Place was super busy for a Wednesday. Bone in wings was phenomenal. The sauce tasted homemade. Good selection of beers. The chicken & brie sandwich was very tasty. Ribs were a little dry. The tacos were also very good. Waitress was great too! I would come back. Prices were very reasonable. I would give 5 stars but it was the ribs. Want to try the French onion soup. Went here as a spontaneous date night with my fiancé on a Friday. Overall, the vibe is very "undergrad bar" scene except with a more "adult" crowd (early 30s) and very early closing time for a Friday night. The food was meh... their spinach and artichoke dip was one of the worst I've had haha, it was like 99% oil and Parmesan. Not really the taste / texture we were going for. The staff was nice enough, except our waiter would come by every so often and ask us how we were doing as he walked away?? So I guess I'm glad I didn't really have much to complain about. Beer selection is decent though so i imagine if you're just looking for a nice beer and maybe an subpar app or two, this could be your spot. read more

My family came here on Tuesday night for our one night out during our trip to Garden City - and what a waste it was! I had the flavorless ribs (the sauce & seasoning sucks), undercooked fries and even more flavorless & dry cole slaw. My young song had the shrimp that were beyond dry and chewed like rubber. My wife had the onion dip which was barely better than mine and my son's dinner. This place is a definite skip - forever. In years previous, I would have told you to stay away from this place but now, OMG the food is incredible and the atmosphere is just perfect. I grew up in Garden City and before they remodeled the place, it just seemed kinda sketchy and the food was mediocre. I was impressed with this restaurant. My friends and I were greeted warmly and seated right away. I ordered the quinoa burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was quite good and the fries were stellar. My friend ordered the BLTA salad and she said it was okay. Stopped in on a recent Sunday night to get some pub food. We knew Leo's had undergone some changes but thought the menu would be the same or similar - not so. Gone is the pub fare and in its place are more nouveau cruisine entrees. My husband wanted fish & chips but not they way they serve them - "fish and dips"? At least the burgers, fries and Guinness are still good. The new architecture is OK - like the fireplace. Service was good. We hope they realize they're in Garden City not New York City and add back the pub fare that they were always known for serving. There is an abundance of nouveau cruisine dining spots on Garden City. But it is still Leo's since 1942 as the emblem on the door notes ( see pix) it is midtown located as it's on the corner of Franklin Ave. And 7th st. They've had simple outdoor seating available for 3 weeks now along with a walk up bar. All was mediocre including the sevice or lack of it. We had burgers fries and the order of sweet potatoes was a worthy 2 dollars more. Parking is in the back off of 7th street. While there are various places near by it was nice to sit outside on such a beautiful day. read more

After a nearby drs appt, we Sat outside for lunch. I was craving a melty steak/roast beef sandwich and we were happy to land here. The host was very sweet and checked in on us often. The sandwich was delicious and the fries were like McDonald's! My husband loved his goulash as well. I went to Leo's for lunch with a couple of friends. We each ordered a salad. Mine had super crisp lettuce, avocado, tomatoes and bacon. I asked for the dressing on the side but it came on the salad. My friends enjoyed their salads, saying they were delicious. I would go back as they have a great menu and the prices are not crazy. read more

This place is a venerable and popular garden city joint that is always packed, everyone knows each other here and everyone is very friendly! The food is good but not great - the fish and dip was slightly soggy and the chili is actually weirdly sweet and not at all tangy/spicy. But the ribs are great and they have waffle fries and good beer. Best of all they have ample outdoor seating, are dog friendly, and have an outdoor fireplace so you can hang out well into the fall season! read more

Unfortunately there was a long wait for the food. 1 friend asked for medium rare burger and it was well done but still tasted pretty good. A newly updated Leo's bar & restaurant has a wonderful appeal to all local residents and out of towners that want to enjoy the liveliness of this establishment. The original restaurant was opened as far back as 1942. The restaurant has upholstered booths, dark wood interior, traditional upscale bar, and an indoor and outdoor fireplace. The bar area has an accordion style door that can be open to the street when the weather permits. Although the restaurant has an upscale and trendy appearance, the restaurant still has a truly casual atmosphere For this particular visit we were mostly enjoying drinks in the bar area which is hopping with many people. We really enjoyed the bar area with friends while also meeting new people. On my next visit, we will order appetizer dishes such as their popular chili and French onion soup. I will probably order these appetizers from my favorite seating in the restaurant; the bar area of course. read more

Have you ever looking forward to eating somewhere only to be disappointed? Last night my Wife, Son and I took our dog Leo out for dinner. We were told the wait for a table would be 30 to 45 minutes. We were appreciative they were open on July 4th and told them it wouldn't be an issue. The wait ended up to be and hour and 15 minutes. This is where the disappointment starts. Our waiter who you could tell was being overworked came over and very nicely ask if the hostess told us that because of take out orders the kitchen is backed up. It would take at least an hour for our food to come out. When I spoke to the manager who while we were waiting cam over to see Leo what happened all I got was an I'm sorry. If we were told about the kitchen issue we would have found another place to eat sooner and would have look forward to going back another night. Bad service and management can't be overlooked when there are so many more options. read more

