The good news: Pleasant place, lots of stuff to look at, decent help, national presence. The bad news: Their motto seems to be "If you need it, we don't have it." I can't tell you the time I've wasted looking for stuff that they should have only to be told it's discontinued, will have to be ordered, we don't carry it any more, etc. I've had much better luck at the mom and pop pool places for parts, etc. Today I went in to buy some algaecide only to be told by a manager from another store: "It should be right here!" Shockingly incompetent businesspeople. Looks like I'm not the first to think so, either. Purchased a $15 leaf net not too long ago. Ok, it's the cheapest such net on the shelf I get that. However, I used the net maybe a dozen times before the plastic rim holding the net to the aluminum frame disintegrated. I walked into the Poway store asking to exchange it. Salesperson does a good job to upsell me to the $32 version which I was fully prepared to buy. However, in no way would he give me a credit for the broken net. 'No warranty' he claimed. In the end, Jeff told me to try my luck at other stores. I think I will. Bottom line: go to Leslie's to learn a few things about pools, but PLEASE, buy your products elsewhere (like Home Depot or Costco who offer OUTSTANDING return policies and are much more competitive to boot) read more

While looking for a newer, more energy efficient pool pump we went to Leslie's. We told them in the store and during the site visit we wanted them to let us know of any parts that needing replacement. Leslie's installed the new pump and it worked well. 2 days later we went out of town for a couple of days. We came back to find the water in the pool extremely low, only to find water spraying out of one of the connections to the pump. We spoke to Jeff at the Poway store. He didn't act surprised or apologetic, but would send out a technician. Came home to a bill for a service call and a replaced connection. Also came home to a flooded back yard because the water was left running in the pool for 4 hours. Jeff, manager at Poway store, responded it was just coincidence the part broke when the pump was connected. He said it was old and cracked. Didn't respond to our comment that we asked twice to be informed if anything else needing to be replaced during initial assessment. Said he would check, but he doubted if technician left water running. Went to the store to try to get a better response. Eric was pretty unresponsive and agreed that was too bad about the water! THANK YOU to the technician who did call later and apologized for leaving the water running. Other than the technician, this store has no concept of customer service or how to do service recovery. Have already told many friends who use this store and will be taking business elsewhere. read more

They really need a numbering or appointment system. Service is sooo slow. All it takes is one or two people in front of you and you can easily wait 20-30 minutes for help. read more

Again, Leslies in Poway provided the worst service I have ever received. After waiting a few minutes for two store manager type employees to open at 9am this morning, neither of them greeted me when I walked in. When I checked out, the employee named Bob couldn't find the common courtesy to say thank you to his first customer of the day. What's wrong with you people? read more

I go to Leslie's primarily to purchase different chemicals. The service is generally good depending on the service person and whether it is busy or not. Just hope you don't get behind someone that is having their water tested because it takes a good 10 minutes and this particularly disturbing if you're in a rush for some liquid chlorine. I bought a vacuum there and then one day the treads on the vacuum stopped circulating. I brought it in to be serviced and was told there wasn't anything wrong with it. A month later I have changed O rings, cleaned the pump, etc. etc. and still can't get the damn thing to work properly. In frustration I hired a guy from a pool service. He walked over to the vacuum and stated that the vacuum had a gear that wasn't working. I told him that couldn't be because the vacuum had been checked by a technician at Leslie's. He begrudgingly checked every conceivable orifice to see if an air leak might be the problem. Bottom line, he repeated his prognosis, the vacuum needed to be fixed. In frustration I bring it in to Leslie's and I am told by the same technician it needs a new gear. An hour later the gear is installed. The time spent on this was inconceivable knowing the technician could have fixed this while I waited. I have decided to get a pool service. read more

Very poor customer service! Dropped off my pool vac to be repaired last Friday and was told they would call me with an estimate on Monday. Today is Wednesday, and since I hadn't heard from them I called. I was told the repair guy has been out and the assistant manager was supposed to call everyone and tell them that they can't repair it right now. I received no call what so ever. They now suggest I take it to their Mira Mesa location or their Escondido location. But, they should have called me. There is no excuse for that. No way to run a business. Customer service should be job one! It's not. read more

Despite having a quite a few people ahead of me, as I observed him, Jeff the store manager gave the customers the attention and advice they were asking for and professionally concluded the transaction and disengaged. He was mindful that there were others waiting for him but didn't make the person he was serving feel rushed...you can tell he is very good at his position and I appreciated the advice he gave me...it worked. read more

Zero should be an option for the rating system. These guys would qualify big time! Had an appointment with these guys to get a quote on a new filter and their tech was sick. They gave me a courtesy call to say that they would be in touch to reschedule. That was about a year ago...still no call. I have since purchased a new filter and heater with the help of a great company call "Clear Expectations." read more

I would have gave them zero stars but that wasn't and option. I needed a pump replaced for my pool. My pool guy quoted me a price which I felt was a little high. So I went to Leslie's pool. I spoke to Jeff who was very helpful and gave me an estimate, which (on the surface was better) than my pool guy. I spoke to my pool guy and he said watch out for Leslie's they will throw in extra charges! Knowing this going in I was OK with it. Jeff then said we need a tech to come out and look at the system, said there "MIGHT" be an extra piece so the pump and the panel can communicate. He didn't give me the price on it, because he doesn't sell a lot of those. Based on his explanation of my pool he didn't think it would be necessary. The teach came out and looked at the pool. He said the pump would need the extra piece and it was about four hundred dollars extra, but there was another pump for the same price. I said great lets do it with that pump. I left came back and got the estimate was the same as the first one, but in a separate pen an additional charge of 95.00 dollars, was added on for a valve they for got to add. I looked around and priced out the pump and valve which Leslie's had the HIGHEST prices. I call Jeff back and asked him about it. His explanation was over head! I asked him if he could do it for less the $95, he said have the tech call when he got there. I had the tech call. Tech came back and said the district manager wouldn't do it, for the original price. The old bait and switch!!!! I would not recommend the to anyone!!! lost a customer for life, I won't even buy products there now. I should have trusted my reputable pool guy!!! read more
