When we are in Oklahoma City this is the bbq place you gotta stop and try. The ribs dinner was delicious as was the pulled pork sandwich. Love the bbq sauce it's got a great kick to it. This place was on diners drive in and dives a few times. I can see why. Not a fancy place just the place for the best bbq I've had in a long time. I just had a stroll down "memory lane" after talking with a friend in Oklahoma City and talking about Leo's. I last visited Leo's BBQ in about 1992. The place looked (and still does look) a bit like a "Dive" from the outside, but the food was WONDERFUL. A local recommended it those 29 years ago. I too remember the rich smoky aroma when I entered the establishment. I also remember sitting between guy in a 3 piece suite and a mechanic in coveralls with a monkey on his back (variety of people from all walks of life and all of us gnoshing on the delicious BBQ!) I hope Leo's is still thriving and serving great food the next time I visit Oklahoma city. It is the Gold Standard by which I judge barbeque. Leo's Bar-B-Q is another Triple D featured eatery in OKC. When you walk in this tiny place, the smoke hits you. The good kind of smoke. NO...not the kind you do at concerts, the Bar-B-Q kind, and that's good stuff. They make their own sausage links and bologna then grill it. I had the Leo's combo which is a sample of all their meats. Beef brisket, a rib, a sausage link and chunks of bologna with potato salad and baked beans. The baked beans have bits of brisket mixed in. While you're waiting for your order, they encourage you to help yourself to as much cucumber salad and collard greens as you like. Both these complimentary items are enough to make a meal out of, they were so good. The cucumber salad was, sliced cucumbers, carrots, red onions, and bell peppers in a rice wine type dressing. The collard greens were delicious, buttery and with brisket bits mixed in too. Leo's Bar-B-Q makes some great food. As you're getting to the end of your meal, the server comes out with a slice of banana strawberry cake that will knock your socks off. I was told by some patrons that Leo's cake is legendary in OKC. Oh goodness!! Where do I begin???? HOR-I-BLE, with a capital HOR-I-BLE!!! My family recently moved here from Los Angeles and we've searched high and low for a good barbeque place...and just good food in general. From the photos and reviews, Leo's seemed like it was a place worth trying and the only thing that stuck out or caused any initial concern from the reviews was price...but like I said..we're from Los Angeles and used to paying higher prices...for QUALITY and QUANTITY. That being said... We ordered 2 rib dinners w/ beans and BAKED POTATOES, plus 2 slices of this so-called "famous strawberry cake"...to our disappointment, the ribs were tough, over cooked, extra small and consisted of mostly gristle, instead of the actual rib (so extra small spare rib like), they gave us potato salad instead of baked potatoes ( it was nasty and bland..w/too much mustard), the sauce was AWFUL (watered down and unbalanced, we used the Sweet Baby Ray's that was in our cabinet instead), beans nasty and lacking in flavor, the "famous strawberry cake" was nothing but a classic pound cake that they diced up one strawberry for garnish ( so just call it pound cake. Thank you.)...even the damn bread was horrible, stale and smelly (how do you get bread wrong??) Save your money and time patronizing this place. They had a sign up that said if you arent satisfied please return unused portion for a full refund, but I drove 25 minutes for this food and we were starving. (They're closed tomorrow and Im not saving this nasty food for 2 days just to get a refund) Thank God for YELP, I feel a little redemption...but Im still hungry and my stomach hurts. I know everyone has their own opinion on what constitutes as good barbecue and good barbecue styles. For me, Leo's is the place to go! They are located at NE 36th and Kelly in a building that looks run down upon first sight. However, when you walk in the door you realize that good things are happening inside. You seat yourself at a table; the menus are on the table and the waitress comes and takes your order. The other day when I went my waitress was an older woman named Cookie. She did an exceptional job and was so friendly. The food at Leo's is delicious and the prices are reasonable too. The other day I ordered the hotlinks with baked beans and macaroni salad. They have options of a sandwich ($6), a light combo ($8) which comes with a fourth pound meat and two sides, a half pound combo ($10) which comes with half pound of meat and two sides, and then several options for family dinners. The meat choices include ribs, hotlinks, brisket, and smoked bologna. All of the meat have a perfect amount of smoke to them and are great accompanied by their homemade barbecue sauce. Their barbecue has the perfect amount of sweetness but also has a spice to it that creates a complex flavor. Something I appreciate about Leo's is that the sides are not an afterthought like most barbecue places. You won't find macaroni salad or potato salad purchased from Sam's in bulk containers and barbecue beans from a can. Their barbecue beans are the best I've ever had and are laden with bacon in their homemade barbecue sauce. I love their macaroni salad, it is creamy with crunchy fresh-cut vegetables in it. The potato salad is excellent too. One thing that they don't tell you but is available upon