Levant is one of my favorite new spots, and a great addition to the neighborhood. The feteer game is stronger than ever. First off the place is so cute, it's a long narrow restaurant with a good amount of seating, and you can watch them make and bake the feteer fresh to order. The people are so nice there and the food was DELICIOUS I do recommend setting aside some time or calling ahead if you can since it can take around 20 minutes to assemble this delicious creation. Get the mixed meat one and you will not be disappointed. The melty, gooey cheese runs throughout the large hefty chunks of meat sandwiched within this rich, delicious bread that keeps it all together. I ate the whole thing myself in a day. Came here for my birthday dinner celebration with friends. We ordered a few platters with rice & meats with hummus, eggplant,fries & a shawarma feteer. The platters were all delicious and the servings are big. It was my first time trying fetter and I heard that this place has the best and it did not disappoint! Excellent hospitality and ambient, you feel right at home here and are treated as so. I went here a good while ago as can be seen from Andie's old review to this tasty Middle Eastern place. Judging from the menu, I presume they're Lebanese or Egyptian judging from the menu but characterizing them doesn't really matter much as the food here overall was tasty. The spot is casual inside though there was a larger spot next door connected to them which would have had much more room for our group but they were closed so we did what we could do with the room we had. The staff was friendly and they gave us extra food for our large group which was very appreciated. Of course as per many places around there, there's no alcohol and I don't believe you can bring it in either so I had a Laziza which is a non-alcoholic malt beverage which comes in a variety of flavors and I had the peach version which is my preference along with the raspberry. First arriving was the Hummus for $11 which came with pita which was unfortunately a bit cool. The portion size was decent and it was decently thick with a bit of cumin and olive oil on top and was overall solid though I prefer the version at a few other spots in the surrounding area. We soon got some Falafel which are $7 for 4 which simply came on some lettuce. The price would normally be a bit much but the they were a bit larger than usual. Outside of the larger size, the falafel themselves were also particularly good in terms of texture with a good crunchy outside and a soft interior. I guess the only negative would be the light spices compared to some of the best spots but that's the only complaint and it wasn't like it was bland. For the two platters we ordered, the better option was easily the Kofta for $20 which came with a pita wrap along with two sides which were more hummus as well as French fries. The two large pieces of kofta were very well seasoned and were tender with a touch of scorch from the grill and was one of the better koftas I had in recent memory. The hummus again was good while the French fries were decent as they could have been a bit more crispy but that's usually never the case in halal spots so it didn't matter as much. Worse and the weakest thing we had was the Lamb Shish Platter for $21 which had somewhat similar bread along with our sides; a salad as well as rice. The meat which was chopped into all different sizes had a handful of pieces that were a bit chewy and a bunch that were on the more burnt end so they were overall cooked a bit too long with this being the only thing that really required the green hot sauce or yogurt. The rice was a bit better than many similar spots with more spices than usual while the salad was a nice fresh mix with the closest version being a shepherd salad as per the mix of chopped up lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. In short, good sides but the meat outside of the nice grill flavor was subpar. We also got two feteer which is a flaky Arabic pie originally from Egypt with one savory version and one dessert version. The Levant Sausage for $21 was tasty with the slightly salty sausage pairing with some cheese as well as some bell peppers and olives. I would recommend this to share as it became a big greasy and oily but it was tasty overall. Next time however, I would prefer to try the mixed version to add more textures and flavors. The sweet one was the Lotus for $23 where the lotus presumably refers to the brand of biscoff cookies which there was plentiful of which added a nice crunch as well as a bit of cinnamon flavor. There was otherwise chopped up nuts along with custard and a bit of powdered sugar. I liked that I wasn't overly sweetened even with the cookies and powdered sugar. For someone who usually prefer savory, I preferred the sweet version here surprisingly and I would recommend it pretty heavily. They also gave us baklava and knefe (or kunefe/knafeh/etc.) which