When J&C moved out of this space a few years ago, I thought I'd die of a broken heart. Some of the best and cheapest Mexican around, but sadly few people knew about it (and I like my hidden secrets kept hidden, usually) and they went under. I promised to boycott whatever ended up replacing it. Let's go back a summer now, and I really was dying of a broken heart (*sniff*). Finding little solace in the bottle (or, well, not enough), I opted for that other time honored panacea, eating my sorrows away. And since I was too shattered to walk more than a half mile from my apartment, and since I really needed something hot and spice laden to help scorch out my grief, I turned to Lemon Thai, even though I vowed never to patronize a restaurant in the 215 space again. Fortuitous for me, fortuitous for Lemon Thai - I believe my steady patronage that summer singlehandedly kept them in business (they seemed teetering on the edge then, though they are doing well now), just as I believe that they kept me from losing my head. I think I ate here every day for a month straight, swooning over one of the counter girls, each time asking them to ratchet up the spice on the drunken noodles (very very good here), and to please, go full bore on the basil chicken. The dishes here are simple and tasty, nothing fancy. And sometimes really that's all you need. Perhaps my take on this place is clouded by sentimentalism, but if their cooking can save a person's life, they must be doing something right, no? read more

I went in for dinner and had an awesome meal. It was so good that I'm a little tempted to give 5 stars but will say this is more like 4.5 right now and I'll have to have another trip in to let that decide. I was craving some spicy noodles. I noticed they have "crazy noodles", which are my favorite. Some places call them "drunken noodles" but they are all the same pretty much. So I got that along with a Thai iced tea. The woman at the counter was very warm. I decided to eat inside since there were a few open tables. On the window in front of me, stuck a "people love us on yelp" sticker. I knew I was in good hands. When my food was ready, it was brought over with everything I needed, even chopsticks and an extra glass of water. It's not the place they wait on you at your table but it sure felt like. The noodles were great. Very plentiful on the meat, I chose chicken. There were lots of peppers, carrots, beans and basil. The veggies were super fresh. The sauce was just right. If you like spicy, you must try this dish. It was one of the best I've had. The Thai iced tea was fantastic. If you've never had one, its a must with any Thai meal. The creaminess and kick of it will cool you right down. Besides the food being great, the prices were even better. At dinnertime, I got a large plate of noodles for $7.95, then the iced tea was only $1.75. I am a true Thai food fanatic. I always like to try new places, this one was top notch so far. This is some pretty bland and disappointing Thai food. Had the Pad See Ew and Pad Kee Mow. Both were really oily, no flavor, with overcooked veggies. Even the somewhat of an extensive menu didn't include some traditional Thai dishes like eggplant and tofu or some other noodle dishes. I had ordered mine to go and when I walked in I told the woman at the register and she smiled and nodded. I sat down and waited 25mins before I finally walked up and before I could ask about my food, she asked me if I was ready to order. My food had been ready the entire time I was sitting there and the woman thought I still had food to order. In this time, you can put on your helmet, jump on your bicycle, and glide down Spring Hill with a cold autumn wind at your back and piping hot Thai food in your future. . . . Oh, and Teen Vogue magazine. Stacks upon stacks of Teen Vogue magazine. "It will be another two minutes until my super amazing piping hot food is ready, you say? Highly recommend this place! The food is tasty and their menu has most anything in the thai department. When we have people over and they ask for food delivered this is our #1 recommendation for curry and any of their beef dishes. The prices are a couple dollars higher than I would expect, but they do serve a lot of food and I can generally spread it to two meals (if I can control myself and not gorge). Most of their meals are close to $10 but that works with their minimum credit card and minimum delivery amount. I see below that I am not the only person that has trouble with their delivery...they tend to make mistakes in that department, so I suggest checking the bag BEFORE you pay to work it out. read more

