Service, I would give five stars as everyone who works here is super friendly as soon as you walk in the door and the moment you leave. Food wise, I have to give three stars. My friend and I shared the goat and fig flatbread and the steak. I have to say, I didn't know anyone could mess up a flatbread. The overall bread/crust tasted floury. And the combo made this taste more like a dessert. I think the ratio was off? Let's talk about the steak. They suggested medium rare so we got it that way. This was the most juiciest filet, and not gamey. The fries were good too- crispy on the outside. I've been here several times for breakfast and have always had a great experience. I love the mission statement for the restaurant itself, and everyone has always been so friendly and nice. The blueberry pancakes are probably my favorite, but I also love their eggs benedict when it's available as a special. The crab cake sandwich was exceptional. Crispy lump crab on a delicious bun, and the fried green tomato adding a great texture. Would highly recommend, and would return just for this! More disappointing was the chicken salad croissant sandwich. The multigrain croissant was really dense and dry, more like a hearty slice of bread than a croissant, which one might expect to be buttery and flaky and was neither. The chicken salad itself was good. The pickles that tasted house-made were also very good, although receiving one pickle chip seemed kind of stingy. Deeply disappointing, knocking my review from 4 to 3 stars, were the fries. The potential was high when we saw them, but the fries on both plates were clearly not fresh. I'd dare to say they were fried hours before serving. They had that stale, slightly leathery texture that accompanies old fries that have been re-warmed (they were also not very hot). We both left about half of the portion on the plate. Loved the seasonal spiked eggnog, might have to recreate that at home somehow! read more

This is the second time we went but we probably won't be back. Wait staff: very friendly and outgoing. They appear to be helpful but 2 bad marks 1. 30 degrees out and they have the AC on. We're seated right under vents (can't move, large party) and cold air blowing on us so hard the tea bag wrapper was blown off the table. We asked twice to turn off and they said ok. It cycled off and then turned right back on minutes later. Just say no if you can't; don't lie. Ate breakfast in jackets and Mom had to put her mittens on. 2. I asked server if they offered any veg instead of home fries, he said he'd ask. I guess the answer was no because he just brought home fries with meal. If he would have checked in, I would have asked for fruit. Food: coffee burnt. Nephew's Blueberry pancakes great. Husband's burger, asked for med-rare, got medium and under seasoned; fries seasoned well though. Sister's chef choice bowl, sad looking and under seasoned. Daughter's eggs bene, under seasoned. Came here for Sunday brunch with a group of girls as part of a bachelorette party. They were one of the few restaurants in downtown Annapolis that had an opening for a reservation so last minute. We got to the restaurant and were promptly seated, but despite the restaurant being mostly empty, we were seated right in front of the kitchen. I guess we could have asked to be reseated but it wasn't a huge concern of mine. Service was good; the server was very attentive-- took our orders in a timely manner and food came out relatively quickly. The food was good and quite filling. Price is probably on par with other brunch places downtown. Including tax and tip, it came out to be about $20 a person. We told the waitress that we were here for a bachelorette party when the bride-to-be went to the restroom, and asked if there was anything special that could be done for her. I was a little disappointed when the waitress simply said no, we don't do anything for that here... and that was the end of the discussion. Overall impression: good food, fair service, but they don't seem to go above and beyond for customer satisfaction. read more

In Annapolis from the west coast for a quick few days and found my way to Lighthouse Bistro. Arrived around 1130am on a rainy Tuesday, they only serve breakfast until 11am and that's what I was craving, despite only lunch being available, I went. WHAT A TREAT! The rustic decor is absolutely charming and well thought. The food is phenomenal - had a Maryland crab red soup and a pulled chicken salad - all were delightful. The service was great, the place was half to 2/3 full by the time I left (lunch hour!) and if we return to Annapolis, I'll definitely return here. The atmosphere is quaint and rustic. We went around 10:30am on a Sunday and barely hit the cut off for needing a reservation. It's not mandatory but the crowd was growing and any later and it would've been wise to reserve. We ordered the meatloaf hash, veggie omelet and I got the club sandwich. The wife and I spent the night in Annapolis on our way back from dropping off our son at Catholic University and was very happy to have found this great little gem just steps from our hotel. What a cool spot about 50 yards from my hotel. I sat at the kitchen bar which is always a good spot to observe from. Alex was my server and took good care of me. I tried a few things...their greens salad, Brussels Sprouts, some fries (what the heck did I have the chance to dip them in!!) and finished with a strawberry trifle. Yeah, I know, I'm a piggy! Yup a strong contender in the difficult to impress Annapolis Gastro world. There is a story behind the facility and some of the staff that warms the heart and allows you to think you might need to "cut them a bit of slack". Reality is this restaurant is run to the T's of professionalism and the service, food and atmosphere are always great. If I have been there 5 times in the past year that would be conservative. I enjoy the menu and the chefs specials are always creative and scrumptious (I was told I needed to expand my vocabulary). Almost every time I have been there it has been with friends new to LHB and never has there been an occasion where someone has had to "compromise" and order something that would be less then their first choice. In fact at times the comment "who will share .... so I can try both" have come out of my, and others mouths. The cocktails are great. The beer and wine selection is perfect and priced to not leave you wondering if you should have drank at home before you left. Service, yes my hot button ... exceptional. The staff is mostly new to the industry and having the opportunity to get trained in a new life skill. Fortunately the training they must go through would never let you know that to be the case ... each of the service staff treats their customers as if you are a star. How do you write a review when part of your experience was pretty good but the other part was significantly lacking? Let's dissect, starting with the good. We made the drive out to Annapolis for Sunday brunch, loving breakfasts as we do, and the kitchen at Light House Bistro certainly didn't disappoint. I had the 'Wild, Wild West Omelette', with mushrooms, red pepper, spinach, onion, tomato, scallions, bacon, sausage, chicken, cheddar, provolone, American, and pepper jack. Now, with that rather hefty list of ingredients, you might expect the omelette to be quite heavy, but it was exactly the opposite, a nicely prepared and quite fluffy omelette. Served with some crispy home fries and toast, and with a couple of cups of locally roasted coffee from the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company, this is the kind of breakfast that will keep you going all day. My friend had the Chef's Scramble, containing shredded chicken, tomatoes, queso fresco, cheddar, and scallions, served with tortilla chips made in-house, and he gave the dish a thumbs-up. (I might just have snatched one of those crispi tortillas off of his plate, really good!) So, where did things fall flat? With the entire hospitality aspect of the experience. After a bit of a cold greeting when we arrived, we were seated in the bar area, and while bartenders are normally quite personable and provide great service, this particular bartender couldn't have been any more disinterested. After waiting for several minutes, he finally came around, asking us what we'd like to drink. A good ten minutes pass, menus are finally provided, we place our orders, but where's my coffee? And, after you finally brought me one, why didn't you ever offer me a refill? Could it be that you were barely behind the bar the whole time we were there? I won't belabor you with the rest of the details - it was just more of the same, giving off a vibe that made it quite clear that he just couldn't be bothered. The entire customer service experience was so stand-offish and unwelcoming that it hardly wants to make you want to return, and that's too bad given how hard the folks in the kitchen work in producing some really nice dishes. I love Light House Bistro! It's a great place for brunch and one that I always go back to. The service is amazing, the food is great, and the atmosphere is perfect! It's great for large groups or just you and one other friend. I've tried the blueberry pancakes (huge and drenched in blueberry syrup), the chef's egg special (an egg scramble of scallions, grilled chicken, and mushrooms - amazing), and their omelets.