was very appreciated. The baklava was solid with a good texture from the filo dough with a good sprinkling of pistachio on top. The knefe was also pretty tasty though there was less cheese than usual but it's hard to complain as it was free and it was probably chopped up from a larger piece for our freebee with it being properly warm which made it better than the version at Al-Sham. This is a solid Middle Eastern spot. It's not the best food of it's type but the general quality overall (outside of the shish) was quite high with a notably good kofta and some tasty falafel with the lotus feteer being an excellent dessert as well. The portion sizes were also quite large for the price point. I partially don't get the NYT top 100 but it's definitely a good amount better than average and if this place introduces folks to Middle Eastern food (outside of halal carts,) that isn't a bad thing. 4.3. read more

This was voted one of the best new restaurants on 2024 according to NYT so I had to try it out. Unfortunately I wasn't super impressed but it was still good to be in Astoria as I don't come very often. We came with a party of 5 and they didn't have any seats left in their original storefront but the hookah lounge right next to them, I guess, also had the same owner so we sat there instead. - Shish Kebab Platter - I really appreciate the charred meat flavors but I wish the kebab was a bit more tender as it was a bit tough to chew on. I thought it was interesting that they served all the sauces on the side and you had to pour it onto your food. I liked the spicy sauce the most as it went well with the salad. - Mixed Feteer - I never had a feteer before and the best way I could describe it is literally a pizza that has "bread" on both sides. Even the ingredients inside were very pizza like such as sausages, mozarella, and bell peppers. I liked this dish better than the kebab platter although I didn't think it was very special. Overall, I'm not sure if it deserves the high rating that it got from the NYT but +1 star for how nice and funny the waiters were! Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 7 Value: 8 Overall: 7 After two meals here, one before the NY Times article and one after, I am certain that this new Egyptian restaurant will be popular for a while. Why? Because it's fun to watch the chefs do what they do with dough behind the counter. Each time I visited, my group would stand in front of the oven area and chat with the friendly bakers for a good ten minutes before ordering. This past weekend, a group of us had a nice meal together in the separate space next door. This was better for our group of six since there was very little room available on the side of the kitchen. Here are our thoughts on all the dishes we ordered. Fattoush Salad (7/10) - Quite refreshing. A nice start to the meal. Baba Ganaouj (7/10) - Love the garlicky flavor of this dish, but lacked some smokiness. Hummus with Shawarma (6/10) - Not sure meat and nuts are necessary with my smooth hummus. Zaatar Pie (7/10) - The seasoning was great and the bread was toasty. Lahma Bel Ajen (6/10) - The meat on the pies were very moist and relatively flavorful. However, the versions I had before all had a crispier dough that I prefer way more. Mixed Feeter (7/10) - This was what we came for on the second visit and it was a slight letdown. I'm not saying it didn't taste alright. The dough was crispy and thin in the center, but somewhat really thick on some of the edge pieces. I really imagined something that would blow me away after NYT rave review, but it didn't whatsoever. Lamb on a Spin Platter (7.5/10) - May have been my favorite dish of the day. The lamb was quite tender, albeit less flavorful than I would have liked. Kofta Platter (6/10) - The char was nice, but the meat was too dry. To local NYers, this may taste pretty decent. However, if you had good kofta overseas, then you know this is not at that level. One noteworthy thing is their homemade garlic sauce. If they don't give it to you, definitely ask for it. This will make everything taste better. Sorry if it sounds like I'm complaining. The truth is Levant does put out mostly satisfactory products. It's just rarely can any restaurant live up to all that hype. I like their food and will probably come back to try more varieties of feeter soon. read more