I've been ordering from Lemon Thai for quite some time. Since they seemed to be the only Asian food on this side of the river that river that A. delivered and B. weren't disgusting I was content but things are changing. Their prices seem to be on the rise which, yeah so is everything so there's that but the quality of their food seems to be suffering as well. I've completely given up on their pad Thai as the past few orders have been downright gross. Their scallion pancakes which have always been yummy are now arriving dripping with oil and squishy. :'( This all makes me sad. I am completely obsessed with Asian food but sometimes don't want to trek in to Chinatown and now it seems like I'm down the one solid option I had. So why three stars? Well, I tried the pineapple fried rice and it was pretty good. It almost redeemed the nearly liquid scallion pancakes, almost. Great Thai food at an affordable price. My partner and I order from this place on a regular basis and we've never been disappointed. They deliver really quickly too. It doesn't usually take more than 25-30 minutes for to get and our food. On the couple of occasions when we've been delivered the wrong thing, they've corrected the order quickly. My personal favorite: Garlic Tofu with Mixed Vegetables. This dish comes with a lot of pepper, so if you've got a low tolerance, make sure you ask them to go easy on the pepper. read more

Lemon Thai is fast and yummy - if you live in Somerville/Cambirgde - chances are you have eaten here. I LOVE their spicy noodle dishes, but settled for something a bit healthier the last time I ordered. It was still delish and I was very satisfied. This is my favorite Thai place in the whole Boston area. No contest. They have a big menu with lots of delicious veggie and meat options. I've had fantastic appetizers, soups, rice, and noodle dishes. The veggies in all the dishes are very fresh and not over-cooked. No matter what I try, I always go back to the Crazy Noodles with tofu. I would shove entire throngs of adorable schoolchildren out of the way for the Crazy Noodles with tofu. Seriously, those kids would go DOWN. We picked up food togo: Crispy Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Pad See Ew. His (the hub's) Pad thai was pretty good in quality and quantity. Lots and lots of noodles, yum! The chicken was perfectly fried-- crispy on the outside, but juicy on the inside. However, the pad see ew noodles were much wider than the normal flat noodles so it felt like there wasn't enough to enjoy and harder to eat. The flavor was A-Ok as well. The chicken? So overcooked. Definitely not willing to go again anytime soon. My favorite dish will always be pad sew ew at thai resturants, but I was probably reaching more for the pad thai. This place is the bomb. Go here for lunch and get a lunch special with soup and an appetizer and then thank me. Their curries are great, they have a huge menu, and they're really nice and friendly and understand your order on the phone. The place itself is cute enought to wait for takeout in but not to sit and eat. The scallion pancake with green curry sauce is the stuff of my dreams. Eating here as I write this. Prices: 8/10 - can't beat pad Thai for $7.95 these days. It's $10-11 downtown boston. Spring rolls: 2/10 - came out nice and hot but the skin-to-filling ratio is a little high for my taste. The filling itself is also a bit weak w just cabbage and carrots. I like glass noodles in mine. Also kind of bland and the sauce is just ok. Pad Thai: 9/10 - wow this is really good! My expectations were tempered considering the spring rolls but these noodles are spot on. Best thai food I have tried in Union Square - which is... also the only Thai food I've had in Union Square. The pad thai is pretty good, when you say spicy, they make it spicy. Which is a good thing, it's just not usually the way it happens - in my experience, they don't usually take you seriously on the "spicy issue." I have had wonton soup, brown rice and thai iced tea from here - all were good. The wait time for pick up is really quick usually. I've never had to wait when I walk to pick it up. It's a little odd to have to walk through all the seating to pick up orders, and the doors seem to have some vacuum seal thing it does with the wind - good times, I almost got stuck and had to toss all my weight and food against the doors to get out. read more

