I went here after a wedding for a friends birthday last year and the experience was awful. The drinks are over priced and the staff was terrible. My car was valet'd and they lost it, or so they said. Turned out after waiting almost an hour for them to "find" where they parked it, they had really just misplaced the keys and finally found them. So, this time I was with a friend and she had never been here. So I gave her my opinion on the place but we decided to give it a go anyways. Basically the same experience sans the valet. Level 8 is a swanky, stylish lounge that has a lovely open air balcony overlooking the beautiful expanses of Tallahassee. The bartenders and waiters are professional and suave, politely serving patrons visiting the lounge. The appetizers at Level 8 are savory and delicious! The food arrives quickly after ordering and is always wonderful. Their wine list is extensive and I always find a quality Pinot Noir. They have a decent selection of bottled beers. Nothing unique to the city or Florida in general. But beer is beer, am I right? read more

The balcony is really relaxing. Lots of places to sit and chill. I liked the upscale decor both in the bar and outside seating area. We stayed at hotel duval and I was surprised that even with the crowds of people heading upstairs I did not hear the noise at night. Both nights had live music which I really enjoyed. I love hanging out at Level 8 when I am in Tallahassee. It's atop the restored Hotel Duval and definitely one of the trendy spots in Tallahassee. As one of the tallest buildings other then the Florida Capitol the view is exceptional and although the afternoon sun can be a little hot the sunsets are totally worth it. The bartenders and waitstaff are attentive and friendly and the food I have sampled there has been good. read more

The servers are hot but the service need improvement with the exception of Bianca. They don't have a sense of urgency or attentive behavior. It's not fine dining because you shouldn't have to beg or speak up for service. Bianca was a lovely cocktail waitress and i seriously think she did a great job. I had there salmon dip which was devine. I did find the bar staff was grossly forgetful and was just not "on it". read more

Service and drinks were good but food was subpar. So hence the three star rating. I hadn't eaten all day so I figured bar food was a safe bet. Pork belly Flatbread tasted like a microwave pizza. I guess my normal expectations for flatbread are a slight crispy bread (mine was really soft and slightly rubbery). I tried the tots on the menu and it is probably a personal preference but I found the tots to be soggy/not fully cooked and the flavor just didn't work for me. Service wise the bartenders were great and really attentive. Happy hour prices were on point as well, but now I'm left a little hangry. read more

Level 8 topped off my wedding night in a great way two weeks ago! Many of our out-of-town guests were staying at Hotel Duval so it was an easy choice for the after party. We had a fun dance party (though we were hoping for some Taylor Swift to no avail) and closed the bar down. Chad Ryan was really wonderful and his colleagues, Rolf and Kristie, were also really great. Ok I'd start off with the good. The bar is nice and "swanky", possibly provides the best aerial views of Tallahassee. There is a nice lounge area outside which makes for a good place to unwind after a long day/week. But that's where the goodness all ends... The service staff there is horrible. If possible I would give this place a 0-star rating. Hate to throw the race card here but my friends and I decided to give this place another shot after the first "racist" incident. The first incident involved receiving poor customer service and bad attitudes from the bar tenders at the LeRoc Lounge at Level 8. It literally took us over an hour to get recognized while our white/Caucasian associates surrounding us received service and drinks in no time (every time). We aired our frustration on an online review, received an apology via social media and service was noticeably better the next time we visited. Yet again, specifically the night of 12/14/2016 we visited this place again and this time around the level of service was just horrible/unacceptable. Noticeably while looking across the bar when any of the African-American customers attempted to get any of the bartender's attention they simply skipped them and acknowledged everyone else (even-though they had been standing there the entire time). It was a noticeable and uncomfortable aura across the establishment that "our" patronage wasn't appreciated. This was confirmed when making eye contact and casual conversation with others "of color" while standing there at the bar waiting to be served because it was obvious what was going on and we all shared the same mutual feeling. It even took over an hour for us to close out our tab. We literally had to have one of our Caucasian colleagues signal a bartender to get service almost every time. Such a horrible feeling. This hurts because as a person from the area who's always willing to advocate for the area it's dreadful to notice this type of activity. These bartenders clearly have some type of issue. No type of textual review can describe the minimal type of interaction they give toward African-Americans customers. This place is marketed as an upscale type venue so a certain high level of service quality is to be expected. Discussing this to others in the area (especially those of color) they have noticed this to be an issue with that establishment, yet those individuals choose to stay silent and vowed not patronize the place if at all possible. Me on the other hand will be making it known that there is an issue and most certainly I will be informing my counterparts (especially those of color) that our patronage isn't much appreciated at this establishment. read more

