Ambience was great, and the extended hours make it for a great spot to study. In general, the noise level is pretty low. It's amazing that the general management and staff are so friendly, with samples getting called out or given out throughout an hour duration of being there. Really great staff when I went in both times. All their baristas seem very young and vibrant which has become a staple of most coffee shops. Theres honestly more space than what they need haha but its good because you don't feel cramped in to a spot to read or study on your computer. Modern decorum and design unlike most coffee shops that have a rustic design so it just depends on what kind of atmosphere your looking to have around you. Every other time I go into this place someone takes my order but i don't get my drink unless I say something. The first time I experienced horrible service, the person BEHIND me in line got their drink & I still didn't have mine & no one was in the process of making it. This last time I went in, the girl who took my order had a green Mohawk & the guy who eventually made my drink were just talking to each other. No care in the world that I just ordered. The girl with the Mohawk just stood there listening to this guy talk & never mentioned that I was waiting for my drink. After about 5-10 mins of watching them talk, I stood up out of the barstool I was sitting at that faces the espresso machine & the guy had the audacity to say "are you waiting for a drink?" I was the only person in line who just ordered.... I'm all for talking with coworkers... while I'm doing my job OR I have nothing going on. Don't talk & forget about being at work. I go into this place bc they have good drinks but the customer service needs to improve. The people you've hired here would never make it in a Starbucks or Better Buzz. Thanks. read more

I came in to the coffee shop and ordered a medium blended mocha, they gave me an iced mocha, no big deal, I just let them know I ordered a blended one and they apologize and this lady offers to make a new one, she proceeds to pour a bunch of ice into a blender and then dumps my drink on top and blends it up, she then pours this drink which is now gigantic from all the ice that was added into a medium cup and overflows it, making a mountain of mocha drink at the top which is protruding out and dripping everywhere and sticks a boba straw in it and pushes it towards me, she notices the discern on my face and then asks if I want a lid. I have a broken leg and use a scooter to help me walk so I do need one. This kid who works there comes over and puts the flat lid on top of the pile of mocha breaching the cup and says "there, now it's like a shake" the lady looks at me with a glance that says "are you good?" To which I ask if they can just pour it in a large cup. She does and it literally fills the entire large cup so much so that she had to use a globe lid. I get back to the office after this fiasco to enjoy my drink and it is gone in maybe 10 sips due to there being so much ice blended into the drink, there's just a full icy tasteless mess in my cup so I threw it out. I paid 6$ for this experience. read more

Light bulb coffee has made an impression before even getting our drinks! Walking in to a wide open coffee shop with natural lighting was a relief compared to a dimly lit crammed starbucks and the drinks are even better than the ambiance. My girlfriend and I got what the barista recommended for us. The chocolate warrior for her and the Turkish hazelnut for me and they were exactly what we wanted. First time there to neet two dear friends had the most delicious breakfast Acsia ( I hope I spelled right) granola with fruits, excellent coffee. Very polite helpful the young man at the counter. The young lady who owns or work there who introduced me and offered me several yumy samples of Jordanian sweets was extra friendly and kind and helpful I bought 3 boxed gave as fair well and BD presents. First time here and enjoyed the atmosphere. It's very spacious and has a lot of seating. The decor is cute and the music playing was a good mix. I got one of their speciality coffees, an iced peanut butter. It had a good balance of coffee and peanut butter, overall it had a good flavor. I look forward to visiting again. I was not surprised to see it has 4 stars. The cafe is really pretty and the owner is really sweet. He gave me a free piece of chocolate for being "nice." I noticed they had a great selection of raw and fresh pressed breakfast and lunch juices like grapefruit and strawberry, respectively. I will definitely be back again. So, I visited today, with high hopes for a nice Mom & Pop coffee shop for our village. Was amazed to see that after nearly a year of renovation, this place has all the ambiance of an airport bathroom. I was not greeted despite the fact that I was the only person in the place - two very weird employees made ZERO eye contact and aside from announcing that I owed $3.00 for a small iced tea($2.25 at Starbucks) no words were spoken. Seriously, who are these people who go to all the trouble to open a business, then make what few customers that come their way feel entirely uncomfortable and unwelcome? My first visit to the Light Bulb Coffee was not a pleasant one. The only reason i am giving 2 stars is because the employees were doing thier best they could with what they had to work with. No peanut butter, no ice, no lids to the coffee and getting no help when management was asked. There are too many things that i saw to mention, but this one was the worst. The owner comes out with the tub of acai taking a bite out of bread or bagel. Such a nice place its a shame they dont have things running better especially at lunch time. OK, this place has great coffee! I like brewed coffee, and I'm drinking decafe these days. Lightbulb Coffee's decafe is very smooth and still really rich in flavor. I like it! My friend told me that the regular datk brew was excellent, too A very large was either $2.40 or $2.50, and I didn't have to suffer the indignity of designating a size in faux Italian so a certain corporate coffee behemoth could extend its brand. The manager and people who work there are really nice and competent, and the place opens at 6 a.m.! I hope more people patronize this place, because its coffee is really good. read more

