John Wisnewski was great from the first phone call, for a chimney sweep, to the follow-up repair of the crown. My entire interaction with John was extremely professional and courteous and I don't think I could have asked for a better service. When I initially called Let There Be Light John told me that we were about 3-4 weeks out from his busy season and that I should schedule soon to get the cleaning done before the rush. Long story short John was out two days later to sweep and at that time he identified significant damage to the crown of the chimney, which was causing blowout of the pointing. John thoroughly explained the entire process, as well as the results of the damage, and recommended a fix. The recommended fix included him removing the loose mortar, repairing the mortar then applying a membrane that would seal the crown (PMP I believe). I accepted John's estimate, very reasonable in my opinion, and gave him the green light. He gave me a call the next day and immediately put me on the schedule to beat some forecasted rain the following week. To me that shows that John is not only a good tradesman but also was looking out for my best interest. John also followed up the job by sending me a number of before & after pics, which demonstrated the work done (again very timely). All in all I would not hesitate to have John perform more work on my house or recommend him to anyone else. In other news John is an interesting conversationalist that will keep you entertained and informed throughout the process. Also if you ask he might just show you how to hit a golf ball straight. John is the most pleasant worker you'll ever have in your home. He's a down to earth guy, who's friendly and obviously enjoys what he does. He came to do a level 2 inspection the day before we were to have propane logs put in. It was around the holidays and everyone was busy. So was John, but I guess he heard the desperation in my voice, so said he could probably "swing by". What a life saver!! He covered the whole area of the living room to keep it clean, and explained everything he was doing as he went. He made a wonderful suggestion to me that I should paint the interior of the fireplace black - that the fire would stand out more and look 10 times better. (using high heat resistant paint) The next day when the guys came to put in the propane logs, they were VERY impressed that I'd thought to paint the fireplace. They all admitted that yes - black really does look so much better than the dirty white/gray that it was before. I thought of taking credit for the idea myself, but, out of guilt, I did tell them that it was John's suggestion. I will recommend John to any of my friends who need chimney care. It is quite rare to have an experience such as the one I had with John. Upon arrival, his professionalism and courtesy were immediately noticeable. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and highlighted a few serious risks that could have inadvertently caused issues down the road. He offered to repair those on the spot and did so with utmost care to keep the aesthetics in place. My first YELP!! Great choice don't even look elsewhere. I needed a sweep for my daughters new but (1960) rental house (helping the landlord with his punch list!) I highly recommend using their service. I chose to wait a little longer for the appointment because of the wonderful customer service I received on the phone and the price. I also wanted to use a local service which is the reason why I used Yelp in the first place. Plenty of call ahead service and my daughter said John was super nice. His report was very detailed and his documented report/invoice was something that I can send to the landlord that will explain everything in detail what he did and the structure status of the chimney (in our case). The SAFEST but sad news is John determined that the chimney is unusable....and *DANGER* is written on the report. This is the reason you should always have chimneys swept!! (Okay, so some of them are groaners, but this guy really does have a sense of humor!) On the day of my appointment, John arrived promptly, carefully covered everything in my family room for protection and proceeded to do a really thorough cleaning and inspection of my fireplace and chimney. His recommendations for masonry repairs to my chimney will likely save me a lot of grief in the future. I called Let There Be Light to get some chimney caps installed after having a raccoon problem. Before I even set up the appointment, John spent 30 minutes talking about my situation and giving me tips on how to clean up the chimney prior to the cap install. John calls back after leaving messages, and was able to come out within a week for the install, which was better than other companies I checked with. I'm totally satisfied with his service. He takes the time to explain all of the details about your chimney, so I recommend leaving a bit of extra time when he comes (or let him know if you're on a schedule). I was able to schedule an appointment for the following week, which was about a month ago. He was very knowledgeable and informative. I greatly appreciated him coming into my home. John recently serviced the fire place in our home and I couldn't be more pleased with his professionalism and personality. Prior to arriving at my house he gave me a call just to let me know he was on his way since it was an early appointment. This service seemed to be great. John repaired cracks on the top of my chimney and the pictures he showed me indicated that the work was well done. He sold me a water repellant treatment that was pricey but since I'm selling my house and there was evidence of water penetration into the chimney, I assume it was necessary. My only problem was that what others have noted on here as his "entertaining" personality got on my nerves a little. He spent almost as much time telling me stories as he did working. Not only that, but some of his comments were political and one made fun of Japanese people and my daughters are half Japanese. I've had serious issues with my fireplace that has a wood burning stove insert. It smoked up the entire house -- but not all the time; it seemed to happen randomly. But definitely not fun.
