They are the worst!!! They just try to nickel and dime you to death and try to avoid doing what they should do. I bought a fan from Fanco and paid LFI to install it. Then the fan didn't work right..so Fanco did their part and ordered a replacement to be installed by Lighting and Fan Installers. LFI came out and decided to take the easy way out and just install a new receiver...for $149. That didn't work, so they had to come back and TRIED charging us another $90!!! Nope!! I'll get any other person to install a replacement...my dog even...but not these a-holes!!! read more

Bought a fan from Fanco and requested their instal. Fanco arranged installation through Lighting and Fan Installers. Within a half hour of purchase, I received a call from them to set up an appointment. Best opportunity for us was 2 days later in the morning. I received a call from Eric advising when he was enroute. He and his partner arrived as scheduled and brought their own ladder. I had not opened our new fan and within 28 minutes, the old fan had been removed, the new fan installed perfectly, the ladder removed and the gentlemen paid! Following Daniel's (Fanco) failure to coach us through the drop-down calculations we have 1' drop where it should have been at least a 2'. Though I accept partial responsibility, I believe that it is the professional's job to coach the customer through the process...a fail!! See the separate Fanco review related to this matter! The Lighting and Fan Installers, Inc. had a chance to save the day but also failed!! They were working on the second fan (the one that needed a longer drop-down) and acknowledged that need. If they were thinking excellent customer service, they might have suggested they would install fan #3 while I took the short trip to pick up the correct drop-down. All would have been happy!! Also, be aware of the added charges after the advertised per fan installation - i.e., take-down charges, etc.! read more

The techs are good, but the way they handle business is horrible, they give you a price but when the invoice is written up you see all these extra charges such as a charge if your fan has a remote $12.99 up charge to plug in, $12.99 to remove the old fan. So what does their $100 installation include. I removed the existing fan thinking I would get the $12.99 instead was told they would have charged me if I haven't removed it. Why can't you just give the customer one price instead of nickel and diming them. I had two referrals for them but told my friends not to use them. We had purchased a couple of fans from Fanco and they use Lighting and Fan Installers Inc as their contractor of choice. Everything was explained by Fanco in terms of the charges. Setting up an appointment was easy as their schedule was flexible and fit our best availability. Our installer was fantastic. He called ahead of time, came on time and he was courteous, kind and professional. Everything you would want in a quality installer. He treated our home like it was his own. After purchasing a new house (new construction), we went to Fanco and bought four ceiling fans. Had received several postcards from Fanco offering "pay for one ceiling fan installation, get one free." We were happy to jump on that offer. Fanco does not install ceiling fans. They subcontract that job to Lighting and Fan Installers ("L&FI"). Two Installers arrived and installed the four fans. That evening, one of the four fans quit working. L&FI returned the next day. In fact, they came out two more times and said that the problem is in the wiring; that it's the Builder's fault. The Builder of course said that, 90% of the time, it is not their fault but the fault of the Installers, cable people, internet people, security people, etc. etc. So we had the Builder out. Counting? Four visits so far. Today was Visit #5. The Builder sent an Electrician, Ernesto. He agreed that the wiring problem was in fact at the Builder's end. He resolved the problem within five minutes. We can now run the ceiling fan without impacting the "can" lights in the ceiling and vice versa. The other problems we have WERE caused by the Installers. We were told that they also install dimmer switches so, since they were returning anyhow, we asked them to install four dimmer switches we had already purchased. They did so and we paid a little less than $20 each. BUT two of them are screwed up. L&FI have offered to make good; to come out and resolve. We could take them up on the offer BUT we choose to pay Ernesto to correct the mistakes made by L&FI because he -- unlike them -- know what he's doing. What did L&FI do wrong? L&FI put a triple-pull dimmer switch on a single switch. Wrong. Ernesto will buy a new one and we'll pay for the switch, as well as his labor. L&FI put a single-pull dimmer switch on what we thought was a triple. (Three different rocker switches can turn on and off the foyer lights.) Subsequent to their installation of the dimmer switch, we can't turn the foyer lights on and off consistently. Sometimes we can, sometimes we can't. That is because (1) you don't put a single pull dimmer on a triple pull; (2) it wasn't a triple pull after all - it's a quad; and (3) you don't put a dimmer on the center pull of a triple pull - you must put it on one end or the other. The Installers didn't know this stuff even though Jill (who handles customer service) told me "They do this all day every day. They know what they're doing." All evidence to the contrary, Jill; all evidence to the contrary. At one point, Jill told me that it was our fault for buying the wrong dimmers, not the Installers fault. She's right. We did buy the wrong dimmers. BUT we are not dimmer switch experts or Electricians; we rely on people we hire, people who claim to be dimmer switch experts, to say "I'm sorry, Sir, but this isn't the right part." Jill told me they just do what the customers ask even if it's not right. I do believe that is called the Nuremberg defense and it doesn't fly with me. Where electrical work is concerned, if I give you the wrong part, you need to speak up. For electrical safety, and because it's the right thing to do. At one point, my conversation with Jill got heated. I said "Your guys are not qualified" and she replied with "I don't appreciate you threatening me." I told her that "Your guys are not qualified" is not a threat; it's my opinion based on my experience with them. She later apologized to my husband for allowing her telecon with me to become adversarial. My response? What should have taken one visit has so far taken five. It will be six before all problems are resolved. Each of those six visits necessitated us staying at home and waiting for workmen to show up. So, yes, I am not a happy customer. If you can't deal with unhappy customers, you should find another line of work. Further, I paid L&FI almost $80 to install four dimmer switches and now I'm going to have to buy two more (the correct ones) and pay an Electrician to install them correctly. I doubt that L&FI will refund the cost of the installation of the two dimmer switches they installed incorrectly because Jill did promise that they will make things right and it is my choice to not give them yet another repair attempt. Based on the fact that they did it wrong to begin with, why in the world would I do that? If they don't know not to install in the center of a triple pull; if they didn't recognize a quad; if they rely on us for guidance, I don't want to have them "fix" anything because I have no confidence that it'll be done right. So I wasted $40 with L&FI. If they had only installed the ceiling fans, I would have given them four stars, now that I know the electrical problem was the Builder's fault. But I paid them to install four dimmer switches and they installed two of them wrong. For that, 1 star. Which is how we ended up with a 2-star rating. read more