My daughter and I meet for coffee every Saturday morning--usually at Starbucks. However, in an effort to support local La Mesa businesses, we decided to meet at Lightbulb Coffee this morning. The atmosphere, coffee and pastries were exceptional; the service was friendly and fast, HOWEVER, when we used the restroom to wash our hands, we discovered it was filthy. The toilet paper dispensers were empty with a new roll of toilet paper sitting on top of the dispenser; the seat covers dispenser on the wall was empty but the cardboard container holding the seat covers was on the floor leaning against the wall and there was dirt corroded around the faucets on the sink. This was at 8am! Unless they start cleaning the restrooms, we won't be back. :( read more

Lightbulb Coffee has a wonderful atmosphere with beautiful, creative art, and is another new place for me to study when I can't focus at home, which I appreciate greatly. Every visit I've had was accompanied by awesome music I actually liked (not just the same 5 song radio loop I experience all too often) and included great customer service.The employees always seem to be enjoying their job and being very friendly. It makes my time there feel even more comfortable with such an easy going, helpful environment. I also highly recommend the coldbrew and turkey panini :) read more

The drinks we received here we really delicious and the actual building itself is clean and we'll kept. The service however was pretty bad. I didn't catch there names but I visited 6/25/18 at around 330 pm and 2 blonde girls were working. The cashier/order take was unenthusiastic and barely made an effort to greet us. No problem, we proceed with our order and order a couple coffee and a bagel to go. We received the drinks promptly and they were delicious, however I ended up waiting there thinking they were waiting to do the bagel because they were helping the next guests. After waiting till they completed the next guests order I politely asked about the bagel, and the cashier just told me "okay". They never apolagized for the wait or forgetting about part of my order. To top it off when I got in my car it was the wrong bagel. It's too bad because the product sold here is solid, but the customer service is lacking. read more

So Yelp won't let you write more than one review about a place you've already reviewed, so my friend made an account for me to specifically make another review, that's how shitty this place is. I went in there with my 2 friends around 545-6pm. A dark haired girl with her hair up was very friendly & sweet, the one making the drinks was on her personal cell phone & really unfriendly. She has dirty blonde hair & it was in a low pony tail. She took forever to make 3 drinks. When I got my drink, it was a regular when I asked for a large & PAID FOR A LARGE. When she was told I ordered a large, she turned around really fast holding up the ticket that apparently said I ordered a regular & paid for a regular & said "um actually you ordered a regular" with the WORST ATTITUDE, while she was still on the fucking phone. The girl who took my order was so sweet & said "oh I'm so sorry that was my fault." Even if I was wrong, I'm still right, I am the customer. I had left the shop super angry & ended up going back to tell her how I felt about the whole situation. This girl shouldn't have a job in customer service. For her to tell me that I was wrong while she was on a personal call was completely rude & unacceptable. I will he calling the manager tomorrow. read more

I walked in around 3 pm today, waited a few minutes, the lady at the counter smiled at me and I asked for a cafe mocha. She said, "Oh, we're actually closed." Hmmm.... They had about four others customers sitting and working on computers at various tables. The neon sign in the window said, "Open." So, disappointed, I left. I went up the street and found another cafe and was served right away. I grabbed my mocha and walked back to my car that was parked outside of Light Bulb Coffee. Their door was still open, customers still inside, and the open sign still lit up. So, I decided to call them and ask what their hours were today. I did and they said, "We're open until 5:30 today." WTF???? Never going back here. I almost walked back in with my phone in my hand to ask them why I was told they were closed about 20 minutes ago! Yikes!!! read more

on monday july 9, yesterday, a 3pm i had the pleasure of being helped by the sweetest young lady! she offered a sample of the strawberry/lemonade slushie (but not crushed) before i attempted to order a slushie.... i looked down and just happened to see the credit card machine that said a 5% charge would be assessed on ALL card purchases... WHAT!?!?! even tho it may have been a mere .30 cent charge, 30 cents is 30 cents!!!!!! i was utterly offended and horrified!! why not charge a larger order the percentage you are trying to make to cover your overhead and credit card company's assessment for the use of their machine/bank!!!!! as a credit card user only (use cash? nah, hardly) i certainly will not be back....... read more

This coffee shop is pretty average. The drinks are good but a bit overpriced ($5 for a small), but the ambiance is kind of weird. They don't play music so it was strangely quiet. Service was okay just because there was no interaction other than when I paid for my drink, but I found it odd that the barista was wearing casual clothes- sweats and a t-shirt from pink. I mean, what the workers wear doesn't affect my experience at all but usually wearing work attire shows you're there to work. Another oddity was that the girl at the counter was on her phone immediately after making and calling out my drink, and when I asked for the WiFi password she was facing away, busy checking something apparently more important. Oh well. Another small annoyance is that the tables for two are super tiny. I came with a friend and our small laptops barely fit on the table. I have a MacBook Air 13" for reference lol. read more
