I had the fried crab with a house salad. Both were very. I especially enjoyed the fried crab, served over over some white sauce. Not the healthiest option on the menu, but every bite was great. I like being able to each the entire crab. The center was also stuff, which I didn't realize until I got to the center. I may have started with the outer limbs The breading on the crab was well seasoned and fried perfectly. Service was slow. They had a big party, which backed up all the orders. Weekday lunch with husband in assuming surroundings at Lil G's, under new ownership. Plenty of parking. Not super busy on this day. Husband had hamburger steak meal, which he enjoyed. I had the chopped salad, interestingly including goat cheese and crispy okra. I probably should have asked about the okra. Danielle was kind enough to serve house made Cajun ranch on the side; was very tasty. Would have enjoyed a little more goat cheese. Crispy okra = fried okra, which blew my mind - warm fried okra on top of my fresh salad. I put all of the okra in a small bowl on the side and ate it separately. I think getting someone's attention to check out probably was the slowest part of the process. Drinks never went dry, and pricing is reasonable. Not sure we will return, though, just because there's nothing outstanding about the food; it's just good. read more

My family went for dinner on Friday night. We were seated fairly quickly. As someone said in another review, the service wasn't bad, but it was odd. Our waitress took our order without writing anything down, but didn't seem confident that she would remember what we ordered. She did and there were no errors. The lack of confidence just felt odd. The food was delicious. Not pictured is the beignet bread pudding. So good!!! It didn't have raisins (YAY!), it had a crisp crust, which I loved, and the sauce was really good. Ok, my wife and I were hungry so we decided to stop at Lil G's we hadn't been there in a few years. So I ordered the hamburger steak and my wife ordered the Mushroom Tower, the bill was like $44.00. My hamburger steak was $16.00 and awesome it only came with one side which I thought was kinda lame and no toast or french bread. I did ask for some and it was brought out about 4 thin slices, now people down here love bread with their meals you shouldn't have to ask for it. My wife's Eggplant Tower was $19.00 also should have had bread with it, she thought it was delicious except for the shrimp that weren't divined which is disgusting for a restaurant not to do that, to me that just shows laziness and no pride. read more

I've been driving by this place for a week waiting for it open because the outside looks really nice. Last night I was driving by on my way to another restaurant, but I quickly turned around when I saw Lil G's Open sign lit up. I'm not sure where the servers were hired from, but they were just...I don't know. The service wasn't bad nor did they have a bad attitude, they were just so....vanilla. I cracked a joke with the hostess and got a deadpan reaction. My waitress, formally dressed in capris and a Snap-On hoody, both were less than thrilled to have a customer it seemed. Despite the bland service, the catfish plate was absolutely phenomenal. I probably could have scarfed down an appetizer as well as the catfish plate, but I felt that it was the perfect portion. What I did not know was how piping hot the catfish would be when it hit my table because it scalded my tongue, but that's my fault for being so darn hungry. Overall, the service needs improvement but I would recommend the food. Maybe get your order to-go if you're really wanting to try the place. read more

