I went through the intake process for the mental health program with Blake and a nurse. I had several problems: 1. I asked about the negative reviews they have and Blake said it's because of the population they work with. Implying that people with mental health challenges can't be trusted to make accurate reviews 2. He told me my insurance covers a private room and to plan on coming as along as the medical intake goes well. Then next day her told me my insurance only covers a shared room. He said they would give me a scholarship to have my own room. Cool, can I have a contract or financial agreement? For almost 3 weeks he only said, I'll get back to you shortly. 3. When I texted him 5 days before my arrival to tell him I wasn't coming because I don't have a contract, any info on the program or arrival, he wrote back saying, Oh, well, we're not admitting you because you use a cpap. Why didn't you tell me that? How long have you known that? He apologized but did not have any further conversation with me about what happened except that he's been busy. 4. How is it legal to deny treatment to people who use cpaps? How many millions of us are there? I asked for their legal standing on why they can deny treatment for that reason, no response. read more

The owner of Lifesync seems well-intentioned, but my experience there was troubling. I witnessed clients being bullied, insulted, and even subjected to HIPAA violations and inappropriate remarks. Staff fraternized with clients, follow-up was nonexistent, and when I asked for support or a referral, I was dismissed and insulted. Some staff were unqualified or acted unprofessionally -- one admissions worker openly yelled at clients, and within 60 days another staff member was fired for sexually assaulting a client while working at the facility. I was also referred to a sober living home that wasn't properly vetted, and I saw signs of illegal finder's fees being used. For a licensed medical facility covered by insurance, this is unacceptable. Addiction treatment requires compassion, safety, and professionalism. While it looks like they've since made staffing changes, I can only speak to my own experience, which was unsafe and unprofessional read more

Flashing Lights Pose Health Concern. I apologize for not giving a full review of my experience as a whole. There were many things I was deeply frustrated by, and many aspects and employees that I would absolutely praise, but I'm going to pick my battles. The ultimate impetus for this review is one specific, worrisome concern that I hope can be resolved in short order, if it hasn't been addressed already. I stayed at the house near the top of the hill on Murphy Way between April 9 and May 9 of 2025. After my first night there, I spoke with one of the "techs" about how two outdoor lanterns on either side of the property had been flashing through the night. I was staying in the master bedroom, and there were several windows that did not have curtains, allowing the flashing lights to shine through and reflect on the walls. Two weeks into my stay, I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep, seeing this persistent flickering on my walls which had still not been resolved. I went to speak with the overight tech about it. He said that the lanterns weren't scheduled to be looked at until after I was scheduled to be released. I asked if we could cover the lanterns with plastic bags or something to find a temporary fix in the meantime, but the tech remained helpless. In the last week of my stay, I resorted to taping up cardboard over the flashing LEDs inside the lanterns, leaving blue painter's tape on the outer lantern glass to indicate which ones needed to be fixed. It is my fear that even bringing attention to it now may cause someone to remove the cardboard and tape, reinstating the problem with no actionable intention of repairing it. I am especially concerned about this issue as a health concern. One of my housemates when I was there was known to experience seizures while in withdrawal from alcohol, and this individual specifically chose to be admitted so that they could recover in a safe place. While at LifeSync, I was prescribed a medication that can cause seizures (which I chose never to take.) It is unacceptable that I had flashing lights reflecting on my walls nearly every single night of my month-long stay. It's not a matter of luxury; it is a matter of health. I'm not a client of theirs but I feel the need to shed some light on how they are attempting to lowball new employees. They have a job post for an MFT with the pay range between $24.92$45.00. This is a "luxury" rehabilitation treatment center in freaking MALIBU Ca. They want to pay someone who went to graduate school with a masters degree and thousands of hours of unpaid training $4.92 more than what fast food workers currently make in California. So they're clearly trying to attract the top talent lol. It's so dumb and is probably a sign the center is on its way out. Just remember if you decide to seek treatment here you may be treated by someone with an advanced degree that is literally on food stamps or government assistance. $24.92 isn't a living wage in most parts of California let alone freaking Malibu. I stayed at the Lifesync sober living house from December to the end of April when I attended PHP and then IOP at FOY WELLNESS. I then went to France for six weeks and had planned on returning to the house after I got back. The manager Mike Bradshaw completely ghosted me about returning to the house (after agreeing to let me if I returned to Foy Wellness)and whether my things were still there. I found out that they were turning it into a residential facility and all the people at the SLH there had to scamper for new accommodations. I do appreciate that he allowed me to leave my things in the garage but my valuables were removed from the safe and an heirloom aquamarine and diamond ring was missing. It had to have been stolen by staff as it was in the safe inside the office. The manager Mike Bradshaw would not respond back to me. He only wanted to cover their butts from responsibility. Bad communication, erratic behavior from the