My experience with Lifesync was deceptive, disappointing, and scary. I was there from January 2021 until June 2022 ( 17 months ). I went in hopeful to turn my life around. I left disappointed and taken advantage of. My HIPAA rights were violated on multiple occasions and I know for a fact I am not the only client to have had this happen. Without my knowledge or consent they contacted an outside provider that cost my family additional funds. This person was toxic and and unqualified to participate any type of family work. Unfortunately, we are still repairing the damage that was caused. This person and Lifesync are in each other's back pockets, which is highly illegal. As for my actual stay I found the premises unkept and dirty. The food, with the new chef, is barely edible. You are not getting what you see with the pictures online. Furthermore, drugs are frequently brought on site ( by clients as well as dealers ). If they are caught they are not asked to leave or held be accountable in any way. Overdoses are common as well as seizures due to poor screening and monitoring. It won't be long before someone dies on site. They will let anyone In whether they are appropriate or need a higher level of care. I was threatened by a male client in front of staff and nothing was done leaving me to feel unsafe and unsupported. To make matters worse staff borrows/steals money. Moreover, has been known to have sexual relations with young female clients. At the end of my stay with no after care plan was provided and I was left with someone abusive and incapable. There was never any follow up and things were worse than when I was admitted. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!! ( Mike Bradshaw, Ryely O Hop, Gina Fetman, Paige Ellison, and Natalia Booth ). These are the people who contributed to my experience with nothing but lies at Lifesync!

The digestive brew...o my, I can't express how much I love it. The taste of licorice is sooo good. I always want a second cup even though my tummy settles! Bedtime, very soothing and relaxing. In fact, when my ADD wants to take charge, I brew a cup and it helps me breathe, comfort myself and lower the energy. If you haven't tried her teas see what they are about. Delay after delay was given to us as a need to "consult with the team" with no details about what might be the concerns or what we could do to assuage those concerns. I would highly recommend talking to a trained therapist or mental health professional before considering this facility as a legitimate way to get help. Based on our experience this feels like a place that will only take on clients that are high net worth and zero risk.

The team there is unparalleled. I wish I could name everyone that were members of my treatment team at Rise, but a few shoutouts to Nam for driving my sad sack self to Rise, baking amazing bread, and being an amazing support from Day 1, Shari & Zach from nursing for the care, fun, pep talks, and compassion, Dr Mark for his wisdom and pragmatic approach that I really resonated with, and numerous others (the chefs are next-level good, Tessa, Luke, Saber, Destiny, Cesar, Cat, Michael, Terry, Adrian, etc). Outside of the fantastic staff, I'll add that the house is gorgeous, the groups are varied and enriching, there's a good balance between free time & groups, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and they do a great job of ensuring that you have access to outside appointments - for example, I was able to go to Passover services while at Rise without having to go through a lot of hoops/bureaucracy. The amenities are fun and obviously appreciated, but the heart of this place is really why I would recommend it to a loved one or friend in a heartbeat. Thank you so much, Rise team!!!

A Life Forever Changed ~ Thank You…read more There are moments in life when words fall short, but I'll try. The Rise at Malibu didn't just support me they saved me. In one of the darkest chapters of my life, they extended a hand that pulled me back into the light. Their compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment were more than professional they were profoundly human. I owe my life to the care, patience, and strength they showed me. Every step of the way, they treated me not as a case, but as a person worth fighting for. That kind of impact doesn't fade it stays with you, reshaping how you see yourself and the world. I want to begin by saying that The Rise in Malibu is far more than just a treatment facility it's a sanctuary for healing, transformation, and rediscovery. After extensive research, I felt confident in my decision before I even arrived. Now, as I prepare to leave, I can say with absolute certainty: I made the right choice. I'm walking away with the reset I desperately needed, armed with tools, a solid plan, and a renewed sense of purpose. What drew me to The Rise in Malibu was their deep commitment to mental health and trauma recovery the very roots of my struggle. From the moment I made that first call, I wasn't just another intake. Ron spoke to me with warmth and clarity, painting a picture of the care I'd receive and the space I'd call home. He gave me hope when I was falling apart. Then Allison stepped in, answering every message, listening to my tears, and making sure I had everything I needed to get to Malibu. Angie welcomed me with open arms, her radiant smile and vibrant energy instantly making me feel safe and seen. She tailored my experience with such care that I always felt supported and comfortable. The program itself is exceptional comprehensive and deeply personal. From licensed psychotherapists and medical doctors to psychiatrists, nurses, holistic therapies, case management, personal training, and even a private chef, every detail is designed to nurture healing in body, mind, and spirit. To anyone considering The Rise in Malibu this place doesn't just treat addiction it treats the person behind it. They saved my life. I recommend them with every ounce of gratitude in my heart. ~ Luka

I was lucky enough to be in the main house, which has a capacity of 6 (2 singles and 2 double rooms). Because there are multiple houses, things had a tendency to feel a little disjointed and disconnected. My main gripe is that I did not think my therapist was good at all. I was not alone in this feeling; one client actually asked to change out of her care and go to a different therapist. Groups were fine. Mostly short and sweet which I liked. I also enjoyed the outings and movie nights. The staff was great across the board. The food was pretty bad - lots of chicken and bland vegetables. There was a lot of food waste; leftovers were thrown away after 24 hours which I found sad as they could have been donated or given to staff. Little amenities like the laundry service were nice. The hot tub was broken for most of my time there which was a huge bummer. Overall it's an okay place to go to seek treatment but there are better places to go. The best part was the alumni network and follow-up experience - they excel at that.

