I liked Lemonjellos. It was in the perfect location right across the street from our hotel. You can definitely tell this is a college coffee house with students on their laptops and the vibe was very collegesque. It's a little small, but charming inside. There was a little bit of a wait when I walked in, but it wasn't too bad. I liked their mood latte selection. They have different flavors for what mood you want to feel or are feeling. I went with the flavor I was wanting more than the feeling. The comfort mood latte was delicious. It really was comforting with warm flavors. The coffee itself was great. It was robust and strong. It was the perfect beverage to have before starting your day in downtown Holland. I ordered the pumpkin, chocolate chip muffin as well. That wasn't quite as good. It was underdone and really gummy. I wasn't a huge fan. The flavor itself was good and it was sweet, but the texture was off-putting. It needed like 4 or 5 more minutes in the oven. Overall, this place is a hit. Clean coffee shop. My latte was pretty good, and my son's chai was so-so (he said it started out good and then got too sweet). The reason for the three stars is that the service was flat and unfriendly. Sometimes you just get the feeling that someone is annoyed with you and you don't know why -- that was the vibe. I ordered two drinks for $10, and I thought maybe a please when given my total or a thank you when I paid it would be in order. Apparently not. When my drink came up, I said "thanks" - got a stare from the guy who apparently left his personality in his hemp backpack - and he said nothing in return. If you like your coffee with a dash of disdain and a helping of brooding angst, this is the place for you. Otherwise, I recommend one of the other coffee shops nearby. read more

Usually I don't write reviews, but I feel like I had to for this place. I had really high hopes for it, I've heard great things and it seems that they are enjoyed on here. Unfortunately for me and my friend it wasn't the case. We went two days in a row, wanting to try it out and both were disappointing. The girl at the register seemed super impatient and wasn't super friendly towards us. I've worked in a coffee shop atmosphere before so I understand a rush and the stress that comes with it but it wasn't that busy and we didn't even receive any greeting. The coffee itself tasted very watered down and I couldn't taste the flavoring in my drinks either days I came. Something also in the coffees made me feel very sick both days I came. The second day it was busy and a different guy greeted us. He was friendly but the girl from the first day was handing drinks out and seemed very annoyed and impatient. Also got a muffin, and it tasted as if too much flour was mixed in or something wasn't added correctly. I may go back to try the Italian sodas, but the customer service and the drinks I had were very disappointing. read more

I'll start by saying my drink was just okay. Nothing magic but definitely decent. My two friends said their drinks didn't taste like whatever fruit they were supposed to be but were okay just to have something sweet/cold on a warm day. I would have been okay going back to Lemonjello on another day if it wasn't for the service. They called the wrong name when my drink was ready. It sat there for a bit so I figured out it was actually mine. I tried to confirm and the barista blew me off. Tried again more firmly and he gave me an attitude. It was busy but *not* crazy level busy (I am comfortable making that judgment since working in a similar setting was what put me through college), there's no excuse for the crummy service. read more

This was our first visit and it was just what we were looking for - a local place that isn't touristy. It was late in the day so there wasn't a wide selection of baked goods, but we tried a couple gluten free cookies which were yummy, and the lentil chickpea soup was delicious. The interior is easy to hang out in and welcoming for a long stay but won't win any interior decorating awards. There's nothing spectacular about Lemonjello's. I don't get the hype. I guess it's convenient for college kids since it's within walking distance of campus, but the whole set-up is awkward and seems disorganized. It's over-priced and under-whelming. I see no reason to go back. read more

