After they gave my order to someone else the individual with already dirty hands ( you could visibly see) the employees looked through the bag with no gloves on then went to what looked like the manager and said just give him his order. So therefore contaminating the food. With everything going on currently in the food market it blew my mind that would be an option. Sammies has ways been good....at least the one in Grayslake has been. 1st time to the RL location in years. Service was good but the food was not good. Beef was rubbery, whitish and tasteless. Luckily there was not much in it. The bread was doughy, thin and tasteless. The sandwich was small and expensive for what I got. Ordered a large order of mushrooms. The bag was maybe 1/3 full. Taste was ok. Don't think I'll come back to this location. I'll give the Grayslake location my business unless the changes are systemic. read more

I've been here quite a few times in the past and always had good experiences. Stopped in last night and called in an order for pick up. The cashiers were so kind and speedy. The food was delicious and fresh. I ordered a burger and I'm not usually a burger fan but this one was so flavorful and I ate it all up. As you walk in the building they ask you to sanitize which made me feel more safe & I enjoyed that. They have plexi glass all along the register area as well. Stopping in last night made me realize I don't stop in here often enough! The food was so good and the fries were soft and greasy (which I love). The prices were low which is also awesome. I love vienna beef hotdogs. I go to Sammies whenever I visit from CA. But I wish they would use hotdogs with natural casing. The texture is more enjoyable! I've done a lot of restaurant/food research in my career as a restauranteur and foodie and have learned that atleast 75% of the time a person dislikes food or prefers a different variety of a food it's because of the texture. Change your casing Sammies and it will improve your business! And the beef in the Italian is subpar. read more

I think I'm done with all Sammies locations now. Food was decent, I had a gyro meal and the onion was poorly chopped and overpowering. The fries were overdone. The real issues were sanitation issues. Staff not wearing masks, cooks not wearing masks properly (nose out). The girl prepping the tzatziki sauce had no gloves, and she's using one of the to-go containers to scoop the sauce into other to-go containers, getting it all over her hands. Absolutely disgusting. Disappointing that they can't even handle basic food safety issues let alone pandemic rules. If you value your health, I'd say eat elsewhere. read more

The Italian beef, burgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs are great, but I crave the fries most! They're crispier than most, fresh and never soggy! Next visit we're going to try the gyros. I can't frequent Sammie's as often as I would like, but every time I do, not disappointed! Gyros and their homemade tzatziki sauce, amazing, And my son is hard to please. My daughter had her usual chicken fajita pita and I had my angus burger, my daughter and I are pretty specific in our toppings so I figured something would be wrong with our order. Have to say, everything was good! So happy we make the trip to come here. (Btw; my son ordered a cheeseburger, made his a double, after he tried mine, after his gyros, teenage boys and appetites)! David at Sammies never disappoints! My kids and nephews wanted to go to McDonald's and I asked them take a look at the Sammie's menu. There was 7 of us.... They ordered 2 Philly cheesesteaks, 2 pizza puffs (my daughter ate both), 2 Half pound double cheeseburgers and we ordered one "extra meat" gyro. Sammies is one of the better fast food places in Lake County. I've eaten there many times (including today), and I've always been pleased with the food and service. Dave (the owner) is great, and often behind the counter taking orders. His work ethic reflects through his staff. The Italian Beef, gyros, hot dogs and burgers are all on par with some of the best fast food places in Chicagoland. The shakes and malts are awesome. I highly recommend the Dreamsicle shake. Another reviewer complained about the gyro meat not coming fresh off the spit. I'm not sure what he was talking about. I've been there many times and the gyro meat is always cut off the spit at the time of the order. Tip: Order the fries well-done; otherwise, they tend to be a bit greasy. read more

We stumble upon this place and it was so worth it. Their portion size for the price is amazing and their prices are no more, some of then less, than what you would pay at Burger King, taco bell or mcdonalds. The fries remind me of 5 guys minus the different seasoning but I loved them. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and my chicken breast was huge. It was cooked perfect and still so moist. My daughter ordered the gyro meal and talk about the amount of meat in that thing. Any other place would have made 2 out of it. My husband got the Sam Daddy burger(I think that's what it was called) and he loved it. Sorry folks that's all I got out of him. You can tell the place has been there a while with updates needed probably but that does not take away from the service or the food. We drive 4 hours to come to Round Lake to eat Sammies. The past Saturday we stayed in town just so we could eat there twice. My burger was fantastic as always. I love home made fries, which were crispy and fresh. For dinner I tried something different and went for a Chicago dog, piled high and all fresh. The owner was there doing spring cleaning and both times asked if the food was good and were we satisfied. Hubby said it was the best Gryo he ever had, the meat was piled hi where you have to eat some so you can bend the sandwich. I just wish they were closer so i don't have to leave before breakfast to get there for lunch. read more