request is the complimentary greens. They keep them in the brick oven where they keep the smoked meats. The greens have bacon and onions, a good amount of spice to them, and are not bitter at all. Each entrée also comes with a slice of their famous strawberry banana cake. I honestly don't know how they make it so good but it is a perfect ending to the meal. Something I admire about Leo's is that they make you feel like family. It doesn't matter what you look like or if you're there in a big group or alone the owner comes up personally to greet you, tells jokes, and seems to have a great rapport with the regular customers. I really enjoyed watching the staff interact with one another and felt very comfortable while I was there. Had a fantastic lunch at Leo's which serves what is, thus far, the best BBQ I've had in Oklahoma. As most note, there are no frills about Leo's. I don't know that I would call it a "dive," but it most certainly is an older building and I'm sure it's seen better days. But, it's comfortable, and I think the atmosphere is great. We arrived and were immediately approached by a server. He told us on the counter that day was a cucumber salsa and pinto beans. After ordering, I went to check out the counter. The cucumber salsa was a basic cucumber salad with onions and tomatoes and dressed with vinegar and oil. I typically like this type of salad, and Leo's was a very solid version of this dish. But, the pinto beans were even better. Cooked with some pork fat, they were VERY flavorful. I added hot sauce and they were fantastic. I consider the cucumber salad and the beans as 2 additional sides for free, they were that good. Most BBQ joints offer the typical onions, peppers, and pickles, which Leo's has. But, I've not seen a place offer such quality for no additional cost. Very impressed. To eat, I went with the Leo's Special Light. This meal includes a rib, a hot link, a bit of pork, baloney, and brisket, a piece of toast, 2 sides, and a slice of Leo's famous strawberry banana cake. The price for this meal was $16.99. This may seem high to people who see the structure of Leo's or think that BBQ is not worth such a price. This is absolutely worth it. It's a lot of food, it's great quality, and it's served by very friendly people. If you want good food, you should be willing to pay a little more for it. So, while a $17 lunch is too high to do daily, when you eat food as good as Leo's is putting out, it's absolutely worth it. I went with potato salad and okra for my sides. The potato salad was the weaker of the 2, but it still was good. It's basic mustard potato salad that a lot of BBQ joints have. The okra has a thicker breading, which I typically don't prefer, but this was good. It had a nice crunch and was seasoned very well. I'd absolutely get this again. Of the meats, all had a nice smokiness to them. Additionally, all were fresh. I had nothing that was dried out or clearly reused from the night before. My favorite was the rib. It was tender and had a nice pull off of the bone. The rub was very flavorful without being too overwhelming. The baloney had nice smoke and was tender. I'm not a huge baloney guy, but it was good. My second favorite was the brisket. Excellent bark with a little fat, so it was moist. Excellent flavor here. The cake was as advertised. It's moist with a few pieces of strawberries and banana served with it. It's a standard white cake with some very good frosting. I can see why I've heard about this cake from so many people. As noted, everyone was very friendly. We were thanked by every employee in which we came contact. We received our food very quickly, along with tea and water refills. OK, this place is 100% legit. It is a dive and a great one at that! We knew about Leo's from Triple D and visited Leo's on 03/25/2013. The BBQ was some of the best we had. Period. End of story read no further just go and have the brisket. Or the ribs. Or the hotlinks. Or the fried bologna. I can go on. Even the homemade lemonade was great. One thing about Leo's, the BBQ doesn't come drowned in BBQ. They don't need to hide behind it. The BBQ sauce is great, smokey and sweet but you control how much you want. I didn't really want any because the meat was so good on its own. The strawberry-banana cake? My only regret now is we didn't get one to go! The staff was awesome and super-friendly. I had the Leo's special light, which comes with small portions of brisket, hot links, bologna and one rib, as well as two sides (I had macaroni salad and baked beans) and a slice of cake. The cake is famous, and for good reason! Yellow cake with a sweet icing topped with strawberries and bananas. It tasted warm and fresh too, which always makes it better. I'm not a big fan of bologna, but wanted to get a good variety of meats, and I'm glad I did. The ribs and brisket were tender, and the hot link was probably my favorite thing on the plate. When I go back, I'll probably just get the hot link dinner because I definitely could've eaten a few more! If you haven't had Leo's, definitely go! I found Leo's BBQ location at 7 Harrison Ave, the intersection of 4th and Harrison. The staff at my hotel told me they had the very best BBQ in Oklahoma City, and that was the gospel truth. The wait staff were very busy but very helpful and polite-excellent service. But I went there for the food and I wasn't disappointed. The waitress recommended that we order the dinner which included two sides and there famous