I stopped into Lenny's on a whim. A couple weeks before I had a fantastic Philly cheesesteak with peppers and onions that was meaty and huge... with an equally huge price and a location quite a ways from me. But I was jonezing for another and thought Lenny's might satisfy. This location was quite dead and was obviously a lull time. The kid behind the counter looked at me oddly. I guess people dining alone tend to take their sandwich to go eat in their cars. I sat even in this slightly uncomfortable environment. The sandwich was obviously freshly made and hot. The bread was fresh. It only had onions. I kind of wished it had mushrooms or peppers too, but only if they would be perfectly cooked. I always applaud leaving off ingredients if a restaurant isn't confident of getting the cook right. To be frank it hit the spot because I wanted a Philly cheesesteak. If you're alone and need a meal it isn't half bad. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Oh I did totally love the jalapeño chips. It spiced up the meal just enough. read more

Visited on a weekday afternoon to give this place a try since I've been coming across it recently. It was a slow afternoon, I ordered the 7 1/2 in Deluxe Club Sub includes Lenny's way with Roast Beef, Turkey and Bacon all inside of multi grain bread made for a great dinner option. I've been away from philly for 3 years and I finally found a place which does Philly Cheesesteak true to form in San Antonio. Gino's is OK but the cut on the meat is wrong and the bread is weird. Close your eyes here and you might think you're biting into an amoroso roll from Philly. Can't wait to try the buffalo chicken cheesesteak. I just recently moved to an office near this shop so I decided to try it. I ordered a meatball sub for lunch yesterday and it was NOT very good. I decided to give it another shot since it's so close to my office. This sub was even worse. The meatballs had no taste, the bread seemed uncooked, and it stuck to the wrapper so I had to pick off pieces of the paper wrapper off my already torn apart sandwich. This was by far the worst sub I have ever eaten in my life. I got a turkey bacon avocado sub and the bacon was gross and tasted old. The avocado was actually guacamole that tasted like it soured and the relish that came with it was over powering. The whole sandwich was soggy from how much relish was put in it and it tasted disgusting. read more

