I'm surprised at the negative feedback on Levin Tire. Maybe they've address the issues that other reviews commented on. I don't know. I do know that over the past two weeks, we've needed work done on both our vehicles and we received excellent service! What was outstanding about their service (and now sets them apart from the other auto service places in Valparaiso - namely Brown's Tire and Heinold & Feller) is that the folks at Levin didn't try to upsell my wife on anything else (such as trying to sell her two more tires, transmission fluid change, etc.). The people at Brown's Tire had told her that she need to replace the timing belt asap and that her car needed about $1,500 worth of other work done. When she asked the mechanics at Levin, they could have easily played on her concerns by reiterating the apparent nonsense Brown's Tire told her. Instead, the assured her that, while she should have the timing belt changed in the future, it didn't need to be as an emergency. They also encouraged her to wait on the other items Brown's had told her needed to be done. On our second vehicle, we had purchased the fuel tank strap with the intent of putting it on ourselves. We weren't able to do that and I called Brown's Tire to see if they would put it on for me. Brown's told me that they would not put these straps on for me, that I would have to purchase the parts from them (they quoted me $150 for them; I paid $40 for them online) and then they quoted me another $150 for labor, for a total of $300. After my wife's great experience with Levin's, I thought I'd ask them. Not only were they willing to use the parts I had purchased, but they charged on $73 for the labor to do the work! Perhaps the biggest factor is finding an auto repair shop you want to stay with is trusting them. After working with Levin Tire's, we trust them and will be using them going forward. read more

