Although the layout of this restaurant (located above their shop) is basic, don't expect basic their service and food. Yes, it's not a high-class food establishment. But after spending in insane amount of time out in the sun playing golf, A/C and good local food is what counts. Plus their service is awesome. I would definitely come here again!

Service here is WONDERFUL! Company was wonderful.. Thank you Terry K for inviting me out and bringing me to this nice and cozy place. The chef that works here is friends with Brian M. We had a nice intimate breakfast. Sadly, his friend wasn't working that morning so I couldn't try some specialty dishes. I ordered from the lunch menu, their soft shell crab salad and 2 scrambled eggs. I must have eggs in he morning! Soft shell crab was ok. Salad was very light on the dressing. If you're playing golf it's a great place to come eat after... If you wanna drive all the way down to hawaii kai just for breakfast well I don't know if I would do it because I love sleep and it's far. Maybe if that chef was there and I got to try the speciality I would say different?

The Lighthouse Restaurant is tucked away upstairs in the Clubhouse at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. When we visited early on a Saturday morning we were the only ones there so the dining room was quiet and cool, with a gorgeous view. Our server was warm and friendly, with suggestions and recommendations on the menu. The meat loaf loco moco was hearty and delicious with a white cream-based sauce that was an unusual upgrade from the traditional brown gravy. Unfortunately the eggs over easy were over cooked, with solid yellow yolks instead of runny as they should be. The Malted Belgian waffle itself was decent, with a generous serving of fresh fruit on top. The Mango Stuffed French Toast was a standout, with a sweet and tarty filling and perfectly done toast. The Vegetarian Omelette was overstuffed with fresh vegetables, and quite tasty. We finished up the breakfast with the mango lilikoi cheesecake, which was also wonderfully presented and the perfect way to finish up a great family breakfast. The Lighthouse Restaurant is quite a gem.

Cheerful service! by Tommy Li He said he's only been an employee for the past 6 months, but he sure doesn't act like it! So, I had to ask! Yup - he has significant experience in the Food Service industry! And - it shows! He's very personable and helpful! We dined here for breakfast after hiking the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail. The GPS directions were a bit off, but we edited it and changed the pin location, so it should be all good now. LOCATION: at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. It's upstairs, above the pro shop. PARKING: free and plentiful AMBIANCE: casual, bright, and spacious! We liked the large windows with scenic views! FOOD: yummy! I had the Meatloaf Loco Moco - so delicious! I finished it and enjoyed every bite! I wouldn't mind returning and having other menu items! It's a drive, but it's worth it!

Lighthouse Restaurant is located on the grounds of the Hawaii Kai Golf Course pn the second floor. Formerly known as Queens Beach Restaurant they have totally revamped the whole menu. A new name, change of menu and New Chef in place which now offers a mixed variety of small and complete local dishes to try. Chef Mitch formally from Corner Kitchen (now closed *sad face*) has a lot of dishes not ever seen at your local Golf Courses restaurant. Yes, CK was my hangout to get good local grindz and cold brews. After hearing that he landed here I had to come and test out some of his food. Ahh yes, it brings back those wonderful memories from the past and now looking forward to future tasting some of his new creations. Reasonably priced for golfers finishing up a tough round, people hitting at the driving range or hikers going or coming from the Makapuu Lighthouse post hikes. There are 3 different menus, Breakfast menu served till 11am, Lunch menu after 11am and Pupu menu after 2pm. Great place for larger gangs that's looking for a place to rehydrate and relax after a good workout. On my first visit we tried the.. Fried Ahi Belly, 4 nice size pieces. This is the way Ahi Belly should be cooked, crispy skin. Lechon Pork Kawali, it a lettuce wrap dish with a tomato lomi. Super good crunch from the crispy skin and surprisingly not oily like your normal roast pork. It was delicious and deceivingly filling. Love this dish! Second visit with my Wonderful Yelp Buddies, we sample the Banana Pineapple Lychee Foster's Pancakes, Breakfast Sandwich, Soft Shell Vrab Salad, Fried Ahi Belly and of course the Lechon Pork Kawali. I think the concensus did the favorite dishes was the Pork Kawali because of the crispy crunch from the pork skin. Also the Banana Pineapple Lychee Foster's Pancakes. Such great company along with good food made for an enjoyable afternoon om a sunny day. One thing that you have to remember, this is a golf course restaurant and if the course is close due to some unforeseen reason, than most likely the restaurant will be closed also. I really hope they would bring back Local talent and Hawaiian music to this venue, that would be a great reason to drive out to here. It's totally in the works so be on the lookout for Awesome Hawaiian music playing here on selected evenings on the far East end of Oahu. Update: Talented Big Island Artist and Multi-Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winner Mark Yamanaka will be playing on March 10th Friday from 6:30-8:30. No reservations are taken, so first come first serve. I'm sure they'll be more talented Hawaiian musicians to play here in the future. There will be special hours when there is entertainment playing, so make sure you call first to check. So worth the Beautiful Ocean views and scenery while driving here, so check them out!