Worst sandwich I've ever had. Bland, tasteless and soggy. I eat a lot of veggie sandwiches, so hard to believe I could have one with basically the same ingredients taste bad. Just the other day, my wife and I were really craving a good sandwich and I did not feel like cooking. I got out of work late and we decided to hit-up Lenny's Sub Shop. I had been really craving a good steak & cheese sub for quite some time and saw that they had one on their menu. That sealed the deal for me and that is what I ordered. As with all of my reviews, I will run-down all of the traditional categories and rate Lenny's accordingly. Food: In a world filled with so many sub options, I have come to realize that 9 times out of 10, I make a much better sub than most places ever could. Yes, that is aimed at Subway, Schlotzky's, and other like establishments. In fact, I can't figure out how/why these places are still around--they are terrible! Anyway, I digress. Like I was saying, there are many different sub options available, but Lenny's sub shop makes a very good sub. As mentioned above, I got the steak and cheese. For a steak and cheese sandwich, not from the North Eastern part of the U.S., it was very good. The steak was moist and well-seasoned. The sandwich was also topped with some delicious, fresh toppings like peppers, lettuce, and tomato. The cheese was of good quality and it melted really well creating that delicious ooey-gooey amalgamation of meat, cheese, and toppings. This was all held between a fresh, soft, great-tasting roll. End result, a solid place to get a good sandwich! Now, I like to rate establishments based upon their competition. Subway and Schlotzky's (and the like) all vary between 1 and two stars. Jason's deli seems to be a solid 3 stars all around--not great, but not bad. Lenny's is a step above this. Food: 4 / 5 Service: We came into Lenny's about 30 minutes before closing. You know, that time of the night where those in the Service Industry begin shutting-down for the night. The time of day when associates begin letting-go of their polite facade and begin returning to their 'normal self'. That said, the people at Lenny's were all very pleasant. I have no problems with their service at all. They took my order with a smile, were very friendly, were accommodating because we had my infant daughter with us, and paid a good deal of attention to us despite not being a 'wait-staff' type restaurant. Great job guys. Service: 4 / 5 Atmosphere: It's your typical quick-service type establishment; but we really like how clean the place was. Now this could have been as a result of them closing soon so the evening associates started their nightly-closing-routine; or maybe they are always that clean. Either way, we were impressed. When another family left, they immediately bussed the table and wiped it down with spray and a cloth. The restaurant was comfortable, inviting, and clean; but there was nothing of particular unique-ness to set it apart and elevate it. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 Price: The price was well in-line with other such establishments. You are getting a good quality product for a good price. I had no problem with the price and thought it was fair. Price: 4 / 5 Overall / Final Impressions: Like I said above, there are a lot of options in this city for getting a sub. This place is definitely one of the premiere locations for it and I would definitely recommend stopping by and sampling their menu. Lenny's subs are great with fresh carved meat and cheese when you order. The chips are excellent and they have quite a variety (I love Salt and Vinegar). I know not all sub shops have toaster ovens and I think we've gotten a tiny bit spoiled (we now prefer toasted subs)... Although Lenny's has "hot" subs, they are microwaved and not toasted- otherwise I would've given 5 stars. I had been to Lenny's three or four times before today, but the consistency and freshness of these subs drove me to post some feedback. The philly cheesesteak was the primary target for lunch. I had been hankerin' for a philly recently (and didn't feel like making one at home), but was reluctant to try another sandwich shop disappointment with reheated steak meat in a bag. Since I had heard they make a decent one, the chance was taken. One was ordered with cheese and onions only so I could get a good baseline. As I had a groupon, I was also able to get one of their classic cold subs, the club. One large combo was added, and selected a soda pop and a bag of their Lenny's-branded Rippled Sour Cream and Cheddar chips. As the friendly sub craftsman asked what I wanted on the club, I saw a kitchen off to the side of the front area. And what piqued my interest? A flattop griddle where cooks were sizzling up hot sandwich meats - hooray, no microwaved mincemeat! I also noticed a pile of still steaming bacon piled high, fresh off the heat, ready to be added to my club. My hunger antennae twitched. The cheesesteak was still very warm even after a 20 minute trip back home, and it was definitely not a letdown. The bread as expected was soft, but it wasn't mushy and the well seasoned thin and slightly crispy steak with the melted provolone perfectly hit the spot. The club was also on point after a several hour fridge visit. I ordered it without dressing so it wouldn't get soggy, but had them add the Lenny's hot pepper relish... can't miss out on that! It's super flavorful with only a bit of heat. Add a schmear of mayo, and once again we have another winning sammie. One item of note were the Lenny's Rippled Sour Cream and Cheddar chips... they were awesome! I love the Ruffle's flavored variety, but these were much better, more dusted with that orange magic powder. Overall, a great sandwich at a solid place with really friendly people and quick turnaround of orders. I suppose I wouldn't give Lenny's 5 stars only because of the lack of variety; I understand this is part of their business model since they can keep their prices very low with a smaller, fresher, ingredient list. But wouldn't it be nice if they had a seasonal selection... do they? I'm going back tomorrow! read more

Had my first Lenny's sub this past weekend thanks to a Groupon purchase. The staff was really nice and friendly, and they even came around to check on us a couple times, even though Lenny's is an order and pick-up at the counter type of place. We ordered the Chicken Philly and the Hot Italian. Both were really good. The bread is so soft! Definitely try the hot relish, it took the Hot Italian up a notch! The cookies are really yummy too. It's hard to compete in the sandwich market, and as a loyal Potbelly and Jimmy John's girl I'm a tough one to crack, but I'd put Lenny's in third place! read more

Lenny's is a decent sub shop with a wide selection of subs, hot and cold, and in a variety of sizes. The sizes range from a 5in on a Kaiser (but mine wasn't on a Kaiser, hmm), a 7.5in and a 15in. What I like about Lenny's is that they actually cook the steak on your Philly steak sandwich. It's not just microwaved garbage. You can double the meat for only a buck! The spice Italian is also a great sandwich. You can get it hot or cold. They have a large selection of Lenny's brand potato chips in various varieties such as Kettle, baked, and rigged. They also have some pretty decent cookies if you're looking for something sweet. The have all the usual toppings for your sandwiches but seem to lack the variety of cheeses you can get at Subway. Overall, a decent sub but nothing so great I'd drive across town for. read more

I came into Lenny's today because I usually grab a sandwich, but didn't want to go too far down the road from where I work. I ordered the Hot Italian on Multi-grain with added banana peppers to-go because it looked like something they'd put a lot of effort into. What I opened when I got back to work 5 minutes later was a sloppy sandwich with huge chunks of green/banana peppers and onions falling out of the sandwich. I love a hearty sandwich -- but it was bad. Bad to the point where one bite after another resembled a grilled pepper sandwich instead of them complementing the egocentric salami and cheese. The worst part: one side of the bread was soggy. Soggy to the point of looking undercooked and not being able to salvage the partly melted provolone on it made it even worse.
