I was in town for a bachelorette party and there were actually multiple trips to the Leucadia Donut Shoppe during our weekend! One was as part of a scavenger hunt, we had to go take a picture by the beautiful mural on the outside of the shop. The other was to pick up donuts to have for breakfast one morning! They have a wide variety of different donut flavors to choose from. Our group got a couple boxes, so we got to try several of the flavors! Everyone really liked the donuts and getting to try so many different kinds. I did not get to witness the service or what the line was like since I was not the one to go pick it up, but I can give them a solid review based on the quality of their donuts and how cute their shop is! I think Leucadia's donuts might be the best I have ever had! That's saying a lot as I have tried a lot of donuts. We waited in line fir donut on a Saturday morning. There was a short line of eager customers consisting of mostly kids with their parents :) When we reached the counter, the ordering process was quick. "One glazed donut...and one sugar donut, please." "Oh, good. I'm glad you decided to get your wife a donut too." The owner had jokes. There were several donut flavors to pick from and the owners were patient and friendly. Besides the donut being absolutely hands down delicious, the price was around a dollar per donut making it affordable as well. I would come back here anytime! I miss these donuts! read more

Different donuts demand different reviews. I've been coming to Leucadia Donuts on and off for 25 years. When I was a bit younger, it was one of several must goes after a surf session at Beacon's or Grandview. So there was a romantic, post-sesh carb load quality associated with my patronage, like an açaí bowl from Nectarine or a California burrito from La Especial. But as I'm in the water less and less, the romance has paled a bit. The donuts here are OK. The hours are and always have been limited. Basically, it's charm lays in its funky premises, the quirky clientele and its great owners. In that sense, it remains an important part of a Leucadia that is slowly giving way to the new Encinitan glitterati. The truth, however, is that while they do perfectly sound commercial kitchen quality pastries, there's nothing too special about their offerings. If you're in the neighborhood, LDS is convenient, but I'd never consider it a primary donut destination. read more

This place has all of my fave donuts. All the classics are done extremely well, nothing is overly sweet and they've got the best apple fritters. Cash only is the only caveat but most legit donut shops are like that. Highly recommend you get there early as all the good ones go quick. read more

Timing is everything The locals knows this place has some of the best doughnuts on the block so the earlier you can get there the better. The first time we arrived there were only a few doughnuts which let me know the locals flocked like locusts The next day as we headed back to Arizona we stopped by at 6am and everything was there. Stopped by for some donuts the other day. They were just alright. I got a crumb donut and a buttermilk bar for myself, and some chocolate long johns for my wife and kids. I ate my crumb donut first, and it coated and filled my mouth with an oily texture (never good). Would not get again. I had my buttermilk bar next, and this was at least good. Crispy on the outside, nice and "cakey" on the inside. Not oily at all, either (not sure what was up with that crumb donut). Really good buttermilk bar. Kids and wife said their donut was just ok. Such an incredible local donut shop with the nicest owner!! Stopped in this morning and went to town trying different donuts. My favorites were 1) the buttermilk donut (sweet crunchy exterior, moist but firm and delicious interior, not sickeningly sweet), 2) the apple fritter (chock full of apple and nice and crispy but VERY sweet, can only eat a small amount at a time), and 3) the maple donut or any of the soft doughy ones. I didn't love the smaller firm ones as much as these three. Certainly will be a staple in our favorite Encinitas spots! read more

I wish I could make this 4.5 stars! We came and bought 4 dozen donuts for our group camp site at the state park about 4 miles away. The staff was super friendly, helped us right away, and quickly put together 4 good dozen boxes. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is that 4 dozen donuts was ~$98, or almost $25/dozen. They are good donuts, but that is a pretty steep price. Also, I respect a cash-focused business, and I brought cash, but cash only is hard in this day and age. The owner of my company gave me a giant glazed doughnut from here and my coworker complained that I was the only one that got one, so he bought two dozen for the entire office the next morning. Besides the glazed donut from the day before, I also had a chocolate one, which was really good and seemed bigger in size than at other doughnut shops. I am a gal that surely appreciates a good ole tasty donut.. This mom n pop donut shop makes up some darn tasty gorgeous donuts. On the weekend, don't be deterred by the line that snakes out the door. Leucadia is a very upscale, affluent town north of San Diego and this donut shop is very out of place. The property is very run down with crappy plastic furniture and the small shop is dingy and dirty. They still manage to charge Leucadia prices though. My donut was stale and tasted like cardboard. True, there are really great donut shops in San Diego and LA. I have been to several of them so on my scale this is the worst but could pass for average in say Cleveland. Note: This shop got 2 stars instead of one because the PCH location and town is nice, not the dumpy store. Not recommended. read more