This review is for the Easter Brunch. Made reservations for 8 people over a month prior. We got a nice round table by the window facing makai. The food was in the other banquet room near the restrooms. $45/person. Not bad, not as much variety as some buffets I've been to but I felt the quality of the food was better. The one downfall is they had live music which was way too loud. You had to shout to have a conversation. They let us have separate checks too. Most of the people at brunch were not golfers, looked like people who came from church

A couple Saturday nights ago FPO and I went to see Wasabi perform at the Lighthouse Restaurant. We'd heard great things about the food so we went. Much to our disappointment the regular kitchen wasn't open. They had a buffet. $36 per person, it had meatballs, chicken wings, country fried chicken, basa, mashed potatoes, assorted vegetables all in heating trays. Not very impressive but he restaurant was clean and comfortable. The music was a mix of 50's, 60's, and 70's ... a lot of fun if you grew up back in the day (like we did) and your parents controlled the car radio, making you listen to oldies on K59 while you rolled around in the back of your dad's Chevy van because seatbelt laws didn't exist yet. The crowd was older but I'm telling you, they could all show people a quarter of their age how to have a good time. And all in all we did have a good time. Had a round of drinks (draft beer and a house red wine) then we went to Mickey D's for a couple of burgers. I would like to go back when they have he regular menu available so I can try the food. Maybe next time they have live music on a Saturday they'll keep the kitchen open. Fingers crossed. Wow, ask and ye shall receive indeed! I just posted my review a couple of days ago and then learned Wasabi was again playing just last night at Lighthouse and this time kept the kitchen open. Again the staff was great! The ladies were all very friendly and attentive. FPO and I split a Kalbi Plate which came with Mac salad and rice at $18.00. It was pretty good. The Mac salad was a little bland. The Kalbi came in three pieces and was tender. Not the best I'd had but it was flavorful and hit the spot. Others at our table had nachos, edamame, and the Hot Appetizer Platter (lamb chops, chicken wings, pork belly, and duck), French Fries, and Kobayaki Fries (French Fries with Okonomiyaki sauce, kewpie mayo, and fury Kalbi). I wasn't in the mood for nachos and didn't try them; it's hard to mess up edamame; I heard the platter was good; and I really liked the fries. They were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. A little too salty so next time I need to remember to as for no salt and just add at the table. The Kobayaki Fries looked good and I want to try those sometime. They do have Fish and Chips on the menu though so that might supersede ... next time I'll have to play it by ear. And there will be a next time. It was good food, a little pricey so not something for every week. The music was amazing as always and the people there seriously know how to have a good time.

3.5 stars! Every weekend i am on a hunt for new place to have breakfast and thats how i found this place located inside Hawaii Kai Golf Course. Here the review: *Ambience: super, i repeat super old inside! May be original conditions since they open! Nice view to the golf course though. *Service: my waitress was an old lady but she was the cutest thing ever! Plus she did an amazing job. 10+ points for her!!! *Food: *Two egg breakfast ($9) Nothing wow but its cheap! *Corned beef hash ($12) I didn't care much for this style of corned beef hash (i like it more crispy) but the eggs were made to perfection! Overall, place is not bad but i wasn't impressed either, good prices though!

Corned beef hash with hash browns and eggs

Came here for breakfast. The service is great, our server made sure our drinks were always filled and that we were happy with everything. I ordered the Loco Moco with fried rice, meatloaf and brown gravy. I ordered my eggs over easy and they were a tad too runny (the whites too watery), which was not a big deal for me, but next time I will order them over medium. The second dish was Corned Beef Hash with hash browns and eggs over hard. The eggs were served over easy and we sent them back, which came back good the second time around. Apparently it wasn't an egg day for the chef. The restaurant is nice and spacious, the views of the golf course are beautiful, the service is great and the atmosphere is laid back and relaxing. The food could be improved, but happy with the visit overall. They also have Sunday brunch and Live Music in Friday's, which is something definitely worth checking out in the future.

Take out menu - they still had a kalbi sandwich special not listed here today (5/18/20).

