We are back in Myrtle Beach and we took my sister in law here for her birthday. This visit is the same as every visit: excellent and a true fine dining experience. We were promptly seated for our reservation and welcomed by our waiter. The pace is relaxed and not rushed. The specials were mentioned and questions were answered readily. We had time to read the drink and wine menus as well as the dinner menu. We ordered drinks which were delicious and arrived in nice time. Again, well-paced and no rushing. Then we ordered our meals complete; the staff then paces so everything arrives at the same time for the table. As such, the ladies had the chicken and pasta dish while I ordered the steak au pauve. My steak is prepared table side so the timing of kitchen and waiter must be good so that the dishes are complete and served at the same time. They were. I also had a Cesar salad that is prepared table side and all salads are served with chilled forks. Salads were excellent as was dinner. They had the blueberry dessert and I stuck with table side preparation and had the cherries jubilee. Everything was so tasty. As usual, the meal was a lovely event and a wonderful time. To celebrate my friend's milestone birthday, I offered to treat him to dinner at Library Restaurant. We kicked off the night at the bar, where the mixologist clearly knows how to craft an exceptional gin martini. After a pleasant experience there, I settled the tab, and we moved into the dining room for the main event. Part Deux The menu was primarily New American but featured a few French classics, including (canned) escargot, Duck à l'Orange, and Duck aux Cerises. Our waiter talked up a new dessert--a peanut butter cheesecake with bananas foster flambéed tableside. While it was tasty, the $30 price tag felt excessive. Several reviewers on Yelp have mentioned a credit card surcharge; sure enough, my bill included a $10 "convenience fee" for using my card. Order Summary: Caesar Salad: $25.90 Escargot: $17.95 Bananas Foster Cheesecake: $30.00 Lobster Tail: $62.95 Rack of Lamb (6 chops): $79.95 Filet Mignon: $89.95 The service was good, but the staff could have been more transparent about the pricing. I've had less expensive meals at Le Bernardin. We were both pleased with our meals, the food was cooked exceptionally well. Also noteworthy, filet mignon is the only cut of steak available. The service was great on the interaction side. Michael is knowledgeable about what he knows. He helped with my kids during dinner. Even though he didn't bring the ice cream that he promised for my son, nor the lobster tail that he pushed during ordering and managed put on my bill, he tried to be very attentive and brought us bottles of sparkling water when they were gone though. read more

My friend wanted to take me out for a pre - birthday celebration dinner and who am I to refuse? I gave him a short list of restaurants and he chose the Library...which I quickly agreed to. We got there early to enjoy some happy hour drinks at the bar. The bartender was friendly with some great stories, but more importantly he knew how to make a proper martini. It was great. After a cocktail and a glass of 1/2 off wine we went to the host stand to be seated. The staff were very accommodating and polite. They hustled us to a nice sized table, gave us menus and took our water order(we had drinks already). Our waiter came back quickly and went over the specials. We took a minute to digest them and scan the menu. He showed up again in a few minutes and we put our order in. We decided on the table side Caesar Salad for two and the escargots(I had heard they are known for). My friend ordered the crusted lamb chops...rare and I went for the surf and turf with a 10oz filet. Interestingly, they only had filet mignon as their meat option that night, which worked well for me but might have been a problem for others. While we waited I was able to take a look at the place. It was a slightly modern layout with books lining the top of the walls and a large fireplace against one side. The tables were well spread out and each waiter has a section that was small enough for them to provide the service needed for a high end dining experience. The only issue I found with the ambiance was the dress of roughly half the patrons. If you are at a fine dining establishment and about to spend $400 on a dinner for two, you would like to be around people who aren't dressed as if they just mowed the lawn or rolled out of bed. I saw way too many "hoodies, jeans" and "baseball caps" for my liking. I could have been in a fast food restaurant. IMO, there should be at least some sort of a dress code. After a few minutes, we were treated to a soft, delicious hot roll with creamy butter