I absolutely loved this place. Cute and very welcoming. Not a ton of options but so many that I wanted to try that I wish it wasn't two hours from me or I would go back more often. CUTEST COFFEE SHOP IN HOLLAND! This place is always hopping whenever I go by! It's the local hot spot. I'd say it has the best coffee in Holland. It's a college favorite too as Hope College is right across the way. Stop in for some fun drinks and a casual yet awesome atmosphere. Trust me, it's worth the hype. The baristas are super nice and fun. The coffee was delicious. I ordered the buzzed latte, and it was lightly sweet and comfortably strong. They definitely use a quality espresso. I think it's Madcap. Actually, I liked Lemonjello even more than Madcap in Grand Rapids. On a Sunday afternoon it is quite busy, but turnover is quick enough to get a table or a seat at the bar. There are also lots of windows to let the sunshine come through. It was nice and warm inside, unlike other coffee shops which can be quite drafty. There was music playing off and on, but it was by no means loud. Tl;dr: skip Starbucks and Bigby. Go to Lemonjello. read more

I live in Singapore... EVERY time I go to Holland, MI, I make it a personal goal to get to lemonjello's every day. Why? A few reasons: #1. Their coffee is amazing. #2. They have RICE milk! You can actually get a rice milk latte!!! Thank goodness... no dairy, no soy. Thank you lemonjellos! #3. The amazing selection of gluten free, vegan, FRESH pastries! Are you serious? They are divine. No one has pulled them out of a freezer and defrosted them. They are not old and stale. They do not taste like cardboard. They are truly incredible. #4. Fairtrade, organic. Always a plus. #5. 1st. we had some "ancient" gift cards and their current system could not read their values. So, they allowed us to order our drinks and "comped" us for the value of our order. Excellent customer service!! 2nd. Our drinks were excellent!!! My Chai milkshake was absolutely delicious!! Mom's coffee drink was a delightful combination of caramel and vanilla. 3rd. We stumbled upon Lemonjello's during an impromptu visit to Holland and we were pleasantly surprised to find excellent coffee on this side of the state. Lemonjello's is a progressive coffeehouse that brews and sells fair trade coffee and uses quality ingredients. The double chocolate mood latte was so dark and luscious it was reminiscent of gourmet chocolate. No hershey chocolate syrup BS here. The bubble tea we had was also unique from the fact that they mix the tea in real fruit juice. Again no syrups with artificial flavorings like the "authentic" bubble teas... or hormone milk powder for that matter. My mango bubble tea was perfectly and lightly sweetened with al dente boba - a refreshing treat on this hot summer day. Lemonjello's is also a really well branded coffee house with a clear concept. Look around for the customized tables/tee shirts/merch... then check out their adorable, well designed website on their free wifi... and all of a sudden it feels like I'm back in business school all over again reading HBS case studies. I can only dream of owning a coffeeshop like Lemonjello's some day. read more

When I'm in town, this is my choice of cafes. The regular drip is great, everything is fair-trade, and they have pour-over as well. Good baked goods, fast wifi. The place is full of chattering teens and college kids is my only complaint, but I guess I can't blame them... probably where I would have gone if this place existed when I was that age. I've been to a bunch of coffee shops and cafes and I really like this place a lot. The menu items are quite clear and anything with a funky name has an explanation. The pastries are right up front and are quite large. I never order any pastries but I was actually close after seeing their large brownie with sprinkles. They actually had 2 iced coffee options. One is a cold brew while the other was an aeropress that was exactly measured with regards to hot water, coffee, and ice. It was an Ethiopian coffee that started citrusy and later had strawberry notes. The place is located right on a corner so there's outdoor seating and ample street parking. Inside there's 2 bathrooms with local artwork on the walls. There's also a set up for local music. There are small and large tables and bar stools along one wall. There are plenty of outlets so if you need to plug in with your laptop, you can stay a while. They sold coffee equipment and merchandise with their logo including handmade mugs. The prices are very fair and they give detailed information on their coffees as well as type of pour. The staff were very friendly and welcomed questions on technique. Overall, a place to get great Madcap and Halfwit roasted coffee. read more