Great food after a round of golf (especially after walking 18 on the Championship course, which they now allow). Forget your diet and get the fries - they're some of the best you'll find on the island.

Cold ac and beverages after a fun par 3! Lechon was very good and portion size big. Clams and burger were also good. Wait staff was excellent, our water and iced tea glasses were never empty and our waiter was super nice and accommodating! Definitely will be back to check out the Sunday brunch and some other menu items. What a pleasant experience, it was everything I wanted after a hot day in the sun.

Meatloaf Loco Moco with Fried Rice - $9 (+$2).
    Jan K.

Lighthouse Restaurant [LR]. (2.5 stars). "Let me sleep on it... and I'll give you an answer in the morning." - Meatloaf The morning after... My answer is NO MORE DIANE SAUCE FOR ME!! ;) For the record, I do NOT heart breakfast foods and I really wish we could have ordered from the lunch or dinner menu. Definition of "Diane Sauce": "A sauce is prepared from the pan juices. Ingredients vary; they may include butter, mushrooms, mustard, shallots, cream, truffles, meat stock, A1 Steak Sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. The sauce is flambéed with brandy or Madeira and the sauce poured over the steak." - Wikipedia Meatloaf Loco Moco - $9 (+$2 for Fried Rice). (2.5 stars). I'm not sure if LR uses all the ingredients above to make their version of Diane Sauce but unfortunately for me, I couldn't eat more than 3 bites of my Meatloaf Loco Moco. I don't blame LR at all but I should have "googled it" before I ordered my meal. I could taste copious amounts of Worcestershire/A1 steak sauce. The sauce was just too overpowering for me. I can't say I'm a fan of Diane Sauce but at least now I know. No regrets. PERSONAL PREFERENCE... The Meatloaf were cut into slices (similar to scrapple or spam) which didn't help me at all. Even though the meatloaf looked grilled, it was soft inside. I'm a visual person and that's all I kept thinking about as I bit into my meatloaf. Don't get me wrong I love meatloaf but maybe I'm just not used to this version?? The fried rice was tasty and fresh!! I would order that again!! ----*-----*----*------*-----*----*----*-----*---- I definitely want to come back and give LR another try! But only from the lunch or dinner menu because it sounded and looked yummy! If the meatloaf loco moco had come with brown gravy and I asked to have my meatloaf grilled a lot longer... I would have liked this dish! Maybe I'll ask to see if I can substitute the Diane Sauce for brown gravy the next time. Service was great! Tommy is very personable! The view is nice and the dining area is spacious. Parking is ample and on-site at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. As a whole, it seems that the "Lunch from 1100AM" rule is strictly adhered to. I'm sure I'll be back to LR but hopefully I'll be in the area to try the lunch or dinner menu!!

Like hard a a rock extra crispy. You also only get like 6 so after we each tried one or two to confirm how bad they were, they were gone. The main we tried was the steak frites. Okay at this point I was just sending thoughts and prayers. Steak was fatty and chewy on both ends but the 5 middle slices weren't that bad. Also well seasoned along with the seasoned fries. Not the worst. Drinks were good but you can't really mess up wine and beer. Service was also good. Even though she warned us she was new she did a fantastic job checking in on us and making sure we felt cared for. Now why didn't we say anything on the spot? Well, combined with the fact that our waitress seemed too sweet to have to deal with complaints and we were hungry and tired and just wanted to enjoy the evening before heading home, it didn't seem like it would accomplish much. Also, Extra food if refired would've been too much food. And honestly, we shouldn't even have to brings these issues up. Standards.

Beef Sukiyaki Combo = ONO ----- My aunty recommended Heavenly a while ago but whenever we decided to try it there was always no reservations available. Well, we were finally able to lock in a res for brunch on a Saturday before a Costco run. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. The restaurant was pretty busy when we visited and there was a wait at the door. Heavenly is located in the Koko Marina shopping center. There's lots of parking available. The ambiance is great and there is a fantastic view of the surrounding water. The seating is super comfy and casual with sofa-style chairs to sit in. Heavenly has a very eclectic menu. A large portion of the menu is dedicated to breakfast offerings, but there is also a very sizable selection of Japanese dishes. I wasn't craving anything for breakfast, so I opted for the Beef Sukiyaki Combo, which came with a hefty portion of beef sukiyaki, rice, a soft-poached egg, and miso soup. This really hit the spot. Everything was delicious. If you like gyudons, you should definitely consider the beef sukiyaki here. My wife ordered the loco moco and subbed in a falafel patty. I was expecting the patty to be hard and/or dry, but it was utterly perfect! It was crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. And it paired so well with the gravy, egg, and rice. I would highly recommend this dish as well. We ordered an acai bowl for my young daughter, which was also great. This is our new brunch spot on the east side!

