The time that we got to spend working with Steph and Phyllis at LeRoy to design and fit our rings was just fantastic--they were welcoming and kind, patient, creative, and went out of their way to design and craft rings that were exactly what we envisioned in our minds' eyes. Their process is probably a little more old-fashioned than newer jewelers that are using this-n-that software, but we put our complete trust in them and we are over-the-moon happy with the results...now we are walking around with absolutely unique works of art on our fingers. I had a great experience here from start to finish. We spontaneously went here on First Night Tacoma to look around at the local artwork that they sell. I ended-up chatting with Stef (sp?) and told him I'm looking for someone to redesign my Grandma's wedding band for my own engagement ring. He introduced me to Karen and I immediately felt so comfortable. They both spoke to me about how passionate they are about designing jewelry that has history and emotions behind it. They totally got it! A few weeks later, I sat down with Karen and my fiancé and we both felt like she was such a good listener. She emailed me four VERY different designs, which was helpful because I could give her my feedback about each design. In the end, she designed the most beautiful engagement ring for me and I'm still in love with it. It captures my style, but still has that classic look that reminds me of my Grandma every time I look at it. I've been in a few times to have it resized and have the prongs adjusted, which they always do for free. I am such a fan of LeRoy's and I recommend them to anyone who's looking for custom jewelry. This is a good story. I go to China 3-4 times each year, and cycle everywhere in Beijing as it's the easiest and fastest way to get around. On my last trip, I noticed that Beijing cyclists smacked the passenger window of cars that came too close or pulled out w/o paying attention. Sure enough, one soon pulled out in front of me, missing me by inches. I soon caught up with the car at a light, and smacked the passenger window hard with my left hand, scaring the s^&t out of the passenger engrossed in her iPhone. Well, I guess I smacked it really hard, as I bent my wedding ring :) I called Leroy to see if this is something they could do. They said sure, so I biked down to the store. Very friendly and professional service. They also loved the engraving "on belay", which my wife and I both have on our rings. We were big rock climbers when we met, and "on belay" means "I gotcha". It's also used in France on wedding rings. The person said he'd engraved one other "on belay" on a ring, so was very pleased to see mine. Leroy Jewelers fixed it for me without charging me. I would have been happy to pay whatever, as the ring could not be used in its bent condition. They also liked the story of how it got bent. Highly recommend them! read more

Last Christmas I went into LeRoys to look around. The sales lady was pushy. I ended up buying a pendant with my kids birth stones and a chain. After 2 weeks the chain broke, I returned it and they said that a childs chain was put on it. They replaced it with a different chain. After a few months the chain broke again. I didn't have time to return it to Le Roys so I took it to Fred Meyers in Puyallup and they told me that the chain wasn't real gold. I was shocked and angry. They lead me to believe it was 24kt gold. I called Le Roys to express my anger and they were like oh well to bad. I am all about supporting local businesses especially during this pandemic but I will not recommend this to anyone. We were strolling through downtown Tacoma today (don't ask) when we spotted Le Roy Jewelers. Mr H was needing a new watch band so he suggested going in to see if he could buy one there. As we got closer, we saw it was now, actually Le Roy Jewelers and The Art Shop. Cool, we thought. We like art. Perhaps they'll have some nice stuff. And, they did. Problem was, after looking at said art for about one minute, a sales person came running over to us. "Are you just visiting Tacoma?" she asked. "Have you been in our store before?" Exchanging niceties for a few seconds is fine, but she hovered. She followed us as we attempted to look at the merchandise, making comments about everything our eyes touched along the way. Finally, she bought the clue that we were not interested in chatting and left us to browse. All was fine for another minute when ANOTHER sales person came running over. "Are you just visiting Tacoma?" she asked. (Does anyone who actually lives in Tacoma ever come in here?) "Have you been in our store before? Let me tell you how we work." (Um, you sell things and people buy them?) Again, we exchanged niceties. Again, she hovered. She told us the history of the store. We didn't care. We just wanted to be left alone to browse. Finally, we just left. I realize economic times are tough. I'm sure sales are down and so anyone that walks in the door is hailed as a potential customer. But, part of being a good sales person is knowing how to read your customers. Both of these people should have figured out much quicker than they did that we had no interest in their banter. I absolutely HATE hovering sales people who don't just let me look at their merchandise and interact with whomever I am with in peace. It makes me very uncomfortable and makes me feel like they do not trust me at all. They had some very lovely stuff in this store and we would have loved to have looked around more. But, these people's pushiness pushed us right out the door. read more

