I've lived in Ventura County for over a decade and have tried to give LensCrafters of Thousand Oaks a chance throughout the years, hoping for a better experience each time. My family and I always leave with such regret after investing a ridiculous amount time trying to spend our money there. This location makes it so hard to do so! I've listed some pros & cons to consider before visiting. Pros: 1. Store is clean and neat. 2. Huge selection of trendy eyeglass options. 3. Price are very competitive and typically always has some sort of a promotion on frames or lenses. Cons: 1. Associates are rude and make you feel like a burden for even visiting or asking questions. 2. Everything takes so long to do, waiting for eye exam, price quotes, and even purchasing glasses. Be prepared to invest 2+ hours to get what you need. If you have kids waiting with you....Forget about it! read more

They don't protect your personal information: I had a good experience getting an eye exam and frames, but I was really turned off when I called (from a blocked phone number) to make a follow-up appointment. I told the person my name, and instead of taking any steps to verify my identity, she proceeded to read off my birth date and phone number and asked me if that was me! After I claimed to be myself, she "verified" my address in the same way! Are you kidding me?!? With that information a person can find out EVERYTHING about you and then use that to impersonate you, then wreck you. Birth date is used everywhere as a key identifier. At the eye exam cashier, they sit patients next to each other with no divider above shoulder-level (while sitting down) such that each patient can easily hear the other! I got All the personal information from the patient next to me such as phone number, address, email, etc... I wasn't even trying--I couldn't avoid it! Scammers just LOVE to find weak people and vulnerable processes like these to exploit and it looks like I just stumbled across a gold mine. In this day and age you have to do a lot better to protect people's information, not just give it away for free. read more

I read the reviews but thought I would give them a chance and I'm so glad I did. The moment we walked through the door we were greeted by a friendly woman and given a tray. The covid clean protocol was great and my daughter tried on many frames! When we were ready to purchase, Amruta, helped us immediately and efficiently. Not only did we get the glasses within an hour (she has a common prescription) but we also got 50% off frames and lenses with a student discount. Before I arrived, I called them asking if they took Vision Service Plan. They said they did. I looked for a frame that fit within my coverage. I knew my progressive lens would be covered as well, so I figured I would have to pay the most $200 out of pocket. When I asked them for the out the door price on the glasses I was told $750.00. I was totally shocked. I asked them again if this was with my insurance and they said yes. When I looked at the information they plugged into the computer they had my benefits all wrong. When I pointed this out to the girl she said she didn't know anything. I called Vision Service Plan when I got home. Lens Crafters, in fact, didn't take Vision Service Plan. Their price was based on my out-of-network benefits. Very sneaky. Wish they would have been honest. read more

Called ahead to see if they adjust glasses even if they weren't purchased there. They said they do and that they don't charge. When I showed up whoever helped me proceeded to question why I purchase from another company and that it's wrong of the company to expect other stores to adjust the glasses. Horrible customer service and just plain rude. I had the unfortunate opportunity of dealing with Holly yesterday! I called the store on Tuesday, December 3rd and explained to the gentleman who answered the phone that I am a current customer and that I don't have any contacts left for my left eye which has a different prescription than my right eye. I have two boxes of contacts left for my right eye but none for my left and was wondering if they could give me 1 or 2 sample contacts to hold me over to the 1st of the year and come the first weekend of January I'll be ordering more once our eye insurance resets for 2025. He was very friendly and happy to help me and said just come in and there will be two contacts waiting for you behind the counter with your name on them. I said, thank you so much and I'll be there Wednesday to grab them. I went into the office yesterday, the 4th, and Holly greeted me and looked puzzled when I said there are two contacts waiting for me behind the counter and gave her my name (as if I was lying to her). She then looked me up in their system and said your prescription is expired so we cannot give you any sample contacts. I explained to her, that the gentleman on the phone also looked me up and didn't bother to use that against me, he was simply being a good person and helping out a current customer who was in a bind. For the record, I purchased all my contacts from them in January of this year. She was so rude and said, we can't help you. She didn't bother to look for the contacts he left for me or anything, her mind was made up. So, I tried to speak with a different employee who ended up going to speak with her and then she convinced him to lie to me (don't feel like going into that). So, I left and said my wife and I will never come back here ever again! Once I got home and settled down from a super frustrating experience, I called a local competitor and they were happy to provide me with two test contacts to hold me over and were happy to gain two new customers come the 1st of the year! I went and picked them up yesterday afternoon. Holly, I hope you feel good about your decision (you won yesterday) but you cost your company two good customers that would have been repeat customers for many years to come! read more