I just so happened to be in the neighborhood a few days after Priya's glowing review dropped on the NYT, and from the looks of the many customers walking in and out of Levant, I wasn't the only one. I had been meaning to try feteer from Little Egypt, and Levant was located on the same block as Mum Feteer, but open earlier. The space inside is pretty narrow, with a few tables in the back. Everything is clean, bright, and shiny and so colorful. Although I only had enough stomach space for feteer, I will definitely return to try their shawarma platters and kebabs. The feteers are made fresh to order, and are mesmerizing to watch as the chefs lift and stretch the dough until it's paper thin, with a satisfying thwack against the counter. I ordered the mixed feteer ($24.95) on Mahmoud's recommendation and was quoted a half hour wait. This was comparatively short as lots of people streamed in after me, and I heard they had to wait 45+ min, so I would definitely recommend coming early or budgeting some waiting time if you order feteer, as all good things made with love require some time. I've heard a lot of people liken feteer to "Egyptian pizza" but it's more like a flaky, stuffed flatbread. The dough is stretched thin and brushed with ghee so it's crackly like a super thin paratha and burns your fingertips hot out the oven. The mixed feteer comes with warmly spiced sausage bits, pastrami, chicken shawarma (this ended up being my favorite protein), along with peppers, olives, and loads of cheese. The feteer comes with two sauces, one that is tangy and Thousand Island-y and another that is thicker like yogurt (I like the former as it helps cut through the richness of all the meat and cheese). Although I ordered takeout, I noticed a lot of people opted for dine-in, to the point where some customers were directed to sit next door at Sahara for extra seating. It's nice to see businesses work and collaborate together, and I will undoubtedly be back soon to try the rest of their menu. PS- The feteer reheats beautifully in the oven. I had read about this place being one of the best new restaurants of 2024 and then saw the NYT article raving about it, so had to try it. In the end, I was a skosh disappointed. Ordered through UberEats. Not sure what happened but as I was leaving realized that one of the dishes (the feteer, i.e. the main reason I came) had not printed on the Ubereats receipt and was therefore not included in my order. This was quickly rectified by them giving me a feteer that was in someone else's takeout order. Not sure if this is the fault of the restaurant or Uber, but check your order. Would have been super upset had I gotten home without this. For dishes got the mixed feteer, as mentioned above. This was good. Is it astounding? No. It's like a very good pizza. Huge portion and comes with a good amount of meat. The dough, cheese, and meat are great. If you're in the mood for a pizza-like food, you'll like this. And it's why people come. The second dish was the shish kebab platter. This was not worth the price. The meat was a bit burnt and just fine otherwise. Got rice and hummus as sides. I've never met a hummus I didn't like until this one, which was weirdly salty. Also came with a pita which was actually quite delightful-not sure what seasoning goes on it but I really enjoyed this. Also, it came with two dips so I ordered an extra for 65 cents more, which was forgotten and a bummer. I've only been in this area during the day and didn't realize at night how horrible the parking would be. Took at least 30 minutes to find a spot to park to grab this takeout (because I refuse to double park like so many choose to inconvenience other people by doing). I have always loved this area for it's "little Egypt" food and will continue to do so but probably wouldn't come back for this specifically and would prefer to try one of the many other places nearby. read more

On top of that, the decor for the place is gorgeous, the place is super clean, and the staff is super nice- what's not to love? 4.5 Stars for this visit but rounding up to 5 Stars! For my 1st review of 2025, I'd like to highlight Levant; a new Egyptian/Middle Eastern restaurant in Astoria, Queens! They opened in July 2024. I had heard some buzz about Levant, and recently read a great review in the NY Times. This is what prompted me to checkout Levant, but what will keep me coming back is their food! First, let me mention that Levant has two restaurants next to each other. We didn't know this when we visited. 7 of us sat in the more casual/smaller section; not ideal for my party of 7, since the space and tables are TINY! When we were seated, they did mention the larger dining room next door, but that space was not open on the evening we went, so it wasn't an option for us. Bummer!! For my larger parties, definitely go next door. Levant is fantastic! They have a huge menu; something for everyone. But what Levant is know for, are their many varieties of FETEER; an Egyptian pasty like"pizza" made fresh in their oven! They have many types of savory Feteer but do NOT sleep on their Lotus Feteer; this dessert Feteer is perfection. Not overly sweet, and a perfect way to end your meal at Levant! Ok, onto our picks for tonight! Here is the menu shared by 7 ppl: ~ Hummus ($11): comes with sesame seed pita. This was a pretty large portion. Very good but the pita bread was barely warm. A little more time in the oven would have made a big difference. Good, nonetheless. ~ Falafel ($7): these were great. There were supposed to