I make it a practice not to gripe on here about car mechanics unless they do a terrible job. This was. We purchased a 7 year battery from Les Schwab a year ago and it stopped charging. Nick's auto repair in Corvallis checked the battery and clarified that it was not holding a charge, but that it had leaked, requiring them to replace a cable for $120 dollars. We took the car back to Les Schwab, where they refused to honor the warranty, claiming the battery was fine, and taking no responsibility for the damage it had caused. I'm hoping my wife doesn't get stuck on the side of the road now. read more

Ruined 4 Aluminum wheels; no empathy. Brought our pride and joy SUV to get snow tires mounted. When they were mounted, I did a walk around to look over the vehicle (something I do normally with any repair), I could very easily see many deep gouges in the aluminum where some sharp tool was used to remove the balancing weights. Damage is severe - all 4 wheels, maybe 80 scratches total, too many to count. The manager first indicated something like 'this happens..' Which I did not accept. Technicians with typical skills could do this work all day every day and not cause this damage. This was unskilled and/or uncaring work, with the wrong tools, and clearly not inspected by anyone with any standards. The manager quickly said 'we'll make it right' but in such a casual, no-big-deal tone that was infuriating. Had I heard 'Wow, this is terrible. I'm deeply sorry.' it would have sucked less. I was offered that a company from Eugene would fix the wheels. I'm not keen on this, as I can't see how this could be fixed in a reasonable way. Also, given the gross nature of the problem, I have no reason to trust a repair vendor recommended by the same people who did this in the first place and I was a little troubled that the repair people seem to be called into service frequent enough that the name and number were so readily available. The manager did, later on the telephone, apologize somewhat. I'm filing my claim with Les Schwab today. Will update this post. (BTW, we have done snow tire swaps without issue for years at another local place without problems. I have had an absolutely miserable experience with this company in Corvallis. I bought a set of brand new tires about 3 months ago. 2 months later one my tires literally popped a tear through the side wall while pulling into a gas station for fuel. I had to drive home still and so I put a plug in it to get home and took it in the next day to replace the tire under warranty. They said they didn't have the tire but would order it and it would be there in a week. I said that's a little inconvenient but ok it is what it is. I week goes by and I didn't hear from anyone so I brought it back thinking surely they got it. They hadn't, and I guess they never even ordered it. they told me again it would be there in a week this time. Again a week goes by and I don't hear anything so I call and turns out it still wasn't ordered??? they are telling me now its discontinued but they are for sure going to order it this time and it would be there in a week and they'd call me for sure when it's there. I bet you can guess what happened a week later. yep, I STILL don't have the tire and I'm being told again that they for sure are going to order it this time and it will be here in a week. absolutely zero alternatives offered and they say that all they can do is order it and let me know when it arrives. ill never never never ever get tires from les Schwab again and give anyone considering doing so an extreme warning against it. read more

Recently had a bad blow-out on our RV while on vacation. We ended up at LaPine Les Schwab. What a wonderful job they did for us! Friendly fair and prompt service! We had four new tires mounted and balanced as well as bearings packed new seals and brakes adjusted. Done in less than 2 hours and we drove off. The fifth wheel has never pulled so well and we put the brakes to test when someone pulled out in front of us while going 60 mph and they delivered evenly as we avoided a collision with no fishtailing! Just disposed of four moderately used tires (about 15k miles) at Les Schwab (9th St. Corvallis). I had called ahead and described the tires. The counter manager said he would take a look at them. When I arrived, he looked at them and said, they don't have quite enough tread" to be useful (As I had measured with a penny, they were several of mm deeper than the top of Lincoln's head). He then said they could dispose of them for $6. I agreed, and he took two of tires from the trunk while I got the other two from the back seat. As I approached the rack where they were placing them, I heard him reading off the tire size to a co-worker (making me think they may in fact have a use for them)!?! Next he told me that for four tires the disposal cost would be $16. Until now I have always been please with Schwab pricing and service. This interaction seemed less than completely forthcoming. read more

The shop is not up to date on the tire storage program offered at most LS locations. Go in and schedule with them personally to make sure they order the tires and they arrive at the time of the schedule. I did it online and showed up on the scheduled day/time and the friendly folks knew nothing about it. So until they catch up with the tire storage protocol cut 'em some slack and go in. Also, make sure if a LS guy comes to talk to you about expensive fixes they found while changing your tires (and he can do at his shop for $1,000) make sure he's talking to the right car owner. Odd but it happened. In the end I got my snow tires put on but I'm a little nervous about a safe job. Hate to say it. read more

