We originally came here after finding out Victoria's Diner was not doing dine-in. The parking was packed to the brim, and we had to do street parking. We had trouble finding the menu items as there was no paper menu. Instead we had to look at the board or online. Online, there is no one website that has the price and they are out of date. The food itself was OK. The onion rings felt undercooked and the batter itself was meant more for shrimp. The bacon itself was s little too crispy. read more

This place is fun! My partner and I came in for lunch on a Saturday. There were regulars having fun, singing to music, drinking beer. Liberty diner is a community institution in Roxbury, truly embraced by the neighborhood. It is a true hole-in-the-wall for those who savor such places, as I do. Offering breakfast, lunch or dinner any time of day, it has a wide variety of diner offerings. I have had breakfast at Liberty and fish and chips on my most recent visit. The breakfast was excellent and the fish was good, but not memorable. It also has a full bar, for those wanting a libation with their meal. Rob was behind the counter on both of my visits with complete command of all customer requests. The man is highly efficient and very personable. For those, like me, who frequently need to kill some time after delivering someone to an appointment, it has off street parking (10 spots ? a rare and highly valued commodity in Boston. When we walked in, our initial impression was that it was a bar. But the name on their sign clearly states "Liberty Diner" which we decided to take at face value. Come in and take a seat. There's a number of tables for 6 along the wall facing the street, while a bar/counter lines the inner wall. Service is friendly enough, but quite casual. Their menu is listed on the boards posted up on the wall. One for lunch, one for breakfast, and a smaller whiteboard which listed a number of seafood dishes on our visit. We ended up sharing the pancakes with one side $7.50 (corned beef hash please), and chicken fingers with french fries $7.50. I wasn't sure if the pacing of the dishes were more due to the fact that we had ordered the first a couple of minutes ahead of the second, or if the chicken fingers just take longer to make than the pancakes. But we were sharing, so what evs. Their pancakes were fluffy and arrived as a stack of three, with butter on each. Their syrup arrived in an Aunt Jemima type bottle, but without a label. The hash were made up with more tiny diced potatoes than bits of corned beef, but it was tasty, not overly salty nor oily. The chicken fingers were white meat with a soft crisp coating. They counted 4 and sat on top of a pile of thin cut soft crisp fries. Notice a theme? Yes, me too. They did have the honey mustard I asked for, which was appreciated, while my DC preferred the old classic - Heinz Ketchup. Limited private parking available, but if you read the signs you can probably find parking on the street as well. Credit cards accepted ($5 or more please). read more

Went here for lunch on a weekday. Family of 5, with 3 kids. It's a bar-vibe the whole way through, but that doesn't mean you can't bring your kids. Typical American diner food, and it was good and came out fast. We enjoyed the staff and patrons. We aren't local so we found this place on Yelp searching for lunch nearby. There were half-naked women on the wall, a VERY large bar that the server had to go around each time, and old tiles on the floor. Definitely a greasy-spoon joint. But the food was worth it. Amazing coffee. Even better pancakes (light, fluffy, warm). Toast was perfectly buttered. And the service was very fast. Prices weren't bad either. Quite possibly the greasiest greasy spoon in the city of Boston. This place could use a serious cleaning...as in someone coming in with a steam hose and spraying everything down. Housekeeping is definitely not this place's forte. My omelet and my boyfriend's breakfast sandwich were both large and delicious. The side of grits was also generous and great. The restroom did show a little wear for age, but was clean and fresh. Really nice local diner. Low prices, good quality food, and friendly service are a winning combination that this diner has mastered. It definitely has that middle of nowhere diner kind of vibe to it, like a rundown iHop that's inhabited by friendly ghosts. I got the pancakes with a side of butter grits, and some orange juice. My dad had a double decker grilled cheese with bacon that I had a bite of. Pancakes were well made, the grits were superb and came in a much larger amount than expected. The orange juice was typical from a carton. The bacon in the double decker was crisped to perfection, such that I wish I could have had it separately. There's plenty of televisions showing different stations, as well as their own modern jukebox (you can pay with credit/debit card). You can tell most of the people who come here are regulars, and rightfully so. As cliché and pretentious as it sounds, the diner has a local charm to it that makes it feel very homey and indie. It might not be a looker from the outside, but this is truly a case where character and substance trumps looks. read more

This diner was great. The sign outside is so small-if you blink, you'll miss it. Once you get inside you're free to sit where you please and the menus are placed above the bar. The menu is short and simple-has all the basics. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The food was great, we especially enjoyed the pancakes. The ambiance is very cozy and "mom and pop"ish.
