We went to the Library Restaurant to celebrate my 60th birthday. When we made a reservation through OpenTable, we said the special event was a birthday celebration. When we sat down and the waiter came over and asked us if we were there for any celebration and we said yes a 60th birthday. He did wish me a happy birthday, but this is the first time in my life that a restaurant didn't bring over a small dessert as a token a birthday celebration. We ordered the twin lobster tails on a recommendation from the waiter and they were rubbery, definitely not worth the $100 plus price tag. My spouse ordered the filet, which was very tasty, but again, way overpriced. So, overall, food was just mediocre for the exuberant prices that this restaurant has. Our bill for two people with tip came to $500. Never again will I be stepping foot in that restaurant. There are too many choices in Myrtle Beach that offer fire superior food for a lot less money. read more

Not sure where to begin on this one. We had dinner on a Friday night so the restaurant was fairly busy. Some of the food was excellent and the rest not so much. This restaurant provides table side service for some of their dishes. Caesar salad, bananas foster.. Between the four of us we got two bottles of wine. 2 of us got a red and the other 2 a white. The server was quite knowledgeable about well just about everything. I guess that could go both ways. He provided lots of suggestions but unfortunately seemed perturbed if we did not take him up on his offers. We all ordered the caesar salad as it was to be prepared table side. It seemed like it could be quite delicious but unfortunately our server forgot to make it. We did not say anything right away as our entrees came and we decided to go ahead and start eating. Once we alerted out server that we never received the caesar salad he let us know that he would not charge us! Fantastic, we never got it so thanks. The steaks were prepared nicely, but the "free" carrots and potatoes that come with the meal are terrible. I'd just not give them to the guests as they are so bad that you forget how good your entree is. Interesting atmosphere but not sure I'd go back. We were told we must check out next doors piano bar. Great service. Great food. Sorry I forgot to take pics of food. Shrimp scampi was large portion and very good. Halibut special was good. Steak and shrimp appetizer special was VERY good! Steak filet special was very good. Great thing about taking the family is you get to try everything! Bottle #422 Pinot Gris from Oregon was very good. Even the grand baby's salmon was very good. Well, you go in for a nice, classy dinner at a venerated and well-established high-end restaurant that has been on your dining wish-list since you were 10 years old (1978) and you leave violated and wearing the green ghost slime from a resurrected used car salesman of the same era. In the beginning, the sparkling water I ordered was poured once and it was good, then the bottle disappeared forever into some astral plane unknown to the living and my glass remained empty. Watch out - IT'S A NONSTOP UPSALE. The lamb was overcooked, over-hyped, under-delivered, and under-seasoned. The steak was overcooked, and yes, we sent the damn things back. But not until an employee who was not our waiter came over and inspected the steak and then jokingly stated "Ah, I don't know, it's close." And I said, " Oh no, you aren't about to debate and negotiate this are you?" to which he replied, " I was only kidding". Right, you result of gripping a cactus. I will refrain from talking about my level of sophistication, which should prove my level of sophistication. These guys aren't even close to con artists, in fact, they seemingly have never dined in a place like the one in which they work. Which is understandable, because what they advertise versus who they actually are not at all alike whatsoever. So, basically, the place you may have read about does not exist. At the end of this Spanish Inquisition Torture Rack Fun, they did us no favors, deducted nothing, failed to apologize sincerely and hovered around us and generally made me want to yield a baseball bat. The sweet relief I felt was that of escape from culinary trauma, for the low, low price of close to $400 for two. The Horror, The Horror!! Decided to try for my birthday dinner. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it was a bit of a letdown. I moved to the area from Charleston and was really excited about the Caesar Salad. It was a little sweet, needed more anchovy paste and the lettuce was too heavily coated or maybe just a bit too sweet. The salmon was good, but again the creamed spinach was a little sweet. The carrots and potato had zero seasoning. The food was not bad just leaned toward the sweet side and these are not sweet dishes. The ambience was nice, room was very small. Service was good, but a bit overdone. We requested a split of champagne which is what my friend always gets and she got a standard glass. A split usually gives you a glass and maybe a few more sips, at the price we paid, she should have gotten the remaining bit. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as expected. If the price were a little less, the review may have been better, however for the price paid, I expect better. read more