techs and no responsibility for my missing ring. I can not imagine a worse place for mental health care! While there we were supposed to be fed healthy food. That stopped, then the water was leaking and when I brought it up, it was made clear that I was the problem for bringing it up. My experience with Lifesync was deceptive, disappointing, and scary. I was there from January 2021 until June 2022 ( 17 months ). I went in hopeful to turn my life around. I left disappointed and taken advantage of. My HIPAA rights were violated on multiple occasions and I know for a fact I am not the only client to have had this happen. Without my knowledge or consent they contacted an outside provider that cost my family additional funds. This person was toxic and and unqualified to participate any type of family work. Unfortunately, we are still repairing the damage that was caused. This person and Lifesync are in each other's back pockets, which is highly illegal. As for my actual stay I found the premises unkept and dirty. The food, with the new chef, is barely edible. You are not getting what you see with the pictures online. Furthermore, drugs are frequently brought on site ( by clients as well as dealers ). If they are caught they are not asked to leave or held be accountable in any way. Overdoses are common as well as seizures due to poor screening and monitoring. It won't be long before someone dies on site. They will let anyone In whether they are appropriate or need a higher level of care. I was threatened by a male client in front of staff and nothing was done leaving me to feel unsafe and unsupported. To make matters worse staff borrows/steals money. Moreover, has been known to have sexual relations with young female clients. At the end of my stay with no after care plan was provided and I was left with someone abusive and incapable. There was never any follow up and things were worse than when I was admitted. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!! It's been really hard for me to get sober the past couple years until I went to life sync Malibu. They really helped me out a lot and showed me the way. The staff is amazing Gary, Taylor, Mike and Natalia. Also the doctor is amazing and really gives you the best care. Lifesync really cares about there patients. It's nothing but love I get from this place. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't know where I would be. Anything you need they will help you out and go above and beyond for you. Not only was his place filthy dirty. They never came to check on me once I could've died in my room and no one gave a shit the text hang out in one room and commiserate but they do nothing to help the patient absolutely nothing there's no treatment there's no help there is nothing. When I got home I found out that one of my prescriptions which was originally prescribed by my primary care physician have been omitted from returning to me which I need desperately. It was hard to decide how to rate this program. I finally had to base it off the actual programming, not my affection for a handful of the staff. I am not going to dredge up every detail, but the programming could be good, when it happened. Most of the groups were ran by techs. Often groups were canceled without telling us clients, and not meeting the 3 hour minimum of group therapy a day needed by insurance (but they were written as being done). This was about half of the days. While there were some good groups, general group etiquette was not enforced at all, and it led to a lot of unhelpful groups. Clients comfort came in last after what was convenient for staff. Weekends were a snooze fest with absolutely nothing happening (they blamed covid, but they didn't seem concerned about covid infection at all ). I didn't feel the therapy offered was effective. But the real issue is that the admissions is packing the houses with high-risk people with high recidivism. They had no issue with people coming in and out in short periods of time, causing safety issues. As long as they had insurance to pay, it seemed they could do what ever they wanted. In the weeks I was there, 3 people came in off of skid row (their term for it) and 2 people had their dealers pick them up at the house. 1 of the people who left with her dealer came back...her dealer drove her back, as well. A man was manic and spoke sexually about women in the program. The people who acted out the most or complained the most got a lot of attention and their wants met. People who were just trying to work at recovery and be reasonable did not. They were not careful about covid. People were coming into the house off skid row in LA at the height of covid and not wearing masks or being in isolation. These people were at extremely high risk for being infected. When I asked about this, I was told by several staff members "we can't force them to wear masks or stay in their rooms". (They used the "we can't force them" excuse a lot for many rules, large and small, being broken on a near constant basis with several of the clients). They will tell you anything on the phone to get you to come in, but I found a lot of it to be a lie. They brag about it being owned by a doctor. I was there over 3 weeks and only had one medical "appointment" with him, despite asking for more. It was on my first day. He is very hands off, but is the only doctor on call. It can take hours to get a response when there is a medical need, sometimes you get none. Techs are only allowed to email the doctor, and only one time. If he doesn't respond, they can reach out to the program director, who is the only person who has the doctor's phone number. The director usually will refuse to allow the tech to email the doctor a second time. The psychiatrist spoke with us weekly and I found him helpful. But you couldn't contact him between sessions (they are about 5 minutes long but I found that to be adequate) if you are having a side effect or new need. They are NOT a true dual diagnosis program! Please know that! Staff, therapists, the director, etc will all admit to that despite admissions and the website saying they are. I would suggest this program for people who aren't wanting to do a serious program and want to chill at a beautiful house in Malibu with comfortable furnishings. It is also good for people who don't want to be encouraged to stay when having a hard time, as they really don't seem to care when people say they are leaving. But my suggestion would be to find some place else (and there are tons of programs doing the "Malibu model" of recovery) if you are interested in doing a program that is truly interested in your recovery. read more