The service was definitely lacking. First as we were being seated the hostess said follow me and didn't wait for us to get up from the very dark waiting area. So I followed her into the wait station because she didn't show us our table. She pointed, we sat down. We then sat there for over 5 minutes for our server to come and take our drink order. Our server, I have no idea what her name was because she never told us, then took our order and then came back and informed me they were out of roast beef. This was 5:30ish local time. So we started with onion rings, which I highly recommend! I wish now we would have tried the gator spring rolls too but a girl can only eat so much... just wait.... Well they were out of roast beef. I know, I know, it's a Cajun restaurant but I've had so much Cajun I just needed some good ole beef. So I ended up getting a grilled chicken poboy. Chicken was seasoned well but was too thick and tough for a sandwich. Plus the bread was hard which made it even harder to eat. The chicken just kept falling out of the bread and I ended up eating it with a knife and fork. It was HUGE! 12" at least! And it didn't come with a side dish. Cut the sandwich size I half and give me an option of sides and for the price I'd pay the same. Honey enjoyed his dinner but didn't get what he ordered! He ordered Half and half and ended up being served Thibodaux which is stuffed crab and crawfish in cream sauce. He says it was delicious. We didn't care he didn't get what he ordered because we watched a lady at the table across from us sit and wait for her dinner until everyone else at her table (4 folks) were done eating. (Her boyfriend/Hubby's dinner got cold while he waited for her to be able to eat too and they both ended up taking their full dinners to go). Also the server who took our order was not the same person who put our order into the kitchen. We know this because she came back and asked about our side orders because she couldn't read the other girls writing. The restaurant still looks mostly the same as it did when #RestaurantImpossible got through with it. There was an ugly couple of two x fours just hanging on the wall behind me where a Gator sign used to hang, as seen on RI. Hang a picture there already! Plastic over the oars that separate the center of the restaurant which I'm sure was there because of COVID but really not unnecessary. And it was very dark in there! Idk if I'd eat there again. We were able to be seated right away, as we missed the diner rush. Our server, Whitney, was so sweet and accommodating - explaining the menu and some of their best dishes. Very convenient location right off base if your wanting something close. It looks fun and inviting on the outside. On the inside it looked cleaned and well laid out. When we first walked in we weren't sure if we were suppose to just sit or wait to be seated there was a hostess table but no hostess or a sign anywhere that said "please wait to be seated" or "please seat yourself" so we stood around for a bit until someone finally came out. She wasn't very friendly, it was kind of awkward, I instantly lost interest in being there. The waitress was even more quiet and dry. The food was okay I would recommend the food if you like seafood. I may or may not (...okay, who am I kidding? I totally do) have an obsession with the food at this place. We live on base right down the road so whenever I'm craving some yummy home cooked southern comfort food, this is THE go-to. We've been several times since we moved here and our experience has varied... but the food has been consistently amazing. The service is just okay. It's better when they're less busy, which is true for most places it seems, but almost non-existent when it's packed. The wait will be long, your drinks won't be refilled, nobody will come to check on you... but when those glowing golden trays of deliciousness come out, you'll forget alllllll those things that put you off about the place. My absolute favorite menu selections here are the Jambalaya Pasta (or Pasta Jambalaya? You get the idea) and their fried pickles. The pasta is SO DAMN GOOD. So flavorful, spicy, and - don't kill me - but I order it without shrimp as I'm not a big seafood eater. The dish still has chicken and sausage which is a perfect meat combo for me! We've also tried the soft shell crab (delish), Caesar salad (delish), onion rings (just ok, too light and flaky, not greasy enough for my liking), Alligator sausage (surprisingly good, the first time I've ever had gator) and the crab came with a potato on the side (also delish). Aside from the food, the atmosphere is pretty neat. Taxidermy on the walls, a really cool bar setup, and a video poker room. When it's not busy, we've seated ourselves without an issue but when it's busy, we've waited for an employee to direct us where to sit. My only complaint is that it's a little crowded and when it is busy, you can hear the conversations of everyone around. Very little elbow room. BUT, parking is ample... HUGE lot dedicated just to the restaurant and it's so easy to get to. Love this place and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a place that will fill your belly with great food and have you leaving with a smile. My husband and I came here after our adventure to see a near by estate sale. The outside decor was very eye catching, and we thought it would be a good place to stop. Honestly, everything about our experience was just ok. The waitress took our order, but barely came to the table to check on us for drinks, etc. We ordered oysters which tasted like nothing and were room temperature. Some of them did not look healthy. We actually had to send them back. The fried seafood platter was pretty good. There wasn't a lot of flavor there either, but the seafood seemed fresh, and there was a lot of it for the price. We had to ask for tartar sauce. When it came out, it wasn't bad, but it was homemade and definitely did not taste like normal tartar sauce. Looking around, I noticed that the other customers were mostly older or had children with them. My impression is that this restaurant makes most of its money from people who have a limited budget and are willing to put up with mediocre food. The reality is, the price point is good. However, food is one of the primary pleasures of life for me, and I would much rather spend a little extra on a better experience. read more