Just finished driving up from 1000+ mile from San Diego and had a mild sharking of the steering wheel at high speed. I call a few shop for help and none could take me in for a simple tire balance. I called Les Schwab and Sam she took my call and said to bring it in and I should be able to just wait for. I explain my concern and Sam wrote me up less than 5 min and the shop took my keys. Within 30 or less my car was done ( all 4 tires rebalanced). The handed me my keys and said your all done and there is NO CHARGE. I was SHOCKED. Talk about customer service. Sam did not have to do that but it was is greatly appreciated and we will return for other tire services in the future. They have earn my business. Thank you Sam! read more

Took my M3 in to get the tires balanced and possibly rotated. I was horrified at their lame excuse of a "shop" and after 5 minutes of watching them deal with customer's vehicles and wheels I would never recommend this place to anyone, ever. I came back a second time to see if maybe I just had a unique experience.. the lady at the front could not have given less of a shit. Congrats, your dirty shop and crappy attitude just lost you a $1000+ sale on some M3 tires I'll be needing soon. read more

After speaking with a gentleman on the phone Thursday to find out if they have the tires we needEd, we let him know we were on the coast and would be heading that way Saturday morning. When we arrived at les schwab they told us it would be an hour and 45 minutes. Ended up being almost 3 hours. We have always done business with Les Schwab's in different states and never had an issue like this. The people were not very friendly, never came To let us know what was taking so long. They charged me over $700 to install two new tires. They were installed improperly and the air leaked out of one of them on the first night. The next day, we had to wait over two hours to have them fix their mistake. It took our whole afternoon and all they offered us to make up for their mistake was a $16 credit on a $713 bill. read more

I dropped my car off right after opening to get my snow tires off, they told me my tires were looking a bit bald but I said to just put them on anyways (was planning to research what tires I wanted to buy), I never got a call from them or anything but I came back about 4 hours later and they hadn't changed my tires. The worker said he wouldn't put my tires on because they were bald despite the fact they weren't even at the tread bar yet. Felt like they were just pressuring me to buy 4 new tires. After being super upset One of the less Schwab Manager is named Greg called me personally, to not only apologize for the inconvenience but they are replacing my brakes for free. They have come to the conclusion that if one break is out that there potentially something wrong with the break from the manufacturer and not my driving. I had a great experience with the Les Schwab team on 9th st! I took my tires in to be rotated and they did that and also diagnosed a small tear in one of my tires that got missed from a separate auto shop safety check up. Their customer service has dramatically increased within the last few years, I would recommend them as well as the 3rd st location. Keep up the great work team! read more

The attitude of the employees was not great. I came in to get my tires replaced, and the mask mandate was to be in effect the next day, a customer was not wearing a mask and coughing all over the place, and it made me feel uncomfortable. When I informed the employees they said they couldn't do anything. There was a general lack of care. I ended up having to come back in to patch a tire that got a nail in it. They patched it up, and 2 days later I ended up with a flat. After talking to another tire store, apparently this can happen, but I was disappointed with my experience. I have always been a devoted Les Schwab customer. I used to go to a small branch in a small town where I got great service, often on-the-house because my family took all of our cars there and in a small town, they just seem to treat you better. When I inherited a 2001 Ford Focus from my parents, I took it into the South Town Corvallis location to get new front brakes. About two months later, I took my car into the 9th st. location to get an estimate on tires and an alignment. The service guy went out to look at my tire size and came back in telling me I needed new front brakes. I told him that this was 100% impossible because I had just had them replaced and had driven less then 5,000 on the new brakes. My car goes through a set of front brakes about every 60k, to 70k miles. He assured me that I had to be mistaken and I informed him that just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I have the memory of a goldfish and after I gave him the warranty information the south town location had given me, he dropped the issue. He gave me a quote for tires and an alignment, but I didn't end up purchasing them there. I still go to the Les Schwab back home, but this one seems to want to scam you if they think you're an easy mark. read more

I bought a full set of tires from this Les Schwab a couple of years ago. This weekend, I had a blowout. I checked the warranty to confirm that yes, these tires had a 45,000 mile warranty and I had only traveled 20,000 miles. According to the warranty, as long as there was a certain amount of wear left, I should get a prorated replacement. I asked them to confirm the warranty before I would hand over my keys, and they instantly started hemming and hawing. They accused me of buying my rear tires at a different time than the front tires, because they were less worn. I still had my sales receipt showing they were all purchased at the same time. Then, they accused me of not ever rotating the tires. I still had my printout showing that they have been rotated a couple times since purchasing them. Finally, they said my alignment was out of whack, and they would not honor the warranty. I got in my car and drove to another shop that has always served me well. They said they've had other castoffs from Les Schwab. Wish I'd known that before buying from them in the first place. I will certainly never go back. read more