If you are a woman, especially a young woman or the guardians of a young woman, do NOT take your car services here. Last month at the beginning of April, I was sexually harassed by an employee at this establishment. I will attach photos here of messages he sent me via my personal phone number by copying it from my profile that was made by the store. Without my consent or pre-approved knowledge this employee paid for a service that I was entrusting the storefronts mechanics to do. This is an older gentleman that had previously been speaking with me about his wife and elderly father in a friendly, NOT inappropriate, manner. Given the light hearted conversation, I consider his act to be one of generosity and age superior kindness. However, once I left the shop is when he began messaging me. As you can see from the messages, I offered to pay him back for this unexpected and unauthorized act he did of his own free will. He proceeded to request sexual favors in return for his decision to pay for my car service. I was dumbfounded and did not respond for a period of time, in which he repeatedly messaged me until I did respond. In response I reflected on how inappropriate the request was. I unfortunately had to encounter him again the next morning, as the shop's team was servicing my vehicle once more. He "apologized" over text and said he too would be professional. All in all this was a terrible, uncomfortable and outright disgusting experience that I had from this shop. It triggered experiences of sexual harassment and assault that have happened to me in the past year, recent and traumatic enough to induce a panic attack response the more I had to reckon with seeing this man again the next day. I would not recommend their services to anyone, but I ESPECIALLY would not recommend these services to any woman, young women especially, due to their own vulnerability. I was leaving the state and moving across the country, I was alone with no family near my home, and this employee tried to take advantage of that in a humiliating and degrading way. This has been my go to place for all my car repairs. Been going there for nearly 10 years. They know my car and always have the best customer service! Had engine light, VSC light, and 4 WD light on. Cost nearly $3000 to fix it but it's cheaper than getting a new car. Jim and Butch always go the extra mile to accommodate me. Unfortunately I have to get it back in on Monday. Lights came on again and I noticed a trail from my driveway to my garage, thought it was water but there is a big puddle of oil in my garage under the car so hoping someone just didn't tighten something and that's why my lights are on. I purchased a full set of Michelin tires for my Corolla less than a year ago. Although I usually get the Road Hazard Warranty, for some reason, it did not at that time. One week after taking the car in for an regular oil change and tire rotation, one of the tires began to slowly leak. My 18 year old daughter took the car back to Levin, explained the problem and asked them to look at the tire and fix the leak. Less than 20 minutes later, the technician told her that the tire was cut on the side, not fixable, and since we didn't have their Road Hazard Warranty, we would have to buy a new tire. She came home and gave me the invoice. I called and talked to the manager. Basically was told the same thing and said that even though the tire was less than a year old, it was't covered under the manufacturer's warranty because it wasn't a defect. Went to get a second opinion and was told there was a screw in the tread. It was removed and plugged. The sensor had also been installed incorrectly and they fixed that problem also. It's been a month and have had no problems with that tire. That was the second set of tires I have purchased for one of my vehicles from Levin. The other set was for a small truck about 3 years ago. I will need to replace the tires on another of my vehicles soon but will not be a customer at Levin in Valparaiso again. They were dishonest and I believe they saw a young person, a female in this case, and tried to scam her. But they tried the same thing with my 20 year old son 3 years ago, giving him a whole list of things that needed to be done to the truck when he took it in for an oil change/tire rotation. Levin Tire & Service Center in Valparaiso operates in a dishonest manner. Fortunately, as a parent, I can educate my kids on how to recognize and deal with these types of situations. As a consumer, I can take my business else where, and I have. I also notified my regular mechanic who had referred me to Levin for such things as oil changes and tires, about their tactics. Here's my timeline. Friday: My car is making a grinding noise typically associated with a worn bearing. I investigate the matter further and find that in fact the bearing is worn. Normally I'd try to save myself some money and fix it myself, but it was winter and I don't have a garage. Plus I needed my car to be up and running ASAP as I had an appointment the following Wednesday that I couldn't miss. Saturday: I call around to a bunch of shops, all of which say they couldn't start on it until Monday or Tuesday. Then Levin says they could fit me in that day. That probably should've raised red flags, but hey, I wasn't in a position to shop around unfortunately. Go in, and there's a line out the door. They say they'll look at my car and let me know what needs fixing. My wife and I run errands for a couple of hours before I get my call from the salesman. He told me that my bearing needs changed, as do my tie rods and something about my break and a valve cap. I head to the shop and talk with the mechanic. He shows me the play in my wheels and everything seems to line up with the tie rods and my bearing. The valve cap thing I knew about but was waiting to fix myself. He didn't mention the breaks; which didn't surprise me because those were changed recently, so who knows what the salesmen was talking about. It was just another in a series of lies and/or half truths I was told by the salesman. So we go back inside and the salesman tells me it will take an extra day to get the tie rods, but it will definitely be done Monday. I don't have a problem with him meeting my estimated time because he has to get parts for a second repair I didn't tell him about. So fine. Monday: I get a call at work from the salesman that they can't find the bearing anywhere locally for my car, so it's going to take an extra day to fix. I'm annoyed, because that means that he definitely couldn't have followed through on his original estimate, even without the tie rods, but I'm stuck. They said they'd call tomorrow. Tuesday: I get a ride from a coworker, who drops me off at Levin at the end of the day. The salesman, who prior to that was standing around shooting the breeze with some co-workers said that he was just about to call me because my car wasn't done. They had ordered the wrong bearing, because I have the sport model, and broke it trying to put it in the hub. It was going to take another day to get it. First off, that's stupid. You should've known that it has the sport parts. The model is called the OZ Rally version. It has a spoiler. It has a different engine. It wasn't hiding it's sportiness in any way. Second, you were just about to call me? You were standing around doing nothing when I walked in. You could've called me and saved me a trip in, Plus my co-worker had gone home already, so I had to wait an extra 15 minutes for your shuttle service; which wouldn't be bad, except for the whole wasting the whole trip thing. So anyway, he says it will be done tomorrow morning, that he'll call when it's done, and that it definitely will be finished. That's great, except that I have to pick up my mother-in-law at the airport tomorrow, and you promised me something you couldn't deliver on; so now I don't have a lot of time to figure out an alternative plan. Wednesday: I take the day off work so I can drop off my wife at work and use her car to pick up my mother-in-law. Unfortunately, I won't get back from O'Hare until after Levin closes, so if I don't get a call before I leave for the Airport than I won't have a car tomorrow morning either. Gets to be about 2 hours before I have to leave with no word. So around 2 pm I call them and ask if it's done. "Oh yeah, we finished it this morning, do you want to come get it?" So their shuttle picks me up and I can finally get my car. As I'm paying the salesman chuckles and says "We just had the hardest time with that bearing. Sure took a long time." I just looked at him and said nothing. I removed the Levin keychain they put on my car key and left. The work done was fine. The wheels haven't fallen off and it's been a month or so since this happened. While the work was pricier than other shops, it wasn't so much so that I can complain about pricing. The mechanic knew his stuff and explained to me why what needed to be fixed needed to be fixed. My problem is that every single conversation I had with the salesman he lied to me in some capacity. He lied to me to get me in the door. He lied to me about his ability to get the part. He lied to me when he said he would contact me, twice. Don't tell me you can do something when you know you can't. I don't expect miracles, but I expect honesty. If he had told me from the start that he probably couldn't do it that day then I wouldn't have had a problem. But they got my money so I doubt he even cares. I had a leak in the power steering hose, we brought my vehicle to Levin and they replaced the power steering pump AND the serpentine belt. When we picked it up, there was a whole new sound coming from the engine. The following week we brought it back. They looked at it and said the noise was from the leak in the power steering hose, they replaced it. Picked it up and still making the same "new" noise. We were told that the sound was the new power steering pump and it had to "break in" and the noise would go away. Two separate opinions later and we're being told a tension pulley needs to be adjusted. When the replaced the serpentine belt, they knocked something out of alignment. We brought it up there for a third time and was told yet again, the pump was bad (LIE) and they replaced it (ANOTHER LIE), and the noise IS STILL THERE. I will no longer bring my vehicle to Levin for anything other than tires, and that's questionable. They lie and do questionable mechanical work. Now we have to go elsewhere to get the pulleys adjusted because Levin doesn't want to fix the problem. NEVER BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS PLACE! read more

