As a female I truly wanted to find a class to teach and certify me in order to protect myself. However the response from this organization was well under par. After (3) emails and phone messages, I was finally contacted back and told that the instructor (female) would see what she could do to help me to find a class which was in proximity to my location. She never did..... I was just left with nothing. No follow up no email no phone call. It was terribly disappointing and definitely put a bad taste in my mouth about pursuing certification. After you're truly hyped up about being part of a class of females to feel more comfortable and at ease my enthusiasm was soon diminished by the lack of professionalism in following up. I understand that we all have other responsibilities in our lives and things happen and come up. However if you're going to be in business I feel that there should be a certain amount of accountability that you owe to the public. Otherwise you shouldn't publish misleading information giving the impression that you're going to follow up. Because after a reasonable amount of time after I've reached out number times the end result was that you dropped the ball again and failed me. read more

My husband and I, along with 3 friends took the Skills, Drills and Scenarios class with Ron Givens this weekend. He was very thorough with assessing our skills and giving each of us feedback at the beginning of the class. We moved into several static target shooting drills. We then worked on scenarios, where Ron set up several "rooms" where we made entrance and cleared the room before finding the paper target "perpetrators" who were holding a paper target "hostage". We finished off the class by working some speed drills using steel targets at several distances while being timed. The class was exactly as advertised...skills, drills and scenarios. Ron was very thorough in his safety briefing at the beginning of the course, as well as explaining his credentials. Interlaced throughout the various drills was a lot of very helpful tips for each of us on how we could improve our skills and tactics. He was very patient in working with all of us, but me in particular as I was the least skilled out of our group. I never felt belittled or discouraged. You could tell his only intention was to help grow each person in their skill level. We are all looking forward to taking more classes in the future and couldn't recommend Liberty Firearms Training more highly! read more

I recently took the 16 hour CCW training class with Guy. I found Liberty Firearms Training through a Google search when I first started looking around for folks that do this sort of thing. LFT had great reviews so I shot them an email inquiry on the course and pricing. I got back a very lengthy and thorough description of the class and the price to take it from Guy. I was very impressed with the opportunity to have one on one firearm instruction for the whole day so I booked the class. The first day consisted of an 8 hour indoor classroom setting with Guy and 2 other classmates. We pretty much went over all of the legal and situational aspects of the CCW Permit. There was a lot of interactive Q and A throughout the day, I learned a lot more than I thought I would. The second day was the day at the range, Guy pretty much got a feel for how much I Knew and didn't know right off the bat, told me the rules of the range and away we went. We started out with the basics, a slow draw from the holster to fire, by the end of the day I was drawing from the holster running and firing at multiple targets... So much fun. Guy goes through every situation you could possibly think plus some. I can tell you by the end of the day you are flat wore out, I think I shot somewhere around 600 rounds. I would highly recommend using LFT and guy as your instructor, I look forward to taking his more advanced courses. read more

I am a beginning-to-intermediate shooter and recently scheduled a private, one-on-one lesson through Liberty Firearms Training. I was thoroughly impressed with the experience. My instructor, Larry, was top-notch. Even though he's expert shooter who has previously served in the USMC and as a rangemaster, I found him to be totally non-intimidating and highly encouraging. He was able to offer suggestions and advice on everything from cleaning products, to CCW, to holsters, to IDPA, to diagnosing a defect with my pistol. Through a variety of drills and exercises, tailored to a shooter's needs and ability, you will come out of the class with exactly what you want. Safety is highly important, but if you've got that down, most of the time will be spend trying to improve speed and accuracy. I practiced supported and unsupported, strong hand and weak hand, kneeling and behind cover. Before I could blink, we had gone through over two hours (and 200 rounds). The staff is fully professional, well experienced, and highly credentialed. I trained with Ron, and met Guy; both were patient and superb men with a lot of knowledge and experience in firearms and gun safety. I'd recommend training with them first if you're considering owning or further practicing with firearms; I'm glad I did. They like to keep training groups small with a maximum of two people, with an option to reserve individual training sessions. This made for a very effective learning experience that always felt comfortable and safe (and fun!). I did the beginner pistol course as it was my first time handling firearms. Scheduling was done via email and was prompt. The course began with an informative tutorial on the history and evolution of pistol technology and ammunition types (i.e. why certain gun mechanisms and ammunition types were developed and how they pertain to personal defense) as well as a very useful session on gun laws and self defense scenarios (i.e. what to do and watch out for). We then went through dry runs for magazine loading and best safety practices. The rest of the session was dedicated to learning how to operate a variety of pistols and practicing firing them. By the end of the session, I felt like I gained a lot of insight on how to operate a pistol effectively and safely while being able to be more discerning about gun quality and usage in self defense. I took the beginning pistol course with Mr. Auxer recently and was thoroughly impressed. It was an absolute pleasure to be instructed by someone as knowledgeable, experienced, patient, approachable, engaging, and good-humored as Guy. The class was held at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center in Sloughhouse. The day started with Guy unpacking his arsenal of pistols. After an explanation of the mechanics and a little history of each firearm we started throwing lead down range. We began with a .22 pistol; Then the following: a .38 special, 9mm, .45 acp 1911, .357 magnum, and all the way up to a model 29 S&W .44 magnum (the gun used by inspector Callahan in the movie, "Dirty Harry") After that bit of fun, I pulled out my own gun that I had brought with me. We focused on proper grip, sight alignment, stance, trigger pull, shooting from the hip, shooting while moving and various other essential techniques. I learned so much in such a short period of time it's mind-boggling! I plan on taking his CCW class as soon I get an appointment for my concealed weapons permit application with Sac County Sheriff's Dept. If you want the best, go with Guy. Impressive! That is how I would describe Guy and Liberty Firearms Training. I took the basic pistol class with my husband and not only did we learn a lot, but we also had a very fun day doing so. Guy was patient and encouraging. He had a huge arsenal of weapons that we got to fire and I found my perfect gun! This review is long overdue. I took Guy's 2-day CCW course in June 2014. The 1-on-1 training and instruction was invaluable. There are other very reputable CCW courses offered in the Sacramento area that I've considered before pulling the trigger on Liberty Firearms Training. The tipping point for me was the combination of his experience, training method, and coaching. Carrying a concealed weapon is a weighty responsibility -- don't skimp on training that gets you through by the "skin of your teeth." If you pass his CCW course -- you've basically passed the CHP's qualifying course of fire for their officers. 'Nuff said. read more