I have had a mixed bag of experiences with LeRoy, but it's mostly negative and I don't plan on returning for their services. While they cleaned my wedding ring for free, I brought 2 other rings to them for repair and was very unsatisfied with the service. In both instances, they quoted me a specific price for the repairs as well as a date the jewelry would be ready for pick up. In both instances, I called the day before, or the day they indicated they would be done, and they hadn't even looked at the jewelry yet. If I hadn't called to check in, who knows how long I would be waiting. For one of the rings, they quoted me a reasonable rate for the repairs, but then upon talking to them after several weeks of waiting, the amount more than tripled. I wish they had speedier and more attentive service, and I didn't feel like I needed to keep checking in to make sure they were doing their job. read more

The daughter of the owners was the one who "helped" me and I've never in my life dealt with such rude customer service. If you want to be talked down to, discriminated against, lied to your face, put down and overcharged this is definitely the place to go. She was constantly rolling her eyes and bragging about her family owning the place. I've never met anyone so egoistic and full of shit as this lady. She showed every sign of being a complete sociopath. To top it off she quoted a price on a piece of jewelry to the customer before me and when I inquired about the price I was quoted nearly double. Avoid at all costs and definitely Google any item before purchasing because I guarantee you can find it cheaper everywhere else. How this place survived the recession is beyond me. read more

Took two pairs of my favorite earrings in for repair - very expensive in many ways......over 40 dollars to solder a pierced earring post! They destroyed the other earring trying to repair it - they were sincerely unhappy about it and set out to make it right.......it was many months before that happened, which was fine. They asked me to come in and see what they had constructed - it was fine - never going to be the same, but, what else was I going to do. This is now my 2nd visit - went in to pick up the earring on visit number 3 (very inconvenient - find parking - pay for parking.......) Didn't bring my purse on visit number 3, what would I need it for? Oh! The bill! $30.00..... Now, I had previously paid for to have the other earring repaired, but, never thought in a million years that after destroying my earring and having it for months they would be shaking me down. I was shocked, but, they said they would send me a bill....... Got home, tried on the earrings and guess what? The post is set incorrectly - too high, so this heavy earring doesn't match the other and is now pulling my ear down making it unwearable...... Once I received my first bill in the mail, I called and told them about the problem - in hopes that they would leave me alone - I don't want to come back down to the store, (visit number 4) or UPS the earrings back to them, as suggested. I don't have confidence in their ability to fix them and I wouldn't be suprised if they would charge me even more to make it right. They lost me and they should have let it go...... They won't let it go - they have sent me bill after bill after bill - $30 dollars isn't going to make or break either one of us - that is clearly, not the moral to this story. It's about $30 dollars vs. this bad review - one I don't want to write but, feel like I have to. It's about my recently engaged son........guess where we didn't go to look for a ring?? I was visiting Tacoma with my mother for an event in Seattle so we adventured downtown. We LOVE looking at pretty things and LeRoys is full of cool local art, AMAZING loose stones, and unique artist collections of jewelry! We looked around awhile then were approached by a saleswoman. We were very clear that we were just looking but she toured us around the entire store. Explaining what all the stones were, takinh things out of the cases, it was great! She said she enjoyed taking things out and talking about the pieces, it was wonderful that she was so excited about her work and didnt pressure us to buy anything, or ignore us because we werent spending any money. She told us about these Gem Roundtable events they have during the year, gem carvers and artists come to the store for an openhouse/sharecircle. They bring rare stones they have carved, unique works from their own collection and have a show and tell session while the pieces are passed around! Since i dont live in the area I havent gotten to go but it sounds amazing!! I love this place! I plan on having my engagement ring custom made here. Its a special treat that this place is still around for everyone to enjoy. True craftsmanship and care goes into each piece, real old school feeling to the store, low tech at times but pure beauty! read more

My family members have always been pleased with the service and the quality of the workmanship, so when it came time for my fiancee and me to find rings for our marriage this is where we headed. They took excellent care while resizing our antique engagement ring, and worked with us to create a custom wedding band to match it. Throughout the process the service was fantastic, and they were very receptive to our input while designing the ring. When we picked up the finished product, it felt like they had taken us into their family, and they played an important role at the beginnings of our family. We've worked with them on a few pieces now and the only reason I am not awarding 5 stars is because one of the pieces did break and in the process to get it fixed they were a little non-responsive (which happened to be my engagement ring that I was really excited to get back on my finger).They definitely made things right though once we pointed this out. What I love about this place is that they are completely honest. They help you make decisions to get the most of your money and the stones they pick are astonishing quality. They talked me out of getting a bigger but duller diamond and I am so glad. I get so many compliments on how shiny the diamond is. Phyllis and Stefan (spelling?) are the cutest couple ever and they run a great business. We'll definitely be going back for our future pieces. read more