Lemon Thai, what happened? I ordered several dishes from them and had them delivered but they arrived luke warm, the noodles were soggy and the flavor just wasn't very good. Chicken Pad Thai- lots of soggy, overcooked noodles with almost no veg. Crispy Pad Thai- ditto Beef Udon- the noodles weren't overcooked but it was very spicy. Basil Fried Rice- just ok. not very tasty Fried Thai dumplings- tasty but dry! Mango fried rice- just ok. Mango sticky rice- just ok. As someone who is very uncomfortable ordering food on the phone, I was pleased to see that they offer online ordering. After submitting my order, they almost immediately called to confirm that it would be extra for the extra chicken I ordered-which I was appreciative of because I had not intended to order extra chicken. The food arrived in less than 45 minutes and was still quite hot. I ordered the country style chicken pad thai with crispy chicken, per recommendation by a friend. It was very good, though decently spicy. Plenty of peanuts, chicken wasn't soggy, and it was very flavorful. It's good food and they were really good to deal with. Again...online ordering. I love it. Lemon Thai I love thee, let me count the ways. I love Lemon Thai so much that when I was moving this summer, for a while I was afraid I would move beyond the range of its tastiness. Thankfully, I only ended up moving a block and a half away, so if anything I am not even closer to my delicious thai food. I have never ordered a dish here I have not enjoyed. I am a girl who despises bell peppers, and they are in a lot of dishes here. I have never had an issue asking for a dish without them or substituting something in their place. They will make nigh anything with fried tofu instead of meat, and are always more than happy to make a dish "extra spicy" when you ask-- though you may have to insist a few times. My all time favorite thing is to get tofu pad see you and ask for it extra hot. I've had great experiences with all their soups, and really enjoyed their class pad thai as well, though it was a teensy bit gummy. Called for pickup. They have good lunch specials M-F where you can add tom yum soup and small appetizer for an extra dollar. We got the country pad thai with crispy chicken, and the green curry tofu lunch special with the soup and curry puffs. Also added on the tom kha soup and thai iced tea. Everything was pretty tasty, especially the main dishes and the curry puffs. The soups were okay. Just wished they delivered to Malden, but would definitely get it for lunch again! read more

Sitting around working at home with a friend, we were thinking of nearby places to grab some take out lunch from. My first instinct was to order from the adjacent Yummy Hut, based mostly on their name. However, the abysmal reviews there drove me to order from Lemon Thai next door -- a very good decision, it turns out. I had the hot beef basil lunch special with golden triangles and tom yum soup - for eight bucks and only fifteen minutes prep time! Tasty stuff. My roommate had the pad thai - always a good litmus test - and reported good things. Unfortunately the highly recommended Thai Pancakes and Scallion Pancakes aren't included in the super lunch special deal, but I will definitely be back to try them for dinner! Bonus points: the waving cat doll that sits on the front counter. Why is it waving at me while I wait for take-out? I like to think it's because it loves me. read more

Lemon Thai doesn't look that exciting from the outside, but the food is some of the tastiest thai I've had. It was hard to break away from our Sugar and Spice addiction and actually try this place, but I'm so glad we did! I've tried both the Red and Yellow curries and found them to not only be delicious, but very different from each other...and that's not always the case. The pad thai is also really great-- it's the perfect sweet-savory balance, very impressive. Pretty cheap too! 2 entrees and the bangkok golden appetizer (irresistible crab rangoon with sweet sauce) comes to about $20. The menu is huge-- and the cashier told me that they were expanding it soon, adding 10 more items. To top it all off, the service is really friendly and the delivery is always quicker than they say it's going to be. I passed by this place a few times over the past week, and I thought it was really random and probably just a cheap knock-off of Thai food. So so wrong!! I really should apologize for judging this place for its location and cheap-looking neighbors, but thanks to Yelp, I have decided to give this random little place a chance. Ordered the Thai pancake (with chives, fried) and tom kha soup, and iced coffee first. The two "pancakes" were more like small flat dumplings of rice flour, stuffed with chives. Tasted good especially with the sauce. The BF thought it was too soft, but I thought it was good as is. Tom kha soup was kinda sweet in a good way--relatively thick, slightly sweet and not too salty (like most places). Iced coffee tasted like this canned version that you can find in asian markets. It was still good, but not as terrific as I hoped. For the mains, we ordered the country pad thai, and ... get this, chicken avocado (red) curry. The former was fanTASTic and was the best pad thai I've had in years (and I'm a cynic about pad thais!)--the tiny fried puffs of tofu and the tiny dried shrimp totally make the dish. The latter main dish, however, sounded like a good idea but didn't work. Not sure if it was the avocado itself, but it didn't taste right and the texture doesn't work. We ended up eating everything else in the curry. Still ! They seem to execute traditional dishes really well which is a big big plus in my book. Ordered take out here for the first time after driving by it several times. Seemed promising when I walked in when I saw some older women on the side prepping veggies and stuff, smelled legit. Ordered the beef salad, fried chicken pad Thai, and the udon sunken noodle (supposed to be with pork but they messed up and gave us chicken). The pad Thai was pretty singular in flavor. It was just sweet. But there were plenty of peanuts which I appreciated. The drunken udon noodles were interesting but nothing special. And the beef salad was disappointing, not something I'd order again. I would prob give this place another try but don't have high expectations. read more