Located on Hwy. 23 in Belle Chasse, LA, Lil G's is one of the last restaurants you'll see before you get to the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans. Their parking lot is pretty big, but I've never seen it full. I've eaten here a handful of times when heading "down the road" and I always tend to stick with a po boy or burger. It's funny that I've never posted a picture here before, but the internet service for AT&T is very intermittent. The interior is warm and inviting and the staff is friendly; however, I would not say that service is over the top. The food has always been good, but I would not say that it's over the top either. A-OK or simply OK is what you'll get. On my last visit, I got the Lil G's burger, which had mushrooms, applewood bacon, a fried onion ring and cheese. Collectively, the ingredients were great, but the heart of the sandwich (the meat) lacked flavor. The onion rings however, are superb. If you are heading down the road and need a decent meal, stop here or you'll have to settle for a Mrs. Drake's (or similar sandwich) further down the road. read more

They are like very crispy sweet potato hush puppies sprinkled with powdered sugar. Super crunchy outside while thoroughly cooked on the inside. We had Da Big Bayou Omelette which is a seafood omelette covered in crawfish etouffee. The etouffee was a little too spicy hot for my taste but it didn't destroy the flavor. Next time I will get the crawfish etouffee on the side per our server's suggestion. This is a very casual place so no special attire is needed. I have eaten here a few times when I'm in town on business and really have had no complaints. Once I was there and the service was a little slow, but the food was good. This last time I went early right after work around 4pm and the place was empty, maybe I was too early???? It feels a little awkward sitting in a restaurant (table for 1) let alone being the only person in there other than the staff, but I was hungry so I didn't care. The waitress Tyler was awesome and very friendly!!! Like I do at most restaurants I asked her what she recommended off the menu and her choice was great!! I tried the THIBODAUX - which is stuffed crab with crawfish cream sauce over the top either with pasta or a side, she suggested it with pasta and it was delicious!!! Man, this place didn't live up to my expectations at all. I usually find fantastic food at little "holes in the wall". Some of the best food I have ever had has been at divey little places. Unfortunately, that theory didn't pan out this time. We came during lunch and there wasn't too much of a crowd. The waitress was super attentive at first. I was going to get my usual fried oyster platter, but I decided to switch it up, and since I saw fried soft shell crab on the menu, I got that. I also decided to start with a bowl of corn and crab bisque, a favorite. The corn and crab bisque came out and it was pretty good. Honestly, I kind of get the feeling that it was from a can, but once I added a little hot sauce to it, it was passable. The soft shell crab platter came with a nice side salad that I enjoyed, and was probably the best part of the meal. The crab platter came out and I was immediately underwhelmed. First of all, it was only one medium sized crab on a huge pile of fries. Once I dug into the crab, the claws were tasty, but the body was under cooked and mushy in the middle. I didn't even finish it. It was completely unappetizing. When the check came, they actually tried to charge us for two soft shell crab platters (correct) and two soft shell crab poboys (incorrect)! It's a good thing we were paying attention, otherwise they would have made off with a good bit of extra money. Well, last night and today I am paying for that lie. My digestive system is very upset and I am in pain. Either the waitress didn't ask or the cook doesn't know what is in the recipe. I ate at several restaurants in New Orleans and each one were very helpful in honestly telling me which dishes do not have gluten or flour in them. Original French Market, New Orleans Creole Cooking were honest and knowledgeable about the ingredients in their dishes. Lil G's was not. It was everything short of good. The bisque was too think and clumpy, and not really flavorful, just creamy. The poboy wasn't amazing; it was ok. That's all I can say for now. The food is good. But the service is so infuriatingly slow. The wait staff needs to be retrained and the kitchen needs help. We ordered the gator spring rolls and they were awesome. The waitresses didn't know their own menu. We then waited at least 45 minutes for a burger and chicken pasta dish. The burger came without a bun, instead of there grilled cheese upgrade that is on the menu. Unacceptable. Fast forward a month later we ordered to go, hoping they could get it right. Wrong. We ordered two orders of gator spring rolls and meals for 4 adults. They called us back to say the didn't have jambalaya or spring rolls at the moment.. When my husband went to pick up they waited 20 minutes for a to go order!! And things were still missing. We won't return until there is new management. read more
