    Miso Tofu Ramen
    Petra E.

This cute place is a short walk from Angell where we had to take our our dog three times last week. I got to try three different coffe/tea drinks all of which were amazing: 1. Iced vanilla tahini latte 2. Hot golden latte 3. Iced matcha latter These were seriously some of the best drinks I've had. Service was very helpful in selecting drinks and food. You order at the counter and get a number and can sit indoors or outdoors where they have a nice set up. The indoors is bright and clean. We also got a noodle dish that was described as Miso Tofu Ramen but was not quite what we expected flavorwise. It wasn't bad that seemed to have a little too much giner for a miso. The tofu on it, however, was very nice. I've gone to another Life Alive quite a bit (Lowell) where I got bowls of different types and it's they I prefer those to the noodles, but I'm pretty picky about my noodles. I would absolutely recommend this place if you are in the area or visiting Angell and have some time to kill. I think the iced vanilla tahini latte what's my favorite but they were all good and it's really too close to say.

Self service kind of place, where put your order, get a number, and there's plenty of water in glass bottles, glasses, utensils, etc. Pretty chill ambiance, wasn't super busy. Chili garlic noodles really hit the spot! You do get your money's worth, could easily eat half and save for later. Good amount of veggies and all at the appropriate balance. No photo from last time, but did have their spiced Chai shake and was really good, although bit pricey for what it is.

Super Berry açaí bowl with scoop of superfood fudge

I had a good first visit to Life Alive! I tried the Super Berry Açaí bowl with a superfood fudge scoop. The coconut texture was nice, even though I usually don't like coconut. The strawberries were very cold, though, possibly frozen. Others had chili garlic noodles and spicy peanut noodles, which looked yummy with large portions and colorful ingredients. Everything is vegetarian, with lots of drink options. The space is cute, with outlets and free water, making it a great place to study. Service was fast, and you leave your dishes in bins by the door, with a compost bin nearby for leftover food. I got a free drink for signing up for rewards, though it may not always be available. I recommend signing up for the rewards program!

Stopped by to catch up with a friend before seeing more of what the Boston area had to offer. At first, I was kinda saddened by the protein options, but quickly realized this wasn't my typical lunch spot. After getting over getting over my want for bacon, I went with the Autumn Chopped salad. Before ordering, you'll have to grab a menu on the wall (detailed), or order from the wall menu behind the counter. Once you order, you'll be given a table number. If you want water, you'll have to grab it from one of two water stations in the restaurant. Everything else will be brought to you by the cashier/waitress. My salad was a bit tastier than expected. Pleasantly surprised, I devoured it within minutes. As a person that usually eats meat as a primary source of protein, I wished there was more protein on the salad, but sometimes taste overtakes want. As far as space goes, it seems to be a good spot to get some work done or have a meet up with a few people. At some tables, you share a seat back with the table behind you, so it can get interesting if you're eating behind a person that moves around a lot. Overall, not too bad! If you want a healthier option with some good flavor, this is the spot for you!

Outstanding fresh food - hands down the best in the area! My wife and I had an absolutely fantastic meal at Life Alive. I ordered the falafel bowl and she went with one of their salads, and both dishes were incredible. The flavors were vibrant, everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the portions were generous. What really impressed me was the quality of ingredients - you can tell they use high-quality, fresh produce. My falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, paired beautifully with their grain bowl base. My wife couldn't stop raving about how flavorful and satisfying her salad was. This is honestly the best restaurant in a wide radius. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the food speaks for itself. We'll definitely be back soon to try more of their menu. If you're looking for delicious, healthy food that doesn't compromise on taste, Life Alive is the place to go. Highly recommended!

The best healthy food chain in Boston! You'll forget about meat after experiencing their noodle bowls and their smoothies are out of this world with creative combos and high quality ingredients. The chili garlic noodles packed the right amount of heat and umami flavor that worked well with all the fresh veggies. There were a lot of mushrooms in the dish which threw off the ramen a bit texture wise but if you eat them separately it worked out ok. The stars were definitely the smoothies though. They had a special spooky pumpkin spice smoothie that tasted like a citrusy chai latte. It has a bit of spice to it but the added foam and chocolate sauce to make the spooky face balanced it out. We also got the peanut butter chocolate smoothie which was heaven without the guilt. Out of all the locations I've been to, this is the most beautiful one. The warm inviting space with gorgeous decor made it feel like you were experiencing sunset as we enjoyed their delicious bowls and smoothies. There was plenty of indoor and covered outdoor seating that can handle large groups and kids. Parking is limited to street parking though. Service was great. Everyone was super nice and we got our food and drinks within 10 minutes.