as well as the escargots. The snails were perfect...flavorful with just enough garlic and super soft. My friend kept dipping his bread in the escargot sauce..it was that good. Next was the Caesar salad which was semi-made at table side(there seems to be some kind of law against raw eggs in a dining room). Although we didn't get the full show, the salad was great..the lettuce fresh and the dressing spot on...maybe a bit too much but still fine. After we finished our salad and apps the main course came out. My filet was cooked perfectly and was done exactly medium rare, soft and tender...no complaints. The lobster tail, which was also stuffed with shrimp and served with clarified butter was great. I looked over at my friend(which was hard as he was stuffing lamb chop after lamb chop into his mouth!) and asked him how his was and he was able to pry his mouth away from a chop to say "perfect". We finished up and the waiter began chatting up the desserts. I was stuffed but my dining companion wanted to keep going. He ordered one of the "specials" which consisted of a peanut butter cheese cake with bananas foster on top...we were in for another table side show. Within minutes our waiter wheeled the cart out and began lighting a fire. He quickly cooked the bananas with rum and put together this decadent concoction. He set up an extra spoon for me and I did sneak in a few bites...I could feel my sugar levels rising with just 3 spoonfuls...worth it though...it was that good. Afterwards the bill came and my friend graciously picked up the tab...it was not cheap, but worth every penny. Overall, it was a very good dining experience, the bar, food and service were great...5 star, but it loses a star because of the dress of the patrons which negatively impacted the dining experience. They really need to install a dress code because it is a fine dining establishment and everything counts at these prices. That food was so good that I will probably go back...maybe I'll wear a tux to drive home my point. read more

I love going to the library. Normally we just go for special occasions but we both had a horrible week so we celebrated. I had the best chocolate martini there. He had an old fashioned. Appetizers. You betcha. We decided to share the escargot. Delicious. I'm not sure if the snails are that good or the garlic and butter sauce. For dinner (as usual) he got the steak au poise. I ordered the duck l'orag. It was outstanding. Dessert? Yes please! We decided to share the bananas foster (prepared tableside.). I'm amazed we didn't start a fire with our clashing spoons. The pace was perfect, not a rushed experience, Jim was our server, and was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed the Filet Mignon special and Halibut Dinner, top notch quality, and Jim kept checking back for anything, which all was great. If you are looking for a higher end restaurant with top notch service and quality- this is the place. The appetizer (Seafood Trio) was amazing and perfect. We ordered our apps and that was the last we saw of our waiter we sat for about 15mins until we flagged one of the managers over and told him we still had not ordered our food and had no idea where the waiter was. There is absolutely nothing that needs improvement, it's a polished, professional upscale restaurant that starts from the welcome as you walk in. You know you are in a special place. Also, it's a small restaurant with few tables so you need to make reservations weeks ahead. The polished wait staff often makes many items table side. They also are very knowledgeable about wine pairings and cocktails. The food was all perfectly cooked and seasoned. The price for such an experience, 320.00 for two. Top quality food cost top prices. Will we be back? Perhaps, but not often. $320.00 is a bit much and we can get a good meal for less, even if it doesn't come with such a polished wait staff. read more

The Library is a great spot for a fine dining steak dinner. The ambiance is very intimate, unique and relaxing. It is not a large restaurant seating area, so if you are looking to go on a Friday or Saturday night, be sure to make a reservation on Open Table. All of the waiters are dressed in tuxedos, so you definitely want to dress up. My wife wore a dress and I had on khaki pants and a collared shirt. There were other customers dressed more casual, but it was also a Thursday night and the dining room wasn't full. I would recommend starting with the She Crab soup (excellent) or the Cesar salad that is made table side from scratch. The steaks are excellent. You can get a prime cut 12 ounce filet - a lot of restaurants don't offer filets that large. A couple of the steaks that you can choose from are cooked table side. We found