The decor is very nice as are the staff. I started with the French onion soup. It was good, but not better than other French onion soups I've had. Next I had the Ceasar salad. AMAZING ! Prepared table side , I've never seen Ceasar dressing made fresh, and it was awesome. Don't shy away from that tiny piece of anchovy. Trust me dressing is awesome and not fishy at all. Next , I couldn't decide what I wanted so I ordered 2 entrees. The first was a daily special: Scottish salmon broiled and topped with crab and a creamy sauce. Sides were green beans almondine, and large slices of carrot. The beans were good but carrots were still abut crunchy. They tasted good though- they were flavored with orange and maybe a hint of ginger. Next entree was a menu item the steak AU poive ( peppercorn steak). The sauce was awesome. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out medium. They took it back and made me a new one and even made me fresh sides. Last, Bananas Foster served table side. Butter, brown sugar, juice from half a fresh orange and half a lemon sautéed to a bubbly Yum. Then the bananas and flambéd with 99 bananas and 151 rum. Cinnamon, orange and lemon zest ( which actually flame pretty cool). Then it's served over vanilla ice cream served between two pieces of puff pastry. Man.... This desert is lick your plate clean good! They can and will recork your bottle of wine if you don't finish it, but put it in your TRUNK. My friends and I are foodies, and we were excited to try this restaurant based on their table-side preparations. The restaurant was quite lovely, and the waiter was friendly. We ordered an appetizer that was "special" for that day - feta cheese Santorini. I have been to Santorini twice, so I was eager to try it. I ordered the French onion soup, and I am very picky about my soup. We also ordered the Caesar salad prepared tableside for all 3 of us. One friend ordered the shrimp scampi, and I ordered the Chicken Chardonnay. The feta cheese dish was truly nothing more than baked feta with a tomato-based sauce and some toast points. It tasted fine but I was disappointed about the reference to Santorini as it was not Greek-like at all. So, I like my French onion soup with the cheese flowing over the edges of the bowl and a rich broth. This was most definitely not that - there was barely any cheese on the biscuit and the broth was almost clear, it was so weak. The Caesar salad was the worst part of the entire meal. I have had it prepared tableside all over the world. I make it from scratch at home even. The waiter came over with the cart, but I did not see any of the usual accoutrement that comes with the preparation of the dressing. Instead, he started by grinding pepper into the wooden bowl. I looked and there was nothing else in the bowl. I asked where the anchovies were, and he told me an interesting story about "health code violations" preventing this due to the raw eggs. The night before we ate at another restaurant down the street from this one who also did tableside preparation of Caesar salad, and they prepared the dressing as expected so take that for what its worth. He brought out a small dish of already prepared dressing which was too little dressing for 3 salads and their croutons although they tasted fine were crumbly and coated the lettuce soaking up what little dressing there was making for a tasteless mess. The shrimp scampi was also a mess. The red sauce was bland and made it fun to get the tails off the shrimp. The angel hair pasta was so overdone that it was mush. The chicken chardonnay was basically chicken picatta with fatter chicken breasts. It was just okay. At this point we did not want to even try their desserts as the food did not recommend that. So, I asked for the bill and that is when the true fun began. I handed him 3 $25 Amex gift cards and my debit card. He proceeded to tell me that he could not run these gift cards for the full amount and the story he told was so full of inconsistencies that I was flabbergasted. He suggested he run them for $20 each and that I could "zero" them out by applying a $5 tip to each. So, I thought that was ok. That would be $15 dollars of the $30 tip that was suggested. So, I applied a $15 tip to my debit card and thought I was done. What proceeded was an amazing scam that I am ashamed to admit I fell for. He said the $5 tip I had applied would not go to him at all and he made it sound like that would be applied to the overall balance. So, I changed my receipt to out the entire tip on my debit card and just like that he conned me out of at least $20. I feel like such a fool. The food was terrible, and I overpaid - lesson learned - never ever eat at the Library Restaurant. read more