Fanco subcontracts The Lighting & Fan Installers Inc to put up fans. They refused to schedule an appointment since my fans were in but I wouldn't be picking them up until the next day. Not only was Jill, the owner, rude to me but she was also very rude to Fanco when the manager tried to set up an installation appointment. Then I saw their horrendous reviews and am relieved I didn't let them into my home. Look around and don't fall for the "buy install and get one free" gimmick. FANCO uses Lighting and Fan Installers Inc and the Installers do not warranty their work! The installer of my expensive Fanimation Islander Fan stripped the threads out in the motor side of the fan blade mounting screw hole and went on about their business. Many months later the fan blade fell off while the fan was running landing on me in the middle of the night while I was sleep and then hit the floor damaging (gouging) my brand new wood floor! I tried to screw the blade back on but the threads were shot and I couldn't even get the threads started!! FANCO passed me off to Fanimation in Indiana and like a great Mid-West Company with great business ethics had me provide all paper work & pictures and without any question sent a brand new fan! FANCO would not take any responsibility because they didn't do the installation but use this company regularly! The FANCO GM had told me to take it up with "Lighting and Fan Installers Inc!" I called "Lighting and Fan Installers Inc" and the woman answering the phone was already aware of my situation as she had spoke to the GM of FANCO earlier in the day so she had all day to plan how she was going to dismiss me when I called! She was rude, dismissive, wanted to control the conversation, constantly interrupted me, and took no responsibility for her installer damaging my fan. She blamed Fanimation assuming a problem they knew about existed and was why they sent a replacement motor (Not that they have a reputation of having good business ethics)! While she blamed Fanimation I have an older identical fan that I have had for 20 years with NO PROBLEMS! So they have been making this identical fan for over 20 years and now they have a problem? NOT! "Lighting and Fan Installers Inc DAMAGED MY BRAND NEW FAN AND DISMISSED ME!" I had to hang up on the rude woman! DO NOT USE FANCO's referred installers "LIGHTING & FAN INSTALLERS INC!" Instead get yourself a local handy man to do the job or DIY it's cheaper and you don't have to worry about anyone else damaging your fan. read more

We hired Lighting and Fan Installers at the recommendation of Fanco to install 2 new ceiling fans and move one existing ceiling fan. During the original installation they didn't even check to see if the outdoor fan was balanced. Sure enough when we turned the fan on high it wobbled terribly. My husband was able to run out to their vehicle and have them return to fix it before they drove away. Later that evening we noticed this new outdoor ceiling fan was wobbling again and seemed to be loose in its attachment to the outdoor ceiling. We phoned the company to complain and say we needed someone to return to fix this. Jill would not return our calls, was not polite when we finally reached her, and finally we agreed that someone would come to fix this and there would be no charge to do so. When the same two technicians returned, they said fan installation was loose, said they fixed it and then told us they wouldn't leave till we paid them $130 for this return service call! My husband said no because that's the agreement he had with Jill. But they wouldn't leave without getting paid and no one would answer the phone in the office to settle this. I told my husband not to pay them but these guys made such a stink about it, he paid them by check since they wouldn't take a credit card and said he would get the money back. Jill never returned my husband's calls and our check was cashed. We are so upset with the incompetence, unethical behavior and lack of good customer service by this company. Beware! read more