Definitely the worst Les Schwab store we've been to. We went in for a truck battery, and since we were there we figured we'd get a tire rotation. It was $25 for the tire rotation since our tires were purchased elsewhere. I remember only paying $10 at a Schwab's in Eugene before. Anyway, the lady said it'd only be an hour so we decided to wait. We kept seeing customers come in long after us getting serviced first. The crew didn't take our truck back until an hour and forty five minutes later! We were at the store for two hours! If we knew it was going to take that long we would've installed our own battery and would not have had to pay the $10 installation fee; which the customer service gal forgot to mention. We also would have waited on the tire rotation and saved $25 by going to the place where we purchased the tires. We definitely won't be returning to this location unless it's an emergency. There are plenty of other Les Schwab locations that have far better customer service and shorter wait times. read more

Is Les Schwab really stooping to the cliche of trying to taking advantage of someone because they're a woman? My family has been devoted Les Schwab customers my entire life and I have always felt comfortable even as a young college student in getting reliable quotes and services without being overcharged or swindled into unnecessary repairs. Two weeks ago I went to the Les Schwab on 9th St in Corvallis to get my tires checked out because my car was wobbling quite a bit while driving. One of the employees went out to check on my car and shortly thereafter came back to tell me one of my tires was falling apart and could go flat at any moment. My only option? Buying a new set of tires because it couldn't be fixed, and you can't just buy one. Since I own the car with my boyfriend I wanted to talk to him about it before making any big purchases, and I asked the employee if he thought I could at least drive home 2-3 miles away. He didn't recommend it, but I left anyways. My boyfriend didn't quite believe what the Les Schwab employee said, and suggested they were trying to pull one over on me because I'm a girl, which I thought had to be ridiculous. People still do that? Sure enough, he took my car in to the exact same Les Schwab on 9th street, told them the exact same thing I did about what the car was doing (without mentioning my prior visit). They pulled the car into the garage, rotated and balanced the tires for free, handed him the keys and said he was good to go. No tires falling apart, no need for new tires at all. Before two weeks ago I would've told you Les Schwab is a reliable place that won't try to take advantage of you based on gender. Now I sadly can't say that, and would never recommend anyone to go to the 9th street location. read more

Attempted Fraud After getting a PreTrip Safety Check they told me that my battery was dead and needed to be replaced. They tried to charge me $151 dollars for a new battery. The original battery was only 1 year old and I had no issues with my vehicle starting up. So I had my battery checked at a nearby mechanic and it tested good. Plus you can go to nearly any other auto shop and get a new battery for 1/2 the price. I'm certain they are just trying to meet commission quotas and will NEVER go back to a Les Schwabs anywhere. read more

I've been buying tires from Les Schwab since I started owning cars and I've recently lost faith. Three issues have come up for me - 1) I drive an Audi allroad and I know the car is heavy in the front end and is hard on tires. I noticed that my tires were wearing down and asked my partner, Bonnie, to take the car in for evaluation and what the credit might be towards a new set under the Les Schwab warranty. She was told that, based on the wear and the mileage, there would be a $600 credit towards a new set of tires. Imagine my surprise when I took the car in for that new set, that I was told that here was no warranty coverage because the car was out of alignment and that caused premature wear on the tires. The new tires cost me over $1000. Moral of this story - have a cute blond woman take your car in for new tires. She'll probably get a better deal than you will as a man. 2) Not wanting to have the same problem with a new set of tires, I took the car to an alignment shop and asked them to check the alignment. They checked all the adjustments and reported back they did not find any adjustment necessary - everything was withing specs. The best part of this was that they refused to charge for the alignment check. I told them the reason for my having brought the car to them and they rolled their eyes. Apparently they get a lot of referrals from Les Schwab about misalignment issues that do not exist. Lesson learned - don't believe Les Schwab if they claim you have an alignment issue. BUT WAIT - IT GET'S WORSE...! 3) - I took the car to my regular mechanic & shared the above stories. The mechanic reported back that he had gone to bat for customers with high-end European cars who, at Les Schwab's suggestion, had alignments performed by Les Schwab. It turns out that Les Schwab does not have the necessary equipment to do alignments on Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, etc. My mechanic had called Les Schwab, pointed out that they were charging for services they could not provide and got refunds for his customers. You can bet that I am going to be hounding Les Schwab about the wear on this set of tires and asking for written confirmation at every tire rotation that they are not seeing signs of tire wear due to misalignment. Don't let these guys blow you any smoke. read more