the Library on a Yelp search (thanks fellow Yelpers because your recommendation was great!) for our anniversary dinner. Our experience was top notch from beginning to end! Patrick delivered the most incredible service--from his descriptions of the dishes to his care for our experience to his enthusiasm. If you have the pleasure of having Patrick serve you then you are in for an incredible meal! (The other staff we saw with guests were also super kind and great with their hospitality too!) For our meal, we selected the baked feta appetizer. It was delicious and the perfect start to the meal. I selected a filet with a port wine reduction sauce. The sauce definitely was worth the hype. I'd recommend saving some of your roll to dip in the sauce! The steak was basically silk, you can cut it with a butter knife. My husband got the duck with a cherry sauce. He was a huge fan! For dessert we ordered a bananas foster dessert. This was prepared table side and made for an enjoyable end to our meal. I am not sure we'll go back. At the price point, I cannot understand why the owners think it makes sense to add a credit card fee to the bill? Our bill for 3 people was well over $400 before tip and they added a credit card fee, like we're gonna pay cash. Come on man. The lamb chops were not as good as the last time I got them. The girls loved the filet of beef. The lobster I added to the lamb was some of the most tender and decadent lobster I've ever eaten. Dinner, a round of drinks, a bottle of wine, desserts, service charge and tip was nearly $600. I don't think we'll be doing that again. That an establishment such as this, the credit card charge is not in the interest of the customer and disrespectful. On the $80 lamb chop entree, the restaurant adds about $2.50 for me to charge that entree to my credit card. Talk about a bad business decision. The $2.50 won't buy a cup of coffee. My best friend & I enjoyed an amazing dinner experience at The Library Restraunt. Our waiter was phenomenal, making sure we were taken care of & happy but never too pushy. The food was outstanding. I wish I would have taken a picture of the Baked Feta appetizer topped with homemade tomato pesto, it was the best appetizer I've had! We order the seafood feature of seared halibut topped with lump crab meat, & a champagne lobster cream sauce. The flavors were great & the presentation beautiful. We were able to enjoy catching up with each other while not feeling rushed. I was so excited to try this place. I usually always write great reviews and not ever bad ones, however I needed to write this review. Cute quaint atmosphere. Reading reviews I knew that it was a more expensive restaurant however if quality of food and service is impeccable I do not mind paying. We were greeted at the door, and sat us immediately, we did have a reservation for 3 of us. We were asked if we wanted sparkling water, bottled water or "Myrtle Beach" water. Of course we ordered bottled water, which was $15. Then we ordered cocktails, unfortunately mine was spilled on top of my head, so I had to have my dinner with wet sticky hair. Accidents happen so I completely understand. He placed the 1/2 martini down anyway and I just said it's fine. I drank what was left. He charged me for that drink. Dropped my husbands one roll you get on the ground, did get a new one, hopefully it was a new one. We ordered the seafood trio for an app to share. It was ok, crab shrimp and lobster tails all cold with a tiny dish of cocktail sauce and tasteless butter. $90 for an APP. Our meals came out on a tray he was carrying, he stop at a table and cleared their dirty plates from their table and put them on same tray as our meals! DISGUSTING~Hubby had Filet it was ok, Mom had orange Duck, it was good, I had Lamb it was AWFUL. No flavor, dry, all garlic. We spent $700 on not great service, and lousy food. My wife snd I went with high expectations and a $15 off coupon about to expire. First, the restaurant is small and somewhat intimate which differs from many of the hugh factory type restaurants that frequent the Myrtle Beach area. The service was excellent until it wasn't existent at all, just disappeared. The wine was fine. The she crab soup was very good even though I'm not sure why they put slivered almonds in it. The side dishes were OK. The salmon was just OK considering the supposed quality of the restaurant. However, the shrimp scampi was a major disappointment. Do not order unless you love your shrimp swimming, I mean swimming in butter, and drenched in garlic, and lemon juice. Way over the top and not a delight. Would have told waiter if he had ever bothered to address us after our first bite. Having finished we waited for quite some time to receive a check and leave. The final downer, and a pet peeve of mine, though I know petty. The coupon was for $15 off of 2 entrees. The waiter reduced our bill by $15 rather than reducing the food and beverage cost by that amount. The result was we paid 11.5% tax on the additional amount. read more