Initial customer service was unacceptable, I walked in, started looking around and no one asked if I needed help for about 10 minutes or so. It wasn't until I started trying on the frames when a sales rep came over and flat out asked me what I was doing, she was just just downright rude so I asked for someone else to help me in which she took offense to immediately. Second sales rep was cordial and helpful, LensCrafters only sell designer frames and although the discounts appear decent, the total price for a pair of glasses out the door is ridiculous, even with insurance. Spent 40 minutes being apologized as waiting to get help with lens purchase. They were short staffed apparently but I waited for my turn patiently. Finally when I was helped I identified myself as a fellow luxottica employee here to take advantage of the employee sale. I wanted To buy replacement lenses for my Oakleys and was directed to order from Oakley website. 1. why would I wait 40 minutes to be told that. I wanted them to order them for me so I could get my discount and let them figure out the lenses I needed. I also wanted to get some prescription lenses put in my sons new ray ban frames and was directed to come back with him for measurements. That is fine but I wanted to see options and costs for what he wanted since I was there. I did not want to bury the poor understaffed worker with how she could of done these simple orders. LensCrafters Thousand Oaks promised me to special order a certain color sunglass that wasn't available at the store. They had said that it would be ok to special order it and so I trusted them. I paid and was hoping for the quoted "7-10 business days." 2+ weeks later I call asking about my frames' status and they inform me that it is still in the "shipping status" and being looked for since it is a certain color. They then call me a week later telling me "I must restyle (choose another frame) because they are not able to follow through with the order. I go to the store to request a refund and they tell me that If I get the refund I will lose my insurance. I leave the store confused about the incident so I call my insurance (EYEMED) about my benefits and they tell me I am able to get a refund (VOID THE TRANSACTION) and that LensCrafters must allow me to do so. I then go to back to the store and request a refund and LensCrafters tells me that the frame and color I wanted has just arrived. There was a huge lack of communication on their end. What this location was telling me was the opposite of what the insurance said I was guaranteed. I will not return to the Thousand Oaks, CA LensCrafters location. Note: The doctor I had was very professional and informative but the staff was not on the same level. I have been to other LensCrafters locations in my hometown area and had better communication and quicker service. read more

I've had nothing but good experiences at this LensCrafters! Got these glasses almost a year ago. Made sure to get the insurance to be safe. MJ helped me pick out my awesome frames. Ended up sleeping with my glasses on and broke them. I came into the store and got new ones in about 15 minutes I was walking out of the store when new glasses! It was incredible. Bad service, not true to their word. Called to make an appointment for my daughter they asked me for my insurance information I told them I have VSP , I called later that day to find out my coverages, a last tool my insurance policy number which was my social over the phone. She said they would have to process it to obtain that information. So yet again called back inquiring if they had any details, another employee told me "were not Allowed to discuss over the phone because of HIPAA violation" I replied "well why did she take my Social Security number over the phone then" she said that the employee who originally took my info shouldn't of done so. when I arrived at my daughters appointment in the evening I felt like the whole appointment was very rushed because they wanted to end their shift. when I was checking out I found out at that moment that they weren't contracted and all these unexpected expenses came up racking up my daughters bill, transitions, frame coverage etc. I asked well what am I covered for then? The lady employee with the glasses and high pitches voice just replied well VSP is different , she couldn't even break down the prices. I ended up not even ordering my sunglasses because my daughters were a lot already due to the fact that they weren't contracted with my insurance the next day I called in and spoke with the manager explained the situation about the coverage and how it was not explained to me correctly she then went in her system and tried to discount me as much as possible for the sunglasses with the lenses I wanted she said she would write the quote down so when I called in it would be there a week later I called and spoke with an employee and they had no idea what was going on talk about run around read more

