We enjoyed our time at the Liberty Taproom. They have an extensive list of craft beers so for those who love their craft beers this is the place to be. Their food is better than most here in Berks County. We had the Crab Pretzel, Poke Tuna and Cheese Steak. Out of the 3, I would recommend the Crab Pretzel because it is some different that you don't see at other restaurants. It is LOADED with real crab meat. At 9 PM on a Saturday night, the bar is packed three deep with twentysomethings waiting their turn. There's not an empty table in the joint and a DJ is playing... dance music? It all says they must be doing something right. With an advertised selection of 300 bottled beers available, the Liberty Taproom is a great place to go if you're a beer geek or if you have a friend who is a beer geek. It's also not a bad place to hang out if you don't mind crowds and noise. Yes, it was very loud in there on Saturday night. I'm going to guess it's a bit more peaceful on a weeknight. I do take some issue with them being listed as a gastropub. I'm my mind, a gastropub would offer a finer level of food. The menu is fairly large, but mostly bar food; burgers wings, pizzas, etc. Nothing I could see that looked very special. If the Liberty Taproom is a gastropub, then Applebees must be one too. We ordered buffalo wings and quesadillas. Both were fine, but nothing to write home about. Despite the crowd, the service was very good. All in all, I'm glad to see a new local business that is experiencing success. I'll probably go back, but maybe on a quieter night. read more

If you are looking to run into some of your favorite locals or friends from high school, please look no further folks! This is the stomping ground for all Exeter locals near and far, as it it the only sufficient and well versed bar in the area. There's no doubt that on any holiday or major weekend you can find the Taproom packed to the brim with the local Exeter alum, especially on Thanksgiving Eve. It's a hit or miss as to whether they'll have a cover charge, but it is usually only when Threes Company is playing(and it's worth it). The beer is very well priced, and there is plenty to choose from. If you are going to the Taproom to have a Miller Lite you're either going to get drunk, looking to spend minimal money, or have an ulterior motive. You most certainly go to the Taproom to choose from their draft selection, draft list, or from the bottle room. How could you not? As well as great beer selections, they also have a great menu. Do not expect just your typical bar food, from having a friend that was a server here, the chef carefully selects all the menu items and puts a great deal of time into ensuring that you receive a quality dish. I've gone on several occasions to their Sunday brunch and the food was delicious. The menu items for the brunch actually change with the seasons, so you can always try new things. If you choose to go to the taproom you will not be disappointed. Liberty Taproom serves delicious gastropub fare and an excellent variety of microbrews and imports. They have over 30 different beers on tap and 500 bottled beers at any given time. Living in the Reading area for the better part of a year now, and craft beers being a hobby of mine, I have traveled to many local bars and restaurants in search of greatness. After seeing what Reading has to offer, I can honestly say that Liberty Taproom has both the best beer-related events and draft/bottled beer selection to match. Recently, every Thursday, it seems like there is some event like a tap takeover or some hard to find beers featured on tap. I don't know the owners (Sherry &Tony), but from what I have seen, there is a great sense of pride and passion for their business. Best craft beer selection in Reading by a decent margin, with knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. They turnover taps quickly so far, so a beer there one day will not necessarily be there the next. Happy hour from 5-7 makes beers an excellent value. There are a number of TVs for those interested in watching sports, and the patio is scheduled to open early July 2011, which will make for a very lovely location. Food is above-average bar fare and has plenty of good options. It took over a local landmark of Nick's Chat-a-while, and seems to understand that there is a devoted existing clientele, so there is plenty of restaurant-style seating in addition to the bar area. All in all, a huge addition to Reading's craft beer scene and the Exeter/St. Lawrence area in general. read more

They were very busy, but service was fairly good. Beer was good, and food was good. I got the muffelata sandwich, and my boyfriend got the 1/2 lb burger. My sandwich was good, but nothing to write home about. BF's burger was tasty, but slightly overcooked. The wings were excellent. Next time we are getting wings and the muhlenboner, which looks good. Loved it! Went here over thanksgiving weekend while visiting my cousin. (Who completes the 200 beer challenge that night!) amazing selection of beers and a lot of rares on tap. This is a hidden gem in reading. Unexpected! The food matched the beer. I sampled a little of everything. The nachos are no joke coupled with fries and fried pickles. YUM AF! Great music too. I have been coming to Liberty since it opened a few years ago. My visits were sporadic but when I finally moved to Mt. Penn I started going more frequently and I am proud to say that myself and my boyfriend are PROUD REGULARS! Now, I have to be honest, I wasn't always super impressed with Lib. In the beginning up until maybe a year ago, I felt like the service was sometimes off, the food just ok, and the clientele could be a bit rowdy (which I am willing to let slide because it's a bar so it happens). I don't know what happened, but the place completely changed. Their menu (maybe a month or two old now) is to die for! Please do yourself a favor and order the falafel patty from the "make your own" burger section. I have never had such amazing Falafel before! I like their Sunday special which is a dozen wings and a pizza for $16. Delicious! I do think the wings are expensive on their own (something like $10 a dozen) but when you see the size of them, it makes total sense. I'm not really a beer person, but I know my beer snob friends enjoy their selection of craft beer. I can tell you that the wait staff and bartenders are extremely knowledgable about what is currently on tap and very willing to give you a sample. They are also some of the nicest people in the world. I have never had bad service in the year that I have been going. I love going Tuesday and Wednesday's because it is a bit quieter but Sunday afternoons and evenings are nice as well, unless there is a game on ;) Love this place, love everyone in it! read more