Strike two. I went in this afternoon to get my snow tires swapped out. The counter rep told me 45 minutes and that seemed very reasonable. An hour and 15 minutes later my car hadn't moved and other people who came in after me were leaving with their work completed. I went up to the counter and asked a different rep how much longer the wait would be. He ran out to check and magically, someone jumped in my car and drove it to the service bay. The counter rep came back in and told me it would be about 15 more minutes. Needless to say, 15 minutes was really 30 minutes. This is the second time LS has way underestimated my wait time. What made me annoyed this time was the lack of any communication they were running behind and NO ONE offered any kind of apology for the hour plus additional wait time. Seems like the attention to customer service is valued less than it has been in the past. I will go elsewhere next time. read more

The location officially closes at 6:00 in the evening, but I showed up at 6:05 because my brakes were making grinding noises. The place was busy, but after twenty minutes, they said my brakes needed replaced and they could do it then and there in thirty minutes. I was awestruck by their go get em attitude, and when I told them I felt bad for making them go after closing time, they just said "we're here for you", which seems to be the company motto. Went to Les Schwab with a flat today. The customer service is excellent! I am car dumb, even about tires, but they were willing to explain my options to me and work out what would be the best replacement for our car. The wait wasn't bad and my son loved the popcorn while I was all over the free coffee and hot chocolate. They even put my spare tire back in the right place when they were done! They do not come fill your flat for free like the other reviewer mentioned. I was told it would be a 40 dollar charge just to get their truck to me, I was less than a mile away. Changing a flat was no big deal, I called just to see how much it would cost then decided to do it myself. Would have been worth it if I hadn't have been able to and I might use that in the future! I've stopped by before for a tire pressure check and air fill-up which they did for free. Took only a few minutes and we were off and running. I definitely recommend this Les Schwab! read more

Amazing customer service and a truly professional and kind staff! I'd never been to a Les Schwab before yesterday. I knew them as a sponsor of events at the non profit where I used to work so when I needed to have my tire patched, I chose them over the many other choices in Corvallis. I found that my tire was flat near the end of my work day and after the wonderful Subaru Roadside Assistance tow truck driver filled my tire with enough air to get me to the repair shop, it was already almost 5:30pm. There was a long line of people waiting for their cars and the nice man at the desk said that there would be at least a two-hour wait - the problem was that they were only going to be open for another hour and half. What to do??? One of the technician's looked at the tire and explained that there was a nail stuck in it and that it would need to be patched - a simple job. I gave him my best "please, please, pretty please" look and he took pity on me and said that he could squeeze me in and have the tire done by the time they closed. I was so relieved. I passed the time at the gym and when I came back to pick up my car, I went to the desk to pay and the technician said that there was no charge. NO CHARGE! I guess most Oregonians know that this is standard practice at Les Schwab but I had no idea. I expected to pay and was shocked and thrilled when I learned the service was free. I would gladly have paid for the service I received and extra for them to fit me in the way they did. Thank you, Les Schwab!! read more

I've had an intermittent low tire pressure on one of my tires in last 2 months. I've gone to les schwab 6 times in SE Portland, Oregon and in Corvallis. The thoroughness of one employee at NW Corvallis Oregon found the problem. I'm about to take a long driving trip and was nervous about this problem. The really expensive chrome Les Schwab wheels on my 2004 Avalon have failed. They won't hold air, I have to add air every 5-7 days. Their failed chrome wheels are a liabilty and not safe. I have been to this location twice and both times there has something "wrong" with my car during a repair. The first time I went to get my front brakes replaced I was told that my brand new rotors were too thin to grind down and I would have to buy new ones or else they wouldn't put the brakes on my car. Rather than argue with them I let them do it. The second time when I was getting the rear brakes done I was told that there was a rusty bolt on one of my rear wheels and that I couldn't have my brakes replaced without replacing the whole rear axel (an extra $100). Skeptical, I started arguing with the guy on the phone and asked couldn't we just put a new bolt on instead of replacing the whole axel? He tried his best to persuade me but I had had enough. I told them to put my car back together and I would come pick it up. The same day I drove my car to Wilsonville and had the brakes replaced at another les schwab with no problem. Go to 3rd street. I've never actually been there but there's no way it can be worse. read more

We have been buying our tires from Les Schwab for years and they have always been fine. Recently I got a flat on a tire that wasn't ancient. I took it to Les Schwab figuring, oh well they will try to sell me a new tire because after all they are in the business of selling tires. Pleasant surprise! The tire had been punctured by a nail and they patched it and put it back on in about 20 minutes while I nommed out on popcorn, and told me it was probably good until at least summer, at NO CHARGE!