I had my annual eye check-up, and everyone was great to work with. I purchased two glasses with prescriptions and picked them up the following week. Gia was terrific! She was so friendly and helpful! It's refreshing to see someone take so much pride in her work and have such a great attitude and fun energy to them! I've been using LensCrafters now for several years and have never had issues until now. Spent over $200 for a pair of Ray Bans, and the finished product was sloppy obviously not done correctly. The lenses were not flush with the frame and the tech tried to blame it on my prescription. I have a very minimal rx and it has not changed much over the past several years. My regular pair of prescription glasses do not have this issue nor have any of my past rx sunglasses. Another male tech then stepped in and continued to explain it away and continued to be dismissive. I will no longer be returning to LensCrafters, moving on to Costco optical. read more

Terrible service. I came in today (Sun 1/6/19 @ 1:15 pm) hoping to get a walk in appointment for an eye exam and to get new glasses. Instead they said no and complained to me about how they've already accepted four walk in's for the day and hadn't had lunch yet. Not sure why that is my problem? They didn't ask if I wanted to schedule for another day, they didn't point me to their frames to try out, they provided ZERO information and help. So I asked if they had any locations in Century City since I work in the area and was hoping they could make an appointment for me, but instead I was answered with, "You can google it." I love the optometrist here, however the sales people in the front seem overworked and under motivated. For some reason they can never verify insurance benefits beforehand which adds a fair amount of wait time when we are there. Also, from a customer service perspective, the sales people are mediocre. Once again, the optometrists are great with the kids, so if you can get past the subpar service, it's worth it for convenience's sake. Also, an addendum- someone who is NOT a doctor will do an entire prescreen on your child before the doctor does the final exam. This seems a bit odd to me. read more

I purchased expensive prescription Oakley sunglasses at TO Lenscrafters. It has been less than two years, and now the lenses are delaminating (coming apart internally). I called Lenscrafters twice about warranty for manufacturing defect and they directed me to Oakley website. The website required creating account, uploading several photos, then led to a page which said "Oakley does not warranty prescription lenses - see your retailer". I called Lenscrafters again and they said to come let the lab technician look. When I got there at first the manager gave me a runaround, "we don't warranty this", but agreed to let the lab check. She came back and said I should report the problem on the Luxottica (owned by Lenscrafters/Oakley) site and gave me the web address. When I did, the Luxottica site was the same as Oakley, and it again indicated the retailer should be contacted. So after spending $500 and a couple hours of work I need to buy new glasses after less than 2 years. read more

I called this store to see if they could make my daughter's glasses in an hour. Phone ring just once and then someone picked up and sat the phone aside. Lovely next three minutes listening to the office. On hold now because okay, I asked three questions. I realize it's almost noon and your busy but all I wanted was what time do you close, do you do glasses in an hour and do you offer photo-grey tinting? I'm hold for standard questions? I got this: 'I have a 3:30 appointment and I don't know if we can do it in an hour because we are really busy.' This place is a rip. Broke a temple ear piece that could have easily been replaced. I purchased my Ray-Ban sunglasses from these guys about 2 years ago. Paid over 350.00 for the frames. They said they 'don't repair or replace broken parts', only sell whole frames with glasses. The person answering the phone spoke so fast I could barely understand them...basically like a fast food order bad experience. Not going back to renew my glass RX for sure with these guys. BTW, I called another Eyewear place and they ordered me the part. A bit pricey (100.00) but better than 350.00. They were pleasant and quick to help. read more

We walked out after listening to the Dr in duty loudly scolding the employees which was inappropriate and demeaning. If they have an HR dept they should have a chat with that DR about how to speak to employees especially around customers. It was also disorganized and the reception personnel seemed overwhelmed. Such a shame as the remodel of the place looks lovely but the atmosphere is off putting. We won't return there. read more

I slipped and did a face-plant. My metal-frame eyeglasses are tweaked. My problem. I went to the Thousand Oaks store where I bought the glasses to get the frames realigned. The functionary that greeted me said the technician would probably break the frames. (The frames are not severally tweaked.) The fellow had great eye contact. But, he does not belong in a customer facing role. I was planning to get another set of sunglasses, and my daughter wants contacts. I had been a 20+ year customer of the store. Special shout out to Matt today at the TO location! My daughter was at the beach today when a rogue wave knocked her glasses off and they were lost in the sea. She was leaving town in the morning at 5 AM and it was late afternoon. I called and spoke with Sarah, who got the ball rolling and when an error was discovered, Matt made it right as quickly as possible. They both worked hard to make sure my daughter had glasses before she left for a 2 week trip! They close at 7 PM, and they had my daughter in new glasses at 6:40 PM! Whew!