My partner and I had just finished a long hike and were excited to relax, enjoy a good meal, and watch the World Cup game. When we arrived, we approached the host stand to put our name on the waitlist. Instead of being greeted with a smile or any sense of hospitality, the host, Sarah, came across as very snarky, dismissive, and unwelcoming. She informed us there would be approximately a 45-minute wait, which we completely understood and were happy to accept. While waiting, we stood near the bar area so we could watch the World Cup match. Despite standing there for around 25 minutes, not a single bartender or employee acknowledged us, offered a menu, or even greeted us. Eventually, after about 30 minutes of waiting, a table in the bar area became available. Since it was empty, we sat down, assuming it was open. Within moments, the host approached us with the same rude attitude and told us that table was being held for another party. We politely asked to speak with a manager. Rather than responding professionally, she visibly rolled her eyes before going to get one, which only reinforced how unwelcome we felt. When the manager arrived, the interaction was equally disappointing. He never asked us what had happened or tried to understand our perspective. Instead, he immediately apologized and reiterated that the table was reserved for another waiting party. We didn't want to cause a scene, so we simply moved to another available bar table. What made the situation especially frustrating was that the original table they insisted was reserved remained empty the entire time afterward. No one was ever seated there while we watched. It left us questioning why such a rigid stance was taken over a seating arrangement that appeared easily manageable. The issue was never about having to move tables. We understand restaurants get busy and that hosts have to manage seating. The problem was the complete lack of hospitality, communication, and customer service. From the host's attitude and eye-rolling to the manager's unwillingness to listen before making a decision, we felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. As first-time customers, first impressions matter. We arrived excited to enjoy our evening, but instead left feeling ignored, dismissed, and genuinely unwelcome. A little kindness, professionalism, and a willingness to communicate could have completely changed this experience. Unfortunately, that's not what we received.

I've been to this Waimanalo Town Center café twice ...always been curious when I pass this way…read more Hawaiian Island Cafe has a fairly large menu for a small local establishment. Apparently, they've been in business for 12 years or so...not familiar with Waimanalo in any way. They have a decent looking acai bowl menu so I tried one on both occasions. The acai bowl can be a bit hackneyed but the menu caught my eye. They offer 16 and 24 ounce options. Makapu'u Bowl and Mana Bowl both have an acai sorbet base. The former features Okinawan sweet potato and haupia; the latter, coconut chia parfait and blueberries. They both had bananas and hemp granola...a standout. Both really were fantastic. I had a Caramel Macchiato by accident. I ordered a macchiato - which by their menu description was a traditional macchiato. But I went with it and the Caramel Macchiato ( by Starbucks definition) was actually quite good. Also, had a special drink menu item...near the POS...Iced Brown Sugar Latte. This was quite sweet but refreshing. They serve standard breakfast fare - waffles and pancakes; also standard local plate lunches. They operate from 830a to 400p - closed on Sunday and Monday. Tour buses roll up and it can get tourist heavy...I had to stand in queue at the entrance on my initial visit. I see locals and tourists visit. The small dining area has art, vintage items...clothing...standard merch...a mashup of items for sale and display. I think a 70yo local guy and a 40 yo mainland woman collaborated on the interior design...I

We had breakfast here and everything was delicious, especially the breakfast croissant. Simple, but incredibly tasty. And then the drinks... oh my god. The macadamia nut latte was THE BEST COFFEE I HAVE EVER HAD. I literally dream about it. It was unbelievably good. Their premade drinks were also amazing, especially the CBD hibiscus lemonade. We tried a few different things and honestly everything was great. The owner and her father were also incredibly warm and kind. We walked in right when they opened, and by the time we left maybe 30 minutes later, the place was packed. Honestly, it makes complete sense because everything there is absolutely delicious.

This place has been here a long time. Its right off the main highway right next to 711…read more It an old style drive inn. Parking is in the front and back (maybe 15 spots). There is an old skool walk up ordering window that you order through. There is a dining area to the side of the window. It used to be an inclosed open patio and used to have a roof but now its more of an outside dining area half shade half sun. It's cool they have some scripture painted on the wall too. The kitchen is all screened in to prevent flies from coming into the kitchen so you know the food is safe. The food is your typical plate lunch burger fare. (Pic of menu) The portions are fair to huge and are a decent value. The food was good and the staff was cool. The only thing is...and I hope the owner or staff is reading this. I don't know why but there a lot of flies outside maybe from other issues close by I know it didnt effect the safety of the food but Please buy one of those fly bag traps From home depot to reduce flies outside. I think it would go a long way with aesthetics when dining outside!! Good safe food...fair pricing..good portions just control the flies outside.

