Recently, I went with my friend and he decided not to buy anything from them. It's a nice place to get what you need in terms of lighting and related items. I do feel like the air is definitely Newport rather than Costa Mesa in the store. So if you want better service, then look like you're a buyer or go with a person that use LBE as their vendors. I never knew how good customer service they can have when having an in with them. I haven't used them for over 2 years seeing that I have another place I go to or I order online. The place I go to has better service and I'm part of their "IN" crowd...so said:P When I did use them the prices are a bit high, but they were close to my home, had a decent selection and time frame. Would I recommend them, yes...since I told my friend to go there. However, would I purchase anything from them? I have done thousands of dollars worth of business with the Costa Mesa Store for both my home and business. In the past I have always found the sales people to be helpful and knowledgeable; that was not the case today. With virtually no other customer in the store, and several sales people on the floor, It took close to 10 minutes for a women setting at a desk toward the back of the store to look up and ask me if I needed help. It went down the hill from there. In our discussion about the product I was looking for, and it's application, I was made painfully aware by her body language and her tone of voice. that she really didn't have the time for me and wanted to get back to whatever she was busy with at her desk. My dealings with the salespeople at LBE, Costa Mesa has up until today been great experiences. In the past, they took the time to help me without the attitude. This woman had some major attitude. Major! I'm not a hard person to please, I only expect the common courtesy of a smile and a civil tone when responding to my questions. I left the store feeling unwelcome, disappointed, and uninterested in dealing with this store again. I will shop elsewhere. read more

Ordered a couple pendants lights for my kitchen remodel. [Read: Kitchen Remodel, so not something that happens on a regular basis.] Unfortunately they were special order from a catalog without a showroom model. Lights came in as expected but their vendor used the incorrect transformer when putting them together. Installation caused them to light up like a strobe light. Lots of work to initially troubleshoot the problem and remediate the issues but once the owner finally got involved without my prompting, things operated liked a German Train. We have bought many pictures from this location over the years, and the service is always top notch. They have the best show room for actually seeing what your lights will look like in their people know what they're talking about. Mark helped us most recently with some LED under cabinet lighting and it came out fantastic. They may not be the cheapest, but the quality is definitely there. read more

This store is amazing! We purchased all of our fixtures for our newly remodeled home through them as they have the best selection anywhere in Orange County. Although you sometimes have to wait a bit when you go to their showroom, if you make an appointment, there is no wait at all. We have worked with the owners, Melvyn & Irwin and found them to be gracious and accommodating to all of our needs. Recently, after a bad experience with a very unprofessional electrician, Irwin felt so bad about the referral that he even sent his own electrician to fix the problem! It was fixed in a few minutes and we couldn't be happier! Our home is soft contemporary, and, if you like that style, you will fall in love with half the store! They do have beautiful designs for other design modes as well though. Trust me, check out this store before going anywhere else (especially if you are building or remodeling a new house). I called up last wk and spoke to Adam. I told him a fixture I bought a few years back had suddenly not worked. 3 of 4 lights went out at same time. I replaced the bulbs but it didn't fix the problem. I asked if he knew of a place that could look at it. He suggested I bring it in and he would have someone look at it. I did and it was fixed. I wasn't expecting a fix since the light fixture was past the warranty, but I was so happy it is now working. I've been coming to this place since 2008 when my master electrician told me he buys all his supplies from this co. My experience is that everyone is super friendly, knowledgable and so helpful. Even though I have a Lamps Plus store down the street from me, I still drive to this store because if it's excellent staff and products. read more

Whenever i have any light bulb needs i come here! Had to replace a fixture twice and they ordered it for me.

We hired Lightstyles/LightBulbs etc. for lighting design paid them $2k for our custom home lighting design. They then tried to force us to buy the lighting package from them in order for them to complete their design services which we had already paid for upfront. They wanted a 20% premium over other lighting suppliers and would not budge on the price even though their design contract says they will be "competitively priced with any electrical wholesaler." So they kept our money but didn't finish the design services contracted work. Lightstyles/LightBulbs etc. President Melvyn Kahn is one of the most unprofessional people I have every dealt with in my 15 years in design/construction. Also when we went to the showroom about half the displays were not working so we couldn't get a good idea of what lighting was being specified. Do not give this company money up front!!! read more