I've shot some pistols and shotguns a few times with friends, and have always wanted to pursue it more. I just moved to the area and decided now's the time. I actually found LFT through a local adult ed course book, but went to their website directly for more info. It has good information and gave me the confidence in them to sign up for the Beginning Pistol course. Arranging the class was done via email with Guy, and it was very pleasant and easy. With the rains, the course location was moved, and Guy was very good about communicating the change. Once at the range, the first part of the day was spent mostly in conversation with Guy about our reasons for being there, the fundamentals, Guy's experiences, the basic history of guns, and several other discussion points that lead off from those main topics. It was a casual, non-classroom atmosphere, which made it less intimidating. As he discussed each gun, we were able to handle them, which was great in solidifying what he was saying with seeing and feeling it in action. After a lunch break, we got to fire all the guns we just talked about. During the discussion we went over grip, stance and aim, so at the actual targets with guns in hand, Guy offered corrections and modifications as we practiced. Again, it didn't feel like drill training.. it was more about getting used to things without over-thinking it. It was great fun to shoot all those various guns. But even though we got around 100 rounds off, it was almost too many guns to get a really good feel for any one of them. (I know, a tough problem to have.. and, I did like the Sig Sauers..) Guy sent several handouts before and after the class, which reinforced everything we discussed during class. Now that I have a load of good information, I'm ready to find my first pistol. I highly recommend training with Guy at Liberty Firearms Training, and would certainly work with him again. read more

I met Guy at Wild Bills and was impressed with his knowledge, calm demeanor, and his patience. Hubby and I signed up to take the beginning firearms class and Ron ended up being the instructor. What a great twist of fate! Ron was an excellent instructor. He had the same type of demeanor. The class was SO educational! We learned safety, parts of the firearm, California laws, and my favorite: the history and development of firearm as and ammo through the years. When it was time to fire, Ron made me feel safe and made it fun! We fired a ton of different arms and calibers to see what they felt like. I just completed the beginning pistol class today and could not be more pleased. Ron Givens was my instructor and did a fabulous job with this day. We started with a discussion on the history of guns and the ties to military and law enforcement uses. The evolution of the revolver to 1911 and then onto today's semi automatic current technologies was a fascinating history. The nice thing is that he has all of the guns in the history story to show you (and shoot). After the morning discussions it was time for some hands on experience. We discussed proper spacial awareness and handling the gun as well as loading the revolvers/magazines depending on the gun type. We used dummy bullets in real guns which was great. Next we got to shoot 10 or more guns all of various calibers starting at a 22 and culminating with the 44 Magnum, "Go ahead punk, make my day!" Extremely cool. It is interesting to shoot many different gun calibers in one day. I have not yet bought a pistol, and now I know exactly what I want which is great. I can also speak intelligently at the gun dealers after this day. The hands on training was top notch and extremely insightful. Ron was so good at understanding where my initial errors were and why I was encountering them. He always knew how to get me to make the correction. We ended the day with 100 rounds of my favorite gun of the day which was a blast. I shot over 200 rounds in this day. I am so happy I choose Liberty Firearms Training and had the pleasure of meeting Ron. I will be back for some private 1 on 1 lessons once I purchase my first pistol which will be by the end of March. I feel safe and competent to buy my pistol and go to any range and fire it as well to protect my family, all in one day. My husband, a few work friends and I took the beginners course. First few hours were classroom instruction, followed by a couple of hours on the range. My husband wanted me to become more comfortable with guns. As a beginner it is intimidating and difficult to learn from a spouse. My husband found Guy and scheduled a class and it was just the three of us (Guy, my husband and myself.) Living out in the rural part of the county I have always wondered what I would do if I had to protect myself or my family from a violent encounter. Response time for law enforcement to our area is 30-45 minutes. My husband is a fireman and frequently gone for work. My boyfriend and I took the Beginning Pistol class with Ron recently, and were very impressed. The class first went through the history of firearms and then we had the opportunity to do some "dry practice" and practice actual shooting. The private class was fantastic and full of opportunities to go at our own pace and ask as many questions as needed. The opportunity to try out shooting different kinds of firearms and then having the chance to do an extended practice with the gun of our choice afterwards was great. Beginners class for women was AMAZING! Jean made us comfortable and confident! She was very knowledgeable and even went over a brief history of guns with us. One of the best things about this class (besides learning how to safely use a gun and the laws) she had us use a few different hand guns. That way we knew what we liked and what really felt right for us before going out and purchasing one. She goes above and beyond- offering to meet us at the range when we go for the first time if we are nervous about it and to contact her with any and all questions we have. She was just so great! I've had defensive pistol training before, but never CCW training. Liberty Firearms was my first, and I am/was very satisfied. They taught me for a weekend, the instructor gave us all some much-needed lessons in state law and when it's actually permissible to defend yourself (or even threaten to do so), and a very good reality check that I'll never forget: just how long it takes to bring a weapon to bear on a group of aggressors coming at you from 50 feet away.