Unassuming exterior with fair Thai cuisine. Realistically, I would give the food a 3.5, not quite a 4, but because I can walk to it, the convenience factor bumps the establishment up half a star. So far, I have tried the pad thai, crazy noodles, and pad see ew. As others have mentioned, the quality of your dish may differ depending on the flow of business and who is making the food. Nothing I've ordered has been inedible, but the consistency factor is lacking a little. Upon my last visit, I noticed that neighboring Yummy Hut has the same gold, waving cat ornament in their store as Lemon Thai. Apparently this is referred to as a "lucky beckoning cat". Supposedly, it brings wealth and prosperity to the owner. If you ever go to the store to pick up your food, you will see the waving kitty I am referring to. It makes me happy. read more

I have to give lemon thai five stars for their yellow curry alone, and because this is exactly what anyone looking for a casual thai restaurant would want. I am constantly on the lookout for delicious thai food, and since leaving allston I didn't think I'd find somewhere I liked as much as S&I to go, but alas, lemon thai exists! I always end up getting yellow curry and brown rice, but I think I've had basil chicken here, too. The veggies are always super fresh and everything is obviously made to order. I also like their specials (which are a bit more expensive than everything else). Standard reliable Thai delivery. I have no complaints. Everything comes just as I asked for, hot, and tasty. The delivery guy gets here when they say he will, and they even tell you the total of the bill before you hang up. The veggies are fresh and everything is cooked properly. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Be because the food is tasty but need a little more to be fantastic. It's the kind of Thai delivery that I can put the rest in the fridge without waging a personal battle to finish the entire dish. $8.50 Pad Thai with Duck that was surprisingly delicious! Perfect Pad Thai for the non-daring foodie like myself. I've had Pad Thai with duck at other places and usually you get some fatty skin and like two pieces of unflavored meat but Lemon Thai doesn't do that. Delivery was really fast (but $2 charge so I just go pick it up as parking isn't usually a problem). Doesn't open until 3pm on Weekends is the only negative. Just ate there today before my flight to Minnesota. The food is alright, taste very basic, nothing special. If you are in for an okay ride for food that is toned down authentic try here. They do not offer papaya salad which was a huge turn off. They also have a very small menu. read more

I had the country style pad thai which was supposed to come w/ fried tofu and shrimp instead it had ckn in it and only 2 shrimp and the noodle were way over cooked! The scallion pancake was really oily and became soft which was a bit gross. The bf had the crispy ckn pad thai and again the noodle were over cook and the ckn over fried. Really disappointing. I've only just discovered this place in spite of living around the corner all year. I made the mistake of trying the Chinese and Italian places next door first (blech!) and was put off from the neighborhood. I missed out all year, but it was probably good for my belly and wallet. Now that I'm studying for finals, I can't stay away. Their pad thai is delicious and the appetizers, though pricey, come with large servings.
