I have never been disappointed with the service or the food at Lemon Grass in Maryville. read more

Love this place! The thai dishes are good and so is the sushi. My favorites are the mango shrimp, spicy basil leaves, and green curry. Once, I got desert and had...well, I think it was mango rice or something...very tasty! My only complaint is the atmosphere...it is sooooo quiet! Sometimes they have this 'background music' which is mostly just birds chirping...anyways, if you're here with friends it feels like everyone can hear your whole conversation..and when i said it feels like they can, i mean they DEFINITELY can! haha! I have been to Lemon Grass quite a few times (as a native of the Maryville area). I have had the sushi each time and enjoyed it quite a bit! The service is pretty good and I've never had a problem being seated. The atmosphere is a little dressy and it's more of a place you'd take your girlfriend or wife to for an anniversary or something (not really a family eatery). It's a little pricey, but no more than any other high-end sushi place. read more

I moved to the Knoxville area 5 years ago. The one thing I missed was Café Ori in Bellevue WA. Well I found a restaurant that makes Panang Curry with the same flavor. Lemon Grass. But go there at the end of lunch when the crowd has cleared out. Otherwise, you will wait. read more

Just awful. I tried eating here three times and each time it was a miserable experience. The first time I ordered uni (sea urchin) sushi. It arrived not only frozen in the middle, but freezer burned. I sent it back and got ignored by the waiter for the rest of the hour I was there. The second time I asked specifically if there was bell pepper in the entree as I'm allergic to it. I was told that no, it's pepper-free. It came with so much bell pepper that it looked like a pile of bell pepper in sauce. The waitress got VERY nasty when I sent it back. I tried the Tom Kha Gai, and it was watery with hardly anything floating in the bowl. The third time, the beef entree was burned very badly. I sent that back and waited for it to be replaced for over a half hour. At that point, I left a couple bucks on the table for my iced tea and left. At one time, Lemongrass was one of our favorite places in the Maryville/Alcoa area. Recently, the quality of the food has declined significantly. During our most recent visit my husband was unable to eat his entrée at all. Beware of the establishment if you have any food allergies!! My husband ordered the Bento Box lunch special of the day. When his entrée came he quickly discovered it was loaded with cashews. We immediately alerted the server informing him that my husband has a severe nut allergy and could not eat the entrée portion. We were amazed that a Japanese style entrée would include cashews! The server's solution was to turn the box around so that it did not face him. We asked for something he could eat to replace the entrée which was the major portion of the meal. The server brought out a bowl of red curry sauce to eat over the white rice. This contained no vegies or meat, and was at best a mediocre replacement for an entrée which included chunks of chicken and vegetables. My entrée was the spicy basil shrimp which contained no visible basil and was not at all spicy. The only vegies were red and green pepper strips. Having ordered this in the past I was surprised at the difference. When our bill came, we were charged for the entire Bento Box meal my husband was unable to eat and an additional $2 for the bowl of red curry broth which included absolutely no meat or vegetables. We felt this was inappropriate, since the menu did not say that the "entrée of the day" included in the Bento Box meal could contain nuts and nut allergies are very serious and increasingly common. The server informed us that if he made any adjustment in our bill it would come out of his salary and he rang it up the way it was originally charged. Needless to say we will not be back!! read more

I can honestly say top five of all the sushi places I have been easily and I have eaten sushi for four decades in too many places to count. Maryville is very fortunate to have this little gem! This is a very nice place for Asian food and sushi. The servers are very attentive and give us a lot of attention. Neither of us are fans of sushi because we're hesitant to eat raw fish, but we've tried several cooked varieties on their menu. The food is consistently good and we're always treated well. read more

Good to find passable Thai here in East Tennessee. I had the grouper chef's special (at the recommendation of my very pleasant server), which was tasty but a little too sweet with pineapple juice. I would order it again if I lived here, but with one caveat/suggestion: put the sauce on the side. Almost gave it a 3 star! Food was delicious! However the grass was simply not as good in their flower beds as it was in the restaurant.

We ate there on our way back from Townsend wanting a nice light lunch of sushi. We were surprised by the interior when we walked in, it is much nicer than you would expect from the looks of the outside. Unfortunately that was not the only surprise... The sushi was a lot more expensive than you would expect, but we ordered some anyway assuming it would be high quality, and contain generous portions of fish. We also ordered an appetizer of pork dumplings and some green tea. This is when we started to notice the service being a tad slow. When the tea came out it tasted like it had cooking oil in it. We immediately sent it back and the waitress told us it was toasted green tea. Then after a long wait the dumplings came out. They were okay, definitely store bought and not made fresh. We then waited a good 15 minutes before being checked on again, our drinks were empty, and we had been there a total of 30 minutes so far, for sushi... Finally another 15 minutes the sushi comes out. We were very disappointed in the small quantity of fish for a $15 roll. The spicy tuna topping consisted mainly of planko crumbs and had to be taken off to make the role edible . The rolls were also very lacking in flavor and contained mostly rice... Not what you would expect for paying $15 a roll. My gf was so upset with the whole experience that she just went to the car. I waited another 10 minutes to get the check and another 5 for her to just come pick it up. Overall the service and food were the worst I've seen in town. I would recommend wasabi or makinos over this place 10x over again. Each will cost half of what this place does and will have you in and out in the half the time as well.