Leroy is a great place to browse...they actually tell you to feel free to handle the artwork. The level of craftsmanship is high, with a range of media...pottery, oil, metal, fabric. It's a great eye candy store. I've bought pieces here as gifts and the staff are so accommodating (one piece had to be carried on a plane so they wrapped and packed it with a handle. perfect!) They are also dedicated to the Tacoma art community, holding receptions, donating items. Can't say enough about their goodwill. read more

Over the years I've been happy with LeRoy's. They are very attentive when you go in to the store but I find it refreshing that they have the time to help me. In other jewelry stores I always seem to have trouble because they are so busy. They helped my husband with a custom ring for me and when something happened to one of the diamonds there wasn't even a question, they handled it immediately. Since they have joined my wedding band and engagement ring, quality soldering work. I now seem to have developed an allergy to my white gold ring and even though the band we purchased is platinum they offered to still take care of both. I had a really bad experience at LeRoy Jewelers. I am a Tacoma native and wanted to have me heirloom engagement ring repaired by a local artisan. I took my 100 year old ring in because the shank had split and I wanted to see if they could make the prongs that held the diamond smaller. I was told that this would be no problem and the repair would be done in 2 weeks. I called at the end of two weeks and I was told it was sitting right on the jewelers bench, it would be done any day now. I called the next week and the next. It took two months for the repair, I actually had to get married WITHOUT my engagement ring. When I finally picked it up, the prongs looked like blobs of molten metal, completely distorting the sides of the diamond and the shank was yellow gold, not white, which did not match my antique ring at all. I had to pay the full price of the repair even though they admitted it took way too long and they couldn't get the gold to match. They told me the gold wouldn't match because the gold was antique. I took it to Carlson jewelers, also in Tacoma and they had the repair done in 48 hours and the gold matches perfectly, the jeweler at Carlson said that should not have been a problem at all. I am overall disappointed because I feel like they had very poor customer service. I never received a phone call from then about the updates on the ring and never even got a call when it was done. I had to initiate everything. They didn't even acknowledge my presence when I first came into the store, I had to walk around and search for someone. Even at the front counter I didn't get a "Be right with you" or a "One moment please." They just ignored me. I would not recommend this jeweler to anyone looking for great service and quality care for your jewelry. read more

This is a Tacoma establishment! Serving as a core business in the downtown Broadway area for years. They are a home town business supporting their community and I LOVE that in a business! I also love their, for lack of the technical terms, fix it or make it room. They have experts on staff that can help you design a custom piece of jewelry. They also do repairs right onsite. And with big windows you can watch the artisians create or repair right there in the store. Having a second business located in the same space is a great use of the expansive and roomy space. I love the local art they feature. This is a go to shop when you want to support going local and supporting the artists in the community. read more

Just in response to Elena, Tacoma (believe it or not) is full of people who like to visit. We are a strange brew of people who enjoy the company of others, to exchange stories, hobbies, idea's, philosophies, etc. Tacoma may be gritty, but at least we like to exchange with other humans on the planet; instead of thinking we are exempt from communication or perhaps lighthearted friendship. The Art Stop/LeRoy's is a staple in downtown Tacoma. Some people go there just to browse and visit about art. Even though it would be wonderful if every person bought something (supporting our local communities) we are realists...if at least you can get a good conversation out of it, then it was a good day. Privacy is important to all of us, enjoying the company you chose for the day is important. It is possible though, that having a conversation with another person might have had a positive influence on the rest of your day in public or private. read more

Steph, You should have called the jewelry store in Portland-- I gave your their card, asked you to do so, and told you they were expecting your call. They would have told you that the crystal fell off because it didn't fit properly, and had just been jammed onto the watch. They also would have told you, if you had chosen to bother to phone them, that my Raymond Weil watch should to be sent to the manufacturer for repair with Raymond Weil parts. You never told me that your store is NOT an authorized dealer for this brand, and that for that reason you could not obtain the proper parts for it. You should never have undertaken to work on this watch, as you didn't know how, and you were unable to get authentic parts for it. I had no way to know that before all of this happened-- it was up to you to be honest and straightforward, which you did not do. A simple phone call to the manufacturer before you tried to work on the watch would have taken care of it; and, failing that, a phone call after you broke it would have explained the problem to you. Instead, you challenge my credibility and try to pin the blame on my husband, who merely looked at the watch under magnification (did you ever take the trouble to do that??), and saw right away that the crystal was the wrong size. At that point, I took it to the store in Portland where I'd bought it. You refunded me only the money I had paid for your lousy workmanship, after questioning my integrity and credibility, which is insulting. You ruined my watch, and dodged responsibility for what you'd done. I had to buy a new watch, for over $400. This is not taking care of the problem. You and your "wife" actually slink past me on the street, your "wife" walking backwards to pretend she doesn't see me! Instead of being defensive and childish, you need to read what I've written, and what Warren C. has written, which sounds a lot like what happened to me; and you need to pay attention to what we have to say. read more