Who would have guessed that one of my favorite coffee shops would be in Holland, Michigan? Certainly not me. While in Michigan for a dance conference, I came to be a huge fan of Lemonjello's. Thank you staff at Lemonjello's for introducing me to the wonderful latte combination that is honey and vanilla :] That is my absolute favorite latte combination at the moment. Buzzed with soy milk is the latte to try. Though, Mellow is also good. I also love that it's free to trade out to soy milk. I've always thought it was ridiculous how coffee shops have an up-charge for soy - what if you're lactose intolerant? You're going to penalize that person because of something they can't control. That's terrible. Anyway, kudos to Lemonjello's for recognizing the plight of lactose intolerant people. The pastries are also delicious - I had the most amazing bran muffin. Free wifi is another plus. Clean bathrooms, plus. Friendly staff, plus. And just a nice and chill environment. Also, love love love the water dispenser for refilling water bottles. I mean, what more can you say about Lemonjello's Coffee? While it certainly serves many college students being so close to Hope College, it really caters to the entire city (city officials/ businesses often have meetings there). The coffee (from Madcap) is excellent, the service is top-notch, and their commitment to reducing waste is nothing short of impressive (they're a zero waist cafe). They have an incredible baked goods section featuring vegan and gluten free items that are so incredibly delicious you might wonder if you didn't get the wrong thing. If I had a magic wand, or three wishes from a genie I might just have to use one on duplicating a Lemonjello's to appear on the east side of the state... preferably right in my neighborhood. What an awesome coffee shop! We didn't anything out of the norm, just two Americanos (1 hot, 1 iced). They were both standard, I thought better than Starbucks but not as good as Bigsby (my fave). The best item we had was the triple berry muffin. It was like a smorgasbord of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries mixed with a smooth, not too sweet and slightly cinnamon-y bran muffin melting into my mouth. The best muffin I've EVER had. What I really loved about this place was their forward thinking -- they have a no waste goal and iPad's at the check out. Many local flyers and events were posted, it was jam packed on a Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Nice patio to sit and enjoy your coffee on while taking in some of the sights and sounds of downtown Holland. There are many great coffee places to go to in Holland but by far and away my favorite is Lemonjellos. The people who work here are welcoming to everyone from coffee enthusiasts to newbies and are more than happy to explain their menu if you can't make up your mind. There is plenty of space to sit on big group tables as well as more intimate two person tables and the decor is local art. My favorite thing about Lemonjellos is how intentional they are with fair trade ingredients and reducing their green thumb. If you're not sure what to order... Hilarious coffee shop. Stopped on our way to Traverse City. Had a skim milk mocha that was called "Indecisive" LMAO! All of their specialty coffee names were fun. Very green coffee house and it was busy enough in that it was a typical Sunday am but not so busy you couldn't find a seat. One specialty coffee one bold black and a muffin to split - $10.25. Excellent little coffee shop in cute little Holland, MI! The inside gives a little modern vibe and the service was very friendly ESPECIALLY during Tulip Time. The place was extremely crowded but the servers kept their calm and pumped out orders with care to quality. I ordered a macchiato that was perfectly extracted, and I loved that they paired it with sparkling water.. the way it should be served! Where the hipsters go for coffee in Holland, MI. Good coffee and good baked breakfast stuff (I had a couple of chocolate chip scones that were good). Fun, funky, and pretty quick service. Right off 7th street, the main shopping drag of Holland. One of the servers said "Auughh" when my wife and I ordered so I said "he ordered an iced coffee, curse you!" or some such and she laughed and assured me it wasn't us she was bemoaning. Good natured folks. One of the patrons outside was also kind enough to direct us to the farmer's market down the street, which was excellent--awesome corn on the cob, radishes, some flowers for the in-laws, and lots of delicious stuff we couldn't buy because we were on vacation. So basically a cool hipster coffee shop that's light on attitude and big on funky and fun. There's a small college nearby (Hope College) and I think that's where most of the clientele is coming from. A good sized patio, and not too many laptop table hogs. read more

A friendly coffe shop with clean bathrooms. They are very into recycling and being environmentally friendly but they have the water running like crazy in their bathrooms.
