Not a bad place to stay the night. They are located right off the 101 freeway in Crescent City. Normally, we stay at Holiday Inn Express. This place is a notch below in terms of amenities and the place is a bit dated. Our room was fine though. There was a microwave and refrigerator which are very important to us when we travel. The bed was comfy, and the room spacious. They have free wi-fi (if I remember correctly). They have a complimentary continental breakfast every morning. Service was terrific! We really enjoyed our stay here. We had only booked for 1 night, but decided to extend our stay a second night. The rates were the same for each night, and the rates were affordable. If your travels take you to this small town, then consider spending the night here. We are glad that we did. read more

Actually it would be more of a three and a half stars if that was possible, but I bump it up rather than down in favour of the staff, mainly Casey at the front desk. His personality alone sort of makes up for the things that this relic of a motel/hotel lacks. Yes, this place is stuck in the 80s, it's got the push button phones and the old bulky TVs and it's got rather thin walls, at least my room did. The wifi, altho free, was rather spotty the night I was there. But the room was very large compared to other low budget motels, and that's what this place is, now anyway. Maybe back in the 80s it was a showpiece, now it's just an oversized motel that hasn't updated the decor in a long, long time. But that's not what I came here for, I came for a clean, well appointed room and a comfortable bed. I got all that and more. The parking was easy, and even tho I didn't take advantage of the continental breakfast, the way Casey described it, it sounded pretty darn good. I did call ahead a few days to see what the availability might be when I passed thru and the desk clerk (not Casey) said that on the days I thought I"d be there I would have no problem. The night I got there, that wasn't the case, Casey did find me a room, at slightly more than I had planned on paying, but like I said, he's got personality. If you want to make sure you get a room, maybe call ahead and make that reservation. Do I recommend it? yep, it's a nice, spacious room with clean comfy beds and a nice big bathroom with plenty of towels and soaps and what nots. It's not the cheapest in the area, but then you most certainly do get what you pay for in this case. Wow...of the 6 hotel/motels I stayed in over a 11-day period, this was the best. And it was all by accident. I chose Crescent City, CA as a stopping point on my way from Oakland, CA to Seattle, WA. It was raining large cats and even larger dogs and after (BARELY) surviving the 101/PCH highway's dangerous curves, bad tailgating drivers and the rain, I followed my navigation set to Super 8 - a dinky hotel next door. After missing the entrance to Super 8, I accidentally made my way into the Lighthouse Inn. I decided, with my fatigue and the pouring rain, I'd just pop in and see if the room price was comparable. Not only was it a great deal, the place was beautiful. In addition, they had a fantastic male desk clerk that was extremely helpful. The room was large, though not entirely updated. That's not really a complaint. I went immediately next door to a great restaurant/pub and even met some locals + people from my home in Phoenix. It was conveniently located by a beach - down a few blocks. And it's great looking inside and out. Breakfast was good and the staff was incredible. Highly recommended. This place isn't bad for being in the middle of a shit hole city. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly. Got to the room and it was nothing special, but not too bad. Strange set-up (wish I had taken a picture). So the bathroom was new remodeled...but...it was just a toilet and a shower. The sink and outlets were all out just across from the sleeping area. VERY STRANGE. The carpet was old and dirty (but not nasty dirty). The AC blew semi cold. Didn't have any issues with the Wifi. Old school TVs. The fridge kept the beer cold. When I called to reserve the room, it seemed sketchy and I worried about my CC info being compromised (it didn't). I think we were lucky to get a place that was half decent compared to some of the other places I saw. You won't go wrong staying here, but don't expect toooo much. read more