Title: Extremely Troubling Experience - Please Read Before Choosing This Facility…read more My family recently had a deeply troubling experience involving Cliffside Malibu and their so-called "sister property" in Los Angeles. I'm sharing this to protect other families who may be searching for trustworthy, clinically appropriate dual-diagnosis care. For several weeks, my family member had been in regular communication with a Cliffside Malibu representative about potentially entering their program. We ultimately chose a different treatment center, but when a severe medication reaction occurred at that facility, he ended up hospitalized and in crisis. In order for the institution to discharge him safely, he needed confirmation that another program would take him immediately. He contacted the same representative at Cliffside and was told a bed was available. I personally called that evening to confirm. I was told again, very clearly, that a bed was reserved and that arrangements would be made the next morning for pickup. However, everything changed the moment I asked whether they already had his insurance information on file. Cliffside advertises that they accept his insurance in network. The representative told me he was "under the impression" we would be paying out of pocket--over $70,000 per month. When I stated that insurance would be used, the tone of the conversation shifted abruptly. The next morning, the same representative told my family member that Cliffside Malibu no longer had availability after all, but that they could place him in their "sister property," a location called Casa Palmera in Los Angeles. Given the urgent situation and lack of alternatives, he had no choice but to proceed. What he arrived to was nothing like what Cliffside promises on their website or in their admissions calls. It was literally just a house. There were only two other clients, one of whom left that night, leaving him and one roommate. Meals were ordered from Uber Eats. He was told he would receive group therapy consisting of himself and his one roommate, and a brief weekly Zoom check-in with a psychiatrist. This is not remotely "comprehensive dual diagnosis care," nor what Blue Cross believes they are paying for. In the midst of acute withdrawal and psychological trauma, he was asked to pay $5,000 upfront, which he did--only to discover that the entire experience was essentially a bait-and-switch. He left after one day, now even more distrustful of the treatment system and still in need of medically appropriate care. To make matters worse, the posted licenses for this "sister" facility were expired just days before they admitted him. This raises serious concerns about regulatory oversight and transparency. We will be notifying the insurance company, as the care provided in no way resembled the services they claim to deliver. I am sharing this experience so that other families can exercise caution and ask very direct questions before trusting what is being represented on the phone or online. Our hope is that no one else finds themselves in the same vulnerable position.

Someone I don't recognize. The intimate setting of it being a boutique rehab allowed me to develop deep connections and real relationships with every therapist there. Being only 4-10 other clients there with me, we developed relationships much deeper than if we were at a big facility, we grew together and I now am still in touch with them. It's the most beautiful relationship to meet at our darkest, most painful period in life but become new versions of ourselves and still share a bond like no other. Another aspect of Milestones that was so huge in my recovery and is unique here is the family aspect. My therapist and team was in communication with my parents and my husband the whole time (I gave consent). The couples therapy CHANGED MY MARRIAGE. This was a key component to my recovery was not only me getting the help, but milestones providing the time and help to my loved ones. Milestones is more than a rehab, it becomes a home. The staff CARES. They still check in on me and we continue to stay in touch. I attend the alumni meetings with therapists and other Milestones alumni. I also have to say, I had an incredible experience that allows me to live a sober life today and I didn't even get to experience the true milestones ranch as I was there during Covid at it's peek. I was quarantined on the property unable to use the facilities but I am happily 2 years sober today and I never would be without my angels at Milestones. Thank you from the bottom of my heart

While the facility itself is beautiful and the accommodations are luxurious, luxury should not be confused with effective treatment. Reaching out for help was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Instead of leaving feeling empowered and equipped with the knowledge and practical tools I needed, I left frustrated and disappointed with the mental health care system. I don't feel I received the solid educational foundation or long-term coping strategies I was hoping for. They forced their views on to me. I felt trapped. I did not have a wonderful experience and if I ever have to do the rehab circuit again I will definitely be using places that are covered by my insurance. While there were staff members who genuinely cared and tried to help, my overall experience did not meet the expectations I had for such a highly regarded place. I sincerely hope Avalon continues to improve by listening to former clients and placing greater emphasis on respect, boundaries, practical life skills, individualized education, and preparing people for the realities they'll face after discharge. Beautiful surroundings alone cannot replace the knowledge, compassion, and lasting support that people in recovery truly need. I don't think most people understand how hard it is to ask for help. I only write this review so the next person can understand that Avalon is not for everyone. I brought most of my belongings with me only to have 98% of them taken from me upon arrival. Do your research before you spend tons of money on any program that doesn't improve your actual life and give you your own voice back.