strawberry/banana cake. I had ribs with beans and coleslaw, my friend had smoked turkey. The ribs were very meaty with little fat; I tried the turkey and that was good also. The beans were missing something, a little mild BBQ sauce corrected that problem; the coleslaw was coleslaw. The cake was moist and well flavored. I washed it down with a constantly filled glass of Sweet Tea. I liked the food so much I went back the next day, I tried the Beef Brisket which I also enjoyed. All of the meat I tried had a good, well smoked flavor that was not too intense and not artificial. You could see the smoke ring in the meat and you could smell the smoke from the pit, which you could see from the seating area. Leo's is a real down home BBQ joint set up in a semi dilapidated former garage. The walls are covered with smoke, the tables covered with a plastic cloth, the floor was cement that had been painted 50 years ago and the lights flickered on and off a couple of times. There is plenty of parking in front. The seating area will hold about 80 diners. The entrance has an area for take out. Both times I visited Leo's, the restaurant was packed. First time in Oklahoma, and we saw that Leo's was rated one of the top bbq places in OKC. When we arrived it looked closer, but to our surprise we were greeted very nicely as soon as we came in. The staff were on point on providing great service. Charles, who I believe is the owner took the time to ask how we were doing which I though was great. Our food was prepared very quickly. Going to leos has been on my bucket list for a while, ever since I saw it featured in Triple D. I finally got a change to try it out while I was in the area the other day. I ordered a Leo's Special to go which included Ribs, smoked Bologna, brisket, hot links, potato salad, baked beans, and a slice of banana strawberry cake. Service was prompt and I got my to go order very quickly! I couldn't resist trying some on the drive back so I opened up the box and grabbed a hot link. Those had the perfect amount of spice and were slightly blistered making the skin a little crispy. The brisket was a little dry for my taste, but it went well with the baked beans. I was most excited to try the ribs. I usually judge ribs by if they fall off the bone or not. Unfortunately, leos did not make the cut but they were still flavorful none the less. I might give them another shot in the future since other reviews said they did. The banana strawberry cake though. That really stole the show. It is as good as all the reviews say! Definitely give that a try. Overall, this is a good BBQ joint but not the best in Oklahoma. I do appreciate that the service was quick and friendly. Oh the ribs have this crisp on it that I have never had; it was so amazing. The brisket is amazing as well with a great smoked flesh. The inside is as small as the parking lot, but so worth it. The neighborhood is a bit rough, but we're here for food right? The bbq sauce is very unique, but after smacking on it for a second trying to figure out the recipe it started to settle in and I gushed it all over my plate. The menu isn't very straight forward with the options, but I was able to mix meats(brisket and one rib) and get two sides and BONUS!!! it comes with a slice of the outstanding delicious sweet strawberry banana cake. First off, Leo's was very accommodating to us. We had a group of 20 come in with 45 minutes notice and not only did they make it work, they had attentive service for everyone. Leo's was suggested by a customer at my wife's work, and after seeing the high reviews here, we decided to try it for her birthday. So glad we did! Leo's is a dive by intent I think, and it works for them. It has a laid back, friendly feel. They even offer complimentary cucumber salad while you wait. The prices are up there (plates go from 8-30$ depending on how much food you want) but the portions are hefty. I ordered their special, which was a variety platter and subbed their Bologna for some smoked chicken. I dove into their ribs, trying it first without sauce. I probably could have feasted on ribs the entire menu, to be honest. Very well seasoned, meaty, and tender, Leo's knows how to do ribs. I later finished off the ribs with their hot bbq sauce, which is excellent. Their hot links are delicious, with more flavor than pure heat. The beef is also good. I wouldn't call it stellar, but it's certainly worth ordering by itself. Sides I got were onion rings (wow!) and fries (so so), both at a small up charge. I tried the baked beans and they were pretty good. Kinds of a celery taste to them. Their lemonade is some sort of Kool aid mix but is quite tasty, and the drinks are relatively cheap (2$ dine in or 1$ to go). Each dinner comes with a small slice of their banana strawberry cake which is a perfect way to end the meal. Its hard to recommend this place enough. I've had the best of Kansas City for the past 10 years and Leo's rivals many of them. So these grades are based upon my high standards. Brisket was 2 stars Ribs were 4 stars Sausage was 3 stars Beans were 3 stars Fries were 3 stars Macaroni salad was 3 stars Strawberry banana cake was 5 stars!!! The restaurant seemed clean too. Leo's BBQ is legendary throughout the State of Oklahoma for their delicious hickory smoked meats (Brisket, Pork Ribs, Bologna and Hot Links) - I sure wish they would smoke beef ribs (my favorite).The restaurant is a very small dive, with limited parking. Today we ordered combo