Levels Restaurant We took our grandson for a birthday dinner experience 20 Feb 26. He's 17 and loves to try new cuisines. The atmosphere of the restaurant is enchanting, warm and friendly. The music is played at a perfect level for conversation. Our server respectfully welcomed our table of five as 'family.' How refreshing. We ordered five different dishes from the menu. I ordered the beef Suya Burger paired with the plantains. This burger is fabulous. Succulent pieces of highly seasoned hand chopped beef that is juicy piled high with fresh tomato and red onion slices. The spinach is sautéed and nicely seasoned. Then there's this spicy concoction of sauce topped on the burger. The first bite of the soft bun with all its goodness was so good. The plantains are sweet, soft and perfectly cooked. We also ordered Jerk Chicken wings, the Party Jollof Plate with goat, the Egusi Soup with pounded Yam, and Suya. The portions are very generous as we sampled each dish and my word was every dish was a unique taste explosion. However, when I asked about one of the menu items, the staff member said she didn't know, which was a little surprising. We ordered the jollof party plate and ogbono soup with pounded yam. The rice was a bit hard, but I really enjoyed the plantains. The soup just wasn't for me personally. Probably an acquired taste. The Nigerian beer selection was fun and I enjoyed the Star beer. This was my first visit to Levels and I can say it lives up to the hype! Firstly the decor is beautiful and almost transports you to a tropical place when you walk into the restaurant. The decor is setup for groups of 4-6 adults and definitely for good conversation. The lighting is absolutely stunning and feels very safari like or similar to a tropical hut type atmosphere. I love the decor and the ambiance. Music selection was also on point and not so loud that you can't hear the people you're dining with. They also have a small art gallery on the upper level which is super cool. I ordered the Lagos Island tea and it was so good I just kept ordering it. Be careful, it packs a smooth punch! For my entree I went with the Amayase stew and due to a shortage of white rice I was pleased to get jollof rice. Now if you don't enjoy spicy food this dish will be too much for you. I have eaten ghost peppers whole and thrived afterwards if that's an indication of the spice level. However, it's not just spicy, it's flavorful and spicy and I'm craving more amayase as I write this review. The jollof rice here is some of the best I've tasted by the way. Our waiter was so fun and engaging without doing too much. He knew how to draw everyone out who had never tried Nigerian cuisine and made solid recommendations. Food 9/10: Jloop rice with beef or chicken. Can't go wrong with it Service 0/10: The kitchen is so slow and there is almost no service. The wait time for our food is 2 hours, and our appetizer never shows up. Ambiance: 5/10. It's a nicely decorated place, though the hostess and kitchen can't handle food coming out in a timely manner. I'd been planning ALL week to have this meal on this day. I called my order in. Party Jollof with goat and spinach as my side. I added a side of cole slaw. I picked up my order and headed home. I get home ready to dig in. Unpack my dinner and my goat is missing. The large part of the tray was all jollof rice. I also noticed the rice wasn't hot. I moved it around thinking maybe the meat was underneath. NOPE I called to inform them and it was as if I was questioned on whether or not I was telling the truth. I said I'm headed back there. $35 for my meal AND now I have to drive back. First experience isn't going well and I haven't even touched the food yet. I arrive to the restaurant and inform the hostess my meal was missing meat. Again, questioned as if I'm telling the truth. Of course I'm not happy. Time and energy...over it. The hostess apologized. The waitress who checked me out appears with a container of meat and no apology. I head home to try to enjoy my meal. The food...OMG AMAZING. So FLAVORFUL. However, not too sure on how fresh the goat was. Also, there were more bones than meat. The cole slaw was a little sweet to my liking and had more dressing than slaw mix. Thankfully, I had some in my fridge and added to my slaw. PERFECT. The 3 stars are for customer service. Quality control and checks and balances. Gas is too high to have to drive back. My husband and I loved our experience at Levels. While the outside is rather unassuming, the inside is stunning and clean! We were greeted with waters and chin chin. Their chin chin was some of the best I've had, and my husband said it was among his top as well. We ordered the Suya and Asun, as well as the party jollof with goat. We were served chin chin, which tasted like a mixture of nuts. The service was remarkable. Our waitstaff was great, he took the time to answer our questions and he gave us recommendations on what to order and the level of spiciness. We ordered the Beef Suya, which is very delicious and tasty beef with an assortment of sauces, the beef was very tender. We also ordered the