Pros: The staff members Rayle & Dr. Booth (via video) were very sweet and made intake a blast. Jamie was a gem and could work somewhere much better. I get the impression Dr. Booth may be a very good doctor, but he probably isn't aware of the unsanitary conditions of the house and probably only visits infrequently so this isn't a knock on him. Cons: Whatever they have going on for Facilities/Operations is in dire need of help. This was a catfish experience in terms of accommodation. The house was disgusting and in no way resembled the photos from the website. The Grand Piano pictured in house 2 on the website was no longer there due to taking up space (no more music therapy?). The guitar pictured in house 1 had 5 detuned and rusted strings and the pool table was nearly unusable. There were dead bugs, light bulbs not working, slanted wall ornaments, scuffed floorboards, multiple stains in every carpet in every room, sticky, smelly floors, tattered furniture, scraped walls, windows lacking blinds, broken tvs on the floor in the closet and dirty dishes. The whole place smelled a bit like a musty nursery that hadn't been aired out in a long time. The intake/medical room was literally in a non air conditioned garage (I felt sorry for Jamie and Rayle having to sweat out there all day). I checked in at 7am and didn't get treated with any medication until about 1pm as the doctor was on vacation and had to call things in. While I anxiously waited for treatment in my twin bed with a stained and tattered comforter, I thought I'd take a shower but there were no soaps, no towels and no washcloths. I had to track down the guy who apparently is supposed to stock things in the bathroom. I'd assume at a residential rate of 4500USD/day, towels could potentially be a consideration in the bathroom. The toilet trash bins had not been removed before my arrival and there were bits of garbage and hairs strewn about on the floor. The place flat out had not been vacuumed or mopped. The shower itself was in need of a deep clean did not look sanitary. I luckily had flip flops. As I began to feel more ill while awaiting approval for medications, I was asked by the operations guy to leave my room to allow the chemical carpet cleaner guy who had arrived to steam clean the carpets. I was not offered another bed to rest in. So not only did I no longer have bed to lay down on, but once I returned to the room an hour later, I got to enjoy the great sensations of a wet floor and humid chemicals in the air. Not to worry, It was only 98 degrees outside and the air conditioning wasn't running in that wing of the house anyway so I opened the doors. Definitely a harsh first couple hours. I would have been better served to go to a spa and an IV drip bar. I didn't even stay one day. I transferred immediately to a true luxury program focused much more towards adults/professionals/executives, with modern non punitive approaches (private rooms, EMDR, spa/pool facilities, medications delivered to your room, bespoke meals, on site gym, access to electronics, reiki, massages). DM me if you'd like to know where. Long story short, if they can't handle basic details like the above stated issues, I'd seriously question their ability to help you with your psyche. If you can't sort out how to clean a house, you probably can't help me sort out my thoughts or my life. Caveat emptor. read more

This place is amazing! I came in broken and in pieces and my life was in ruins. I came straight from the emergency room having almost died from alcohol. My oldest daughter was not speaking to me and my therapist started encouraging me to make amends. Little by little I made contact and we started speaking again. Today I am sober and full of life and so grateful for the love and compassion Lifesynce and their employees showed me during the toughest part of my life. I had the pleasure of working with Staff while my good friend was in detox and then residential at this facility. I have personally been in treatment centers in the past and wish I was able to say I attended this place. I have never met a staff who was so helpful, kind and relatable. This is a tough industry to work in, lack of patience and understanding is NOT something they have. Often times I feel like you are just another "patient" at these places. I was truly blown away with how attentive everyone is and how happy the clients are given the circumstances. The views are just INSANE and the house has a very welcoming vibe. I have stayed for lunches while visiting and the food is not lacking anything. Lots of snacks throughout, open cigarette breaks for the people who find that important and my friend is able to call at anytime and they actually give her the phone when I call. Which is so important when you have a loved one in a treatment center, anyone who has been on the other side of the fence can really see how beneficial that small detail is. I have observed some of the groups here and they are as close to one on one therapy as it comes and not the cookie cutter worksheet bullshit you get at other centers. I have recommended this places numerous times and I have never gotten anything other than a serious thank you from anyone who has taken the suggestion. These people are marketing poor young kids for money and getting them high just to get paid. I was in here and My mom from NY tried to get a hold of me so many times and she was on my release and she was so worried and just wanted to talk to me. They would not give me the phone. And throughout this process a staff member cursed me out and even laughed with another staff member about the situation. I was crying that whole night and AMAd the next morning.
