Leo's BBQ was our fourth writable stop on our Triple D road trip. The place, as said in other reviews, is nothing to look at. It's a creaky old wooden shack-like building. There are a couple very large fans hanging from the ceiling to help with the heat. The Food: It's recommended when you go there to get dinner plates as these come with dessert! "Beef brisket" was served chopped with a side of coleslaw, baked beans and a slice of white bread. The meat was tender and the sauce was delicious (if you like tangy and sweet). "Pork Ribs" dinner was also served with the same sides above. The meat pulled right from the bone and the smoked flavor was great! "Strawberry Cake" was served with both meals. The cake had a banana flavor with a lemon icing and fresh strawberries on top. This was my favorite part of the meal! Service: It was a bit confusing when you first walk in. We didn't know if we could seat ourselves or if we needed to wait to be seated. We seated ourselves upon direction. The service was excellent. read more

Where it lacks it decor, it makes up in quality food! While this joint is in a rough neighborhood, this establishment shows terrific class by giving a terrific bang for the buck. I visited Leo's BBQ in early August with my first cousin, where I rendezvoused with my extended family, whom I had not seen for years. They make available family-sized trays that feature an assortment of meats, breads and sides, which should be more than enough for meals fit for two families! We're all largely-built individuals, (all each over 6' tall), yet we could only get through half a platter! I give a hearty recommendation for people who are looking for fantastic Midwestern barbecue! read more

Went here occasionally when I was in Northeast High School back in the early 80s, figured I'd try it again to see how it had fared, and the answer is extremely poorly. If a place is a dive, the food can offset that if it's good enough, it's not, it's barely acceptable. We both got the light dinner with brisket and beans, wife wanted cole slaw but they were out (at 1:30 on a Sat afternoon), so she got macaroni salad and I had potato salad. Brisket was chopped and incredibly fatty, but not the good kind that adds flavor, this was tough, gristly fat, probably about 1/3 fat, 2/3 meat. Beans tasted like Van Camp's out of a can with a bit of brisket meat (thankfully no fat) added. Macaroni salad was average, potato salad was mustardy, and average. They were out of cake, but baking one, so we had to wait about 15 minutes after we finished before we could get the cake (took it to go and haven't eaten it yet). Floor is patched up with steel panels that are unstable and it makes the tables incredibly wobbly and drinks can be spilled quite easily. Had to wait at the cashier for a while because he had to get someone's to-go order. Server was good, bread was good, iced tea was good, that's about it, cannot believe how this place stays in business charging what it does for below-average food, service that's great, and the feeling you could fall through the floor if you step in the wrong place. Update - the cake is the best thing about a meal at Leo's, it's not great, but it doesn't suck as much the rest of the food. Also, THEY ADD A 3.99% SERVICE CHARGE IF YOU DON'T PAY WITH CASH, BE AWARE. It's noted by a small sign on the cash register that you probably won't notice since you've waited far longer than necessary to pay and just want to get the hell out of there. read more

