The cookies are approximately 3 "normal-sized" cookies and are more soft rather than brittle or chewy. The only thing I would change is sprinkling some salt on top as they can get a bit sweet towards the end. I preferred the chocolate peanut butter over the traditional chocolate chip. I couldn't tell any difference between the Boston and NY branches in terms of quality. Parking is pretty limited. Don't be intimidated by the long line--there were 20ish people ahead of me and I still got my cookies in 15 min. read more

This famous NYC bakery just opened up here in Boston. The line wasn't bad, I waited about 10 minutes and service was super fast. The cookies were really delicious and fresh. I tried the dark chocolate, the chocolate chip walnut, and the two chip cookies. The walnut was definitely my favorite doughy/ gooey in the center and not too sweet compared to the other two. I recently saw a segment on Chronicle on TV about this bakery that was started by 2 women in NYC. They have recently opened a new location in Boston. I had placed an order online and I can't say enough how deliciously huge these cookies are. The TV segment showed they begin as 6 oz. dough balls that make the center gooey and edges chewy. I received my shipment in 2 days and a variety pack selection. They are pricey at $4.50 each but as a specialty cookie well worth the price! Heating them as directed makes them taste like fresh out of the oven, they are baked fresh prior to shipping. If you want a treat I recommend you order some or go to the Newbury St. Location. Finally after years of hearing how good Levain cookies are, they've come to Boston!!! Came by during opening weekend and these cookies do not disappoint - they are worth every bit of hype they get. THE COOKIES: I got two chocolate chip walnut and two dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookies. They're as I was hoping/expected and more. A nice crisp crust with a very soft and cakey center. Each bite is just wow. THE SERVICE: Super quick. The date of this review was on opening weekend and while there was a line, it moved quickly. The staff are friendly and they were able to answer any questions I had. THE PRICE: I'll admit, I've gotten a half dozen giant donuts for cheaper. Sitting at $4.50/cookie this is typical pricing from Levain bakeries. Multiply that for a box of 4 and that's a little over $19 (including tax). These cookies were about the size of my fist but they are DENSE. Personally, for a quick snack or a treat to be brought home, I'd say it's worth since you can't really find a duplicate elsewhere unless you want to attempt to make it at home. VERDICT: To me, it was worth every bite. If I'm on Newbury and want a snack, I'm going for it. Is it worth it to go out of my way for these cookies? As much as I would love to go to NYC for them, I'm so glad Levain opened on Newbury St. Of course, I had to get the classic--the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie--and I highly recommend this if you're just looking for an ultra-comforting, classic chocolate chip cookie. But, the addition of the walnuts adds texture and elevates a classic. Not only are they generous with the portions, but also with chocolate and walnuts. When eaten fresh, the chocolate is perfectly melted and gooey, and the cookie is still slightly warm (perfect for a cold winter day in Boston)! They're very sweet and decadent, but it's the perfect once-in-a-while treat that everyone must try at least once. Definitely coming back to try the other flavors! We also got the Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf Cake which was just as good as the cookies! It was soft, moist, and had the perfect amount of chocolate in it. If you're interested in getting something besides the cookies, I highly recommend this (and all of the other baked goods look amazing as well)! There's a location in NYC and in Boston. So, we came here during an off peak time and ordered their chocolate chip and walnut cookie and their dark chocolate with chocolate chips cookie to share. These cookies were rich and substantial. We still had cookie leftover for a couple of days. Both of these cookies were flavorful. The dark chocolate cookie was more like a rich brownie and was quite sweet. The chocolate chip cookie with walnuts was my favorite. It had a slight crunch on the outside, and a moist on the inside. The walnuts really helped cut the sweetness from the cookie and chocolate chips. Overall, these were quality cookies. Let me preface this by saying, I'm from the NY area. The cookies at this Back Bay location definitely do not taste exactly the same. Nothing compares to the OG location of Levain. However, the cookies are still solid here. I think they looked a bit bigger here? Definitely chewier (but not in a good way). Otherwise, this is in a good location; it smells absolutely divine inside; way more spacious than some of the NY locations too (stilll no seating available though). I asked him what are his favorites were. He didn't hesitate to say the chocolate chip. Then I asked his second favorite. He hesitated and expressed that oatmeal raisin isn't normally his favorite cookie but their cookie changed his mind. So I bought his favorites and then I got curious about the other flavors. So I purchased all four.. I had to wait a couple minutes so they can box my cookies up. I decided to wait outside and a young girl with short blonde hair offered to get the cookies for me. Love the service! The flavor So I broke off little piece of each cookie for 3 days. I could not eat them all in one sitting. The guilt would like me They were amazing! Rich but not too decadent. The prices are pretty on par with bakery items in Boston and the cookies are massive. I have only tried the chocolate chip with walnut so far. It was extremely sweet. The texture is fine and all but it was too sweet for me, even paired with milk. At first I thought I just got a bite with a lot of chocolate, but every bite was very, very sweet.
