Why do I live so far from this restaurant?! Amazing flavours, friendly staff, large portions ~ all the ingredients that make me a repeat customer. Too bad I live 8 hours away *sob* When we told the staff we were visiting for the first time, the friendly gentleman gave us a sampling of their dishes, after which I wanted to order everything. Here's what we ended up getting: Jerk Chicken - Nice heat level (much higher than Tastee's), robust flavour. Curry Goat - Husband immediately set his mind on this after the sampling. I don't enjoy Goat meat because it's too gamey for me but he Hoovered it in 20mins flat. Brown Stewed Chicken - Tender, moist and soooo tasty. Callaloo - Our first introduction to this dish and we both enjoyed it. Tasted a little bitter by itself but the bitterness disappeared when enjoyed with the other dishes. Rice and Peas - I didn't think I would love Rice and Peas so much. Isn't it just carbs for the meal? Oh no, this can stand on its own. Whoever picked up the phone was the most depressing person I've ever heard in my life, no energy, no happiness, no enthusiasm. She was such a drag that I just hung up the phone because I just felt like I was inconveniencing her by trying to place an order. By the way she was talking she didn't seem like she cared about the business at all. However I didn't give up to try the food there because it is one of the most highly recommended in the area for good Jamaican/Caribbean food. Omg!!! This food is sooooo tasty. I wanted to take a picture of my plate and post it but I tried a piece of chicken and before I knew it I ate it all. I had a medium sweet and spicy chicken plate with rice and peas and cabbage. I ate it so fast that I regretted the fact that I didn't get a large. A lot of Americanized options on the menu. This place has real deal homestyle food at a very affordable price. The restaurant has a fridge with a bunch of Jamaican sodas and we started off with ginger beer. The bottle mentioned it was from Kingston, Jamaica and it tasted a lot more sweeter than the ginger ale we get in the US and with a more pronounced ginger taste. We then moved on to the beef patties. The beef patties served here are the best I have eaten. The patties were warm, the dough was flaky like a puff pastry and the filling had so much flavor. We enjoyed it and would go back for more. For our entree we got the jerk chicken plate that comes with two sides and we picked plantains and beans and rice. We also got another side of callaloo because it's not a menu item we see very often and wanted to try it out. The jerk chicken was on the bone, moist and packed with complex spicy and smoky flavor. Their jerk marinade is excellent - the kind you want to put over everything. The sauce from the jerk marinade flowed into the rice and made a delicious combination. The plantains were a big disappointment as they were dry and were not caramelized to sweetness. It was our first time trying callaloo and the greens were bitter for us and we didn't enjoy it. The ambience of the restaurant is not the best; the have a few tables and chairs and it's not good for groups. Food is amazing! Huge portion too. I stopped in for lunch special. Got the chicken curry and rice and they allowed me to skip the free drink and instead get a side of cabbage. It was my first time there so I wanted to sample a few things. My to go tin was packed full. It was enough for both breakfast and dinner and was quality, fresh, seasoned to perfection. Delicious and inexpensive! I like the jerk chicken, which I got with plantains, rice and pigeon peas, and collard greens. The portions are huge. A "large" gives me enough leftovers for 2 more meals. I used to frequent this place like once a week for a while. I initially thought the food was very salty but then it got better. Everytime I would go the staff was rude. They would only have some of the menu items. Then they raised the prices $2 per plate. 1 vegetable option, cabbage, never anything else. Then I picked a plate up and it was RANCID!! I smelled it before it even hit my mouth. I took it back, no "I'm sorry". They start making me another plate!!! NO THANKS!. I had to has for my money back. I used to frequent this place until I realized it was not chicken I was eating when I ordered "Jerk Chicken". It's some other inexpensive (obviously) animal that can pass as chicken if you don't know food well. The pieces are VERY big and ODDLY shaped. Never had chicken that was shaped like a small ham. My boyfriend & I went here tonight because we were starving and wanted some good jamaican food. I read through the comments and felt comfortable that it would be delicious , but the lady did sound very depressed and unamused when I called the store to order. When my boyfriend went to pick up the food he said it was so quiet, there was no music, and no one spoke. They just handed him the food and stared. I could care less as long as our food was right. I didn't have time to take pictures because we both were starving but we ordered oxtails ( large) and jerk chicken which came with rice & beans and we ordered two side orders of mac and cheese. My boyfriend said the oxtails were delicious but the rice tasted old and the mac & cheese was horrible. I loved the jerk chicken but man was it hotter than hell. ( thanks for not giving a warning Yelp reviewers ): ) It took me two water bottles to get the spice to go away. The flavor was amazing but i think i'll keep that for my spice lovers. On to the rice, horrible. It was so crunchy, but with the jerk sauce it was bearable. The mac and cheese I was looking so forward to was disappointing and dry. The cheese was not melted and it honestly looked like someone sprinkled some butter and cheese over some noodles and called it a day. This was just okay but i do say beware, eat at your own risk. I was opened to trying again until i woke up in the middle of the night puking. So as you can imagine... there goes the possibility of me revisiting . Our first time to this place to celebrate my birthday and what a wonderful treat. The jerk chicken was spiced just right and oh so yummy. The oxtail fell off the bone and seasoned perfectly. Opted for the mac and cheese and cabbage as sides ...both really good....would love to taste the mac and cheese fresh out of the oven, I imagine that would be out of this world. As we showed up near closing they were out of sweet and spicy chicken but the owners went above and beyond by making up a fresh batch for me to take home...again a wonderful dish as well as wonderful customer service. As we were leaving Anthony put a cake into my bag as a gift. Again....wonderful customer service.