Lightbulbs Etc. has been a tremendous help to us as we build our new home!! It used to be that you just walk into a store and a buy a 60 or 100 watt bulb. Not anymore! Now it's like you need a degree to figure out which bulbs are needed! The staff at Lightbulbs Etc really know their stuff! I was helped by a few employees but really felt most comfortable working with Janna. She is patient and knows exactly what the customer needs! I worked with her weekly, sometimes daily, and she ALWAYS came through for me! They have the most unique and beautiful fixtures and the customer service is fantastic! Great place for lighting, wonderful selection , Mark who helped us select our fixtures , ( over $ 3000.00 worth ) was very helpful and patient with us . I would give them 4 stars but when we picked up the fixtures Jana waited on us and she was quite rude, I bought some bulbs from her for the lights but when I returned them the next day she was even more rude , when I said I found some that my wife liked better on line, she actually said I should have thought of that yesterday. Visited the showroom in person because I wanted a desk lamp that they had IN STOCK on their website. Employees don't wear name tags so I am not sure who was working there vs who is a customer. I went to the main desk to ask for help to find the lamp I found on their website. It turns out they don't carry the lamp that I wanted in stock- so the employee told me they would have to order it online, however they can only do bulk orders for items like that so they wouldn't be able to get it. After that disappointment, I was hoping they would say, "hey but you might want to check out this section, we have similar stuff" or "Sorry about that but if you look over here we have lamps in a similar price range" or "I am really excited about this one lamp that just came in which is comparable, follow me and check it out" but it was just a hard no. Being in the business of sales, what I experienced today is not how you retain or make customers. I am a sucker for good marketing and if the employee would have been upbeat and provided a solution/alternative rather than a dead end, I would have walked out with a lamp today- no doubt, even if it was out of my price range. However, I was greeted with a lethargic non-solution to what I was seeking which made me not want to give my money to them. Bottom line: LightStyles Mgmt if you read this- first impressions are everything. It starts with the sales associates and in my experience, they didn't make the cut in being enthusiastic, helpful and trained salesmen which ultimately lost any sort of transaction today. Provide guidance and alternatives which turn your own "No" into a "yes". read more

I try and work with Mark MacDonald each time and have come to develop a really good relationship with him. I have read other reviews about not being greeted or helped - hard to imagine as I must have three or four employees ask me if I need anything when I enter the showroom. The showroom is fantastic with displays of all sorts of lighting. They will match Internet pricing so pricing has never been an issue. I was looking for a 5500K rated LED lightbulb - I couldn't find one at Home Depot so thought that Light Bulbs Etc may be a good option. The Salesman told me that "they don't make any 5500K light bulbs," explaining it was not a color rating that was available anywhere. I explained that that it is a popular standard for studio photography and again he argued that it was not available. I said I would buy one at Samy's Camera or order on Amazon as they had quite a large selection, and he came back with "We can special order any lightbulb, but not the 5500K" - No problem because I will not be back. read more

This store has so much to write about. The main reason for my review is not the great selection or competitive pricing, but the customer service. LB Plus brings back the service into customer service. I have two experiences. On my first trip to buy pendant lighting for my remodeled kitchen I was struck by all the choices. I couldn't decide. I was taking pictures and one of the women suggested she just unscrew them and I could take them home and see the real thing in my kitchen! I couldn't believe it. "you would do that!" I asked. Sure! she said. So I did and my decision was easy with all the selections held up in my real kitchen, instead of a crummy iphone photo. Next I went in to find a floor lamp to illuminate a dark living room. The selection was easy and I told the salesman Martin that my husband was in Montana for 2 weeks on business, would I have to put the lamp together. He replied that, Yes, the floor lamp had to be put together but if he couldn't find one in the back I could have the floor model. "I'll try really hard not to find one!" He joked. He walked out from the back carrying a big box and my heart sank. I can't even put together kids toys...But he said, "i'm gonna give you the floor model because these are really hard to assemble. I'll put this one together myself and put it back out on the floor." I couldn't believe it. SOOOOO NICE!!! In short, try this place first. Great selection and even better people working there! If your making a significant investment in renovating your home or even just improving your kitchen or bathroom you need to come here to get an lighting education. I had no clue how complicated and detailed all the lighting options were. They have Custom Lighting Designs developed in Architectural programs like autocad. LED, Kitchen, and other Example rooms to show you how different types of lighting setups change the look of a room. Again this is a HIGH END store. If your someone who appreciates quality, creativity with an artistic design feel come here. Riley's customer service attitude was so terrible, that I will never again enter lightbulbs etc. this may be a great company, but with Riley as one of its representatives, I have no further interest in any of their products or services. I could elaborate, but it's not necessary. his attitude has completely turned me off to this vendor as a source for lighting for any of the multiple construction projects I have in the area.