Our waiter, Robert, was phenomenal, he told us about the history of The Library which further added to the intimate ambience and overall experience we had. The Meal was over the top...Halibut and Steak Oscar Filet were the best either of us ever had (the beef was so tender; you could cut it with your fork). The tableside Bananas Foster with homemade vanilla ice cream sandwiched between puff pastry topped off the culinary experience. We then went next door to 88 Keys Piano Bar and again we were floored by the talent of the performers (Ronnie and Daniel). Daniel sang Bocelli's 'Con Te Partir', which would have left even Andrea jealous, it was that good. The Library is basically a French resto. They mix your salad and make your dessert (i.e. the banana foster) in front of you for a nice touch. Duck with cherries was excellent; duck was cooked perfectly. Fillet was just okay (nothing really extraordinary versus going to, say, the Outback). Creamed spinach was a little on the sweet side. French beans with almonds, however, was good. The cocktails were not mixed right (mine was too sweet, my friend didnt have enough liquor in his). Service was great. If you're in Myrtle Beach and looking for a quick escape to finer service and French cuisine, you definitely don't want to miss this! I took my significant other here for his Birthday dinner and we had a 9:00pm reservation. Showing early was no problem at all as we were sat immediately in the main dining room next to the "fireplace" screen. Immediately, our server Ron came over to greet us and tell us a bit about the restaurant! We ordered a Boulevardier and a Martini to start. Both were absolutely delicious, however the bartender did not chill the Boulevardier and the first sip was warm. (to be clear, we were told she understood that it was not to be shaken, but was unaware it was supposed to be stirred to chill, easy fix!!) Nevertheless the taste was spot on and once it was brought to their attention, Ron kindly had the bartender make another the correct way! The She Crab soup was phenomenal and honestly, it was the Sherry that was the star ingredient in my book! The Escargot were delicious, juicy, and plump cooked perfectly. Do yourself a favor--EAT THE BREAD ROLL! Dip it in everything. The soup, the butter, the little pools of goodness leftover from the escargot....just do it. You'll thank me later. The Duck L'Orange was brought out and it's one of the most beautiful dishes I've ever seen. It was unique and very juicy! If you like a sweet/savory balance to your dish--go ahead and order this one! Last but not least, the Steak Diane. We ordered a 10oz and because it's prepared table side, the medallion is cut in half before it's cooked. The steak was so tender you just need your butter knife. Although I really loved the au poivre steak I had, I didn't really enjoy the experience here. There is an air of palpable stuffiness that never dissipates. Its one of those places where you almost feel grateful for each morsel of food you're given. One dinner roll, one potato, one sliced carrot, etc. The printed scroll of menu is cute but impractical, and the ambiance is definitely that of a library, but a private one I'd never want to spend time in. The actually steak was quite wonderful. The peppercorns really shone through and the meat was incredibly tender at a perfect medium-rare. The highlight was really the sauce, which without it, would have made for just a standard nice steak. And the table-side preparation was a fun, inviting, unique experience. The serving of vegetables as the accompaniment though felt cheap and unimaginative, something to complement the peppercorns or the sauce would've made the dish much more memorable. read more

Me and my girlfriend went to myrtle beach this past weekend and had a few places reserved, the library being one of them. Us being very excited to dine at the library, we arrived 10min earlier and for no reason! The guy at the front was VERY rude, did nit greet us and could care less about our reservation. He immediately said we were under dressed (i had a button up shirt, pants and shoes, my girl had a blouse pants and heels) mean while we saw a few in the dining room with plain t-shirts. So instead of us being seated in the dinning room he brushed us over to the bar.. needless to say we left and they put us as a no show in the opentable app. We drove down the street to New York Prime and had a great dinner there! read more