I don't expect immediate service but this was 15 minutes and it was clear the bar staff prioritized regulars - so being from out of town I concluded I stood zero chance of getting a drink prior to retirement. read more

Level 8 is such a lovely and friendly area to unwind and relax. The staff is very courteous and professional yet still know how to have a good time with their patrons. Not only do the bar personnel and wait staff get along with the customers but just as important they work well with each other. I have told several of my friends about Level 8 and the ones that have visited there have become regulars. I started my relationship with the Duval several years ago when the Le Roc Bistro was at that time the Le Roc Lounge. There was an entrance on Virginia Street and also one from the lobby of the hotel. It was a piano bar with Les Brock on the keyboards. Folks, the view here is really great. Sundown is spectacular (you know, sun sets in the west and all); however, I've had mixed experiences. Drink selection is generally pretty good, but nothing special. Mixed drinks are on the expensive side and wine selection is good if you like white wine with ice cubes. The bar is often manned by aloof college dudes who seem preoccupied with...themselves, the waitresses, fill in the black with anything but "service." It's fun on occasion for a drink to see the skyline. read more

I ordered 2 cocktails ($22 total) and the bill was $30. When I asked about it, apparently the "old menu" was given to us and "unfortunately their prices have gone up since then." I specifically ordered off of the menu on the table and pointed to the drinks we wanted. They conveniently didn't notice the "old menu" until we noticed the price and our card was already swiped to start a tab. The waitress just said the manger couldn't do anything about it. As a manger it is unacceptable to leave old misleading menus out. As a waitress or server, you would think they would make some effort to try to make it right. $15 for a cocktail is very steep and we wouldn't have ordered them if we knew that. It's disappointing to have that misleading info and bad service at a nicer place like this. Doesn't matter if it's $8 or $50, it's the principle. The price was raised 30% without our knowledge and they wouldn't even order the price that was left on the table. read more

I was really looking forward to a fun night out with my group of "thirty something" friends at a great new place in Tallahassee. Boy, was I disappointed. We arrived at 7:30 with no seats available inside, but tons of comfortable sofas outside. Unfortunately, they were reserved for a 10:00 party and we were told we could not sit there even though we promised to leave prior to 10:00. It was 50 degrees and only three out of ten sofas had heaters. We finally scored some great seats inside with a great waitress only to learn at 9:30 that our chairs had to be moved against the wall to make room for more people. Even though by this time our party had grown to over 12 people. No coffee was available and no snacks! It seemed like all we heard the entire night was "no". Really fancy with good cocktails. The bartender was very attentive to us while we waited to be seated at shulas. The drinks were pretty good, if a little pricey. It ended up being like 35-40 bucks for two of their special cocktails including tip, but whatever, you're paying for the view. read more

It's fun once in awhile to get dressed up and go out dancing with girls, to get your picture taken by a professional and to be served free champagne (Wednesdays at level 8 is ladies night). It's also a nice view of the city skyline, such as it is. I've never been any night but Wednesday, so maybe that's my problem, but it's usually a little crowded out there on that roof, with lots of sorta iffy guys hitting on you and spilling your drink on that cute dress. read more