Wanted to try this place out after waiting for it for most of the year. The decorations and interior are totally redone with bright and warm colors. There's plenty of space and seating, with booths and tables. There's outdoor picnic-table-style seating as well. We ordered and sat down, and grabbed our own mason jars and a glass water bottle. They also have diner-style sugar-shakers full of Nutritional Yeast, which I found pretty funny. Someone brought our food out pretty quickly, and it was yummy! My falafel bowl was tasty, and the falafel had a cirtusy flavor to it (timut peppercorn, perhaps). The Taco Verde bowl was also apparently good, and full of jalapeños. Food was well priced too. There were plenty of coffee/tea drinks, though we didn't get any - seems like an easy place to sit down and work, too.

Two employees were running back and forth filling bowls from the various ingredient stations, when it looked like having a third would have made things a lot more efficient. It gets even slower in this situation when you are crafting bowls. The line was almost back to the entrance. The cashier had her hands full too, occasionally having to step away for a few seconds. I was never asked about a beverage, I guess you have to speak up on your own. That's too bad for them as well, because beverage sales typically have a higher profit margin. Probably half of the people in the dining area did not have beverages. Also during busy times, it can be as tough finding someplace to sit inside as it is finding a space in the parking garage. Still, I did really enjoy my salad, though I think by default they give you more dressing than necessary. Having experienced that once, I'll know to ask for a little less next time.

We loved the music, lively atmosphere, and fantastic service as much as the killer food. The menu features an entire page of imaginative cocktails, each artfully prepared and presented. The Strawberry Cheesecake is one of Merai's signatures, and it actually looks like a slice of strawberry cheesecake. We started with the beautifully presented Golden beet salad, which was bursting with flavor from the Thai chili jam dressing, followed by the Grilled Caulilini. Similar to broccolini but from the cauliflower family, it was grilled and served with tomato-tomatillo relish, fish sauce, and finely grated Parmesan. We took the bartender's advice and ordered the signature Hot Dog, made with spicy krapow sausage and served in a toasted bun with salted egg yolk mayo and caramelized basil. I rarely eat meat, but I had to make an exception to try it, and it did not disappoint. I'm not usually a fan of fried food or rice, but I was persuaded to try the Chicken Rice, and all I can say is WOW! Chicken legs are stuffed with garlic rice and fried with caramelized fish sauce, creating a sweet, sticky, and utterly delicious crispy exterior. The chicken must be eaten by hand, and it was truly finger-licking good. I can't recommend Merai highly enough and will definitely be back. It's a small space with both bar and table seating, so your best bet is to reserve ahead.

I've only been here twice and both times it was unsatisfactory. The second time was not just…read moreunsatisfactory but actually very bad. The first time, I submitted my order on the kiosk. While I was waiting for my food, one of the cooks (Latino gentleman I think, didn't get his name) called me over from across the room and asked me if I wanted greens in my bowl. I couldn't understand if he meant in addition to the quinoa that I ordered or instead of the quinoa so I just said ok. I was surprised later to find that my bowl did not have the quinoa that I ordered. Why would he ask if I want greens instead of just reading my order? I called to report the issue and dismissed it as a miscommunication. The second time, I submitted my order online. It was about a $45 order (two bowls). While waiting for my food, I asked one of the girls (Latino girl, kind of big with curly hair I think) if my order was ready. She said no and asked me if I wanted chicken in my bowl. I said that all of the information was already in the order that I submitted online and paid for. By the time I got home, I noticed the protein in one of the bowls was missing: teriyaki seitan. I went all the way back to the restaurant and asked to speak with the manager. She seemed to already know that the food was missing and asked, "chicken"? And she said that I could not speak to the manager. She offered me a free dessert but I declined. Again, I asked her to read my order instead of confirming with me what I wanted in my order. She said ok and handed me a container of food. On my way to the car, I checked the container and it was buffalo chicken, not seitan. I told her that it was seitan missing, not chicken, and she apologized. She handed me the seitan and I went home. When I got home to eat my bowl, I noticed not only was the seitan missing but the chicken was missing. So both bowls were missing protein. Fortunately, I still had the chicken she incorrectly handed me the first time. To recap, I paid $45 for two bowls. Both were missing the proteins (the most expensive and substantial part of the meal). I went back and she failed to fix my order and refused to put me in contact with the manager. Overall, there seems to be a major communication gap and maybe an English comprehension gap in the staff where they are unable to understand what's being ordered, causing major inconvenience and incorrectly making what is priced as a premium meal.