be 4 falafels to an order but we ordered two orders, and somehow got 13 falafels! Thank you! :-) ~ Levant Sausage Feteer ($21): there are so many varieties of Feteer that we had a hard time deciding which one to order. We picked their sausage Feteer and it was wonderful. Next time, I'd like to try their mixed Feteer! But really, you can't go wrong with whichever one you order. ~ Lamb Shish Kebab Platter ($21): this platter comes with flat pita wrap on th side, and 2 sides of your choice. We picked rice & salad. So tasty! My only complaint is that the lamb was too well-done for my tastes. Some pieces were almost burnt, and very well-done. But the pieces that weren't as well-done, were delicious! I would order this again; requesting the lamb prepared medium-rare or medium. ~ Kofta Platter ($20): this platter comes with flat pita wrap on th side, and 2 sides of your choice. We chose Hummus & French Fries. This was a great combo! The Kofta was well seasoned and delicious. Ask for their green hot sauce! Sooooo good! ~ Lotus Feteer ($23): I usually don't order dessert but this really is a MUST HAVE, and highly recommended. I appreciated that this was not overly sweet, and served hot & fresh from the oven. This is a pastry dough with Nutella, custard, nuts & powdered sugar. This would go perfectly with a cup of hot tea! A great way to end your meal. ~ Baklava and Knefe: the Chef gifted us complimentary orders of these two desserts, and they were fantastic! I can't believe we had 3 desserts...we ate them ALL!! Before I even start talking about the food, the service here is amazing and I would come back again just to hang out with these people. Fun, personable, friendly, and accommodating. We ordered many items off of the menu for our party of six and dined in. The shawarma wrap was my meal, but also ordered the feteer for the table. I wish I had two stomachs. I ate so much food. It was amazing. We all shared our entrees and appetizers, family style, and nobody left hungry. Our visit was also special because it was my brothers 50th birthday and we brought a special cake to have for dessert. They were kind enough to keep it refrigerated while we ate, and they even changed the music in the restaurant to play happy birthday over the speakers. Amazing people. Five stars isn't enough. Levant has recently become my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant. Sadly, my gluten intolerance prevents me from sampling the feteer, but I have been impressed by the tender grilled meats--notably the lamb chops--the excellent hummus --elevated by a drizzle of first rate Lebanese olive oil--the fresh mixed salad and peppery rice. However, the eat in experience leaves something to be desired. The staff are friendly and attentive, but if you're eating at the row of tables that parallel the kitchen, you're going to be using plastic cutlery, and the frequent opening of the front doors by people picking up food will mean that it can get quite cold in the winter and hot in the summer. read more

I was walking around because, no one told me before I made the appointment for auto maintenance on my car nearby, that the wait time for it to be serviced would be 3 hours. Womp womp. So I took to the streets walking around and exploring the neighborhood. Then I remembered that Levant was within a decent walking distance. Ever since I saw them featured on a foodie page on Tik Tok, they'd been saved to my Yelp 'restaurants to try' collection. Located in the vibrant Astoria Queens community, the establishment is small but it feels warm and the colorful decor is welcoming. It also appears well maintained and clean. The service was great. When I walked in, I was greeted with a smile. The staff I interacted with were friendly and professional. I ordered the falafel wrap and it was delicious. The falafel tasted so fresh and the seasonings were a delight. It tasted like they weren't fried in old oil. They were light and flavorful. They were out of baklava when I was there so I ordered a Nutella and nuts feteer to go. It was made to order with love. I saw the man pridefully making it. I'd come back. If you like Middle Eastern food and want some of the best falafel that life has to offer at a restaurant, definitely check them out. I cannot explain how incredible this food is. I accidentally found this place and decided to try it. I just got the chicken kebab, kibbeh, and Kenafa. While I was waiting, the worker was so generous and gave me the biscoff baklawa to try. After trying a bite of every thing, my immediate family agreed this is the closest to Teta's cooking you can get. This is the only place I've found that does Kenafa the proper (and incredible) way!! The biscoff baklawa wasn't too overpowering and it was the perfect consistency, almost creamy. Definitely trying the regular next time. The place is small, homey, and very clean. You can watch the food being prepared which is always a plus. Staff is so friendly