12.99 all you can eat wings in Monday's. Awesome deal! The food was delicious and there were so many beers to choose from. The kids enjoyed their food and it was a fun place to come. On the other hand our waitress kept disappearing and we had a really hard time getting her attention. We wanted a refill on beers before Happy Hour was over but she was no where to be found and because of some code the other waitresses couldn't help us. She did end up giving us $2 off one of the beers and gave us another beer free (without us asking), but it was a little frustrating that we could never track her down. Great idea: 32 brews on tap with a focus on craft beer! What could possibly go wrong? Nice building and a nice setup and vibe going on inside. Rectangular bar surrounding all those taps allows for plenty of seats at the bar. We only wheeled by because I love craft beer AND I heard there was a chicken wing special. On the beer side: out of 32 taps, two were colored water (Miller Lite or similar) and virtually all the others were heavy dark beers a result of the previous days "Annual Dark Beer Day" and were only available at a high price in a sippy-cup-size "goblet." C'mon guys, Dark Beer Day was YESTERDAY: normal beer drinkers might want something a little lighter. Note that the only non-dark beer was served in a 12 oz glass: a little small given that it was not particularly strong ("Hop Hands")...looks like a beer only smaller. Looks like only the dishwater gets a full-size pint. It's beer guys: put it in a beer glass. The chicken wing special on Mondays is "AYCE," which is an acronym for All You Can Eat (should have been obvious but I'd never seen it before). Turns out that deal is not shareable, so we just ordered a dozen between two of us. The wings were a huge disappointment. Dry like they'd been pre-cooked & reheated. We asked for "regular buffalo syle" - there idea of which is a heavly-vinagered pepper sauce with no detectable Red Hot or butter flavor. Maybe they're better when they're not "AYCE?" Only one of the three bartenders was good at his job. One of the others walked around looking at the floor instead of the customers and the other was bumbling and focused on conversation with regulars. I love places like this and most of the places I've been to are well-run and do a great job which is why we drove out of our way to come here. Two visits, two home runs. First, Matt (of the fantastic memory) was an awesome waiter, so everything flows from there. Homey, sports TV available - with sound - and not too crowded Sundays. There's a spot for live music although we haven't been there for such - it may occur. A full page and half on draft! Nice selection of 6-packs or mix to go. Food has been great for our group, but there could be some weak areas. Make your own sandwiches with lots of choices (always include bacon). Had a great time here last night. We went for dinner and drinks after a hockey game. We had Abe as a server and he was great! The place was jam packed and even with a lot of tables he was very attentive. Entrees aren't available after 9 pm which was fine I was happy to change my order to a burger. I like darker and more hoppy beers while my girlfriend likes lighter beers. Abe made great suggestions to both of us. We ordered the lobster cigars as an appetizer and they were surprisingly light and had great taste. My girlfriend had a calzone which she loved. The burger I ordered mistakenly was taken to another table. I was promptly informed of this by both the manager/owner? and Abe. It is a normal occurrence when a place is this busy and I was comp'd a beer which wasn't at all necessary but I was again told how sorry they were and it was the least they could do. We will certainly return here as the on tap menu changes regularly and both the clientele and employees are a joy to be around. read more

