    "Jerk and mac"
    Ashley H.

I would normally be skeptical of a pizza restaurant serving Jamaican dishes, but this one is pretty damn close to Flatbush, so I figured there was a good chance we might be safe in our pick of jerk chicken, escovitch fish and pineapple Jamaican soda. Fingers crossed. I should've gone with my gut, because my gut is now unsettled--and we know I knew better. See attached picture for what they referred to as "Jerk and Mac." Before I go further, I should preface that I know a bit about Jamaican and Caribbean food, and would pay three times the price for Peppa's to deliver to my house (they won't). I get that jerk is supposed to be smoked and/or grilled and even charred in spots--but certainly not turned into full-on carbon chunks. What you'll find in the picture is what amounts to "chicken as charcoal" on top of overcooked penne dressed with a little bit of cheese. All of it was covered in bitter chicken charcoal dust. Completely inedible, even for my goatlike child who will eat just about anything. The "escovitch fish" was essentially a whole-fried small whitefish on top of the same so-called mac & cheese, with some rice and peas that were OK enough (probably the best thing we had but that's not saying much). What's sad is that when I placed this order, I was called back and informed that they didn't have any ready, and that it would be an hour before they could get it to me. I was fine with waiting that hour for what I paid for. What I got after an hour was what you see in the picture. It's like they threw the bird into fire and left it there for the whole hour. I can't believe anyone would let THAT walk out of their kitchen. Oh, and I got Fanta, not Jamaican soda, and no call to ask if I'd like something different. Not the biggest deal, but insult to injury at this point. Leaving an extra star for their super nice delivery guy.

Thanks for just dropping menus on the ground in front of the door for other people to clean up.

This place is always packed. It's practically a given that you'll see a line outside, people waiting patiently for a table. Their pizzas come in personal, medium, and large, which I love--there's a size for whatever mood you're in, whether you're sharing or just craving your own. The atmosphere is busy and noisy in that classic, charming way. Staff move fast, weaving through tables with hot pies and big energy. I've tried the pasta once with a friend, but honestly, when I come here, I'm here for the pizza. And the pizza really is the star: great crust, tangy sauce, and that generous layer of fresh mozzarella that makes their Margherita--my go‑to--so good every single time. In a neighborhood saturated with pizzerias, Juliana's still stands out. If you appreciate excellent pizza, you have to give this place a try. It's just good stuff.

Worth the hype! Absolutely insane calzone... That was our must order!!!…read more The pizza is also incredible - you have to try. We had a pizza + a calzone and for 2-3 people this is enough. Cash only, BYOB (with rules depending on how many people), and a time limit on the table. Know what you want when you sit down. Menu is easy, pizza, calzones, sometimes pasta. Simple. Is it worth waiting in line for - maybe - if you have 2-3 hours free and nothing else to do and it's a nice day, sure. But honestly can't say I am running back to do it again. Waiting in line to get added to a waitlist that still doesn't always guarantee you will sit down to eat at the requested time - we were seated 40 mins after checking in (unusually long, never had more then 20 mins or so in past visits) but still a strange system, keeps the spot exclusive I'd guess. Have visited several times and always have had a good meal and the prices are very fair. Seating is not super comfortable and they pack you in for real, the restaurant is also unnecessarily dark and loud - But not in a bad way? I can't explain it but the very delicious pizza makes up for the weird ambiance and all the rules... definitely something to experience atleast once.

I've eaten here, come to the Bushwick Block Party to see Action Bronson perform, and spent enough time around Tiki Disco to associate the place with a particularly inventive, free-spirited period in the neighborhood. The dining area still has that wonderfully idiosyncratic character: exposed beams, communal tables, mismatched details, and an open kitchen turning out genuinely excellent pizza. What impresses me most is how naturally Roberta's became more than a restaurant. Food, music, parties, outdoor spaces, and an extraordinary mix of people all seemed to converge here, giving the place a cultural gravity that could never have been designed by committee. It remains one of those places that instantly takes me back to my bachelor years and an especially fun chapter of my time in the city, when Bushwick felt endlessly creative, and Roberta's seemed to sit comfortably at its center. Sending my highest recommendation!
