I guess I can't really ask for more as they were really busy. All the other guests were very friendly, which helps as we waited in line for longer than we ate our food! The food was good but not worth a 2 hour wait plus the drive there and back. I recommend it if you like a fatty steak. I think they only do ribeye. We took our first trip to Leona's 6/29 because my husband saw a YouTube post about this place. Hubby thought they opened at 4:30 but when we arrived at 4:45, we saw a long line waiting for the 5:30 opening . Let me say the wait was worth it! This was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The menu is simple, there isn't one.....Friday and Saturday is steak. You tell them what ounce you want (going up in 2oz increments) and the level of doneness. Comes with mashed potatoes and a roll and a trip to the salad bar ( just lettuce and dressing). My steak was definitely over 14oz and was thicker than my husband's and son's. Mine wasn't quite as tender as theirs but it was so good that you don't need steak sauce. The rolls were so good that we also got a half dozen to go. I will come back again for sure! The place is BYOB so that is great if you'd like beer or wine. Other than steak, you can get a chicken breast or pork but we didn't drive from Houston for anything but a steak. However, we were seated promptly after opening time at 5:30 p.m. The staff was very welcoming and organized. You can choose from a variety of rib eye steak from 10oz to 24oz. I chose to get a 10oz steak to enjoy and not have any leftovers. It is big enough so you are not overly stuffed. The steak comes with a mash and bread. Believe me it is just the right amount of food. In addition, you can order it anyway you want from rare to well done. I had mines medium to have the best of both worlds! Let me tell you this STEAK is seasoned to perfection and mouth watering you will not want anything else to top it off. We have been coming to the restaurant for years for the best steaks on earth. We just left so disappointed with the fact they changed the new potatoes to mashed potatoes. We were willing to give them a chance but they did not stand up to the buttery goodness of the new potatoes from before. If I am honest they tasted watered down as if you just got them out boiled water mashed and plated. After years of planning on how am I going to be able to try and visit this little best steakhouse in Texas, it finally happened in the middle of the pandemic. The place is just right off 45 in the middle of nowhere. People who live close by are very lucky to have this. No stress of planning a trip for a legit piece of steak. We arrived at exactly 5:00pm and we are already 4th in line. You.can.BYOB. I repeat! BYOB!!! The general store part of the building sells bottle of wines, soda pop, and trinkets to take home. Wine deals aren't bad. You might end up taking a couple bottles home for yourself. ;) Just drink responsibly it's still a 2 hour drive from Dallas. The steak, yes, the steak is the most delicious, tender, flavorful, cooked to perfection I've had from a casual place. No frills, just delicious steaks! Helpful tip, we ordered 2-12oz but instead order 24oz and extra plate of sides. It's more cost effective that way. We found that out because we were wondering why every couple was ordering 1-24oz because 12oz alone can feed 3 hungry kids. The first time we ate there, we arrived over an hour early before the doors opened and visited with others already waiting in line. The steak that night was by far the best I have ever eaten. Done just right, very flavorful and juicy. The salad bar was just basically lettuce but the cheesy potatoes were good. Went back last weekend looking forward to another great steak. We got there over 1/2 hour early and was behind maybe 50 or 60 people already in line. Luckily we made it in the door in the first batch of folks seated. We waited 2 hours to get our meals after being seated and ordering. Our steaks were undercooked but the worst part was they were full of gristle and fat. At least 1/3 of the steak was unedible and the flavor of the steak tasted like charcoal lighter. Waitress who took our order didn't bring our food and never once came to check on us except to drop off the check. Will never be back to eat there again. Horrible experience. read more

I waited about 2 hours before I could try the steak and if you ask me if I would do it again, I would say probably not, because there are very nice steak houses near my house, like the bar ranch steak company in Plano. It really can't get more Texan than this small town "General Store" Steakhouse. ***As with many small towns in Texas - there were far fewer precautions taken by restaurant staff, and guests - including local law enforcement officers (unmasked during entry) - related to COVID than in Dallas. This made me uneasy despite ordering carryout.*** On a bright note, the steak, cheesy potatoes, green beans, and pecan cobbler were all delicious - the steak exceedingly so!! The cook was perfect, the seasoning spot on, the sear--yum! My mouth is watering remembering that massive steak! I ordered a 10-ounce steak - the smallest steak available on the menu - but was either misheard through my mask or it's true what they say - everything is BIGGER in Texas!! The price was also bigger than calculated (about $33 (plus tip) for a 10-ounce steak meal ($23) and a ($4) dessert). Enjoyed our first visit to Leona General Store- we heard about this place through a friend and so drove an hour to eat here- we didn't arrive until 6:00 and had a 30 minute wait which really wasn't too bad! The staff are all super friendly!!! Which is extra impressive because it's super busy and a little chaotic. There's a small inside waiting area and places to wait outside- there's a soda shop left door where you can go and apparently you might be able to bring those drinks inside- next time we will do this! We split an 18 ounce steak and sides- it really didn't save us much money to split but it was plenty of food! We ate all of it!! Our 4 and 2 year old enjoyed the steak as well. Only two choices on the "menu", ribeye steak and chicken, and I did not see anyone getting the chicken. Steaks are cut fresh to your desired size starting at 10 ounces and up in increments of 2 ounces. Seasoned well and grilled perfectly. Very satisfying! Only sides will be twice baked mashed potatoes and salad. Would be nice to have some green beans or black eyed peas. If you want a beer or glass of wine, you will want to bring it with you. BYOB. Small little town with a great place to get a Steak! We heard about this little place a few years ago and have been wanting to try it. We weren't sure what to expect and left early to get there by the opening time of 5:30pm on Thursdays, Friday's, and Saturday's. We picked a Saturday and got there around 3:45pm so we went next door to check out the Leona Drug Store which has been turned into somewhat of an old Time Soda/Malt shop! We were surprised to find that there was a quickly gathering crowd!!! This is around 4:15 - 4:20pm!!! So we found some seats and sat down to wait, we were about the 6th bunch in line. When They opened the doors at around 5:20pm the line was all the way across the front and about 40 yards past the building!!! We got in and got seated. They took our drink order and gave a quick rundown of the menu. Ribeye steaks or chicken with mashed potatoes, yeast rolls, and a trip to a salad bar. You can order the steaks in two ounce increments starting at 10 ounces. I ordered the 16 oz. Ribeye Medium Rare as did my wife. The salad bar wasn't much, but that's ok because I wasn't there for the salad. I heard this one one of the best steaks in Texas. Its rated one of the top ten places to get a great Steak in Texas according to some. The steaks came out in short order. I can tell you it was seared perfectly over a charcoal fire and cooked to order!!! It was really a great steak. The side of mashed potatoes were good too, but I made room for the steak!!! It was really good!!! The yeast rolls were very good too and I'm not really a bread eater. We had iced tea with our meals and we had our dinner and were out by 6:15p. Under an hour!!! Eclectic memorabilia lines the walls with an old time general store feel. You're going to get whatever is on their limited menu (for us it was steak or chicken) they will cut whatever size steak you want as long as it's in even increments. A small "help yourself" salad bar, butter rolls that melt in your mouth and a limited beverage menu of tea, water or sweet tea. I did see some tables with their own wine so I gather you may be able to BYOB but I did not ask. Well worth it. We ordered a 10oz steak (their smallest portion) and it was as big as a frisbee and cooked to perfection. Bring an appetite as the portions are bountiful. We ordered the "BearCat" for dessert. Here is what you need to know. It's busy. People were lining up at 330 to get in at 530. We arrived at 610, were seated at 745, and ate around 830. Still it was worth it. The steak was great.