We decided to spend a weekend on the coast. After much reading of reviews and checking prices we decided to stay at the Lighthouse Inn. I'm glad we did. It is located at the southern part of Crescent City, right across from the harbor. First impressions were of a cute, clean spot. Walking in, there is a big ocean mural on the wall ahead of you. I liked it. To the right is a relatively spacious breakfast area with several tables and chairs. It was clean and well laid out. Check in went well. The front desk clerk was friendly and efficient. We were checked in, in no time at all. We had room 315 overlooking a balcony. We walked into the room and were taken about at how huge the room was. There were two queen beds, two couches, and a table and chairs. Even with all the furniture, the room was still very roomy. The room has a giant vanity as you first walk in. I liked this setup as people could get ready while others were showering or making use of the toilet. One of my favorite things was the fact that the shower head was set at about 6 feet. I am 6'4" and most often have to do quite a bit of ducking when showering at hotels. Not much ducking was needed here. Thanks! On the opposite end of the spectrum, I am pretty sure a little person (is that the PC term these days?) picked out the toilet. I basically had to fall down to use it as it was so low. My short wife loved it however. The water was hot, and the pressure was good. The room did have several "soft spots" that creaked very loudly when walking on them. Not a big deal for me, but I felt bad for anyone below me. There were also some spots in the hallway that I could hear when awake and people were walking in the hall. It was not bad enough to keep me from sleeping though. There were some minor maintenance issues; formica end caps were peeling off of the vanity, the vinyl was bubbling in the bathroom. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice to see these fixed the next time we stay here. On to the bed. Beds are hard to judge when it comes to hotels as everyone's likes vary greatly. Some like them soft, some like them firm. As long as I can sleep and not wake up sore, I am happy. I was happy here. I didn't sleep great, but it wasn't due to the bed. It takes me a couple of days to get used to a new bed. The bed did feel very cheap however. It is not a problem now, but cheap beds wear down quickly and become uncomfortable rather quickly. I did find the pillow too soft for my liking and the front desk clerk was quick to find me a firmer pillow. It was much appreciated. Overall, I found The Lighthouse Inn to be clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the price fair. We will be back. read more

Worst hotel experience i have ever had. Bed broke straight away when my husband and I sat on it. Hotel staff acted inconvenienced when we had to be relocted. One month later we see we have an unauthorized charge on our credit card the hotel charged for someone else's room. When we spoke to the manager she had an attitude when she assured us "this never happens" and a refund was given. We are still waiting for our refund. If you're looking for your honeymoon suite, you might want to consider someplace else, but if you're looking for a big, clean room to spend the night in -- and you don't need lots of luxury -- this is a great place to stop. The night clerk was so friendly and helpful that I almost couldn't believe he was real. No one's that nice anymore! He let us know that the hotel was 60% full because of all the out-of-town workers in to fix the harbor after the tsunami. (We met a couple of the workers in the elevator - nice bunch of guys.) He also gave us tips on where to eat that late (just a couple doors down) and explained that coffee and tea were available all night in the lobby. As we made our way to our room, we also notice a washer & dryer for guests' use. Nice perk! The room itself is nothing to write home about but it's big, has decent furnishings and was clean. I found it odd that there was no coffee table in front of the couch -- just a big open space -- but c'est la vie. I'd just put a bag down on it anyway, so no biggie. We got a basic King -- no Jacuzzi or fireplace -- for $79 (AAA rate) and feel we got a good value. We'd thought we'd stay at the Curly Redwood just a couple doors down because the Yelp reviews were so good but when I read there was just a tiny TV in the rooms, we changed our minds. We were passing through, not heading here on a vacation, so we wanted nothing more than to veg out in front of the boob tube for a while before passing out. We got exactly what we wanted at the Lighthouse! The breakfast was a choice of bagels, english muffins, etc, fruit, cereal, milk, juice, coffee, tea & hardboiled eggs. All the basics of a serve-yourself-buffet. All in all, I would recommend this as a great value to other travelers. read more

I called the hotel directly. I spoke with the front desk to reserve a room. I received an email with a confirmation number. So far so good, right? WRONG! My family arrived to find our room is not available. It like that Seinfeld episode about the rental car place losing his reservation. Tony, the person who made my reservation, blamed it on the internet. What internet? I booked it directly through him, over the phone!!! The place is old but decently maintained and quirky. The operators have tried to keep things up - fun, kitschy lobby (with signs posted warning of raging local car theft problem). Carpeting/paint in reasonably good shape. Good sized rooms. Good TV with lots of channels. Good check-in experience. But the bedding was a bit sad (3 saggy, worn pillows for a king bed - we have 8 better pillows here tonight at our next stop at a less expensive motel in Eureka). We had a large, low class, younger family who had multiple rooms and kept all their doors open and gave their preschoolers run of the halls (and who ignored our polite request for quiet after 9 pm). Breakfast wasn't much: mostly hard boiled eggs and a variety of cheapie breads, cakes, and donuts. I noted a couple of employees standing just outside the entrance smoking/chatting. I don't care for that behavior - IMHO employees should not loiter at the entrance during their smoke breaks. read more