Never going back, the man who I dealt with was rude, crass and just not friendly. I was given a rough estimate (parts/labor) of $1000-$1200 for front pads/rotors & rear shocks. My parking brake wire is hanging, due to clips that rusted off so I asked if they could put clips on so it wasn't hanging...his response was, "do you use your parking brake often?", I replied, "I have used it, but not often"...then he says, "we can just get rid of it". Went in for an oil change and tire rotation, their technicians gave my vehicle a full inspection and caught a couple things I had missed. The service writer explained in detail what their recommendations were and an approximate timeline. Definitely will be a repeat customer. read more

I cannot pass on enough compliments regarding this Levin location. They often say "it's the people that make the business". Jim Wayco and his staff take a very professional approach to the utmost in customer service. I have found them honest and take a candid approach to your vehicle needs. I have never felt them "up-selling" on any work needed on your vehicle. They tell you exactly what is needed and will quote you accordingly to have the work done. I have always felt the quality of the work and the cost to repair/replace any item on your vehicle to be very fair. We have had Audi's and Mercedes in the family and there is not anything I wouldn't trust Jim and his team to do on our vehicles. I would also recommend when your vehicle is out of warranty to use Levin Tire for your needs. You are not obligated to support the dealerships after the warranty has expired and will often find Levin Tire alot more competitive on all parts/services needs on your vehicle. JoeC. read more