and welcoming. I live a 40 minute drive away and I'm absolutely taking the drive back frequently. The mixed shawarma platter I ordered had beef, chicken , salad ,veggies and what appeared to be made in house bread . It also came with 3 different sauces 2 of which were exceptional (the garlic and hot sauce ) . The portion size of the shawarma platter is easily enough for two meals . The chicken shawarma was my least liked part of the meal as I felt minus any sauce , it had no flavor . I've had better chicken shawarma and this was below par imo. The beef was much better and could be eaten minus the sauce . The bread was good and the veggies were typical diced veggies with some odd sized and undercooked pieces of carrots etc sprinkled in . Assuming it is made in house , the star of the Levant experiment was the knafeh. It had proper texture and the custard was light and savory . It's the only thing that wowed me outside of seeing several people receive their feteers. Levant Astoria/queens is a great spot offering a variety of authentic Lebanese food, and their shawarma is a standout, prepared in true Lebanese style. I tried the open manoushe, half cheese and half zaatar, and it was delicious. The bread is made fresh early in the morning, so you can get manaeish with hot, freshly baked bread right in front of you (early in the day). Later in the day they use the rest of the bread that they had made eariler that day-- so I would recommend going early! The space has a cozy atmosphere and great seating for a quick bite, making it perfect for grabbing a meal on the go. For the area, the quantity for the price is solid--I'd give it a 4/5. With its wide selection of Lebanese dishes and fresh, flavorful options, I'll definitely be coming back to try some other options. read more

Gorgeous interior. Very kind and friendly staff (they offered us free falafel as we waited for our food to be prepped). All made to order. Feteer is loaded with filling so you can barely down half a pie on your own which is a win in my book because it makes for two to three meals. You can go halfsies with the fillings if you so choose which is awesome if you and a friend can't make up your minds (we didn't get charged extra for this). We opted for chicken shawarma and mixed feteer and the chicken shawarma wasn't really SHAWARMA in my opinion, but juicy cubes of chicken (not at all dry and old like another feteer spot nearby). It was not super well seasoned so I wasn't really all about it BUT my half of the feteer I shared was the mixed and I thought it was great! I loved that there was a lot going on in it and best part was that it came with sauce which only upped the flavors. We had it to go so it did soften with the heat but even then the dough was wonderful with all the stunning crispy layers (but would've been even better right out the oven). The custard feteer was an absolute hit. It was a thin layer of not too sweet custard with powdered sugar over the top of the feteer. Our first time having feteer and we are fans! Like a stuffed calzone, the mixed feteer came with meat, green peppers, black olives and was akin in flavor to a flaky supreme pizza. The chicken kebab platter was also tasty with beautifully cooked tender chicken. Both of these were very large plates and enough to feed our family of 4 with leftovers. The baklava was a lovely dish to end on - not too sweet and with a yummy cream layer inside. Overall, a very very tight space with minimal seating. Read NYTimes review and headed out to Astoria to find out for myself if the reviews were as good as they read. ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Fresh ingredients, and made to order. We ordered the Chicken shawarma feteer, salad, appetizer of Falafel and a custard feteer. My mouth is watering just thinking about the yumminess these dishes provided. The portions were huge and we ended up taking almost all of it home. The family that works behind the counter is great. When we got there, all the tables were taken, so we placed our order (at the suggestion of the chef's son), he took my cell# and said he'll text when our order was ready. I was so excited to support this new business but I was severely disappointed. The service is terrible, one of the worst I've experienced. They were rude, they refused to provide insight on what's offered and just pointed at the menu. There was a tray of kunefe, I asked for a piece and lady said sold out (but there's a whole tray with some pieces missing/sold). Got the lamb sausage feteer and was sick for days following. Extremely greasy and lacked flavor. Go elsewhere. read more

So delicious! The mixed feteer is even better than I thought it would be. There's a fair amount of black olives in it and I find olives to ruin the flavor of anything it's in. Idk the magic they do but you don't taste it at all and every bite is better than the next. I think I've found my new comfort/ hangover food! read more