Leo's has been around for a long time. I've been there occasionally over the years and it hasn't changed much. You can always be sure of a decent meal. It's pub food. Hamburgers, sandwiches, salads and other bar foods. Tonight I ordered one of the specials. Sauerbraten, potato pancakes, and red cabbage. It was good but not great. There wasn't a lot of flavor in the gravy and the meat was a little dry. If you're in the mood for a gourmet meal, this isn't it, but if you want a salad or sandwich, give it a try. read more

My husband and I decided to come here Saturday night for dinner since 3 other nearby restaurants I called all had at lease a 45 min wait and this one didn't. We arrived around a quarter after eight, place wasn't really busy and we got seated right away at a booth. I noticed their prices are on the higher side for what it is especially at a restaurant & bar but it's definitely bc of the location we're in and I was guessing their portions are probably larger than usual (the reason why I didn't order an appetizer). My husband got the California chicken cutlet sandwich and I got the baby back ribs. The food came out quickly and portions were very generous but in terms of taste, it was quite disappointing. According to my husband, his chicken cutlet was very dry and beyond salty. And my ribs were truly fall off the bone baby back ribs but was lacking flavor and tasted like bbq sauce was smothered on after it was cooked, not marinated. Most of my fries became soggy from the bbq sauce and the cole slaw was decent. Service was ok, although server was not knowledgeable about the menu and didn't refill our water until I asked him to, he did apologize and was very friendly towards the end. read more

My boyfriend and I were staying at a hotel nearby and wanted to go to dinner somewhere walkable, and kind of randomly selected this place. We almost didn't come here because of some of the reviews.. but I was really glad we did! He had an open-faced steak sandwich, and I had a bacon burger with horseradish. Everything we had was delicious.. especially the super crispy fries. We both had to force ourselves to stop eating the fries to save room for dessert. We had a salted caramel brownie which sadly was just mediocre.. but we definitely left happy and full anyway! read more

Leo's Midway is located right in the busy streets of Garden City. It is extra busy there during the summer, especially on Fridays. They offer outdoor seating and since every Friday is a block party, they even have tables extended onto the streets. The space indoors isn't huge and they have booths and tables to cater to different sized parties. Oddly enough, the wait for outdoor seating was longer than sitting indoors. I guess everyone wanted to enjoy the summer weather. My friends and I (party of 5) only had to wait about 25 min for indoor seating compared to the 2 hours for outdoors. Service felt pretty slow the entire time. Our waiter was nice but it did take a while for our food and drinks to come out. Portions were decently sized; definitely had some leftovers after. They did not skimp out on the fries for sure. They were nicely fried and salty enough. I got their Garden City Burger and it was decent. Felt like the patty didn't have much flavor, but all the rest of the toppings together gave it more flavor. Others got the Steak Sandwich, California chicken Sandwich, and French Onion Dip. The steak didn't have much flavor either; I feel like they don't marinate their meats enough. I didn't try the chicken sandwich or french onion dip, so I can't speak much on that. We've been here many times. The food is reliable, nothing special but always good. Unfortunately, our last experience there has prevented us from returning. We stopped in after work around 5:30 with our infant sleeping the the stroller. We went to grab two open seats at the bar. As we sat down the bartender came over and started barking us away saying we weren't allowed anywhere near the bar with a baby. "Didn't we know she could get hurt?" Aside from being shocked, because we've eaten out with her both bar-side and at tables countless times, he approached and scolded us so loudly we felt we had to leave. People were staring at us. Some dine almost directly after making the driving trip, obvious from the conversation as they're dining. It's something that can hurt all restaurants in the area by Fall/Winter. Where does enforcement fall for this? Random patrol by GC police would find at least 2 dozen suspect vehicles every evening. read more

When they placed the food in front of me and I told them, I'm sorry this isn't what I ordered, the boy just started at me blankly?? He then asked if he should just leave it instead of replacing it with my actual order... very strange. If I wanted what he bough out then I would've ordered it. I liked the fireplace and the booths. Two nice tables opened up very quickly before my guest arrived and I asked if we could move over to one of them as our table was very uncomfortable. The nasty hostess said it was a big deal for her to change our table and promply seated people who arrived after me at the two other tables and was very nasty and rude to me. She is a blond middle aged lady with a terrible attitude. Our waitress Jayne acted annoyed from the start and did nothing to make us feel welcome or that she wanted to please us in any way. We asked for refills on drinks 3 times before we received them at the same time as our check. No customer service skills at all. Lastly, my Caeser salad was made up of only the floppy part of the Romaine lettuce and none of the crispy pieces at all. The salad was flat and limp with dried out pieces of grilled chicken.