The hotel was completely booked. They sent me to another hotel where they wanted me to pay a second time for a room for the night. We left. I was very unhappy with the lack of effort on the hotels part to try and help a paying customer with a hotel confirmation number. Our final night's stay on a 12 day trip. It was fine. Check in was easy. Staff was very helpful. Room was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary, just what you'd expect. There was a large whirlpool tub, but we didn't use it, felt guilty about using water. Nice continental breakfast downstairs. Across the street from a harbor, so we took a stroll. This is a very nice Inn; we stayed a few days in June and then again in July. The room was very clean and large. The lobby has a nice sitting area and there is an area for a continental breakfast. For the value of the room the breakfast isn't the big one like you would see at hotels that are higher in price but adequate and the area is also very clean. There is coffee and tea available all times. The staff is friendly and polite. There is a laundry room where you will also find a snack, drink and ice machine. We have stayed here off and on the last 7 years and have never had a bad experience. While it is an older hotel everything seems to be in working order. I guess if you want a new fancy, modern room this is not the place for you, but if you want to stay in a hotel with character, you have chosen the right place. read more

We had a typical room. It was clean and it would have been quiet except the people across the way (2 rooms of them) were talking loudly until very late. We did not ask the hotel staff to do anything about the noise. The room wasn't dark enough either. Curtains covered the windows but didn't keep the light out all that well. When we arrived we were told that because we were staying multiple nights, and because of Covid (?) they would not be cleaning our room daily. Ok. If we wanted our room cleaned, just let them know at the front desk before we leave those mornings. Well, we gave them 2 days of freebies!!! On the third day, we asked for maid service!! Got clean sheets and towels. Did not vacuum or clean bathroom. Did not even empty trash. They actually opened our window because the trash was smelly!! I was going to be in Crescent City for at least a week on business and I needed somewhere to stay. Not having been to Crescent City before, I had no idea how to pick a place so I did some research. Ultimately, I chose Lighthouse Inn based solely on the reviews I read on Trip Advisor, which were largely glowing. I checked in on a Friday night after driving from Sacramento and met Michael, the evening concierge. By the time I got in I was tired and wanted nothing more than to collapse somewhere and take a shower. I went up to my room and was pleasantly surprised. I stayed in a big room with two queen sized beds, a fridge, and a microwave. The room was spotlessly clean....no hairs on the linens, plenty of towels, shower cleaner than the one I use at home. Even the windows were clean. They also actually OPEN! I hate feeling all claustrophobic in a hotel room and not even being able to open the windows. Mmmm...fresh sea air! I'm gonna break down the pros and cons here. Let's get the cons out of the way right off the bat. My only real complaint is that on the weekends, one of the female members of the cleaning crew is very loud while cleaning, and let me tell you, she sounds like a real fucking harpy. I feel sorry for her husband, because if just her voice sounds THAT bitchy, I can't imagine the rest of her. She would yell down the hallway to other members of the cleaning crew which seemed inappropriate to me (especially since they carry walkie talkies) since some of the guests may still be sleeping. Also, a few people seem annoyed by noise from the harbor. There IS a foghorn that goes off every few minutes at night. If you stay there for any length of time, you get used to it. Now that I'm back in Sacramento, I actually miss the noise! (which was pretty faint from my side of the hotel). You CAN turn on the fan in the bathroom to drown it out at night, or you can request a room on the back side of the hotel. The internet connection is sporadic. Sometimes it worked really well, sometimes it was horribly slow. This may have been due to the fact that my room was on the 4th floor and farthest from the router. I've heard the net in the whole city is pretty spotty, so I choose not to blame Lighthouse Inn. The pros: The rooms are big and clean. The hotel is quiet. Check in and check out were completely easy and painless. The cleaning crew is very thorough and efficient. There's a complimentary breakfast 7 days a week with pastries, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, tea, hard boiled eggs, bagels, etc. I had to be up at 4am most days and I think it opened at 6 or 7am, but it was a nice bonus on the days I got to sleep in. The rest of the time, there's coffee and tea available downstairs along with a huge widescreen TV. The staff is truly fantastic. Michael was the most accommodating and pleasant concierge I've ever met. He will point out local attractions to you and give you tips on where to go to eat. When I ended up staying there for nearly 2 weeks instead of the 1 I'd planned, he reserved my room longer for me with no problem so that I didn't have to switch rooms. The hotel IS on highway 101, but by the time 101 winds through Crescent City, it's only a two lane highway and the speed limit is 35 mph. So it's damn quiet at night. And it seems very safe (you wouldn't believe all the cops I saw out looking for people to pull over that first weekend...speeders beware). You also get a discount if you have AAA (I do, thank god). And they have free wireless. The bottom line: I consider myself really picky. This is not a "4 star hotel", but I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended. read more