Visited with my friends yesterday and received the most exceptional service from Senatra. The food was great and the ambiance was so unexpected. I wish I had some space for dessert as I was eyeing that Bananas Foster. Had the She Crab soup, delicious, the duck with cherry, we shared some apps as well. Came here on a quick honeymoon trip and my hubby surprised me with dinner at the Library. Didn't know what I was getting into as we pulled into the strip mall, but we walked in greeted by Chris who pulled strings and gave us the private room. They peeled back a faux library stack door and there it was. What an awesome, special treat of a room! So special they did that for us and of course I cried. Everything from start to finish was beautiful, tasteful, and special for a night we will never forget. Our waiter Ron was also a reason we had such a great night. Thoughtful service and nothing was rushed (we closed the place down). I finally ventured into this restaurant after driving by it for over 10 years. From the outside it really doesn't look like much and that's probably why I never stopped in. Decided to Go here for dinner with my husband. Our waiter Brian was amazing he was funny and charming and made us laugh. Everything we had from the appetizers to the main dish were just amazingly delicious. My husband had lamb chops and I have never had lamb chops like this. I believe they're based in the US and not from New Zealand and they taste so much better than I've ever had in my life. The French onion soup the broth was full of different herbs And spices. Our server Ryan was a true professional. He made the night extra special just by doing his job correctly and with a flare. The setting of the place is dark and mysterious. Like a hidden door might be nestles somewhere within the small space of the restaurant. The main dining room was simple and elegant. I was impressed that the chef likes the entire order taken at once. That shows that the chef game is real. We started with French onion soup and escargot. Both amazing. A quick intermezzo course of raspberry sorbet and then on to the duck breast. We liked the recommendation from Ryan to have the fat crisp on the duck. The table side banana foster was super good. It did not even need the puff pastry! We definitely suggest stopping in to The Library if you are in Myrtle Beach area. On the way out the door, another server held the door, wished us a great night, and supplied us with key lime candy to enjoy on the way home. read more

Stodgy, dated, cheesy, located in a strip mall. Upon entry I was told to remove my "ball cap" before entering the dining room. It wasn't a ball cap, but a knitted, traditional head covering. I did. The Dining Room was lined with one shelf of books higher up toward the ceiling, purely decorative. A sliding bookshelf semi hid a tiny private party room. A rather vapid print of a landscape hung crookedly, over the main entry. Our table was next to a flat screen with a video on loop of a fire place, complete with crackle sounds. Really? A gas fire place, or nothing would be better imo. For a place that boasts its table service, I only saw it done for salads and desserts. Our waiter was distant, rather aloof and uninterested. We had drinks. The Negroni was uneven. The Manhattan was ok, but almost clear in color. I had Fillet Mignon, with sweet potato mash and sliced carrots. It was medium, but I'd asked for it to medium rare. Nice sauce. I passed on the garlic mash, because who needs two carbs? My companion had the trad Txgiving turkey entree, . We shared a seafood starter. No dessert. The the maitre'D visited every table except ours; there was no sommelier. An hour and a half from entry to exit. Meh! The hype doesn't hold up. It's just OK. We had eaten at their old location about 4 years ago and were looking forward to coming back. We were extremely disappointed in the experience this time around. The food was okay but overpriced for the quality. I have no problem paying $45 for a good steak but the food didn't measure up to our experience here a few years ago. Perhaps the most disappointing thing was that our waiter was borderline unethical taking up selling to another level. He pushed only the most expensive items on the menu, almost daring us to try anything under $45. He kept opening and pouring bottles of water without asking us if we wanted anymore. He even popped out after we had ordered and asked our friend if a 10 oz cut of the steak he ordered was "ok" with him, making it sound like that was the standard. Only after we got our bill, did we find out that we were charged an extra $14 for that cut ($56!) In addition to the four liters of water ($20!) we hadn't ordered. On top of all that, they served the worst cocktails I've ever had at a restaurant at this price point. I don't mind spending money for great food and a great experience, but this was neither for us. Avoid this place unless you just like to burn money for mediocre food and poor service! read more