Goat meet pepper soup, which the first taste, we both went to water, afterwards the spiciness went down and the broth was delicious and the goat meat was tasty as well. Our main entree was the Tilapia Platter. This platter was a work of art and was more than enough for the two of us. We just stared at it for a minute before eating, the platter was filled with different colors of veggies along with the fish and slathered with the sauce on the fish. The fish is served whole and it was delicious and we savored every bite. I had never ate jollof rice, this was absolutely mouthwatering. I ordered jollof takeout. The food for the most part was good, but my partner didn't enjoy the tilapia. It had this bitter aftertaste like the gut wasn't properly cleaned or cleaned at all. The service was horrible. The waitress didn't crack a single smile, the food took so long to get ready with zero checking in from the waitress to see if we needed anything. When the food finally came, we had to wait another 10 minutes for her to get utensils and napkins, she left us sitting there and was chatting with another customer, while we sat awkwardly with the food in front of us. Then we flagged down another employee to ask for utensils and he never came back. We saw him socializing with another table, and didn't come to check if we eventually got the utensils. I was so excited to try this place especially because there is not a lot of good African cuisine restaurants in the area and their marketing on social media looked amazing. So I decided to wait until my sister from Texas came in town so we could try it together. We invited a few other people that's never had West African cuisine, so I made a reservation on a Sunday afternoon. We were a party of 4 & 2 of us arrived early for our reservation, we were immediately greeted and seated. The ambiance was very welcoming, and chic. The hostess was very kind, she let us know that our server would be with us shortly. Finally our server arrived she introduced herself as Brianna gave us menus and brought water. She stated if we had any questions let her know. I asked her about the proteins that come in the egusi stew and the broth that it was cooked in and she informed me that all of the stews except the vegetarian are cooked in Goat broth. For me my feelings were instantly hurt , because I don't eat goat. My instincts then told me to leave but I was here and wanted to try it, but I knew it wouldn't be any of the stews that I had my mouth set on so I asked for the beef Suya to start and was told they were sold out of it. At this point, I have to look at the menu all over again because I knew what I wanted when I walked in that door but everything that I wanted was either sold out or cooked in goat broth stated by Brianna. I asked her if I got the vegetable soup could I pay extra for meat she stated "it depends on who's in the kitchen" I'm like omg ma'am damn did we offend you because the attitude was much too much for me. Then, someone else asked about the level of spice in the food and immediately Brianna said "it's an African restaurant everything is spicy you will be safe with the jollof" in a very nasty and condescending tone. As if we said or did something to piss her off. Another party asked about the house level sauce for the wings and she couldn't even finish her sentence before our lovely server Brianna cut her off with a "we don't have that" again with a nasty attitude. Trying again I decided to go with the Jollof rice platter with beef and was told they're out of beef no beef in house only chicken and no hibiscus tea and a few other options. Now at the point I really don't want anything I'm ready to go but the other ladies were hungry and we were still waiting on one more person but I knew what she wanted and was going to order for her. So I went ahead and ordered the Jollof rice with chicken. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and 2 of the 3 restrooms downstairs were filthy the toilets hadn't been flushed and were full of surprises. And no paper towels to dry your hands. Once leaving and going back upstairs my food arrived and omg I just couldn't believe my eyes. The damn chicken still had feathers on it. The plantains were cold the jollof rice looked like and over cooked Spanish rice. Lacking flavor very bland and over cooked tasted like it was sprinkled with curry powder and a little salt and that's about it. If I could give this place a negative number I would did I mention there was gum in the seat so when I left out of the restaurants my friends spotted the gum on me. I'm all about second chances but the server was horrible I understand people have bad days but the amount of attitude we received from her there's no bad day in the world that could justify that working in the hospitality industry. The feathers on the chicken let me know that it wasn't properly cleaned so I'm good. I really wish I didn't have to write a negative review on this spot because I was so excited. read more