I spent my next-to-last day in Hawaii traveling by car towards the Windward side of the island. The…read moreplan was to take a hike along the way to the coast and then just meander the various spots of gorgeousness of the coastline of that part of the island. The hike worked up my appetite, and so I searched Yelp for nearby places to grab a lunch. I had already been to Kailua, and so this time I wanted to work my way through rural Waimanalo Beach. One of the most interesting places that came up on my search was Keneke's. It served local food and had great reviews, and so I plugged it into my Apple Maps and headed to Waimānalo. My first impression of Keneke's was that it felt more like a place you'd find in the rural countryside of a Caribbean island or Latin American country. I hadn't seen that in Hawaii until I came across Keneke's. You know, the type of place that's been around for years and draws people from far and wide for their good, home-cooked food. As you can see from the picture of Keneke's, the red on the walls makes the place stand out, but everything else about it was a bit confusing. There were two or three windows to place your order...a walk-up kind of place, but it was hard to tell which one to approach. They had old-fashioned wood-frame screens over the windows, which were hard to see through, looking from the sunlight into darkness. And no one called out to me as I stood there, either. It wasn't until a woman inside one of the windows opened the screen and yelled out a customer's name, some young guy playing a ukulele, that I knew where to order. I stepped back from the window as she handed him his food. Finally, she asked me for my order. The woman was very businesslike, and not friendly at all. I placed my order, my first Hawaiian "Loco Moco" with a Dr. Pepper. I waited quite a while for my name to be called from inside the simple concrete, dining room. It was nice and shady, but there were a couple of pesky little flies looking for food. Even though the place was kind of icky and the people weren't so friendly, I was still looking forward to the Loco Moco. You could tell the food would be good from the activity. The place was busy the whole time I was there, so I knew the food was going to be fresh and good. Wow! And I say that in both a good way and a bad way! For those of you who don't know, Loco Moco consists of two hamburger patties served with an egg over white sticky rice and mac salad, all smothered in sumptious brown gravy. Delicious, but a heart attack waiting to happen! You see, good and bad. In all seriousness, the Loco Moco was fresh and tasty, but it was very filling and I couldn't even finish it, which is a shame. Tip: order the Small size! In the end, and knowing what to expect, I'd still stop back at Keneke's. Their food was delicious snd they had an extensive menu. Who knows, maybe next time I'll try their "two quarter-pound deluxe cheeseburgers." Or maybe I'll just have the salad.

Lunch in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. Located on the lower level of the hospital building at Castle Medical Center is The Bistro. Staff, patients, and guests are free to dine at this cafeteria. We got the Corned beef and cabbage for $5.99. It was ala carte, so we added Roasted carrots for $2.29. Ancient grains and tofu were $5.29. We also got a bottle of kombucha. Yay! For those who don't have time for a Hot lunch, the refrigerator had salads, sandwich, fruit cups, yogurt cups, etc. for grab and go meals. Service was friendly and efficient. The place was clean, bright, and air-conditioned. We'll be back!

The secret is out…read more.. Did you know that there's The Bistro in Adventist Health Castle well thanks to Nadine C we decided to find this place and unless you know it wasn't easy. Parking on the other hand was a breeze though a full lot it is free and with a bit of patience and luck we got a stall and seek this spot that apparently has some yummy weekly specials. Located in the main hospital building you just need to navigate to an elevator where it will take you to the lower level and poof there it is....yeah! The Bistro is very nice and clean with comfortable seating as we chose a very cushy booth/banquette seating as i sat on a chair that had nice back support which made it a very nice spot to relax and it's essential for the food coma we were about to encounter as today's special was Corned Beef and Cabbage. With prices from $0.80 for toast to $8.99 for the Windward Loco Moco the affordability here is just astounding though all items are Ala carte the volume they serve makes you think twice about that extra serving. Did I mentioned that today's special is Corned Beef and Cabbage and at $5.99 a serving that was an amazing deal along with a side of Ancient Grains making it a complete meal. The staff here are delightfully friendly and this spacious spot offers so much besides a lovely hot meal with a huge display case filled with grab and go cold items like sandwiches, salads and many other items. So happy to make this discovery as affordable eats are something to share so that can enjoy comfort food without sacrificing your wallet. Thank you!
