There was a wait but it wasn't too long, however they don't have a list so you have to wait inside and hold your place in line. The food was really good and come out fast ! And the parking lot is a complete overcrowded disaster waiting to happen.. this place is in desperate need of new management and a renovation. Terrible service and food... very disappointing. I feel compelled to write a review about the experience my family and I had yesterday at Liberty Diner. It was truly awful. We are a family of 6 (3 adults, 3 kids), and we ordered 3 deluxe burgers, 1 pasta & meatballs, and 2 soup/salad bars. We also ordered wings as an appetizer. We waited almost 15 minutes for our drinks (5 waters, 1 soda), which was excessive given the fact that they weren't busy. The wings came out quickly and were hot and fresh. They were tiny, but that worked great for us. They were also nice enough to give us ranch and bleu cheese, and a nice amount of celery and carrots. No complaints on the wings! As we were waiting for the entrees, we noticed the staff remove the chicken noodle soup from the salad bar. We assumed they were re-filling it, as it was still early in the evening. When our entrees came out, the children's spaghetti and meatballs looked fine, a bowl of linguini with one large meatball. There was no Parmesan cheese, but other than that it was fine. Two of the hamburgers were "okay". They were cooked more than requested (which was medium), and appeared to be just heated frozen patties. One of the burgers (3 cheese deluxe), was a huge disappointment. The cheese wasn't melted, and it was missing the bacon and the onion rings. When my husband asked for the missing items, the waitress was clearly agitated, stating, "so what do you want me to do, take it away??". She took his plate away, returning with it a few seconds later with one barely cooked slice of bacon on it. We asked again for the missing onion rings, and to please cook the bacon and melt the cheese. She took it again, and returned later with a new burger (with melted cheese, and onion rings), but the same piece of undercooked bacon on it. He didn't say anything else, but found his burger to be rare when he bit into it. Very poorly handled and very disappointing. While all of this was happening, my son and I went up and made salads. We found the soup hadn't yet been replaced, but we wanted to start with salads anyway. The salad choices were okay; nothing overly exciting. After we completely finished two salad trips, we asked the waitress when the soup would be back, and she (again agitated) states they won't be refilling it! Why wouldn't she have told us this!? I asked what we could do, and she said, "well I could bring you soup form the kitchen if you want it". I said we do... that's why we ordered this (??). She asked how many, and we requested two cups each. She brought a tray of 4 cups of soup and literally put the entire tray on our table without saying a word and walked away. She didn't serve it, didn't give us spoons, didn't apologize for the trouble. Nothing! Two of the cups of soup were fine, and actually were very good. The other two had tiny black specks floating all in it, and on the side of the cup, so we didn't eat those. Not one apology for any of this. Not one drink refill, either. Nice place, clean, friendly. Nice location. My daughter had a wrap that she said was very good and the fries that came with it were also good. Listen up friends: it's 10:30pm Thursday night in Liberty, NY and you've just finished your first Creative Residency with 13 other artists none of whom are local and there are a LOT of FEELINGS happening, and no where to take them to. It's time to unwind with the comfort that is diner food and diner vibes. We ordered a bunch of delicious feel-good-food including humongous french toast with whipped cream and berries, large orders of regular and sweet potato fries, nachos grande, a ridiculous amount of both fried pickles with ranch dressing (omfg if you've not had this before get to it) and fried zucchini sticks (vegetables are important!) with marinara and of course, a gin martini with olives (my drink-my way) for me. I think others might have had selzer and tea. Make of that what you will. Even though the spot was nearly deserted because of the late hour but our service experience was solid gold. We were well-cared for by the staff and one of the waitresses, Cheryl??? (the sort of individual who really should run for municipal or federal office) was amazing. We got to chatting and she shared that in winter months, when upstate NY weather gets crazy, the diner stays open well into the early morning hours as a warm and cozy gathering spot for those who have to work during storms, either plowing or doing other useful things to make the season safe for all. Not only is that a super cute story, it's always special when a business conducts itself like a solid gold neighbor, right? BTW: the decor is full on 70s high glamour in the main space with a barstool counter and booths--mirrors galore, excellent Bob-Mackie-ish glittery pendant and sconce lighting, and lots of shiny accents which made us, who had been living on an organic farm for the past two weeks, feel quite fancy. The adjacent dining space where we sat to eat was equally elegant if more subdued, in maroon and dark wood. If you find yourself in Liberty and need diner vibes with a side of full-on-Celine-Dion and fried pickles with ranch dressing, get yourself to this place, pronto. I love diners. Why? Because I'm Greek, and Greeks ARE diners (at least in the Northeast). You always know what to expect at one, and the Liberty diner is no different. The service is very friendly and our waitress took time to explain multiple items on the menu. The prices were reasonable too. There was a salad bar with standard items and the soup was OK. All of our meals were satisfying but not 5-star stuff. We were there for dinner, so I can't comment on any breakfast food. I've come to review YOUR OVER THE PHONE SERVICE ONLY! Because I'm about tired of the same thing all the time. I'm a waitress myself so I do understand some things and try to cut some slack but at the rate I'm fed up. I took the name of a girl named COLEEN. Because her attitude was beyond me. It all started when I wanted to place an order for delivery and she didn't take my number nor apartment number as these are some key things you need for a DELIVERY ORDER. Well she DIDNT take this info because she proceeded to say "give me your order" in the most demanding, dragged out, bitchy tone possible. I was so taken back I just wanted to click the phone and not give my business to them. I tried to remain calm and again understand as a waitress the food industry is difficult and it was most likely a rough day on her. Fine. I FINALLY got through my order with her huff and puffs here and there. I was fed up and wanted to be over with it. I then asked her for my total. (Again I like to have things prepared to make everyone's life easier and perform a smooth transaction.) She then releases yet another dramatic breath before explaining to me that she now has to "add it all up" and " do I want to wait for all of that" like I've asked her for the most difficult task for man. Like yes! Add it up girl! She then tosses the phone down and disappears for a minute or so just to come back on and tell Me that my total is 22 dollars before tax. Asking her with task was another bratty bitch fit. She then proceeds to tell me that "it's too much for her and her computer" or whatever the fuck she was giving me for an excuse I was over it! ITS NOT HARD TO PRESS +8% ON A FUCKING CALCULATOR! I was so over it I decided to do that part myself. After that hot mess of a show I asked her for her name because I was appalled and wanted to report her actions the very next day. But that's another story worth a crock of shit. Moving on, she then replies in the same bitchy tone this time louder "my name Is Coleen! I'm the one who delivered your food last night!" Fine. Number one, I don't give a shit. Number two, if that's why you didn't take my info and completely ignored my first question to give you the info you should have nicely explained that in the first place instead of catching an attitude so abruptly.... again I'm sorry to ramble. This place is right off of 17. Good for a quick stop if you don't enjoy fast food. Their menu is super cheap. They give out free refills on coffee. The service is good here. They have a wide menu selection. Although it is just alright, nothing that great. The staff is really nice and it isn't a long wait for your food. Two of the waitstaff got into a shouting match in the restaurant, resulting in one punching the other and the cops coming to the scene. Following this, it took an hour to get our food, and our waters did not get refilled one time. The same was true for all other customers--people were looking around and one guy went and stuck his head in the kitchen to see if anyone was back there. The food was mediocre at best. The night before, some locals recommended that we try Roscoe Diner and told us NOT to come to Liberty Diner. We chose the convenient option and cannot recommend it.