Music so loud inside she had to yell "keep the tab open" while we sit outside and it sounds like a club inside. Gave 2 stars for this visit cause historically we have had good service indicative of their good reviews. NOT today. Went to speak to a manager and of course none on duty. Order our last drink Tito and cranberry and it tasted like water. This bartender with this description worked behind the bar at 12:30 Am May 25, 2016. We got here May 24th around 11 pm. The food was good and the portions huge. I had the French dip and half the sandwich would have been an adequate portion. (That is what I ate). My daughter enjoyed the brisket sliders. We were surprised that the brisket was shredded as I typically see it in slices. Also the coleslaw was on the sandwiches but she removed it and asked for BBQ sauce. The downside was poor service. It was very slow (they were empty) and having to ask multiple times for things like a glass of water and the missing order of fries). The other waitress seemed more attentive. Also, despite many paninis on the menu they were out of panini bread so they were offering the panini not grilled and on either a brioche bun or a wrap. Today my girlfriend, the spectacular Miss T, and I both had work in the area and Yelp! led us to this gem. We happen to make our way here on what they dub "wing night" - all the buffalo chicken wings you choose to consume for a reasonable price of $10.99. That coupled with an extensive, exciting beer draught list made for a lovely evening with the love of my life. We enjoyed a smorgasbord of wing flavors. My favorite was their House Hot, whereas spectacular Miss T liked the Jack Daniel's the most. I have been here multiple times: happy hour, trivia, late night and each time my experience has been mediocre or less than mediocre. Let's start with the good. They have a GREAT beer selection. They have a revolving tap list, but they also have a beer room with lots of beers in cans or bottles. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I have found a beer or two here that I like. They normally do have some kind of live music, which adds to the atmosphere of the place. Along with the decor and the T.V.s, this place has a pretty cool feel to it. Moving down the list to the service. I have never had any complaints about the service. I've never had anything outstanding to say about it either, though. The service staff here does their job, nothing more, nothing less. Now comes to the parts that I have been less than pleased about. First, the food. I have tried to give this place a chance but it never manages to do the trick when it comes to food. I have had an greek appetizer here which if you're in the mood for hummus you should probably go somewhere else. As a matter of fact, if you're in the mood for any food you should probably go somewhere else. The thing that stands out in my mind was the garlic feta dip. It was green (???? We thought maybe because of cucumber but it was a weird mint green..) and it was runny. I have also had a pizza here which was hands down the worst pizza I've ever had. It took me back to the days of the school lunchroom, but I think even that was better. Comments from other people we have eaten with include: curried chicken potpie with 1 piece of chicken in it and horrible tasting sauce baked macaroni and cheese that wasnt baked at all, didnt include breadcrumbs like it said in the description, and it tasted like velveta The last thing I have to say about this place is about safety. The last two times I have been there some kind of altercation has broken out. The first time it was a huge brawl that fortunately got moved outside. You would think the cops were called, right? Well, you'd think wrong. The last time I was there a "regular" started a fight. You'd think they threw him out, right? Well, you'd think wrong, again. This place has the potential to be great, but hasn't quite figured out how to do so. My advice- fix your food and stop the fights. read more

We like this place unfortunately very inconsistent with food. I come here specifically for the shaved Brussel sprouts but ever time they are served differently. With the right cook these are excellent but odds not good. Usually over cooked or terribly seasoned. Otherwise, menu is good for Berks County. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We actually tried this place due to Yelp and it was well worth the trip from ourside of town. The wings are excellant, they make PJ Wantabees look and taiste worse then we all know they do lol . They won't be giving Liberty Taverns wings away at the wing bowl because they don't have to lol, they are too good to have to give away for free and they don't need the publicity ! We can not find one thing on the menu that is not excellant ! The beer was somewhat a surprise as less then cold but we like our beer extra cold so perhaps it was just us. A great place to eat any time of the day or week! We come here often, mostly for the wings and beer, but recently strayed and tried their burgers, and we were both impressed to say the least. Their burgers are big and juicy, with plenty of various toppings to choose from like shoestring onions, blue cheese and maple bacon jam (maple bacon jam!). Way better than some of the chain burger places like Red Robin. Rotating beer selection is top notch, with approx 40 beers on tap, always something new, plus their large beer room for take out. Live music on the weekends, nice outdoor patio area, and plenty of TVs to watch all your local sports. A favorite, highly recommended. The pizza is delicious and so is the hummus. The hummus is take-home worthy. There are televisions to watch the latest sports matches and games. Liberty Taproom has a an incentive program that you can join. You can drink a curated list of beers so that you can work up to be plated on the plaques on the wall. The highest honor is completing the challenging and getting a personal cup/ mug to drink from that resides at the taproom. There are drink specials for loyalty members/ members seeking to conquer the challenge. Liberty Taproom also offers a 6 pack and go selection. You can select a variety of domestics and imports and pay a certain price for the 6 pack. The outside seating during evening hours is a great time. It is peaceful from the fervor inside with gorgeous trees and an outside bar. The venue has a live lineup to check out. We like coming here for a casual night out, and it's nice enough for a relaxed date night, but we can also bring the kids without feeling out of place. Went last week and had the chicken wild rice soup and Bavarian pretzel to start- both were amazing. Stromboli was good. Pittsburgh salad was very good as well, steak came out very rare (asked for medium) but they were kind enough to bring a whole other salad with steak cooked medium for us. Kids meals were standard. We also got wings which seemed almost breaded, like fried chicken, rather than buffalo wings that we're used to. Very crispy but missed that true wing flavor. I've never tried the food here so I can't give it 5 stars but the beer selection is phenomenal for a place in the Reading area. I was impressed by the dogfish head 120 minute soaked in oak chips, 18% abv... I didn't even try it, just impressed that Liberty was on that level. I live out of town now, so I haven't been here often but I know they have a good takeout section too. I think they're "loyalty" program with the silver mugs might be a bit far fetched. You'd have to spend 500 dollars just to get 1 dollar off per beer, but hey, what do I know? Just keep serving up the delicious craft selections. There was a band playing here during my visit.
