This review is specifically for Dr. Fluellen's office staff--while she is an absolutely incredible…read moredoctor, I can't recommend seeing her because of multiple experiences I've had with her staff. 1) Shortly before giving birth last April, my BP was high and I was in danger of getting preeclampsia. After a routine office visit, her staff failed to call and let me know that my BP was high, and Dr. Fluellen called me the following day (Saturday AM), apologizing on their behalf and asking me to go to the ER to get checked out immediately. 2) I'm currently 11 months PP and have been struggling with PP depression; Dr Fluellen and I discussed going on medication, but she gave birth shortly after me, and has been on maternity leave ever since. Another doctor in her practice, Dr. Morikawa, prescribed me an SSRI, but failed to write it for the correct amount or provide me with any refills. I've been without medication for 3 days now, and despite calling the office multiple times, leaving messages on their machine and with their answering service, I've received no response back. At this point, I feel it would negligent to recommend seeing anyone in their practice, since both instances could have resulted in serious health repercussions on my end, and unfortunately I'll be looking for a different doctor to see from now on.

After 20 minutes of waiting, I asked Nancy if she was even in the office or called away on emergency!? She stated she's in the office just running behind. There are 7-8 people ahead of me. Umm, you didn't want to alert me of that upon checking in. Nancy just gave me an awkward smile. I was called in by Jocelyn "medical assistant" at 10:40a & she did her intake & walked me to the room. You would think the Dr. Kimball would've came in shortly thereafter. Absolutely not. I walked out & asked Jocelyn if she was aware I'm in the room!? Her response, oh yes, she is running behind. You failed to tell me that as you walked me to the room just sit there & look out the window. Finally, Dr. Kimball walks in as if she's early & greets me. I asked her you don't have an emergency phone call like our last appointment!? Oh no, we are fine. I explained to her how she never followed up with me re: my labs & etc and what's the next steps behind my women's wellness care. Instantly, I knew she wasn't really listening to me & was somewhat dismissive. I asked her what's the next steps were & she told me I don't do that exactly, I refer out. Excuse me, Dr. Kimball during my prior 3 visits, you told me this is what you do & we will work together for a plan of action. Talk about the bait & switch. In this appointment, I found myself advocating for myself like never before. The more she talked & stated she didn't know too many Doctors in the South Bay community due to her being with them for a short timeframe (3 years). Not only did we waste 1 another time, but she lied to me, stating she was fully knowledgeable behind this matter. I received 0 comprehensive care from her. A medical disappointment. Moving forward, her "Dr.Kimball" front desk receptionist "Nancy, Christina & Maribel: office manager;" do better on the information given to patients on her lacking a broad expertise; outside of labor & delivery. I was checking out & Maribel "office manager" was heavily fixated on our "Nancy & I" mini conversation. Maribel tells me she's been in the field for years & well versed in the medical field. Like, lady what are you talking about & stop being nosey. Keep in mind that she has no medical credentials behind her name. With all of this happening in 1 day, this office is unprofessional & can be unprofessional by themselves. Again, please advocate for yourself & stop letting doctors such as Dr. Kimball think this is acceptable medical care/behavior.

Go anywhere else if you can. I was excited and anxious as a first time mom for my 20 week scan. I can excuse the long wait, the overcrowded wait room, the transfer of us to a gastroenterologist's office down the hall because there were not enough rooms. I understand that there are a lot of patients and only so much medical staff and doctors. All of those items are fine. I cannot excuse the piss poor communication from this office. First, our ultrasound was done by a tech who truly could not have been more unenthusiastic and disinterested. She seemed bored, and annoyed by her job. She was largely silent and didn't explain what she was doing or what we should be looking for. I left the appointment not understanding anything I had seen. I understand having a bad day (I hope this isn't her normal personality because if it is, yikes.) Personally, my husband works in a stressful field with a lot of death and emergencies. He works overnights often. I cannot imagine him ever treating a patient this way. A bad day is not an excuse. It has now been 3 days since my scan. I have not heard from anyone, much less a doctor. Is my baby normal? Whether he is or isn't, it is apparently not a priority to let me know. Leaving pregnant women, already anxious, completely in the dark is not acceptable. I've spoken to my friends who have recently had children. Their experiences with their anatomy scans have been a 180 from mine. All said they had techs that walked them through each step and answered questions, some even had the scans from the doctors themselves (I understand why that's not always doable, and I don't expect that). So, I'd seek out your anatomy scan elsewhere if at all possible. Is the doctor good? Probably. After 2 scans (12 & 20 week) I've never heard from him or met him. And I will say that nurse practitioner April, who walked through my first scan with me is wonderful, knowledgeable, and kind. But the more I think back on my scan, the more upsetting and frustrating it is for something so important and special to have gone the way it did and to still be totally in the dark as to the results.

She has a very straight-forward style and I appreciate her candor in answering all my questions. The online portal from Modern Women's Care was also very useful to view my visit care summaries, get test results, and to get and answer any questions I had online. Only negative is that sometimes there was a bit of a wait to be seen for each appointment.

We called the doctor's office to mention that we would be 15 mins late and were told immediately that we need to reschedule the appointment. As someone who has a history of endocervical polyps, she mentioned how she can easily remove a polyp that she saw through a consult but wanted to wait until the pregnancy progressed, which was fine. Few weeks later, I experienced my second miscarriage, and I called after my d&c to schedule a polypectomy. I'm told that I have to have another consult THEN schedule another appointment to remove the polyp, which she had mentioned would be easy and quick to remove at the same appointment. It's hard enough going through multiple miscarriages, but having a doctor who promises something and then changes what they say is not a pleasant experience. Also, as others have mentioned, their front office staff is terrible. I've never met more inconsiderate, rude, and curt office staff, especially for obgyn! The front desk in a medical office is the face of the doctor, and theirs reflects the treatment you'll get here. I don't mind if the dr isn't sweet as long as they're good at what they do, but don't make an appt if you can't handle harsh environments.

I found her on the Torrance Memorial website and took a chance. Best thing I did. From the moment I met her I knew she was the right doctor for me. She is kind, caring, knowledgeable and personable. While I was pregnant, I was uncomfortable and had a few issues but I looked forward to my appointments. After seeing and speaking with her I would leave feeling relaxed and happy. The office staff, Liz (I think that's her name) and Melissa are friendly and remembered me by name every time I walked through the door. Dr Barhaghi was at the hospital for my delivery in a flash and put me at ease. She also came to check on me and meet my baby the next morning. I appreciated seeing her. I feel so negatively about my experience that I need to leave a review despite my visit being a few years ago. I visited for my annual well woman exam, and I also wanted to discuss sterilization. She was immediately dismissive, saying I might change my mind if I met the right person, and I was too young (I was in my mid 30s at this point) - I didn't even get to discuss why I wanted to, and that I had already done extensive research on the pros/cons. I dropped the subject because it was clear she was against it. She was very rough during my exam and pap smear, and there was some bleeding afterwards, which I've never experienced, and when I commented on it, she said it was expected, threw a pad on the table, and left. I have since been to my current ob/gyns who was happy to discuss sterilization with me, and is very gentle during their exams.