Baked potato was a bit over cooked. Beans were good, macaroni salad is simple with good flavor potato good as well! Don't be put off by the look of the place from the outside. The urban renewal look hides some great bbq. We had the split supper of 1/2 pound each of brisket (good), chicken (excellent) sausage (excellent), and ribs (outstanding). Baked beans are good, mac salad very good, lemon cake rounds out the meal and helps temper the flames in your mouth if you decided to ignore the hosts warning about their hot bbq sauce. I kind of feel like the reviews don't do this place justice. And no, I'm not giving it 5 stars so I guess I'm part of the problem. Still, I feel like this place should be a 4.5 as opposed to a 3.5 in the overall reviews. When yelp allows me to do 4.5 I'll update my review I promise. A friend and I went for lunch to try the place out since we are always looking to try a new spot and we only recently moved our office to midtown. This place has a lot of 'buzz on the street' so we finally made our way here. The ambiance is exactly what I want in a BBQ joint! Small, no frills, a few tables that you can share with random strangers (yes there are normal tables too where only one party sits), and brown paper towels with two kinds of BBQ sauce sitting on the table. The food did not disappoint either. We split the Super Leo's Special (three ribs, pulled pork, hot links, smoked bologna, potato salad, and coleslaw), and upon the plate arriving at our table the massacre of smoked meats began. This was the perfect amount of food for two people. I absolutely loved the hot links and potato salad. Not to say that the ribs, pork, bologna, etc. weren't really good (they were), but the links and the potato salad stood out for me. I wanted to try the brisket (one of the ways I typically judge BBQ), but we were late and it would be another 30 minutes before there was more available. Oh well. I often expect that there cannot be too much good coming from a hole in the wall sort of 'cue joint, one that sits off on a pretty ghetto road. That is exactly what I found to be true at Leo's. Yes, there was much in the way of nitty gritty appeal, but you just cannot be a classic 'cue joint without offering by the pound. The ribs were dry and not entirely tender. Both extremely large mistakes in the way of bone meat encasing the internal organs on a swine. The brisket still held on to some chewiness, and it boasted an extremely bland interior. Additionally, there was no bark present, and without smokiness whatsoever, this piece of cattle was terrible. Absolutely terrible. The macaroni salad was chock full of... mayonnaise but not flavor. The baked beans were far too sweet. The only saving grace on the non-meat things was the cake, which was super moist. And it was free. Sauces are pretty bad too. The spicy was just far too sticky, and the normal was sweet as candy. You may argue that Leo's has tradition, Oklahoma-style smoked animal, and a lot more in the way of character. I heard about Leo's for a long time and then saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Oklahoma City has several good BBQ places, but I wanted to see why many proclaimed it the best bbq in OKC. I ordered a light portion of the sampler. It included a spare rib, chopped brisket, a hot link, smoked bologna, baked beans and a strawberry-bananna cake for dessert. The rib was amazing and the chopped brisket had a great taste. You could drink the bbq sauce, it's so good. Many people were coming in to pick up to-go orders. Several just getting their famous strawberry-banana cake. The only thing that brings my rating on this spot down is the dining experience. We had a waitress that seemed like she was uninspired to be working at 1 pm and the dining room looked like a tornado hit it. Went here once when I was a Kid, I remember making a road trip with the family from ATL to LA. My dad had marked off restaurants to try on the way and this was one of them. I was watching the Food Network one day and saw this place on Diners, Drive Inns, and Dives. It brought back memories of the visit and I remember the BBQ very well. I'm sure all of you who clam to know about BBQ know that boiling meat is a sin, some people tend to think that falling off the bone means soft to the point of no texture, let me explain "falling off the bone" Meat needs to hold it's form and needs to be firm to the touch, when pulling meat from the bone meat needs to tear away cleanly from the bone. When this is accomplished and mastered on a consistent bases, then and only then is a BBQ joint worthy of it's 4 stars or better. If you ever pass through Oklahoma it's a must try BBQ joint Tri-tip is awesome! If this is the best BBQ in OKC, then I'm skurred. I was excited when I pulled into what you may (or may not) call a parking lot. It looked like a run down shack, but I could smell the smoke. After I walked inside, I felt as if the life were sucked out of me. It was pretty dreary, as were the attitudes of those (both workers and customers) inside this little hole in the wall. Or, maybe I'm just an overly enthusiastic, highly, energetic person? I ordered the Leo Lite plate to go. The pork was not fall off the bone. The sause was nothing spectacular or noteworthy. The smoked bologna and sausage looked exactly like the ones I ate the Earl's Rib Palace. Do you all buy your bologna and sausages from the same place? The bread was just bread - slices of bread taking from a bread loaf. But, they were super fresh. The brisket was decent and I don't even like brisket. The bean's were good. That's about it. I read up on all the hype and was sorely disappointed. Sorry Leo's. You missed your mark. That just means I need to haul my ass to Texas for some good Q. read more