Terrible store and incompetent management. If you want your auto and tires worked on by a trustworthy team of mechanics and management DON'T go to Levin Tire in Valpo! The tech broke one of my lug nuts with the wheel stud inside and the manager tried to blame whoever put the original tire on . This was after two weeks of waiting for Jerry the manager to send me a replacement lug nut which still hasn't arrived after two weeks. He sent it regular mail instead of UPS and I have no way to track it. Only after did he try to not own his own shops screw up. Initially the other manager blamed the tech. Not only that , they failed to complete the simple oil change and fluid services then never turned off or reset the warning lights. I asked twice and they forgot both times. Also promised to order a part for my power steering pump, a cooling hose. After the initial diagnostic. I came back to the shop 3 weeks later expecting them to replace the hose they said needed replacing and that they knew had to be a dealer ordered part. They never ordered it so I left again with no lug nut they should of ordered and no replacement hose they knew they had to order after the initial visit 3 weeks previous. I blame Jerry and Doug on this. Completely incompetent. Bottom line this place sucks , they are not trustworthy, they don't stand behind their service and I doubt they have any real expertise in anything but overcharging for services not delivered. read more

I went in there for 2 rear tires. I already knew the model I wanted. They had quoted me the best price, and had them in stock. They remarked that the tires I had on there were not too bad, that I really didn't need new ones. I appreciate this, this is honest. But I wanted better tires on the rear for the snow. They were busy that day and it took around 3-4 hours. I walked to Panera Bread, had lunch, read my mail. A tech came out + said that there were fluid leaks with the oil and transmission fluid. He wanted to add dye to each and then they can pinpoint the leaks. I declined. I check my fluids once a month or so, and there was no loss of fluid. When I got home, I changed the oil, and looked at the oil pan. Dry as a bone. Same with the transmission pan. Trying to rip me off with service that was not needed! I've been fixing cars 25 years and still some shops pull this stuff. The tires worked great. read more

My company took our route car here out of convenience for a noise issue under the hood. Levin told us we need a couple different parts, which turned out to NOT EXIST! Our car died immediately after receiving it back from them. They charged us for these made-up parts AND we later found out they didnt even do the work which they originally said they did!! These "mechanics" are total CON-ARTISTS!!!! We had to have the entire engine replaced! They do not know what they are doing, and theyre stealing money! Theyre a total joke and should not be in business. If they have a part in their system that does not exist .. and billed us for it, they had to have done this to other people. Two stars is a combination: good experience historically but less good the last time or two. Most recently (in April, 2013): a) When buying two new tires, the salesperson sold me the worthless extended warranty. He did not show me the quote in writing and did not mention the warranty. I had to stand there and repeatedly ask to have it removed while the salesman said "It's part of the package" and similar bogus excuses. (He did remove it.) b) Same vist, the salesperson told me that a leaking tire had been fixed. Actually they did nothing except over-inflate the tire by 8 PSI. (The good news is they didn't charge anything either.) c) The most recent two visits Levin Tire has been hard-selling wheel alignment. They check the alignment while doing other tire work. This last time I fell for it: the sales person pointed at all the red numbers that turned out to be non-adjustable in order to sell the service, while they actually aligned only a little bit of one front wheel. On the other hand, I have been going there since this shop opened in Valpo and until the past two visits I've been quite happy. They never tried to sell inappropriate or unneeded tires or services before starting the alignment thing two visits ago. They were upfront about how fast or slow the work would take before I committed to staying. They recorded the odometer reading accurately. No salesperson had lied before this past visit. So I will likely return, but a) I'll now be on my guard, b) I'll leave rather than deal with the same guy, c) I won't fall for the alignment thing again. As far as tires go, you will not find better deals and service. They offer the best prices, they rotate your tires for free (if you purchased them there) and they will fix your flat for free as well. If your tires were filled with nitrogen, they will top them off when you lose pressure...for free. Granted this is their way of finding new business but you always have the option of going somewhere else for a second opinion. I enjoy their comfortable waiting area, decent coffee, and free WiFi. They have always been relatively fast on their rotations as well. Plenting of shopping in walking area if you are tired of waiting. Staff is always professional and courteous. Oh yeah, I hear they price match as well. Take them a quote form somehwere else and they should match it. read more