Never stay at a hotel that doesn't give you online confirmation. It's a bad sign for things to come. My fiancé and I drove down the coast (Seattle to Los Angeles) and reserved the hotels accordingly. My fiancé booked them with her debit card which was canceled because she used it at a store that had had customer information stolen (not going to name names here, but this was big national news). The worst part was we were right about to leave on vacation, so the new card was not going to get to our place on time. This was horrible luck. But the worst luck of all was booking a night at The Lighthouse Inn. I called every hotel to them the situation, and they were helpful and understood. When I called the Lighthouse Inn, the guy at the desk said not to worry, that they don't even need a valid card until you check out. I asked if I should offer a new card regardless. He said no, like I was a crazy person. I told him we were going to arrive very late, and again, he said that's no problem... We drive into Crescent City around 9:30, after a long day on the road and every hotel is booked. When we go to check in desk, I give our names, and the clerk just says "We don't have your room anymore." I thought he was joking, but when I realized what was happening, I admit it, I went bonkers. He couldn't have cared less. He said he called to tell us that our card didn't work and he gave the room to someone else. It was a lie, he never did call us. I never understood why they were so eager to give our room away, especially I went out of my way to prevent this by calling them. My worst nightmare was realized and we got the last room at what I assume was a hooker motel at the end of town. While I was probably contacting some kind of lic,e while my fiancé sobbed. I used my laptop to contact the owner of The Lighthouse Inn and she did not apologize. Instead, she asked for phone records, to prove that I called the hotel. Now we stay only at hotels/motels that confirm online that our room is our room for the night we book it. If we aren't looking for bells and whistles, we stay at a Holiday Inn Express. If that's not available, we stay at any chain where we can expect some sort of accountability/organization that makes it certain something like this will not happen. The hooker motel was better than this place as they didn't give our room away after we booked it. read more

Nice place to stay the night on our road trip down the coast. Our room was very clean, which is the first thing I look out for. The room was also quite spacious. Breakfast was good, offering eggs, fruit,pastries, etc. Cons: there was a continuing alarm of some kind from the bay across the way, so be sure and bring ear plugs. This place is beautiful inside and out. Great customer service and great rooms. my daughter and fiancé stayed one night. Other then not having breakfast there cuz of COVID we enjoyed ourselves. Great decor and comfy room with a separate bathroom. The sink is outside and there is plenty of seating. We will for sure stay there again. 100 percent satisfied. Oh and there are washers and dryers there which is a big plus in my book. I look forward to our visit next year hopefully. that's all I have for now. read more

We just couldn't stay there. The bedspread had white stains and the mattress and box springs were covered in biohazards. The chair was filthy. This hotel needs to be gutted and remodeled because it looks like it's violating heath codes. read more

I walked in the front door and I felt like I was transported back to the 1980's. There's even a life size Dan Akroyd of the Blues Brothers fame waiting just inside the front door. The rooms do nothing to dispel the 1980's feel. Flowered bedspreads match the flowered wallpaper and the crazy worn industrial red carpet. Everything just looks old and tired. Even the TV is a tubed behemoth job (Zenith) and a punch button desk phone next to the bed to complete the retro ensemble. I guess the place was clean but I just can't get past the laminate counter tops, linoleum faux tile flooring in the bathroom and "jacuzzi" tubs! You look at the pictures others have posted and you tell me if this is a hotel in 1980 or 2014. Clean - maybe but I wouldn't have been surprised to have looked out the window and viewed a DeLorean and Michael J Fox in their time machine waiting in the parking lot! read more

This is not a two-star lodging. The rooms are dated and ill-appointed. They provide one bar of soap for bathing for three people the size of four postage stamps. The heater stinks. But the worst part is their front office. The most unhelpful, rude and abrupt staff. Do yourself a favor: don't consider staying here. read more