This place was pretty good, but I've had better. There's nothing really bad to say. Hospitality was very good and the place was pretty run down but I think that added some good character to the experience. Their BBQ sauce is pretty unique, for me in a good way, but I know others who didn't prefer it. (BBQ sauce has a cinnamon flare). What stood out the most was the complimentary relish and bean buffet which was a very welcome appetizer to our meal. The pinto beans from the little buffet bar were much better than the baked beans that came with the dinner plate. Had a friend tell me this is the best "Q" in the state. So the expectations were very high. He is wrong! It is not bad q, but Smokies in Broken Arrow is much better. The ribs were great but the bologna, brisket, and hot links were pretty bland. The hot barbecue sauce is the weirdest sauce I have ever eaten. I actually thought that they had accidentally dropped an aromatic cleaner in it. I told the waitress something was wrong with it. She had someone else taste it, and apparently that's how it's made. The establishment was in a decent neighborhood, but didnt look the best. The instant I entered I had a welcoming feeling. I was greeted warmly by a man named Kevin, who ended up being our waiter. Kevin made me have a pleasant dininf experience with lovely conversation. The food was tops! I had Leo's special which came with two ribs, two slices of baloney, brisket and two sausages. I came here for some delicious smokey meat after hearing about this place from my cousin. And oh boy is it delicious! No wonder this place is so well known in the area. The bbq sauce is so good you could drink it! Try the smoked brisket and sausage. And the baked beans while you're at it! Whenever I travel, especially to the midwest, I like to try some local BBQ. I'm a huge fan of BBQ and the smoking methods used to obtain the flavor, texture, etc. of the meat(s). I have sampled BBQ in many states but this was my first time to OKC and therefore my first BBQ review thereof. Leo's was highly recommended both online and by locals so it was imperative I try their food. I ordered the Leo's Special which included ribs, sausage, pork, thick bologna, potato salad, & beans. Everything was exceptional. The smokiness, texture, flavor profile was everything you would expect in a BBQ. Leo's is definately in my top three BBQ's and perhaps may be #1. The three other gents I went with had bbq two nights prior at another local establishment and were raving how much better Leo's was compared to what they had before. We pretty much knew it was going to be a hit judging by how many patrons were still there close to 1 p.m. for lunch. Now, the thick bologna was something new to me; not sure if it's a local thing or what. I wasn't completly in love with it but I don't think it was a main feature; rather just an attribute to the overall meal. Anyway, I definately had an awesome meal and experience and will go back next time I'm in OKC. Guys at work called an audible for lunch to Leo's. Said "great Yelp reviews so let's try it". Glad we did! Awesome place! You think when you drive up; "it just has to be good"! Welcomed by the aroma of the burning wood pit and a wonderful hostess. Ordered, then helped ourselves to the condiment bar of beans and/or tomatoes, onions and cucumbers in vinegar - wow! May be some of the best barbecue around... I mean it was on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Drives! Totally sketchy building. Watch your step walking in and be prepared to be knocked over with kindness and welcome when you step through the door. Nicest people you will ever meet and proud of what they do. Plus, they are huge Sooner fans, so that's a bonus. The food is great and quick to be served. Hot links are nice and spicy, chopped brisket is ridiculously tender, and ribs are pretty tasty, too! But, don't forget to save room for the banana cake with strawberries. It's insane. People forget to look up when they eat it. No talking, just forks scraping the last bits off the plate. Anyhow the food is very tasty, I had a ribs hot link dinner with potato salad and collards. Leo's is definitely probably not located in what is considered to be the "good" part of town, but that has no influence on the quality of the 'cue. If anything, good barbecue exists in spite of it. I was in town only to make a delivery, so my time in OKC and Leo's was limited to me popping in and getting some brisket to go. I don't know if you've ever tried eating a Styrofoam container of barbecue while driving a 12-passenger van, but it's not easy, and I don't recommend it. Still, what was I going to do, let it get cold on my way back to Wichita? Yeah, RIGHT. The brisket was great and the hot sauce did indeed have a very nice kick to it. Also unexpectedly good was the slice of strawberry shortcake I got, which was way more moist than it should have been that late in the day. Am I saying that this barbecue is good enough to put countless other lives at risk due to my willingness to fork and drive? That's for you to decide. But the answer is 'yes'. read more

Love the atmosphere of this place. It literally looks like a shack from the outside. Which is just the type of place I'm looking for when eating BBQ. When you walk in you can see the brick pits in the back. The smell of smoke is strong in there. Don't know if I went on an off day or what but the brisket was TERRIBLE. There was absolutely no seasoning, texture was tough and full of gristle. Worst of all, the smoke flavor was absent. I know brisket is very challenging to make but this was amongst the worst I've had. Went to Leo's for the first time. I've always heard about the place. I've seen the episode of Diners, Drive In's and Dives. So when the opportunity came up I jumped at the chance. We got seated immediately. A party of 4. Was greeted at the table by Shonda. We was our host and greeted us. Made us feel comfortable from the very beginning. She asked if it was our first visit. She made sure we knew where everything was at. She told us all about the menu. Suggested a dinner that we all could share and about the kids meals for my two kids. The food arrived quickly. The food was hot, fresh and tasted great. Good meaty ribs, hot links with the right about of flavor and heat! Perfectly cooked okra and the baked beans were really good. While we were eating, Charles, Leo's son, checked on us. Made sure everything was good. I was really impressed with how the Leo's staff was so welcoming and nice! Of course the food was great! I hate to give Leo's a bad review because I've been visiting this place for a while now. Every time I was in OKC it was a must, not after my last two visits. The flavor and quality of their food has been declining and to the point where I'm not even going back. Brisket was tough and bland, ribs were dry and not much flavor either. The beans were pretty much thick bean paste. Back to square one OKC, have to find me a new go to place when in the area. The people working there are awesome and nice.