I recently just bought a set of tires from this shop. I had received a email from them after requesting a quote on the price and went in and had the tires mounted. No hassles or added on prices, just what I was quoted out the door. The other reason I went back to this shop is months ago I had a flat on my old van and the spare was no good. I walked into the place 30 minutes before closing and they mounted a new tire for me and got me out of there before a big snow storm hit. Grease spots on upholstry. They used Clorox wipes to try and cover it. Grease spots remain and they refused to pay to clean it. Left a white stain on upholtry from the bleach. Purchased 4 tires with warranty and one tire went flat and had to be replaced out of town. I called them, they acted like they had no idea how to make the claim and get the tire cost refunded. Walmart had to replace the tire and were very helpful. I will buy my tires at Walmart from now on. There is no advantage to going to specialized Tire dealership except for paying higher costs and receiving grease spots on your upholstery. Horrible customer service personnel and very, very long waiting times for service. Always promoting things to change and free tire rotion that takes 2 hours plus. I do not call that free. read more

I visited the Valparaiso Indiana location on Wednesday September 12, 2018 for a set of 4 tires. I was informed that 2 of my low pressure sensors were in need of being replaced, I said okay for those to be done. While waiting they said I needed other work, which I declined to be done that day. I was not updated other than things they said needed to be done to the car. I waited THREE HOURS for my tires to be put on, which were supposedly in stock at the time. I was told the sensors would be there before the new set of tires were ready to be put back on the car. I waited, and waited. after THREE HOURS, I asked if it was almost complete. I was told that they were almost done, just needed to tighten the lug nuts and do the alignment check. I declined the alignment check, as I had been there double the time I should have been already. I paid my bill upon completion and I left. One week later, Wednesday September 19, 2018 I saw that on a drive I had lost a hubcap to my car. I have never had this issue in the 4 years I have owned this vehicle. I went into the store and they said they would order it and it would be in quickly and I would receive a call when it was in. Thursday September 20, 2018 I called to find out it was in, I went in, and it was not a match to what was on my car. They said they would get that corrected and contact me via phone. Friday September 21, 2018 I had not heard anything, so I called in once again. I was told the hubcaps that came on the car when I purchased were not stock, and they could not find a match. They said they would order a set of 4, so they match and would contact me the following Monday or Tuesday. I never heard from them on Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday September 26, 2018 I called in to ask for an update- I was told the same information as I was told the previous Friday. I told the manager I had already been told this, and the lack of communication was baffling to me. He said he would have a set in within that hour to replace on my vehicle. This time, it was true. Once they were replaced, I asked the manager what he could do to make up for a simple set of 4 tires turning into such a headache. He wrote on the back of his business card "one free semi-synthetic oil change" . Got a flat tire in Valparaiso. Went to Levin Tire to get new tire. They didn't have my tire in stock and said they needed to order. I asked how long it would take, Roy said he would have it at the store the next day in the morning or 1pm at the latest. I said I live in Illinois, I need to be back in Illinois tomorrow by 4pm at the latest as I have a meeting. Roy said "that will not be a problem." Long story short, the tire didn't get to the store until 4:15pm the next day. When I spoke to Roy, all he could say was sorry. I said that doesn't help me. Had you been honest with me the day before and said you aren't sure when the tire would get to you I would have made a different decision. I missed my appointment, lost a customer and money and all Roy could say was sorry for the confusion. To be clear, there was no confusion. My timeline was made very clear - he said "it will not be a problem". To top it off, my rim was filthy after they replaced the tire and they failed to put a valve cap on. There are plenty of Tire Shops in the area, I would stay away from this one. read more

The week before i also had a alignment done at a different car place than Levin Tire. Why'll i was Waiting getting my tires installed the big guy comes up and says were gonna put a alignment on your bill. For $80,we had our guy check and your alignments off. I said really i just had it done the week before. The guy didnt say nothing . I told him its fine not to touch it. Been driving enough to notice uneven wear or tires peeling pieces but there is not any at all. My alignment was fine and he was just trying to cheat me out of alignment money.