plates of chopped brisket, baked bean, potato salad with white toasted bread (a little on the burnt side today). With our combo orders we each (4 hungry friends) received a complimentary slice of their famous Strawberry Banana cake. We also ordered a pound of pork ribs. My only complaint is, they do not remove the Silverskin from the Ribs before smoking. Other than that, they were tender and flavorful. The chopped brisket was very tender with the perfect amount of smoke. Their sides are; Fried Okra, French fires, Onion rings, Baked beans, Cole Slaw, Potato salad, & Macaroni salad; I'll just order the meats without sides. This was another one of my stops on my road trip from Richmond, Va to Goodyear, Az. I've got to say, it was probably one of my favorite places that we stopped at. Initially walking in I wasn't sure if I wanted to order anything, because it was dead, but given, it was close to closing time, I still went in. I was immediately greeted by someone who I talked to briefly on some of the top things to try, and she let me know that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Needless to say, I think she was right. The portion size for the price, I felt, was very good. The food was hot, fresh and on point! My plate had beef brisket, smoke sausage, fried okra, baked beans and some toasted buttered bread with a side of sauce. I had so much that I had enough to save for later, had to be careful not to eat it all, as we had some more road to cover through the night. My friend got ribs, coleslaw, smoked sausage and baked beans. Both meals came with a strawberry banana cake which was melt in your mouth good. One of my goals on my road trip was to try out various local spots on what the city is "known" for. Glad I stopped at Leo's, they definitely represent OKC BBQ very well. She was friendly, made great suggestions and was absolutely charming. My focus was meat- I wanted ribs and brisket....it came w slaw and beans, which were good, too....but that brisket, though!! OMG- it melted in my mouth! I only wish they didn't chop it up- I prefer the slices and being able to see the smokey ring---but i forgave them for it as soon as I took a bite. Being diehard Warriors fans, we walked into this place with, not only our Warriors shirts on, but our Kevin Durant Warriors shirts on. We thought this to be a good idea before seeing what kind of neighborhood Leo's BBQ was in. Luckily all we got were a couple of confused/dirty looks. This was our first BBQ pit stop (see what I did?) on our honeymoon road trip and we were very excited. The place already looked perfect at first glance. It was a hole-in-the-wall in a ghetto-looking part of town. Awesome! (not sarcasm) Stepping inside, it almost didn't quite look like it should. It was surprisingly big, although they make up for it by seating you in picnic chairs at long tables topped with red and white checkered table cloths. For the food, the brisket was $17 per pound, but we opted for the half-pound dinner ($14), which comes with a side. We added a couple ribs for $3.50. The sauce was very good. Much similar to a Texas-style sauce, but a little sweeter. The pepperiness prevented it from becoming too cloying over time. Since OKC doesn't really have their own sauce "style", it makes sense that it shares similarities to their neighbors to the south. Nevertheless, I bought a bottle to take back with us. The brisket was moist, but really lacked flavor--which is where the sauce came in handy. But still, you really don't like having to use the sauce as a crutch. The dry meat would've been forgiven if the ribs were phenomenal. I mean, they weren't bad, but they also didn't really fall of the bone that easily either. The sides were good, but they were out of a lot. The baked beans had a very good and unique flavor, mixing sweet with a ranch style taste. We ordered macaroni salad for the other side, which just shows how much they were lacking that day in the sides department (I'm not a fan of macaroni salad). But truthfully, it was better than others I've had. For dessert, they gave us some strawberry banana cake on the house. It was extremely moist and oozed with flavor. I would never order a white cake voluntarily, but this one was actually really good. Apparently they're known for it. I would come back to this place to give it another shot. Looks nothing like a restaurant on the outside, but all the cars & trucks in the small parking lot make you wonder 'what's going on in there?' Don't go for a late lunch or you won't get what you want. Once they're out of something, they're out. The 2 waitresses ran their tails off in the 2 dining rooms. The customers were dressed in either fancy suits & ties (I heard they were legislators) or jeans & work boots and everything in between. There were 3 of us & we all had something different so we could share. We were too late to try the onion rings as they were out. The brisket & ribs were very moist & juicy. The sauce was not too sweet and the hot sauce was very hot. We're looking forward to going back. read more

Ribs were good, sides were good and brisket had good flavor, but a little too fatty for my pallet.

My friends grandparents took me here several years ago and I'm still thinking about that cake.

Great food and great sides!! I got the light dinner with brisket and baked beans- soo good! The rib ends are a must try as well. Don't forget to get their special strawberry banana cake for dessert. A great experience! read more