Our waitress was very sweet and attentive, the owner came over to greet us, I got a tour of the cute art studio on the second level...it was amazing! Levels has a really nice vibe to it. It's fairly simple, yet also immersive in that it celebrates the culture. I can best describe it as relaxed, casual sophistication. It made for quite a pleasant meal. A few reviews from November and early December mention that the service was slow or lacking. I'm guessing that might have been a temporary situation with staffing. Our service was excellent. We were there early, so that also might have factored, but they looked to be well staffed. Every single worker we interacted with was friendly, polite, and competent. Food and drinks came fairly quickly, too. Once we were seated, we were served waters and a small bowl of chin chin, basically a Nigerian street food that is little cubes of fried, sweetened dough. They were crunchy and tasted of cinnamon and/or nutmeg. A small touch from the restaurant, but nice - and that little bowl actually contained much more than it appeared. I ordered the Party Jollof (jollof rice plate) with beef. The rice was deeply flavored with a light smokiness. Just a bit of heat from spice, but not much even for a spice-baby like me. The beef came on the side in 1 inch or larger cubes. They appeared to be from a roast that must have been very well braised and seasoned. The rendering and seasoning made it fork fall apart and so savory. Also on the side was a spinach-based hot vegetable mix. Don't know all the ingredients or spices, but it was good. Coleslaw was the alternative to that. And a bunch of tasty fried plantains rounded out the platter. The wife ordered Efo Riro. It was described as a vegetable soup medley, but appeared to me to be the same spinach/greens mix that I was served, except much more. Still good, though! She ordered beef with hers, too, and it came under the greens in her bowl. Same savory beef as mine. A grapefruit sized ball of fufu filled out her order (vs. a white rice option), which she broke up and added to the dish as needed - to soak up the flavors. One other highlight: The Party Jollof was $24, and the Efo Riro was $26. Both were reasonably priced. But both were also huge amounts of food - much more than they appeared to be on the plates. Now I forced all mine down, but the wife brought more than half of hers home. Will make a couple of nice lunches for me! read more

So good!! My first time trying Nigerian food, and I loved it! The Party Jollof was sooo good, especially with the sides. I recommend getting it with the goat meat if you can, was cooked very well. My favorite dish though was the Efo Riro - it was so flavorful and tasty with the perfect level of spice. And the texture of the fufu was great with it. I'm more of a sweet cocktail girl, so it wasn't my cup of tea, but not bad. I ordered the party jollof plate and I enjoyed it. You get a lot of food and the rice is spicy, so beware lol. The chicken was great and I tried my friend's goat.. lets just say.. I highly recommend you to try the goat. Take my word. Decided to get the beef Jollof box which came with jollof rice, plantains and Cole slaw. When it came there was 3 pieces of beef, 3 plantains, 2oz container of Cole slaw and the rice underneath. The rice was smoky but I wouldn't call it jollof rice. It was definitely missing a few components. It taste like yellow rice. No spice no tomatoes paste flavor. The beef was fork tender but a little dry when chewing and also lacking flavor. One piece of beef tasted like it was goat instead. Would have preferred the beef to be stewed to offer more flavor and sauce. The plantain was okay. I prefer fried plantain and not baked but it was pretty good. Overall for the price I'm not going to complain much but I don't think the lunch menu is worth it. Would more than likely not come for lunch again. Maybe I would try the dinner menu. I have been here twice so far. As a lover of Nigerian food, and my other favorite African places closing, I was ecstatic to try this place. The first time I attended, it was a soft opening in the summer. Our food took a very long time to come out but our waitress was refreshingly pleasant and kept us updated. They weren't busy that day but the fish took hours to be served. They served us some other Nigerian specialties as we waited. My main course has been delicious both times I attended. I usually get fish and jollof rice, plaintains, pounded yam or fufu, and/or efo riro. So yummy. My friends, who were all new to Nigerain food, all enjoyed their food. The second time I went, they served us water without any ice in a tiny cups and when we asked for ice, were told they were out. I don't know if their machine was down that day but you should always have ice, especially when you serve spicy foods. Tip to those wanting to try: If you are not a fan of spicy food, you should probably avoid the efo riro. The decor is really nice and it is a decent sized location. They are located on Wash Ave in a prime location. There was plenty of street parking and some lot parking. The selfie museum is nearby as well as a nice boutique hotel.I wish they had other locations in the county but this is just wishful thinking.
