Live Organic Cafe was the first place I ate when I arrived in Salem, and it ended up being a great start to my weekend trip. I was looking for vegan-friendly options near my hotel, and this spot was conveniently close by. The menu had so much to choose from: bowls, handhelds, drinks, desserts, and more. I don't usually order iced coffees or teas, but the Blueberry Cloud Matcha sounded too interesting to pass up. It came out beautifully layered, with whipped foam on top, matcha in the middle, and blueberry syrup at the bottom. I noticed some people using straws, but I drank it without one, and it was delicious. The foam blended into everything perfectly while still keeping those pretty layers. My bowl came out soon after and was just as nicely presented. I especially loved the whipped sweet potato, which was such delicate touch. The bowl was also very filling, with lots of fresh, hearty ingredients, so I couldn't quite finish it--but it was satisfying and delicious. I visited late in the afternoon, around 3pm on a sunny Friday, and the cafe was still packed. There was plenty of seating, including cozy corners and brighter areas near the windows. Overall, it felt peaceful, relaxed, and very much like a community hub. If you're visiting Salem and looking for a vegan-friendly spot, this is definitely worth checking out. read more

I visited this restaurant off of recommendation from a family member and to be honest, I was hesitant because I am not a vegetarian and didn't know how the food was going to taste or how satisfied I would feel after eating here. You order at the window and they give you a number and bring you your food. I went with the rainbow harvest bowl. They truly proved me wrong! Not only was the food filling, but flavor was so prominent in this dish. There were also a lot of textures at play from creamy to crunchy and all in between. I never would think to combine all of these vegetables and starches along with the seasonings that they did and now I want to. I definitely recommend giving them a try! read more

We popped in here for a hot beverage and to warm up a bit on Halloween night before we had a haunted ghost tour. The place was packed but they were cranking the food and drinks out really quickly. It's a really cute little spot decorated warmly with small and large tables to accommodate almost any sized group. There is a long bar area where you place your order and pay at the counter. We came here to try a couple of their drinks as we were walking around Salem for the day. We got the Heart Beet fresh pressed juice and orange cream soda (without thyme). I loved this restaurant. It was recommended because of gluten free options. I had the green goddess bowl. The food was delicious. The broccoli cooked perfectly. As a vegetarian I was so happy to find this place! I couldn't believe how many options there were! We ordered the Adventurer and the Rainbow Harvest bowls, both of which were so good. I think I liked the Adventurer a little bit more because of the sesame ginger sauce, but I would order both again. The Rainbow Harvest bowl is a bit bigger and more filling. Service was so nice and friendly when I had questions about the dishes. My husband had a mushroom allergy, which is in a lot of dishes, but we were able to find several options for us to enjoy. Life alive is amazing. Amazing. I know they have many locations but we've been coming to Salem for years. In my opinion they have the food fully down to a science in a good way, and it's less dry and nutritional-yeast-y than Boston's downtown. The adventurer is a showstopper. Consistent every time, ample portion, I really recommend it. The strawberry shake (seasonal) was good and creamy but the coconut yogurt comes through in the flavor. The PB+J Acai bowl is so good that I had to come back and get a second one the next day because it's the perfect size for a light lunch while stomping around Salem on vacation. My wife got different salads and soups, all looked good and she seemed happy, but man, that Acai bowl is magic. Seating is "seat yourself after ordering" so don't wait for a host/hostess. Service speed was definitely reasonable considering how busy they are. My only 'complaint' is I wish they would open earlier so I could have them for breakfast. It came out in under 10 minutes and was served still steaming from the kitchen. We both got a good portion of brown rice with plenty of fresh greens and vegetables. Overall, we had a good experience. Staff were accommodating and cleaning as customers left. Bathroom door was difficult to tell if it was actually locked so double check before. I got the Blue Raspberry Acai smoothie. I definitely enjoyed it, but $10 for a smoothie, especially one of that smaller size, is a bit much. It also took a while to get someone to take my order. There was a girl at the counter (who worked there but was on her day off) standing in front of me chatting with the cashier, and didn't even order anything. I had the spicy thing with the buffalo cauliflower and spinach and a bit of quinoa and some pomegranate seeds. I liked very much as did my daughter. She ordered something that had a lot of avocado and pickled onions and it looked great.