I love going to greasy joints which serve up quick comfort foods and Sammie's had good prospects on the outside and even when ordering. I was there early, just a head of the lunch crowd figuring it would be quicker service and the food preparation wouldn't be rushed. I kept the order simple, fries, and a couple of dogs with chili cheese sauce, onions and mustard. If you read my other reviews you'll know that I don't mind greasy fries, but these where more grease than fries. The chili sauce was not that great either.... I'm thinking it was either overcooked or I was chowing down yesterdays batch. The onions also had that slimy, sitting out too long taste. A total let down to the point where I didn't even eat the last hotdog. I also agree with several of the other Yelpers in that the price is a bit high... especially when it all turned out to be a dud. read more

Let's not get me started with the poor and unsanitary food prep service for starters let's point out this the first time and last time the people didn't have any gloves on their hands and yet touching on everything and then made my meal. And when I made that known to the girl who took my order they got offended sorry to say but I'm not going to eat food that you touched with uncleaned bare hands in which they should've had gloves on in the first place. So they remade my meal. And that's when I noticed there was flies in the prep area now call me nuts if you want to but flies land on sh*t and dead animals and lay maggots and yes I have a huge issue with this. So I just asked for my money back and I'll never go back in that Sammie's and I urge anyone who reads this review please pay attention to what's going on in the prep area cause its your health and life that's on the line here and they don't care they are making a buck at your expense of your health. I used to enjoy going there for food. The other day I ordered gyros and other food to go. As I waited I went around the counter to watch the cook. I was appalled at his handling of all the food. He was handling raw meat and then touching everything in sight. Pita bread, the handles to reefer doors, utensils, etc. He believed that wiping his hands on a towel hanging from a handle was sufficient enough. Not once did he wash his hands or attempt to wear gloves. I then watched him drop the tongs while plating several gyros sandwiches and then pick it up. After dropping it again he left it and used his hands to pull the meat out of the pan and put it on the pita. Then he grabbed all the garnish with his hands too. He then reached into the reefer underneath and brought out two strips of steak, placed them on the grill, and then made a few hotdogs. This is just laziness on his part and the owners. Not returning with this new information. I count my blessings no one in my family got ill up to this point. I'll find somewhere else to go. I asked for a refund. read more

I've heard good things about Sammie's, so I was excited to try a gyro plate. We headed over for a carry-out dinner last night. The fried mushrooms were AMAZING - steaming hot and juicy. By contrast, the fries were a soppy, greasy mess. A huge pity because I am a big fry fan.. I could only eat a handful before the grease got to my gut and it was just gross. Portions were ample, though.. the onion tasted fresh, but the tomatoes were a bit mealy. The gyros were good, but the tzatziki sauce was horribly bland and gritty. There was no taste of cucumber. How disappointing. I'd be willing to try them again in the hopes they can redeem themselves on the fries and tzatziki sauce. read more

I have had the hot dogs, corn dogs, burgers, dinner salad; witch my fiancé and I love along with their chicken sandwich, Amazing and highly recommended! I would stay away from their pre oder & microwaveable tamales, and wings. I personally think if you have people who know how to make tamales, make a big batch and freeze them to sell fresh ones would be better then the pre made ones. The wings have a spicy, strange bread if with not that much meat to the wing/ drum along with the texture was off for me. This is the ONLY PLACE that knows how to make a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich (and get it right)! I mean perfect. Except I'm a pain in the ass, and they still make it to perfection. I like it real gooey. So I always get extra cheese, then I ask for extra grilled onions, and extra sweet peppers and gotta have mushrooms, for me that's actually two meals, and they know me, cuz I almost always get the same thing. Tho recently I tasted the other steak sandwich they have, and that one flipped my top too. So I might give that a whirl next time. I try not to eat out that often, but when I do, I try to eat as healthy as I can, it's all about the protein, and there meat is very tender, no crappy cheep stuff, the real deal here folks.