Our first visit to The Library was about a year ago to the day, and my husband and I were blown away by the service, atmosphere, and meal. We both ordered the fresh catch which was salmon for me, and halibut for him. Both topped with a crab and shrimp topping. Bananas foster for dessert. We left feeling satisfied with everything and really could not wait to come back. Flash forward to this year's visit, and boy it was a let down. I'm not sure what changed within the year, but the service was sub-par, the entrees arrived looking very pre-made and plated until use(duck for me-2/5) and the halibut(2/5) for my husband. His plate looked old, as in the entree was sitting for awhile. My duck was rather tasteless. The bananas foster this go round was a hot mess. Our waiter couldn't get the rum to light and just kept adding more and more until he finally poured rum onto the open flame. Basically we ended up with hot bananas in a soupy, citrus liquid because there wasn't anywhere near enough brown sugar to caramelize. The atmosphere was also different. Patrons were more on the casual side of business casual, there were children in tshirts and gym shorts, and everything was loud. After that experience we left feeling like The Library tried to be a fine dining experience but it fell short and settled for whatever they could get in the door. read more

Service was exemplary. Although, one simply should not cook with copper pans and silverware. The atmosphere was a little confusing. For a $140 meal I would expect the musical ambiance to match. From a food safety standpoint servers needs to be more aware of when cross contamination occurs and how to better prevent it. I had a later reservation for my boyfriend and I, when we arrived we were greeted and sat pretty briefly. If reservations are made I do not want to see any candles being lit or any silverware missing from the table setting. Waiters do need to ask about allergies or food preferences before rambling about the "specials". Also, specials should not be listed on the menu. When a server begins reading the entire menu, the "fine" in "fine dining" is simply removed. Overall the experience was enjoyable but the cookie crumbles in the details. read more

I should've known this place wasn't very good when there wasn't a line and lots of empty tables. To start, the steak au poivre was prepared terribly. They do it table side in a pan. It's all for show with the flames but they don't get a good sear on it so it ends up looking like a Gray chunk. To hide that fact, they cover it with a mustard sauce. So, if you want smothered steak, sure. Otherwise, go somewhere else for a good steak. I also ordered the Swiss chalet for dessert. It's a chocolate Bundt cake thing. They came out with my coffee and this big glass of ice cream and poured chocolate sauce on it. I asked "Who is the ice cream for?" He said "you". I asked "That's the Swiss Chalet?" He said "yes". I asked "there's a chocolate Bundt cake in there?" He said "oh we stopped making that because it's too difficult to make". Umm OFCOURSE it's more difficult than scooping some ice cream in a cup! He finally asked after preparing it tableside while I questioned him, do you not want this? I said "it's fine" since it's ice cream that's been prepared ans can really go back anywhere. Took a few bites. It's vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and nothing impressive about either ingredient. OFCOURSE they proceeded to charge me for this item I didn't want and didn't eat. For their prices, they should inform the customer if they are out. This was completely poor etiquette for a $$$$ restaurant. I feel swindled. read more

Just returned from one of the dinners of my life! The Library is a small restaurant so definitely make a reservation. Our waiter, Josh Edwards, was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and the specials offered. We started with the mushroom appetizer. Delicious. Then I had the French Onion soup and my date had the salad. My soup was delicious. It wasn't overly rich and had a nice blend of herbs. My date enjoyed his salad. My entree of chicken and artichokes was wonderful. My date's salmon special just melted in your mouth. And the rolls with garlic butter were freshly made and were so good that we asked for another one. Overall it was a delightful evening. read more

We had a great experience dining at The Library. The service was excellent and the food was impeccable. I ordered the filet mignon and my partner ordered Duck a L' Orange. The Caesar salad was prepared table side and was also delicious. I ordered two dirty martinis with extra blue cheese stuffed olives and the cocktails were also on par with the quality of the food.
